It lived up to it's reputation.

Excellent atmosphere and food. It’s local for us but would travel if wanting a fantastic Indian. We are definitely coming again and would recommend anyone else to also come and visit.

Great food great experience. Anything you want ask for they will make it happen. Bring your own alcoholic drinks and a great selection of soft for everyone.

Best curry I’ve eaten in the UK. Tried the place after my wife’s boss recommended it and it was lovely, the staff were friendly and chatty (shout out to the delivery driver) and the food was amazing. Had the mad Chef special and I don’t know why the chef is mad about it, tasty food and at a good price. Will definitely be going again.

My family and I had a wonderful family meal at the Bengal Lounge yesterday evening. We all had the Sunday lunch Special (it doesn't open until 5pm.) The food was tasty and plentiful and the staff were friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us 😀 Even my little grandaughter got smiles from the staff which was lovely to see 😊 My husband usually suffers with his tummy after Indian food, but not this time. He was fine and is still raving about the meal 👏👏👏 Thank you Bengal, well done! 👌

Went to try Indian Bengali food had set meal great staff and Raahul. Had set meal £12.95 no ice cream so they gave us flake ice scream from shops. Once again great service and try chef special with omelette 💋

I've eaten in and ordered takeaway for delivery. This time I went to order a takeaway and was accommodated very well. It was great to see a full restaurant and smells from the food were great!

Lovely place - not the most incredible food/service but a good local curry house

We were disappointed with our takeaway. Only, the poppadoms and Naans were decent. The Korma was runny and a bit bland. Furthermore, we were disappointed to find we were given a vegetable dish that was an alarming red colour and tasted processed and like it was made from frozen stir fry veg instead of the chicken dish that we ordered. The vegetable dish had lots of mushrooms which one of us can't eat. On phoning was told the chef made an error and it will be put right when we next visit the restaurant. We are not local and would we visit again? No. There are far better places to visit. The first takeaway curry we've ever had where the bag was more than half full of leftovers afterwards.

Myself And my Parter Traveled From Gloucester To York to see family, I asked my cousin where he would recommend To Eat, Iam soooo glad he recommended this place, GREAT SERVICE FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE, POLITE, WHEELCHAIR ACCESS WAS GOOD! PICKLE TRAY WAS THE BEST EVER NAN BREAD OMG!!!! I WILL BE GOING BACK! Nothing was to much effort for these guy ALL BRILLIANT!

Family owned business. We've been to quite a few Indian restaurants, but this Bengali lounge trumps them all. Service is friendly and the dishes were excellent. Highly recommended!

Food is superb, fresh, tasty and not swimming in ghee...staff are attentive without being in your face and Ismail is a all in one top bloke ...might be a bit off the beaten track but well worth the trip..and a cheeky pint in the Quaker Wood is always a joy.

I really can't rate the Bengal Lounge enough. I've had meals in and take out s. Excellent in every way. I'm going there for my 60th Birthday because it's absolutely the best place to eat. All of their dishes are excellent as we go as a party and have different dishes. No complaints at all

What a fantastic place, brilliant food and staff, went with a large family group for a birthday celebration. The owner presented us with a birthday cake, made by his daughter. Nice touch, thank you for a memorable night, will definitely be returning.

Highly recommend! We went there for the first time last as a party of 17 to celebrate a big birthday. It’s a lovely restaurant with a lovely ambience and tastefully decorated. A little jewel in an area you wouldn’t expect to find an Indian restaurant. The food was delicious and we all got our food at the same time which is no easy task with a group of 17. The staff are friendly and can’t do enough for you. We will definitely return

Went for the Sunday Special with friends and our kids. As usual we were blown away with the quality of the food and how friendly and amazing the staff were. The deal on a Sunday is a no brainer, such good value for money and the quality of the food is as excellent as any other night. I can highly recommend the madras never fails to hit the spot. I was also lucky enough to win an amazing prize of a £50 voucher via their facebook page a couple of weeks aswell which i cant wait to spend soon with my family. As always we came away with a full belly, an amazing experience and can't wait to go back again soon 😊

An amazing experience. Lovely people to have serving you and the food was out of this world. I love curry and it's easy to say but this food is by far the most tasty in York. Utterly amazing, streets ahead of anything else I've had in York (and countrywide). Just beautiful.

We had been recommended this restaurant by our son and, as soon as the food arrived, we could see why. Really tasty and fresh and not the usual generic dishes but really interesting ones. The use of seasonings was superb and you could discern what individual ones had been used. Service was friendly and swift, despite the restaurant being busy. Excellent value too at around £20 per head for an assortment of nine dishes.

1st time takeaway, via recommendations. Fairly priced to others in York. Food ordered, £45 for 3 main meals including 3 nann breads. Was asked if I'd like poppadoms and pickle tray. Obviously weren't free. I said most places give them FOC. To the reply, this time only. We'll charge you in future 🤔🙄 Food arrives. No rice. Ring back. Rice arrives, 25 minutes after the original order arrives. But the rice is in child portion containers. Not good, in my eye's. Reshmi kebab, was a tasty starter. The Chicken Rangeela was very tasty. Bit too much Gee. The garlic & chilli nann, complete let down. I'd expect fresh chilli's, not chilli flakes, and it was very doughy. Definitely not the best, be closer to the worst nann bread I've ever eaten 😒 😑. The wife was happy with her Korma, plenty of chicken and sauce. But , I'll stick to my local preferred takeaway from now on. I'd like to say it was great experience. But , sadly. I don't lie.

Great spot, best mix of pickle tray we've had in a while, different and tasty dishes and the friendliest owner and staff. Will be going back soon, very happy.

Me and my partner came for the first time tonight. Weve been together 3 years & never had an indian together so thought we'd try my local. We were served by Ismail, who was very professional, chatty & polite. We were made to feel at ease straight away. He had a joke with me ordering a korma because I'm "a light weight" he's not wrong! Food was beautiful & we said straight away that we'd definitely come back. Thank you to all the team for such a pleasant first experience

A large (shared) car park for drivers & within walking distance for residents in Dringhouses, Woodthorpe & Acomb Park. This excellent Indian Restaurant is not licensed, so take your own selection of drink(s) … A very comprehensive menu & lots of Chefs Recommendations, so you will be most definitely “spoilt for choice” in fact, you may need to revisit, to try other items on the menu that you couldn’t try on this visit! Not that expensive, bearing in mind you don’t have the cost of drinks, but do nite it is a Cash Only restaurant. Well Worth A Visit!

Disappointing food ,read great reviews so booked . Staff very attentive and friendly but the quality of the food let it down . Onion Bhaji was dry and crumbled to pieces - it was like it was a reheated oven baked left over not the best . The chicken tikka was low in flavour and obviously not cooked in a tandoor as it came as a sizzling griddle but the chicken was very dry and lacked flavour and i leftmost if it . Even the naan bread was a bit stodgy not nice fluffy slightly charred overall the food was a let down

Superb we was on a weekend away from stockport and came across this little gem we've been all over for curries from Leeds to Worcester and for food quality this us up there with the best great little family run restaurant fully recommend it staff are a credit

Disgusting...2 meals £30+ never had something so horrible and inedible. Tikka Massala was bright red in colour and too spicy, naan doughy and no filling, mushroom rice barely any mushrooms. A couple of fork fulls and it all went in the bin

Went here on Sunday after hearing about their award . Basically the restaurant is like a work canteen.. tiny . We sat in the middle with lots of drunk guests shouting and balling going in and out to tesco to get more cheap beer. Was more like a lads works do get together in a pub , could not even hear my partner talk to me . Every time the waiter passed me, he nudged my chair as place so small . One toilet unisex and had to wait ages for a piss. The wait for the meal was ages. I was disappointed as not much taste was expecting more flavour. Then it's cash only, which has its benefits of avoiding uk tax payments. Will not be going back will be sticking to my local Ginnah

Went here with family last week and it was amazing. I had the chicken Tikka Masala which had such a wonderful flavour and the Naan I had with it was beautiful and fluffy too. The service was also excellent, the staff were very welcoming and we were served our food in very reasonable time. Overall I would strongly recommend!

Tried this place for the first time. Ordered a takeaway, arrived at the agreed time, got it home and it was cold. Phoned up to complain and they hung up. At this point it doesnt really matter what the food tastes like as i wont be going back.

Stumbled upon this place by accident while staying At the nurseries campsite. Probably the best stumble of our life. The front of house staff were welcoming and friendly, the service was excellent and the food was outstanding. Doesn’t serve alcohol but you bring your own. ( tesco express right next door which is super handy). Would definitely recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be visiting again next time we are on the area. Just amazing 🎉

Absolutely delicious food! We have wanted to try this for a while and so glad we did, food was so nice and service was good too, everyone was very friendly. We going to return when family visits and we will definitely be back on our own too

Excellent food and service, it’s a hidden gem.

OK so place was very small. Waiters are nice enough but just a job to them. As for the curries they are not the worst I have had but very sweet and sickly gone over the top with sugar. Keema nans were pretty good but the kema was not spread out evenly leaving half a nan kema and the other half plain. The kema rice was really nice but the pilau needed more ghee butter was almost like plain boiled rice. I would not be racing back to eat from here again as It is very average. This has got to be the sweetest madras I have ever eaten in my life slow down on the sugar folks. I like my mains to be mains not deserts.

A small and pleasant environment with seating for dining in and takeaway service available. We had poppadoms served with five 'toppings' that tasted fresh and flavoursome. We had a starter each, prawn puree and zaal meat with chillies. Very tasty and as you would expect the chillies made zaal meat dish very spicy. My wife had tikka massala while I had the nawabi. Both meals were tasty and decent portions and we recommend them both. Overall it was very enjoyable meal and we hope to revisit before our holiday finishes. Cash payment and there's a cash machine at Tesco about 20yds away. If you want alcohol I believe you can take your own as they don't sell any but we don't drink so didn't enquire about that. Again Tesco is only 20yds away so you can nip in for wine or whatever.

Lovely Family Restaurant. Beautiful Food - Sunday Saver Menu is beyond a bargain for the quality of the food. The Restaurant even arranged a cake for our birthdays which was a really lovely gesture and touch. My little girl loved her first proper chicken korma and the lads gave her plenty of attention. I’ll be recommending to anyone who will listen!

The food was excellent. We have been disappointed by our local Indian restaurant, so we thought we would try here, to celebrate my son's exam results. We were all very happy with the food, which was delicious. However, I booked the table by messaging them, asking for a certain time. They asked if we could do earlier, so we agreed a new time. This means that we had to rush to get ready, as time was tight. But, on arrival they said they they messaged again to change back to the original time (I checked later & they hadn't), so it was all a bit awkward. So, as I didn't want to cause a scene, I took the give off us for a drink at the pub. I didn't really want to spend this extra £20, but didn't have many options, given the freezing, sleety weather outside. Furthermore, as the room was very small, one very loud group made it almost deafening. So conversation was difficult. All that said, I really enjoyed the food, and think that we will be using their take away service from now on, and the table service was very good.

Ordered a takeaway from here for the first time. A wide range of options available including an impressive number of vegetarian dishes. Friendly service and takeaway ready on time. We had 4 different main courses each with their own distinctive flavours. Will definately be ordering from you again.

The interior of the restaurant is bland and boring. It's very cheap hence they they use cheap ingredients, you get what you pay I'd rather pay more for a much nicer curry.

First time been here won't be going again. The place is like a canteen rather than a restaurant. Food was bland and had no taste ,naan bread tasted burnt and couldn't taste almonds in it. I've given a star for the service and a star for the cake they supplied.

First time we have ordered and we have family over from India so chose this place for the high stars. As residents we took advantage of the 10% discount for pick up. However when we arrived home we found one of the dishes missing. We thought it was annoying enough that we were going to have to delay dinner to go back to get it, but we were even more dismayed to hear that apparently they didn't charge us for it. Which was interesting as we had put everything in the basket online and with 10% off it came to that exact price. After 5 mins on the phone with the guy pretending that is because the prices are different now, he gave us free coke and other spouts of rubbish .. we explained that we could book this online now and get that price.. he no longer had anything to say. Disgusted at the lack of ownership when they made a mistake and charged us for a dish we didn't have, we then had to go to an alternative curry house to get the dish and to keep everyone waiting. What disgusting customer service in times when ordering out is a treat. Will never order again! Maybe you should realise how important your customers are .. or you won't have a business! Take ownership of your mistakes and don't take advantage of people!
