Service was impeccable, about 4 different young lads serving, all trained to an excellent standard. Food was delicious; falafel burger and triple cooked chips, fish & chips for my daughter. The owner checked in with us and chatted with the locals, lovely vibe here and would definitely recommend 👌

First time visiting Malton and was extremely disappointed that we had to have plastic glasses as we were not locals. Apparently glasses are only for locals even though they charged us over four pounds per pint. Ever other pub in Malton was cheaper. The staff were a lot more friendly and made us feel welcome. Never been made to feel more welcome in a local pub. Everyone was friendly. We arrived wanting to watch the F1 on Sky sports and was swiftly accommodated. The toilets were clean and products were left available for use by patrons, which was a really kind touch. The pub is 100% dog friendly and our pooch was greeted with snacks and a toy and told he had free reign as the beer garden and pub were secure. If you are in Malton and want to pub into a regular pub with excellent service, I recommend the Royal Oak wholeheartedly.

Nice little pub, drawn in by the “free pool” sign in the window, who can pass up on that? Pool table is SPOTLESS, it’s either brand new or very well looked after. Cloth is perfect, even the cues and chalk are flawless, very rare for a pub. Also have two dart boards with the correct oche spacing, they clearly take their pub games seriously, I wish more would! Good Guinness, props to the barmaid because she even poured a two part pour. Good selection of gins the other half said.

Had a last minute night out in Malton with a friend. Found the Royal Oak through Google and both staff and regulars were very friendly, good range of beers and reasonable prices for the area. Pub is perfectly placed from shops and local takeaways with a very nice pizza house just across from it. Was recommended the Union by the pub landlord who owns both. One of the best nights out that I’ve had in a long while in the Union. Some very good local singers and I left having made friends there. Will definitely be returning. Thanks :)

We visited here for lunch to catch up with family who Live in Malton ,he did say that he hasn’t eaten here since new ownership so what follows is not his fault in any way , at 11.55 we rang the doorbell as requested a guy opened the door and said to give him 5 minutes they were still setting up ? Firstly should this not have been prepared previously ? So to the food !!!! We were with a 9 year old and 5 year old who had the children’s menu , I ordered the smaller size portion of scampi which was £7.95 it came with 4 yes 4 pieces of scampi ( which we all know take no preparation) peas and a few anemic looking chips ! My partner ordered the salmon salad £12.95 for this you would have expected a fair size salmon portion , trust me it was the thinnest sliver of salmon ( you get 2 this size at supermarkets for £2.99 ) the dish was served in a small soup bowl so you can imagine portion size ! The salad was mostly potatoes ! My friend had chicken salad again it was I would say a half portion of chicken cubed n fried, salad the same minuscule size , our cousin had the fish n chips which was ok size wise , when we questioned was this a starter portion we were told no ! Our cousin said his piece about charging extortionate prices for that size meal , he got a reply if well we get oaps in here that are totally satisfied ! Errrm we aren’t oaps and we’ve ordered from a main menu not oap one !!!! Nevertheless we shall never return as this is terrible portion size for what they are charging ! He did knock the salads off the final bill but we would have gladly payed full price for decent portion sized food , avoid if you’re hungry or expect decent size for you’re money , we’ve ate at coach and horses rillington yesterday and they can teach them a thing or two about great food and proper home cooked fayre decent prices and amazingly presented and tasty food , also we ate at Dawnay arms which would also take some beating . I don’t like writing bad reviews ever but don’t like being fleeced either !

The Royal Oak has to be the friendliest pubs in Malton now - the new management out their heart and soul into creating a very welcoming atmosphere. They are trying hard to build up a good weekend live music scene, and from what I have witnessed are succeeding. The choice of beer and spirits as great, and we LOVE the outdoor beer garden round the back. Their pool table is first rate and always a joy to play, whether is be to take a break (!) from the frequent visits to Malton's many food markets, or just to get out of the rain. Highly recommended!!!

The Royal Oak is an ordinary pub, and in these days of themed pubs, cafe-bars, sterile micro breweries and the like, I mean that as a huge compliment. The decor is typical town centre pub with a mish-mash of chairs, stools etc., with the expected pool table and television. Most importantly however, there is a very good selection of well-kept beers served by an absolutely charming lady behind the bar. Quite simply, this is a nice, ordinary, friendly pub. What more could you possibly want?

We visited here to watch a rugby match on sky sports on a weekend. I was quiet happy that we had a whole corner of the bar as it was quite quiet. The baby changing area was in the ladies toilets and I found these quite spacious too. Prices of drinks were reasonable but my family had said the level of hygiene was not clean enough for us to eat there. I think in old pubs with carpets there is a damp smell which couldn't really be helped without a refurb of everything.

Order for food took ages to be served at the bar then took 40 mins for 2 x chesse and tomato panini to come. Chips for myself a little greasey, panini not fully cooked through. Apologies were made for long wait as they were "extremely busy" I notice they are advertising for kitchen staff so perhaps this has had a knock on effect on speed of service. Filled a hole.

After going to Malton from Scarborough, my friend & I walked around Malton looking for a place to eat for lunch, where we wanted a prawn sandwich with Marie Rose sauce, but every café seemed to put mayonnaise with the prawns, which we don't like. When we saw the menu outside of the Royal Oak stating they did Marie Rose sauce with the prawn sandwich, we went inside. Although it was a bit dark inside, it was quite welcoming. The young lady behind the bar was very friendly and we placed our order. When it came I was a bit surprised as not only was there salad garnish and coleslaw with the sandwich, but chips on the plate as well. I said I didn't order them, but she said they came with order (it didn't say), but they were delicious! Home made and nicely browned. We sat quite close to the open fire for a warm - at the next table were two Mums and 4 children - quickly served which reduced the noise levels considerably! Our food arrived quickly and was tasty and hot. A generous side salad accompanied each dish. Good choice of beers on draught - my Bombadier was good. Unusually, payment was not wanted until we had finished - that doesn't happen much these days in pubs at least. On warmer days there is a garden out the back. There are TV screens but where we sat they were not intrusive

Just spent three nights at this beautiful Inn, staying in one of the garden rooms. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and fully equipped. There was a good choice of breakfast options, with locally-sourced food being cooked to order. The atmosphere in the bar in the evening was lovely, with a log fire and fabulous food. Levisham is a quiet village (one road in) that is located in beautiful countryside - the perfect location to 'get away from it all'. We will certainly be re-booking at the Horseshoe Inn.
