Janna Spice in York

Popped in here after a couple of beers for what turned out to be an excellent meal. The food was very good and the service was excellent.

A wide and varied menu and the food was superb, but the service lacked attention.

Sadly I ended up with food poisoning after eating here

We use for collect takeaways hence no comment on atmosphere (well, always seems pretty cheery when I'm waiting) or delivery. Quality of the food is excellent and offers good value for money, timing has always been very good: it's ready pretty much when they say it will be. Go for the various specialities and you'll find a wide range of flavours and styles (not just "generic curry + meat + ingredient" style), well worth exploring the menu. The fish dishes are great. The takeaway lamb shank is delicious and usually provided in an empty butter tub (catering size of course, the lamb is BIG) - good recycling, keep it up!

Great service, we walked in, there was a table available, nice atmosphere, seemed nice and busy with take away and sit in options. To improve, the customer toilet could do with an overhaul, loose tap, grubby door, small things but important. Thank you guys. Will call again.

Really nice Indian restaurant, its a very small restaurant but its got a good warm feeling to it. Food was cooked to perfection and the price was very resealable.

Madras was a ripper! Just the right amount of spice! Naan was superb! Staff were excellent. Only thing I could fault which wasn't a Biggie was the cobra beer wasn't that cold. Not a deal breaker through.

Catering for 11 on a Friday night is tricky, but the service we received was perfect. Janna Spice continue to go above and beyond, there’s no better Indian food in York. Thank you, lads, Haxby is a better place for having you here 👍🏻

Have been using Janna spice for as long as it has been open as it's the best Indian in York in my opinion. Food is authentic, delicious and very well presented - i have never had a bad meal or experience here. The staff are very friendly and attentive, the restaurant has a great atmoshphere and is always pretty busy whenever i have been. The food is also very reasonably priced and portions are also generous. A great little restaurant and one i would recommend if in the area!

Came in for a table for 2, restaurant fully booked good sign of quality food. Sat down and waited 1hr for main course however the dishes did not disappoint, waiter was very polite and respectful, explained to us nicely that there will be a longer wait for mains. Overall will be back worth the wait thankyou to Janna spice and it’s team

Arrived 6.50pm, friends arrived 7pm. Order 7.05pm. Food arrived 8pm. No real apology. No offer of free drinks. Very rude. This also occurred at Ramadan. No explanation. Over an hour for food. Been coming for years. Sad. Rude and poor customer service.

Having been a customer since this restaurant opened it’s sad to say that the service is letting it down. Far too busy with takeaway orders to be able to give sit down customers a good service. Food is always amazing but having waited for an hour for our food and having no drink order taken during that time we voted with our feet and we won’t be back. They have taken their eye off the ball and need to reassess what is important to them. Feeling sad

We were on short break from Bradford and wanted to experience a North Yorkshire curry. Discovered Janna Spice through Google and booked a table. On entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted and shown to our table. Our order was taken and our starter delivered promptly. Food was fantastic and presented in its own Janna Spice way, very pleasing to the eye. We were asked if we wanted the main course straight away or with some time in between. Good customer service in my books. Main course delivered, again very well presented and tasted superb. Compliments to the chef and the service team. A hidden gem in Haxby. Colin & Julie 🙂

First time ordering a takeaway from here. I won't be going anywhere else absolutely fabulous food had Chicken Biryani Chicken Korai and Murgh Masala every dish had its own flavour not like some curry houses where the food smells and tastes the same. Excellent can't fault it

The food here is always flavoured well with obvious experienced use of spices.. The meat is tender fish cooked perfectly..the starters are great especially the king prawn butterfly and onion bhaji ! Always delivered early...never once been late I must go 'in' for a meal sometime !

We were recommended this restaurant and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We came away very impressed and will definitely go back again and also highly recommend. The food was excellent quality. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh The service was very good and the staff are really nice and friendly. Overall price for 2 people was very reasonable. Recommended by fellow campers, this lovely little village Indian restaurant packs a punch. Throughly enjoyed my vegetable dansak, chilli naan, and onion bargie that I shared with my love. Loaded with veggies and delicious. Service super attentive by Radin made us feel well looked after. Prices affordable. Highly recommend. We’ll be back.

Twice ordered and different food both times for delivery. The food arrived bang on time both times and was hot. The taste of all the dishes was delicious. Their Dal Tarka is superb and the naans soft and fluffy. Definitely will order again

Called in for a meal last night with my wife and friends. Service as ever good, friendly, and attentive. Food was...wonderful. Tried a new dish, Haliali chicken? It was to die for. I will be back soon.

Food was OK service was terrible. Would have maybe had another drink but nobody came and asked if everything was OK with the meal or would like any more drinks. Card machine wasn't working either although it managed to work OK for a regular customer! Won't be returning.

The food was Luke warm and completely tasteless, the butter chicken was far too sweet and the chicken tikka didn’t taste of anything. The lamb chops looked promising however they were so tough I thought they were going to offer me out for a fight! They were so chewy and inedible. Really disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend. It was a waste of £40 I might as well of stood in a field and set fire to 2 £20 notes… still would of been warmer than the curry I received.

Unbelievable food and a great price too

It was much better than I expected. This was one of the best mouth-watering lamb shank I've had!! grace my taste buds in a long time. I found the ambiance to be very charming. Try out the huge selection of incredible appetiser’s. I was happy to see how clean everything was. 5 stars!

Been meaning to try this place for ages having heard good reviews from friends, wow what a lovely meal with family, had pickle tray and poppadoms was all lovely and fresh no oily poppadoms like some places, onion bhaji starter was sublime , main course had Lamb Bhuna Balti with chapati , was suberb and the lamb just melts in your mouth, 660ml bottles of Cobra were reasonably priced also, would highly recommend the staff are so helpful and give such very warm friendly feeling , will definitely come again. Thank you for making my birthday meal so special. Worth more than five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
