Just spent three nights at this beautiful Inn, staying in one of the garden rooms. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and fully equipped. There was a good choice of breakfast options, with locally-sourced food being cooked to order. The atmosphere in the bar in the evening was lovely, with a log fire and fabulous food. Levisham is a quiet village (one road in) that is located in beautiful countryside - the perfect location to 'get away from it all'. We will certainly be re-booking at the Horseshoe Inn.

After spending a lovely night here in January we were keen to go back. Our evening meal was once again absolutely delicious and the pudding was a very generous size. Breakfast however was a little disappointing. I'm sure I mentioned wishing a vegetarian breakfast when I booked, but if I didn't I don't think it's too much to expect them to have a box of veggie sausages in the freezer. I opted for the mushrooms on toast instead and it was exactly what it said on the tin - literally just two mushrooms on a slice of toast. I know you're probably wondering "well what did you expect?" but I've had mushrooms on toast in other cafes/restaurants and they were sooooooo much better than this , e.g. chopped mushrooms tossed with spinach or served with crispy kale. Considering this place has such fab chefs I was expecting a bit more than just two giant mushrooms on a piece of toast. Very disappointing. I also realised this time how small the bathroom was. A hook on the back of the door, a corner shelf (on the wall behind the toilet) or a towel holder would have been very useful as there was no where to put my towel or clothes and I'm not a fan of putting things on the toilet (lid down of course). Perhaps when you go back to somewhere it's never as nice as what you remember. Never mind it was still a lovely stay overall and the staff are all really lovely, friendly and helpful.

Booked here for a 2 night stay whilst touring the north York moors on our bicycles. Quite simply excellent from start to finish. Chatty staff, excellent food, lovely rooms what more could you want. Asked if we could tag an extra night on but fully booked on the Friday. 😢. Heading to the Malayan Spout next. Fingers crossed it’s as good as the Horseshoe Inn.

We stayed (so horseshoe with rooms) for a special occasion. It is a shame that the website makes everything look so great but it really is not that great. Grey hair in the bathroom sinkhole was my first welcome. This was quite a yuck 🤢 intro. The rooms are nice enough. Pillows rock hard though. Rooms are also down the road so felt awkward to ask for anything such as an ironing board (as the person at the bar was also looking after guests). Food okay in the evening. Breakfast not great at all. Tinned fruit. Could really do a lot better with the prices charged.

Wow, what a find! Loved this place! We were staying in Goathland and have visited the sister pub The Fox and Rabbit a few times on previous visits but the lovely ladies at Halmer Grange recommended we try the Horseshoe Inn for a change. This was totally last minute arriving just before service started and incredibly luckily for us they had just had a cancellation so the lovely two ladies behind the bar could fit us in! The staff are fabulous, very welcoming and friendly and the food was stunning, best gravy I have ever tasted and a plate absolutely bursting with perfectly cooked food! Wish we lived closer so we could come back sooner but we will be back I’m sure! Thank you all 😊

We stayed for 2 nights' bed and breakfast. We had bar snacks one evening and a full meal on the other. Lovely pub in a unique village. Very quiet and not on a through road. We booked a double room with a garden view and were given a very smart and comfortable room with an excellent en suite in one of the houses ("Showfield") in the village, a couple of hundred yards down the main road. Breakfast was excellent (full English was more than I could eat). Staff were very friendly and professional. Evening snack was welcome, with good real ale accompaniment. Full evening meal was well presented, and substantial quantities. (Lemon and stem ginger cheesecake was excellent, and enough for one between two.) A memorable stay. This pub is well situated for walks down into a quiet valley where there is a station for a steam railway with links to Whitby. Easy access by road to several places on the coast, or out onto the moors. Really enjoyed our stay.

Being on holiday in Levisham and have used the horseshoe pub on many occasions for food more recently sunday in the beer garden .my wife and I thought we would call at 6pm for food again in the beer garden with our little dog only to be told they can't serve food outside and had we booked a table inside which was a ridiculous Question when we'd asked to eat in the beer garden.how can a pub that serves food in the middle of summer not serve food in their beer garden we would have spent in excess of £50 .All I can say they aren't short of money. Apart from the disappointment of being refused the opportunity to give the Horseshoe some cash it was the patronising way the young Girl said sorry.......well I'm sorry that this establishment will get not another penny out of us.awfull customer relations.

If you wish to experience the very best in pub bed and breakfast then look no further than The Horseshoe Inn. We have visited the York Moors for over 40 years and have stayed in a privately owned self catering cottage in the village 30 years ago so know the area around Levisham very well. It is a perfect area for walking, catching the steam train from Levisham station or simply relaxing and taking in the breathtaking views over Levisham Moor. Not only is the location superb but the pub and associated accommodation is top notch. Unfortunately we could only fit in the one night but from this experience we will certainly be returning for longer. There is ample parking to the rear of the pub. Our room was located above the pub with a view straight over the green and down the high street of this beautiful village. The room was immaculate and beautifully presented. The loo and shower, though small was pristine. Not something you can often say about hotel accommodation! The bed mattress and pillows were the most comfortable we have slept in which is a real bonus after a tiring day out. You will sleep well given the total peace and quiet of the village. Very little noise from the pub/restaurant below and silence after closing time. Our evening meal was excellent with a good choice from the menu as well as the daily specials. Breakfast was again one of the best we have enjoyed. There is a good selection of beers to be enjoyed and would recommend the Timothy Taylor’s. All the staff were very professional and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble, whether it was an alternative pillow/towels or filling your walking flask with iced water. Lovely people. The building looks as if it has recently been altered and refurbished with additional accommodation to the rear, yet it still maintains that welcoming English pub style and feel. The pub also boasts other accommodation close by in the village which is available for booking. So all in all a lovely experience and congratulations to everyone involved in its running. You couldn’t have made our stay any more enjoyable.

I recently visited the Horseshoe Inn with my family on a soggy Saturday lunchtime. The pub is so warm and inviting and decorated really nicely. The warmth of the roaring fire really hits as you enter the pub and was greatly appricated. We were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to an available table and promptly ask us what drinks we would like. There was a good selection of home cooked meals to choose from. I went for the steak baguette which was so yummy and fish and chips was chosen by my partner which was great. We also chose the kiddies fish and chips for our 1 year old who absolutely demolished it! One thing I really appricated was when the waiting staff brought over the kids meal they gave it to me, so many times I have been out for a meal and staff bring out hot food for kids and just plonk it right in front of them!! We had to sample their deserts too, the chocolate torte and orange crème brûlée, both were amazing!! We will definitely be back again..... maybe next time we will even stay over!!

The Horseshoe at Levisham is one of those pubs that's out of the way, but also one where you get rewarded with a great experience. There's an array of main meals and light bites at lunchtime and even though I was sorely tempted to try the Turkey with Yorkshire Pudding and all the trimmings, I decided to go for the Rare Beef and Horseradish sandwich with Chips. The beef was nice and tender whilst the horseradish managed to avoid that cardinal sin of being so strong that it overpowered the beef. The chips that accompanied them were nicely prepared with a nice salty taste. There's a small selection of real ales available and the one I chose matched my meal perfectly. The service was friendly right from the outset and nothing was too much trouble.Another big box that was ticked for us was that The Horseshoe is dog friendly with us being placed in an area where our dog wasn't disturbed too much.Given The Horseshoe's location, it got very busy during the lunchtime we were there, so if you're considering making a trip specifically to dine there, it would be prudent to book ahead.A real treat for lunchtime... Still wish that I'd gone for the Turkey and Yorkshire Pudding, though.

First night we had fish and chips (haddock of course) which was great then the next night I had salmon which was the best salmon I have ever had - lovely and thick, crispy skin on a bed of vegetables with a lovely sauce and husband had the steak which he raved about. We drank far too much wine (good wine list) and didn't have a pudding as we were too stuffed even after walking 10 miles. Sadly, due to Covid and various restrictions, we never actually got to visit Charlie and Faye at the Horseshoe Inn, however I have been moved to write a glowing review based on their remote customer service alone. They helped us with a large and complicated family booking, then when Covid hit, helped us rearrange it, and finally when ongoing restrictions ruined our revised plans, helped us organise a convoluted refund. Throughout, Charlie and Faye were wonderful - friendly, accommodating, professional and so so helpful. If their remote customer service is anything to go by, you're in safe hands! Our son along with his wife and two children stayed in the Showfield Apartment and were really impressed with the layout and the way it was decorated, especially the oak wood panelling in the lounge. As always the meals are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble for the kitchen staff, there is a very good choice of meals and always some specials which change regularly. We were staying in whit week when the weather was great which meant that there were lots of visitors sitting outside on the green enjoying a drink and dining was well spaced out meaning we felt quite safe.Well done to Charlie and all the staff, we will definitely be returning.

We very much enjoyed the friendly, warm hospitality of The Horseshoe when we stayed recently. The weather was cold and windy, but the warmth in the bar invited us and our dachshund out of the cold. Three different cask ales and a great selection of gins also helped with the warm up!The most difficult part of our stay was deciding what to choose from the menu for dinner. Excellent range of dishes, and we went for we settled on a special of deep friend haggis with a whisky marmalade and a crab and crab terrine, followed by steak and Black Sheep ale pie and mushroom stroganoff. Hearty food served with a delicate touch, and absolutely delicious. The pub has a lovely, welcoming warmth that is only partially generated by the log fire; we received excellent service from the whole team, and we're really looking forward to enjoying their hospitality again as soon as practical in 2021.

We found the pub whilst on a long walk and it was just fabulous - just what we needed - we only had sandwiches and some garlic mushrooms (they were just wonderful) and we tried to book for dinner as it was so good but unfortunately it was full. But certainly somewhere I wouldn't hesitate to go back to. Much better than their sister pub the Fox and Rabbit. Great service too. Hope to go back for dinner one day in the future.

We called today for a sandwich at lunchtime, what a great pub , considering how of the beaten track it is, we were amazed how busy it was. The rare beef sandwich gets 10/10 lean and tender on fabulously fresh bread, served with a nice side salad and very yummy chips . Eating out at the present time can be quiet testing, but we felt they complied with all the covid requirements, yet still managed to maintain a nice relaxed atmosphere, such a change from a lot of places relying too hard ! What more our dogs were mad very welcome. Well done, to you all at the Horseshoe, we will return.

Called in here on Friday lunchtime after the Hole of Horcum walk. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, all wearing face coverings. The tables are laid out to enable social distancing and we felt completely safe and comfortable at all times. It would be criminal for establishments like this one who are pulling out all the stops to be forced to close!!!! The service was excellent and the food delicious. Would not hesitate to recommend it

Wow! What a delightful pub this is! Called in for a snack on a Sunday - didn't have a Sunday lunch because we would be eating a three-course meal later in the evening. However, the Sunday lunch looked extremely delicious. I decided on one of the starters - mini toad-in-the-hole. Two sausages in a small Yorkshire pudding and smothered in gravy, whilst my wife enjoyed a bowl of this tomato and red pepper soup with croutons and a lovely soft bread roll. Well, let me tell you about the Toad in the hole - Lord! It was absolutely divine. Extremely tasty sausages accompanied by THE most tasty onion gravy known to Man!!!! Did I enjoy that!! It was outstanding. My wife, meanwhile, thoroughly enjoyed her soup. With gentle persuasion, I managed to secure half of her bread to mop up the extremely flavorsome gravy, which would have been a travesty had I left it!! Now, the done thing is to make a return visit to sample the Sunday lunch . . . . . . . . . and maybe another toad-in-the-hole!!

My husband and I visited the Horseshoe for the first time last Sunday. We went with our daughter who had been before and told us it was her favourite pub .We had a brilliant meal which we all really enjoyed. My husband had his favourite roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, our daughter had the Nut roast and I had the Belly pork on a potato and thyme mash. All our meals were excellent, with the vegetables cooked to perfection. Unfortunately we were too full to have a sweet! The landlord and staff were all very friendly and welcoming.

We wanted to do a walk and found ourselves literally at the end of the road in Levisham, with no through roads anywhere. The walk was fantastic but the only pub in the village even more so. Parking is very limited and the pub wasn’t open so I made a quick call to ask if we could park in their car park as we would be having a couple of drinks afterwards, it wasn’t a problem. Walk finished we settled down on one of the lovely benches outside. The sun was shining, our legs were aching and we could have stayed all afternoon (although they do have rooms so that could have been an option). The road is steep and winding to get to the pub, however, everything is worth it when you do.

We called here for a bite of lunch on our way to Pickering. We managed to get an outdoor table on the green and enjoyed good quality food, served quickly and efficiently by nice staff. A lovely quiet spot to relax with a lunchtime pint of Black Sheep. Highly recommended.

Disappointing food and not so great on Covid precautions either.Sunday lunch. The lamb shank was good but the two people who had the roast beef found it very bland. Puddings not very exciting either. Friendly manager kindly moved us when we felt insecure about how close we were to the next table - one of our party was back to back with someone on that table. No one-way system. Few were paying attention to the signs asking them to stay behind the tape around the bar area, and they were even leaning on the bar. Every other pub we’ve been in, you haven’t been allowed up to the bar at all and it has been table service either.

We went here on recommendation and we weren't disappointed. What a place. In a fabulous little village and in the middle of nowhere. We booked but had to eat early (6pm) due to them being so booked up. Nice warm and cosy pub with a very traditional feel. We had steak and it was cooked beautifully. Good choice of real ales and in good order too. If you eat here then book otherwise you may not get in. Take the sat nav. You will need it to find the place and the views on the way are fabulous

Decent pubs that profess to be nothing more, nothing less, are not that easy to find these days. This one fits the bill. If you regard the Good Pub Guide as a bit of a beer bible you'll probably know this place has featured for many years, and with good reason.Fantastic location for walking, big beer garden, really friendly staff, lovely food, massive portions, decent prices, dog friendly. What's not to like?I over ordered mind. Black pudding and bacon starter followed by an amazing pie and chips. I say 'pie' - it was a bowl of rich and delicious beef stew (probably cooked in ale) with a crumbly and perfectly cooked shortcrust pastry lid. I debated with the owner whether or not that constituted a pie; in my mind, you need sides and a bottom as well. He convinced me to try it anyway. Good lad, he was spot on, it was lovely. I wouldn't call it gastro pub food, but tbh, that is an over-used term these days. Wife had fish and chips. She always has fish and chips. We'll be back.

Visited this pub after a walk. Told by member of staff to order hot food in next 3 minutes, so we went straight to bar to order. Bar lady told us we couldn’t order hot food now as they stop at 2pm (it was just before 2pm). We asked where we could get hot food locally and she told us that the sister pub, the fox and rabbit, serve hot food until 4pm. We drove to the fox and rabbit immediately to be told they have also stopped hot food at 2pm. Not impressed!

As they say in Yorkshire, it’s a bit of an allack to get to The Horseshoe Inn but worth the drive for their outstanding Sunday Lunch. Huge portions, excellent tasting starters and outstanding traditional sirloin beef with Yorkshire puddings. I couldn’t find room for pudding which I’m sure was my loss. The local beer was exceptional and I had to sample it twice! Lovely friendly staff.

It’s 8 months since we last stayed and ate here. It was excellent then and we were not disappointed this time either. Still great friendly welcoming service, astounding food with vast portions and very cosy, comfortable, quiet accommodation. Last time we had room 4 which was fairly spacious though with a tiny ensuite. In comparison room 1 had a much better en-suite but the room was a bit cramped! However it was very clean with lots of toiletries, tea/coffee, etc. The accommodation deals on offer here combined with the glorious location make this a fabulous place to stay and we shall certainly return again.

Christ what a dump. Dingy. Nice if you’re into sky sports. Thought we would try an alternative to the George and dragon and tempted by the beer garden (very nice and with great potential in summer) so tried a pint of bitter. Now I see why everyone was drinking lager. In Yorkshire ffs! One swallow to see how nice it was. Another to see it was really as bad as the first. No 3rd swig. Vinegar. Clueless cellar management. Taste what you’re serving. Wouldn’t put it on chips. The rest went down a convenient geranium pot. Hope it survives. Vile. Not into confrontation so just left and went to the George and dragon for a delicious pint or 2 of theakston’s best. Avoiding the black swan where someone with TB was coughing his guts up in the smoking area. Avoid both would be my shout.

Visited with family. There’s a really nice feel to the place. We arrived early for dinner and spent some time in the bar (with wood burner) then ate went in the dining room which has a lovely view of the valley. We chose snacks and starters, as the menu looked so good. Snacks were gougeres (perfect), an aranicino with nduja mayo (freshly made) and Yorkshire Rarebit, this being enormous. We had two starters - monkfish “scampi” and a magnificent and imaginative venison faggot dish. Our mains were: chicken burger and fries for our daughter; Toulouse sausages with puy lentils and celeriac remoulade; and partridge with cabbage etc. The sausages were spiced with nutmeg etc and tasted light not heavy. For the first time in a very, very long time we were defeated by the portion sizes and couldn’t manage a pudding. I’ve seen a review suggesting the portions were on the small side - all I can say is that this absolutely definitely wasn’t the case with us. We loved the food; clearly a chef thinking seasonal and local. Excellent all round and I had to look twice when I got the bill - £113 for 3 or about £37 per head. Unbelievable value for money, particularly for food of this quality.
