TAAS Restaurant in York

Just had dinner at Taas and it was so delicious. Staff are so lovely and helpful and the prices are so reasonable 5 star from me 👍

The best restaurant with Indian and Nepalese cuisine! Very delicious food and good service. We stay two days in York and after first try decided come back for next day dinner too. We had momo with lamb, butter chicken, chicken Tikka masala, saap/palak paneer and garlic naan. Momo's level is OMG! Highly recommended

It is one of the best nepalese restaurants that i have ever been.

Not the usual glitzy outside appearance. However, the food was really enjoyable and the staff friendly. Definitely recommend a visit

Excellent no frills Nepali food in the middle of York! The waitress was very detail oriented and noted spice levels on everything we ordered! Highly recommend the chicken momos. The daal/lentils were delicious and hit close to home! Service was friendly and fast. Highly recommend.

Wow . We have visited York many times and always eaten the usual Mediterranean style or larger chains however while strolling around looking for something new we stumbled across TAAS although a little apprehensive as spicy food is not our go to we ventured in . On entering the welcome was very warm the staff were quite charming and sat us at our table they explained the various dishes to us and then asked what sort of spice level we liked and gave us a scale from 1 to 10 being new to this sort of choice we opted for 5 on hearing this the table next to us gave a sharp intake of breath and recommended 3 if we weren’t used to spice so following their advise we chose this option . The food arrived and wow it was fresh piping hot and perfectly spiced for our pallet. We could not believe such a gem was available in York we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and we be visiting again when next in York thank you for such an awesome dining experience bravo to all the staff

Unfortunately, we were unable to get seated in the restaurant - so, we ordered food to take away! Wow! Beautiful! Superb starters, fresh and crispy poppadoms and lovely curries! Loads of it too!

Absolutely delicious food. Never had Nepalese but the menu has clear descriptions and they cook it as hot as you like from 1-10. Will,definitely make a beeline for there again when in york.

Appalling service and no real apology for cold food or the one and a quarter hour wait between courses. Th quality of the food was good, A pity that the evening was spoiled by the service.

Been once before and always very pleasant service. Food arrived in good time and as previous visit very tasty indeed and no complaints in that dept. Could do with an eye on the interior as the atmosphere is very much part of the experience.

We walked in with a party of 6 on a wing and a prayer (valentine's night) but they managed to seat us straight away which was great. Service was brilliant, all the staff were friendly and even helped some of the party choose a dish as they were struggling picking a main. Food came out quickly and was amazing. Visited here last Friday for a birthday celebration and was really looked after. On arrival was shown to our window table by a lovely woman and a birthday card was waiting for us. We all ordered different dishes and each one was lovely especially the dumplings. Food was fresh and delicious. Drinks were very reasonably priced so was the food and the ambience of the place was good. The staff were amazing and even presented me with a birthday ice cream while singing happy birthday which made it a lovely occasion. Well worth a visit and hopefully we will return again when in York.

The food was very tasty. We went on the very Christmas day so I don't know if it's that or every other day, I felt it was a little pricey but since the taste was very good, I can't really complain. We liked all the dishes here.

We were drawn here by the delicious smell emanating frim the restaurant, after a show at the Theatre Royal. we were treated to the most delicious thalis in basic but warm and friendly surroundings. Staff were friendly too. Napalese cuisine, spiced to your taste.

For such a little place, it is a gem of a find. I like how they ask exactly how spicy you want each dish. We ordered 3 main courses, and a selection of rice and breads. The food was perfection. The staff are so friendly, I can certainly see why people return.

We had a lovely meal at Taas this evening. The staff were very friendly and food was fantastic. I really enjoyed everything we had (vegetable pakora, chicken tikka, chicken Gurkha curry, dal, garlic naan and pilau rice). Very reasonable as well. I’m sure we we will go back :)

Found this place just around the corner from where we were staying at Minster Hub on Gillygate, we didn't have a booking but they accomodated us no problem, got a lovely table for 2 in the window We both had starters and curries for mains.......

First visit to Taas on 6th December 2023. This is simple. Lived in York all my life and this is THE BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT IN YORK. Outstanding quality. Can't wait to return.

Great hot Nepalese food here. We had the momo and a dish with a combination of sauces. Think it’s quite authentic and the owner is very nice to ask how spicy the food we want. Would recommended to anyone who wanna have a break from western food while travelling.

A great Nepalese restaurant not far from the city centre. A bit rustic but the food was delicious and not too damaging on the wallet. We will be planning a trip back in the new year. Staff very friendly, you can select your own heat, 1 to 10 (hot), I had 7 for my Gurkha curry, next time it will be a 6. With a bottle of wine and 2 mains it came to £45.

Terrible. I ordered momos, Everest lamb and steamed rice. You get about 10 momos with the broth and side which is acceptable for £10. On a first bite yes they are nice but then you look and realise they are all far too uniform and are shop bought - absolutely not made on the premises so I could have zipped to oriental express and got some for the freezer! No happy. The broth was a bit bland. Then we move to the curry - do you think the customer is stupid? I could taste allspice and it hadn’t cooked out so was horrible and overpowering. The lamb was as tough as old boots so had not cooked off enough either. I was gonna give leftovers to my teen son but I chucked it down the toilet instead as I want him to know quality and this was not how Nepalese food should taste. What sort of clowns are running this parade?!!

Excellent food, a bit different to the norm. We visited twice, which is pretty unusual for us. Although the menu is limited we enjoyed both meals. I would have given 5 stars but the toilet facilities let the place down.

Fantastic food in a cozy atmosphere. Never had Nepalese before so based on reviews I tried a lamb appetizer and the Annapurna Thali (lamb variant). Terrific. And had two 500ml beers (~17oz each). All for £30 before tip (which I gave generously). Great place with a great streetside view as well

We tried five dishes. Everything was very tasty, the butter chicken and chicken masala were our favorites. The spices were amazing. We dipped the momos in the masala sauce it was even better.

We hadn't booked but were able to be seated in the first section of the restaurant which feels a bit disconnected from the main restaurant but at least we got a table - we will make sure we book next time. The food here is absolutely delicious and you are able to choose the strength of how you want your curry on a scale of 1 to 10. We had chicken rogan josh, butter chicken, poppadoms, chutneys, rice and garlic naan. We could not fault how lovely the food was and the service was fantastic, such lovely, happy staff. The bill was £37 with 2 drinks, well worth it! We will definitely return (will book for the main restaurant next time we are in town).

Although TASS isn't much to look at from the outside, appearances are deceptive. The service and quality of food is among the best we have experienced, including restaurants charging much greater prices. The menu is straightforward and easy to understand. The waitress asks for the desired chilli strength on a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being extremely hot! I had a 6 while my wife was very happy with a 1. TAAS was recommended to us by the Exhibition Hotel across the road where we were staying. Our first evening's experience was so good that we returned the next evening - and again we were not disappointed. Overall, an exceptional restaurant for service, cleanliness, food quality and price.

If you do nothing else during your visit to York, please have dinner in this restaurant! We only stayed for 3 nights, but ate here for 2. The food is OUTSTANDING. The service is honestly the best you could ask for. A family run restaurant, they care so much about your dining experience, they remembered us from the first night we visited, and went out of their way to ensure we had a fabulous night again. The lamb Momo’s were like nothing else we have ever tasted. Phenomenal. The Annapurna Thali gives you a flavour of all the dhals, chutneys & curry they offer. The tomato chutney is an out of body experience & the broth… oh my word the broth… do one good thing & visit!! We are 7 hours away, but we will be back for more in the future. Thank you all so very much for two dining experiences we will never forget.

Come here all the time, sometimes we’ve been 3 times a week and every time the thali is absolutely amazing. Great value but fantastic quality food too. Cannot fault anything, the service is also fantastic - so friendly and really welcoming!
