Bengal Lounge in York

Not from the area so had to rely on Google for recommendations and Bengal Lounge came up as the best curry house. Wow it did not disappoint. We had the seekh kebab and mixed starters. I then had the chicken Saagwala and my other half took a chance on one of the 'mad chef' specials no 4, pilau rice, special naan and peshwari naan. Food was fresh and tasty, great portions. Plenty of flavour and spice. Great service from Syed and Sid, made for a fantastic evening. Would call again and highly recommend

We sat in for food on Saturday night. The food was amazing, so much so we took the leftovers home. Lovely staff amd even got a lift home . Highly recommend.

We had such a brilliant night here, I have never seen such an extensive menu! Staff were so accommodating for my wheat allergy, and were totally clued up on what was and was not gluten free. The food was so fresh and tasty, the service was amazing too. We will definitely be back! Special shout out to Ishmael who kept us entertained all night.

The place is quite small and popular, so would recommend booking. We found the food delicious and high quality. The staff advised us to use the Sunday special which was fantastic value. The restaurant is cash only however, and they do not have an alcohol licence, so bring your own! We did find the staff are very friendly, however if you are not into friendly banter then this might not be the place for you, as it's very frequent. Overall I would recommend, but perhaps not if you are looking for a quite laid back meal.

We went last night, had a brill meal and the staff were great, attentive, funny and quick.The food was great we all enjoyed our dinners and had the chance of a meal taken off the final bill if we guessed the total correct!! I was a penny off! Will be definitely going again.

We had a takeaway last night and it was terrible. The korma was just sauce only 7 small pieces of chicken. Peshwari naan had no taste other than bread as did the garlic naan. The madras was a nice flavour and did have more chicken in it. Such a shame as this used to be nice. Is it because it was a takeaway? Shouldn’t make a difference really.

A nice small restaurant. 9 tables. Great menu choices. I went for the special. Chicken Noarbi. Really nice people serving. Bring own booze as none available from the bar. That's ok because there is a Tesco next door and they will open and provide a glass.

Great food here. Family run and the staff are all friendly, helpful and up for a bit of banter. I keep coming back and introducing more friends to this little spot. It never disappoints.

Saw the great reviews online and completely agree with them. The place is small and popular so make sure you book in advance. It is also cash only and bring your own booze so prepare for this. Food was amazing. Portion size great. The guys were friendly and helpful. Had a chilli massala and my wife had a tikka balti. Very tasty. Would genuinely come again. Thanks guys.

Ordered takeout tonight from bengal after lots of recommendations. We had the order delivered to us which came in good time. The food was satisfactory but some of the items, I.e, the chips, naans and one of the curry’s were on the cooler side by the time we received them. We also then found the tandoori chicken to be on the bone, this was not stated anywhere on the website but have since informed them that this should be updated as not all people like to eat chicken off the bone. We did call up and were not compensated in anyway however the server on the line was polite. All in all a decent enough Indian.

Great, family run restaurant. Lovely food. Something for everyone. A ‘staff curry’ which is always worth trying where you find it. There’s the usual favourites but also quite a lot of unusual dishes you won’t get anywhere else. Excellent service. Bring your own booze, Tesco Extra next door!

Best curry I’ve eaten in the UK. Tried the place after my wife’s boss recommended it and it was lovely, the staff were friendly and chatty (shout out to the delivery driver) and the food was amazing. Had the mad Chef special and I don’t know why the chef is mad about it, tasty food and at a good price. Will definitely be going again.

My family and I had a wonderful family meal at the Bengal Lounge yesterday evening. We all had the Sunday lunch Special (it doesn't open until 5pm.) The food was tasty and plentiful and the staff were friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us 😀 Even my little grandaughter got smiles from the staff which was lovely to see 😊 My husband usually suffers with his tummy after Indian food, but not this time. He was fine and is still raving about the meal 👏👏👏 Thank you Bengal, well done! 👌

Went to try Indian Bengali food had set meal great staff and Raahul. Had set meal £12.95 no ice cream so they gave us flake ice scream from shops. Once again great service and try chef special with omelette 💋

I've eaten in and ordered takeaway for delivery. This time I went to order a takeaway and was accommodated very well. It was great to see a full restaurant and smells from the food were great!

Lovely place - not the most incredible food/service but a good local curry house

We were disappointed with our takeaway. Only, the poppadoms and Naans were decent. The Korma was runny and a bit bland. Furthermore, we were disappointed to find we were given a vegetable dish that was an alarming red colour and tasted processed and like it was made from frozen stir fry veg instead of the chicken dish that we ordered. The vegetable dish had lots of mushrooms which one of us can't eat. On phoning was told the chef made an error and it will be put right when we next visit the restaurant. We are not local and would we visit again? No. There are far better places to visit. The first takeaway curry we've ever had where the bag was more than half full of leftovers afterwards.

Myself And my Parter Traveled From Gloucester To York to see family, I asked my cousin where he would recommend To Eat, Iam soooo glad he recommended this place, GREAT SERVICE FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE, POLITE, WHEELCHAIR ACCESS WAS GOOD! PICKLE TRAY WAS THE BEST EVER NAN BREAD OMG!!!! I WILL BE GOING BACK! Nothing was to much effort for these guy ALL BRILLIANT!

Food is superb, fresh, tasty and not swimming in ghee...staff are attentive without being in your face and Ismail is a all in one top bloke ...might be a bit off the beaten track but well worth the trip..and a cheeky pint in the Quaker Wood is always a joy.

I really can't rate the Bengal Lounge enough. I've had meals in and take out s. Excellent in every way. I'm going there for my 60th Birthday because it's absolutely the best place to eat. All of their dishes are excellent as we go as a party and have different dishes. No complaints at all

Highly recommend! We went there for the first time last as a party of 17 to celebrate a big birthday. It’s a lovely restaurant with a lovely ambience and tastefully decorated. A little jewel in an area you wouldn’t expect to find an Indian restaurant. The food was delicious and we all got our food at the same time which is no easy task with a group of 17. The staff are friendly and can’t do enough for you. We will definitely return

An amazing experience. Lovely people to have serving you and the food was out of this world. I love curry and it's easy to say but this food is by far the most tasty in York. Utterly amazing, streets ahead of anything else I've had in York (and countrywide). Just beautiful.

Went for the Sunday Special with friends and our kids. As usual we were blown away with the quality of the food and how friendly and amazing the staff were. The deal on a Sunday is a no brainer, such good value for money and the quality of the food is as excellent as any other night. I can highly recommend the madras never fails to hit the spot. I was also lucky enough to win an amazing prize of a £50 voucher via their facebook page a couple of weeks aswell which i cant wait to spend soon with my family. As always we came away with a full belly, an amazing experience and can't wait to go back again soon 😊

We had been recommended this restaurant by our son and, as soon as the food arrived, we could see why. Really tasty and fresh and not the usual generic dishes but really interesting ones. The use of seasonings was superb and you could discern what individual ones had been used. Service was friendly and swift, despite the restaurant being busy. Excellent value too at around £20 per head for an assortment of nine dishes.

Great spot, best mix of pickle tray we've had in a while, different and tasty dishes and the friendliest owner and staff. Will be going back soon, very happy.

1st time takeaway, via recommendations. Fairly priced to others in York. Food ordered, £45 for 3 main meals including 3 nann breads. Was asked if I'd like poppadoms and pickle tray. Obviously weren't free. I said most places give them FOC. To the reply, this time only. We'll charge you in future 🤔🙄 Food arrives. No rice. Ring back. Rice arrives, 25 minutes after the original order arrives. But the rice is in child portion containers. Not good, in my eye's. Reshmi kebab, was a tasty starter. The Chicken Rangeela was very tasty. Bit too much Gee. The garlic & chilli nann, complete let down. I'd expect fresh chilli's, not chilli flakes, and it was very doughy. Definitely not the best, be closer to the worst nann bread I've ever eaten 😒 😑. The wife was happy with her Korma, plenty of chicken and sauce. But , I'll stick to my local preferred takeaway from now on. I'd like to say it was great experience. But , sadly. I don't lie.

Me and my partner came for the first time tonight. Weve been together 3 years & never had an indian together so thought we'd try my local. We were served by Ismail, who was very professional, chatty & polite. We were made to feel at ease straight away. He had a joke with me ordering a korma because I'm "a light weight" he's not wrong! Food was beautiful & we said straight away that we'd definitely come back. Thank you to all the team for such a pleasant first experience

Yes, you will want to Come Back … Located across the car park from The Quaker Wood, public house in Acomb Park, York. A large (shared) car park for drivers & within walking distance for residents in Dringhouses, Woodthorpe & Acomb Park. This excellent Indian Restaurant is not licensed, so take your own selection of drink(s) … A very comprehensive menu & lots of Chefs Recommendations, so you will be most definitely “spoilt for choice” in fact, you may need to revisit, to try other items on the menu that you couldn’t try on this visit! Not that expensive, bearing in mind you don’t have the cost of drinks, but do nite it is a Cash Only restaurant. Well Worth A Visit!

Disappointing food ,read great reviews so booked . Staff very attentive and friendly but the quality of the food let it down . Onion Bhaji was dry and crumbled to pieces - it was like it was a reheated oven baked left over not the best . The chicken tikka was low in flavour and obviously not cooked in a tandoor as it came as a sizzling griddle but the chicken was very dry and lacked flavour and i leftmost if it . Even the naan bread was a bit stodgy not nice fluffy slightly charred overall the food was a let down

Such lovely staff and beautiful food. Felt very comfortable and well looked after. It was one of the best curries we have had. Easy parking and navigation. Not far from city center but quite and nice atmosphere. Definitely recommend
