We arrived at the Crown and Cushion with high hopes after a long walk (9 miles) but sadly the experience let us down badly. My flat iron steak was tasteless and run through with sinu. I took it home for the dog. My husband Chicken and Leek Pie was very strange looking but still edible. Food 1 out of 10 !!!!!!!!!!! To rub salt into the wound there was a 10% service charge😤 added automatically. The two girls who served us were lovely but we did ask for the service charge to be removed. Will never return. Next day after another long walk we went to the Blacksmiths Arms in Westow - had a completely different experience 10 out of 10 for food, service, atmos, price and no Service Charge !!!!! 😎😎☺️☺️

This place used to be amazing. Unfortunately it is now a run down poor excuse of its former self. We pulled into the car park almost sure that the restaurant had closed down. The place looked in a state of disrepair with paint falling of the walls and window frames. We were just about to leave when a member of staff came out and assured us they were open. Dubiously we went in, remembering how great it used to be. Inside, the decor was not much better, it was very tired, in need of some TLC and investment but as we were the only people in the place I guess that investment won't be coming any time soon as this place cannot possibly be trading very much longer unless it survives on take-away trade. Upon taking our drinks order, we were disappointed to be informed that they had no beer (draught or bottled) so had soft drinks. Unfortunately the disappointment didn't stop there as when our main courses came out, one was inedible and the other extremely salty to the point where it was only just edible. To be fair, the staff did offer to replace both of our meals, but we felt that the damage was done and just wanted to leave. I would strongly recommend you avoid this place, it is certainly not what it used to be. Such a huge shame.

Very nice atmosphere, staff are welcoming and the pub is dog friendly. I had fish and chips and they were amazing. The other pub in the village that we went to across the road had friendly staff but it smelt funny and not very welcoming so i would highly recommend The Buck in rather than the other one.

I went in to lavenders this morning with my son and my baby. The staff were rude & refused to let us in because I had a pram. There was obviously enough space for us to sit at a table and for the pram to fit out of the way of anyone else. To refuse someone entry because do this is disgusting. Amongst talking to others it’s come to my understanding a lot of people have had similar experiences of very rude behaviour from staff especially the male manager. Even a woman today got told she has to take off her boots to be able to enter the cafe. Not to mention a friend of mine left working their because again the male manager was confused to why she wouldn’t approach people immediately as they come in to take their order without even giving them a chance to do so and told her she would never have a carer in this industry because of that reason which is utterly ridiculous. We went to a cafe across the road instead and the staff were lovely and very accommodating. God forbid what they’d say to someone who uses a wheelchair! DO NOT GO TO THIS CAFE! Disgusting behaviour

Popped in for breakfast today at this lovely looking farm shop and cafe with indoor and outdoor seating areas. Ordered 2 breakfasts at the counter which arrived very quickly and were well presented. However we were soon disappointed as the bacon was like leather and stone cold as were the baked beans and the sausages .Having paid £11.95 for each breakfast you’d expect it all to be piping hot.We left disgruntled and definitely won’t be returning.

Noyon what can I say food was average at best. Edible but not really bang for your buck. We got in around 7pm on a fairly quiet Friday and after sitting down could reasonably understand why. The decor was very out dated and the rug maybe should’ve been changed a while ago. Nonetheless I had a chicken dish and my wife wanted her lamb rogan Josh as she’d become a fan of it in recent times. My dish was swimming in oil and very bland and frankly tasteless but the naan bread that accompanied the meal added some sort of flavour. My wife’s meal I’m afraid was far from impressive and may have deterred her from ordering another rogan Josh again. The lamb had a god awful smell and when the waiter had come to our table and observed the smell himself he immediately took it straight back into the kitchen. Credit to the waiter he hasn’t a clue what the chef had cooked and cut it off our bill while also given us the drinks we’d ordered on the house. It was a nice gesture but unfortunately I don’t think we’ll ever return there again.

I went here with my partner. The place wasn't busy but we waited over an hour for our food. When it arrived it wasn't hot but if it had been it may have been tasty. Outside of the waiting the service was good with polite and embarrassed servers apologising for the protracted wait. We won't be returning.

Had afternoon tea at The Hidden Monkey on a whim. Didn't need to book. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was fantastic; unfussy, well presented and damn tasty. I am an experienced home baker and I think their cakes are outstanding. Lovely staff, fabulous food, what more do you need?

Possibly the worst dining experience we have ever had in a pub. We should never have gone in after being warned there was a party of 18 booked, and had we realised how incredibly noisy they were going to be, we would have gone away. I had to take a tablet half an hour before eating, so my husband asked for us to be served in half an hour. The large party's orders were taken and the food delivered long before ours arrived, and they were ordering their desserts; a couple near us who had come in after us were served. I was getting anxious, because if more than an hour goes by without eating, my stomach tablet doesn't work. My husband had to go and ask about our order, because I was getting very anxious and also getting a migraine because of the noisy party, who were constantly yelling to each other. I went to the loo, which was up a step (so not wheelchair friendly, though the entrance is), which were less than clean, and one of the toilets didn't even have a seat. I mean, a new seat isn't exactly dear! There were a lot of signs up abut drugs, so it looks like there is a drug problem. My meal was there when I got back to the table, but it was barely edible. The chicken had been warmed up too long in the microwave and was too hard and overdone to eat, and the cheese was congealed and rubbery. They brought us a free drink to say sorry but we just wanted to get out of there as quick as we could. To add insult to injury, the large party had blocked us in with one of their many vehicles. The interior was dark and dingy and depressing. This was the first time we'd eaten anywhere in Pickering and we wish we hadn't bothered and just eaten in the hotel we were staying in, thankfully not this one.
