We didn't stay, so I can't comment on the rooms. The service and locals are friendly at this local pub. They have a good range of refreshments and the food looks good. I haven't eaten here recently, so I can only comment on what I have seen. I love the town and surrounding area.

My husband and myself were staying in the area and fancied a spot of lunch. We chose The Kings Head as I had read online that it was dog friendly. My husband had the burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. It was hot, cooked well and hit the spot. I had the scampi and was happy that it was wholetail and not formed. Both meals were reasonably priced, the bar was stocked with a good selection of drinks and the service was outstanding. Super friendly. Would definitely return when in the area.

Great pub meal whilst we were staying in the area. Lots of gluten free options on the menu too for a member of our family. Quick communication from the staff when I had a query prior to our visit and easy table booking. Good value as well. Nice, relaxed pub with friendly staff.

Called in 19th June for lunch without booking a table. We received a warm, friendly, welcome from a very pleasant young lady behind the bar. We ordered 2 home made steak pies. One with chips and one with mash potatoes and both with fresh vegetables. Our meals were served in a timely manner, served hot, flavoursome, plentifull and delicious. We both thoroughly enjoyed the meal, ambience of The Kings Head and friendliness of the bar assistant. She kindly advised me that there was a promotion on a pint of my chosen lager as opposed to half a pint. A gesture that I appreciated. Parking is good straight outside this lovely market place pub/hotel. Eating here you won't be disappointed. Would recomend and return. Many Thanks

I called the kings head and they answered and they managed to get me 2 rooms with my dog straight away for a good price. They were so helpful and friendly. They went above and beyond! The breakfast was good too. I would highly recommend them and definitely be going back. Thanks again!

We stayed in Kirkbymoorside for a week, and ate at this place twice. The first time we ate, the food took nearly an hour. The second time, it was out like a flash. Both meals were tasty however! And to be fair, we weren't in a rush, so we didn't mind having a drink whilst we waited. It really wasn't a problem, but maybe just a heads up that the food is going to take a while would be nice - perhaps we could have ordered a starter to pick at whilst we waited? I think your serving staff are lovely and attentive, but maybe just need to show a bit more initiative. My glass was empty for my entire main course, and I didn't want to get up and leave my food to wait at the bar. Anyone walking past could have politely asked if I'd like another. Not going to knock more than one point off. I'd happily go back to this place. It was the best food we had in Kirkbymoorside, it was the friendliest place, arguably the most reasonably priced - and they had a cat snuggling next to us on the bench to boot. Only knocking a point off because it wasn't perfect. Wouldn't stop me going back though!

Having researched dog friendly pubs near our holiday cottage we stopped here having travelled from Essex. Really friendly, welcoming staff ( Bob) who, despite having closed the kitchen, saw how disappointed we were (and starving hungry!) when they said the kitchen had just closed. Chef Emma very kindly made us a couple of sandwiches and chips which was lovely. Ate here on 2 further occasions, of which one was Sunday lunch. The roast dinner was really tasty with generous portions but….. the Crunchie cheesecake was THE best cheesecake I have ever tasted. Wish we lived closer but will be popping in again for sure if we are in the area. Thanks to all the staff at The Kings Head for your hospitality. Ellen, Steve and Bertie the Beagle. X

My friend and I ( and my dog ) stayed in kirbymoorside over New Year and visited the Kings Head twice during our stay . super dog friendly with a lovely friendly , comfortable atmosphere . We ate once and the food was lovely and hot and freshly made to order . No complaints at all . I happened to lose an earring on New Year’s Eve and emailed the kings head on my return home just in case they had come across it - I was so upset at losing it as it was a present and was special to me . They relied straight away and said they had found one and provided a photo and it was mine ! I asked if they minded posting ( with me reimbursing the postage ) as I had now returned to the midlands . They said they would and not to worry about the postage . I have received it today and am so thankful ! Our experience of here and kirbymoorside as a whole was a very positive one - with lovely friendly folk !

Very dated, shabby walls and a rotten floor, not ideal. We had dinner at the hotel, mainly an average choice, but well cooked. Breakfast was also of a decent standard.Unfortunately there’s not much to do in Kirkbymoorside, so we stayed at the hotel all night.Like I mentioned in my title, it was extremely good value at £50 B &B for two people.

Booked for Sunday lunch and arrived looking forward a nice meal for four adults one being a vegetarian. We ordered our drinks and when they arrived we were asked if we would like to order although we had not seen a menu. We were told that the menu was on a blackboard round the corner. On asking what the vegetarian options were for my Daughter we were told that there were none but they could do a sandwich! We were given a Luke warm apology when we paid for our drinks. I booked this table 5 weeks in advance after checking online that vegetarian options were available.

Passing by and decided we needed somewhere to eat. Found the Kings Head on the High Street and popped in. A very welcoming landlady and waitress showed to our table. It was quiet so ordering was quick and easy. I opted for the Fish and the wife the Burger. Took a little time which meant they were cooked to order. Ate here on Weds evening which is obviously a quiet time as the bar maid/waitress/cashier/first aider was the same person all evening. Bless her she did her best but with the need to call for an ambulance for a customer who had a nasty fall along with the card machine packing up she had an awful lot on. The pub was not exactly "quiet" either so I think they were caught out a bit. The food is good and lovely and hot. The home made ice cream and sorbet were great. Family friendly and dogs are allowed if they are quiet. Would recommend.

Booked in Friday 11th May for reunion with six old school pals and partners for two nights.. Shown to small but clean room. (No 2). Too small to be called a double as there is no room for beside cabinets. Wardrobe has only hooks, no rail. Sink in room with sliding door to poky toilet and shower cubicle. Suitcase stand at bottom of bed, small bucket type armchair and a small stand with tea coffee facilities took up most of the room. I refused to pay the £85.00 per night requested at checkout but agreed to £55.00. A colleague was told his room was double booked for the first night and he was booked into another B&B; 15minutes walk away which turned out to be excellent. If you can book the cottage you will get a better deal as that is only £5.00 per night more expensive than a room.

Our first trip to the King's Head on a sunny afternoon for lunch. We sat outside in the lovely garden area after the very friendly bar staff brought our drinks outside and said she would reserve our seats inside if we wanted lunch served inside. A very juicy bacon cheeseburger was ordered and it was delicious. So much so, we returned a couple nights later to have the same burger for dinner. Different waitstaff on hand in the evening and the waiter seemed nervous or new. The cook staff over cooked the same burger I ordered before and it was a wee bit dry on the dinner round. Still packed full with toppings. The chips that come with the burger where overcooked as well on the second visit but fab on the first visit. Highly recommend any of the burgers on the menu. This has been a place that we have not visited often, and that was our loss. It is a great pub with excellent food. The best part is probably the wonderful enthusiasm and good nature shown by the staff.

Good wholesome food and service. Spoiled only by the noise from the bar. My wife had the lasagne and I had the local sausages and mash. Both were well cooked and presented. Service was reasonably quick considering the waitress was also checking in guests and showing them to their room.

We were wandering around Malton looking for somewhere to enjoy a spot of lunch and stumbled across the Spotted Cow, which is right next to the old cattle market pens. We decided to give it a try and we’re so pleased we did. It’s an amazing 16th century building with oak beams and looks very original and unspoilt. We ordered the “Fish and Chips” which were excellent. Crispy batter on the fish and chips cooked thoroughly unlike some places who tend to under cook them, with a side of mushy peas. The prices are very reasonable and it’s good value for money. The owners are new and have only been at the helm for 3 weeks. If they regularly serve up lovely food like this, they’ll do well and we hope it works out for them. On our positive experience today, we’d highly recommended trying the Spotted Cow and don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Ordered the Brie & Bacon and cranberry Sandwich, it was missing the Cranberry so may have been the most tasteless thing I’ve ever ate. Ordered a pudding, the crumble, came with about a shot size of custard. This is the same for the Inn Collection Kings head, thinking it’s a recurring theme to avoid these pubs ! ☹️

Christ what a dump. Dingy. Nice if you’re into sky sports. Thought we would try an alternative to the George and dragon and tempted by the beer garden (very nice and with great potential in summer) so tried a pint of bitter. Now I see why everyone was drinking lager. In Yorkshire ffs! One swallow to see how nice it was. Another to see it was really as bad as the first. No 3rd swig. Vinegar. Clueless cellar management. Taste what you’re serving. Wouldn’t put it on chips. The rest went down a convenient geranium pot. Hope it survives. Vile. Not into confrontation so just left and went to the George and dragon for a delicious pint or 2 of theakston’s best. Avoiding the black swan where someone with TB was coughing his guts up in the smoking area. Avoid both would be my shout.
