Very nice a bit expensive but worth it

Fantastic place on the fringe of the north York moors this bakery never disappoints - the custard slices are genius, the onion and garlic bread is out of this world, Definitely recommend!

Lovely cakes, got there 10 minutes before closing but still good variety. Will be visiting next time we are in the area.

Amazing bakery! So much selection and all beautiful! The focaccia and quiche was amazing and the Semla bun was fantastic! Can't wait to come back again. Had a lovely walk and paddle and the kids played in the park. Perfect day for everyone :)

Little Gem of a bakery. Absolutely lovley

Good bakery, poor/ rude service from 1 staff member. Popped in on Christmas eve-eve on the last day they were open for a couple of bits to take away. Girl behind the bakery counter was very abrupt and cut the meanest little sliver of yule log I've ever seen. When I politely pointed out that some of it was missing due to being cut from an angle-end piece she said very blunty she had "made it bigger" to compensate (?!?).The other staff member realised the error and gave me some more. What I don't understand is what they were saving if for if they were about to close for the next few days...? Won't be back. That lass needs a lesson in hospitality and talking to customers. It had been in the fridge display so long the cream had got solid and the cake wet on the sticky toffee apple slice.

We needed a quick coffee shop stop and noticed a place selling drinks. To our surprise we found a charming little bakery next to a picturesque stream in a gorgeous little town. Inside, the rather small bakery is utterly delightful. They do fresh pastries and desserts which all looked mouth-wateringly tempting. My wife and I went for a scone (which she said was lovely) and I went for a meat pastie. It was barely warm as it had been there for a while but that was expected and fine by me. Well. It was delicious, quite simply. The service was superb - although they didn't have any coffee syrups, the coffees were nice and barista'd right in front of us. All in all a splendid little find. Recommended for a quick coffee stop and clearly freshly baked snack, but I'm sure for the locals, their produce looked absolutely delicious.

Fantastic local bakery, the best sausage butty I have ever had!! Also great fresh ready meals, delicious cakes, fab croissants and french bread on a weekend, it doesn't get any better than this. :)

Lovely little bakery with food & drinks made to order which means a short wait but we'll worth it!! Lovely latte & exceptional bacon & sausage sandwich. My son had a plain ham but there was plenty of ham in it. Really pleasant staff who were patient with a very indecisive son. Keep up the good work

Excellent little bakery with a great cafe attached. The cakes are delicious (I have a particular soft spot for the passion fruit cheesecake it's delicious!)

Village Bakery with Swedish options. I go to buy spelt bread which is light and delicious. Unlike the spelt bread I make at home! I also had a steak bake which was 10 out of 10.

Fabulous little village bakery! Very tasty sandwiches, plenty of filling and the bread is gorgeous! Always a must to stop when we are passing by.

Great bakery, not really any vegan options per se but happily accommodated me with a delicious mushroom and onion sandwich

My friend could remember visiting here many years ago, when there was an indoor tea room, and said that the food had been really good so we decided to stop for a drink and a bite to eat. We both had a warm pasty and hot drink, for around £7, which was superb value. The pasties were filling, scrumptious and totally moreish. The bakery is only takeaway now so we sat outside on some seating in the sunshine, even though it was slightly chilly, before having a stroll around this delightful village. There’s a small brook, with a ford, running through the village and some artists were set up on their easels painting the picturesque landscape. Judging by the parked cars and people queuing, this is a popular bakery and, with the wonderful bread, cakes and pastries, it’s easy to see why. We'll definitely visit again when we're in the area.

Wonderful bakery in a beautiful village. Just doing take away when I visited. Cafe appeared to be out of use I guess because of covid. Lots of benches outside to sit and eat the delicious baked goods. Highly recommended.

Oh my goodness! It's really difficult to get fresh, crunchy, French baguettes in Britain. But here we came really close, with beautiful, warm filled baguettes. We had one with bacon, camembert and (naturally for Sweden) lingon Berry and another with mozzarella, tomato and pesto. We followed this with a delicious cinnamon bun and a Proper egg custard slice. And finally a decent coffee to go. Sorry, no photos. But absolutely gorgeous food!

Due to a diversion as a result of road construction we passed through Hovingham by chance and what a lucky diversion it turned out to be. We both had an egg and bacon sandwich and couldn't have been happier with the quality. The owner was very friendly and our food was prepared quickly. Only regret is not buying some of the fresh bread and other baked goods that were on offer. Everything available looked amazing. Will be stopping in again the next time we're in the UK and would recommend it to anyone who may be in the area.

Travelling from northumberland to flamingoland and as we drove past the bakery we decided to u turn and feed our hungry tummys and we wernt disappointed the bacon and sausage rolls were out of this world the bread rolls are one of the best i have ever tasted chewy yet soft and left a beautiful flavour. The variety inside looked delicious and we should have got hot drinks but we decided not too. Service was with a smile the lady serving us was very patient with our very hungry boys. Also while we were there she greeted the customers in a polite and pleasant manner. If you ever happen to be passing do call in you really wont be dissapointed

Called as we were passing through and bought a sausage sandwich, for the price of them the breadcakes should be twice the size, wont be calling again.

We stopped here on the way to Nunnington, having called in on many occasions over the last 20 years. The bakery was still going, but cafe food and drink was served from the front door and a kiosk to its left. In other words, the usual tea room was shut. Nothing wrong with the coffee, and the raspberry and pear slice was delicious, which we ate outside on the picnic tables by the stream. However upon enquiry we were told that the tea room cafe would not be reopening. This is a great shame. It also deprives visitors of the toilet. There is another cafe in Hovingham, the Park, which I expect we wil try next time.

We were pleased to see the bakery was open and not too busy on our trip to Helmsley. Purchased a garlic, cheese and tomato bread. Absolutely beautiful.

Visited a friend who owns Hovingham Bakery, the fresh baked food was delicious, if you haven't been, go.

This is an extraordinary Bakers and Café in the beautiful village of Hovingham. It is very popular and rightly so, do be prepared for queues. The array of different bread and rolls is astonishing take your pick from spelt, wild garlic and cheese plus red onion and feta focaccia to name but a few. There are buns, cakes and scones too. We took away some delightful slices of quiche one was broccoli and the other was tomato and wild garlic as well as some lovely rolls and a cherry scone and a fruit scone all yummy! This is a must visit place when in the area who would have thought such an outstanding Bakers could be found in a small village in the Howardian Hills. Well done to the Owners for what they are achieving and long may they continue.

Visited here on Sunday and was highly impressed and am not surprised by how busy it was. A wide selection of items, all of which were so tasty from those bought from my wife's coffee to the cheese scones and the onion bread roll. The highlight was the wholemeal spelt loaf that was devoured quickly once I got home. Would highly recommend a visit to here.

Superb bakery, in the picturesque village of Hovingham, which has become a regular place to visit. Excellent bacon sandwich, coffee, and always a great selection of bread and pastries. I bought cheese, herb, and onion bread on my last visit and it was very tasty indeed!

If you are ever in the area surrounding Hovingham in North Yorkshire, you MUST take a detour to Hovingham and be sure to stop off at the bakery! EVERYTHING on offer is worthy of a purchase BUT if you are gluten free like myself, the GF Brownies are divine! My sister also recommends the Swedish Cinnamon Buns, the sour dough bread and the rye bread. Everything is made on site, the staff are warm and welcoming, particularly Victoria, the lovely Swedish lady who runs the bakery with her partner Simon. Go and check out this little gem!

Disappointing, ordered a bacon, sausage and egg bap which was great, the BLT baguette was that hard my Mrs couldn't eat it.

As regular visitors to the area, this is our go to bakery. Always manage to buy more than we intended - so many varied and delicious treats. Bacon rolls are wonderful and a meal in themselves - cakes are fantastic the wild garlic and tomato...

The title says it all, as does the previous reviewer of the cheesy bread. The most important thing about Hovingham bakery however, is the way that every member of staff treats us, the customers, as a very valuable asset to have. I visit every Sunday...

The Baker here actually does the baking on site. These foods items are priceless because they really are created and cooked fresh here and they are beyond yummy!! I shouldn't say this or I will never get in but the food here is absolutely delicious. Steak bakes, bread, cakes, all really lovely. Fairly priced. Well worth a stop and the coffee is also great. I haven't tried the tea. Beautiful area for a walk or a cycle. Great cafe and bakers shop.

We stopped for lunch to take with us on a walk around the area. Couldn't go in the cafe but there is a decent amount of seating outside nearby, and orders were being taken quickly in the doorway of the cafe. The range of takeaway...

We were unable to use the cafe. Called on a Sunday and bought cinnamon rolls and a sourdough loaf. The bread tasted how good bread should, light, tasty and with a beautiful open texture. The cinnamon rolls were delicious and I wish I'd bought more....

We were staying in Hovingham and visited every day to stock up on delicious goodies for a picnic lunch. Fantastic strawberry brioches and mini quiches - so good we brought some home with us. Friendly service and popular with the friendly locals too.

Fabulous bread and pastries. The wholemeal sourdough is scrumptious. Due to the Covid restrictions you are served at the door rather than entering the shop.

I know that the business is constrained by being in small premises but felt better (and more) seating could have been provided by using smaller square tables rather than round ones. All the tables could seat 4 but were mostly being taken up by 2 people. My local cheese and chutney sandwich was served in a wholemeal bun, which was cold and dry (probably had been refrigerated) but the other ingredients were delicious.

Brilliant establishment, all bakes are the best i have ever tasted, we stayed in the area for a week and sampled the delights on a daily basis , cafe first class, poached eggs on toast to die for. Croissants unbelievable , cakes superb, cheese and onion bread just out of this world . love it love it .

Great value for money. They actually can serve a Green Tea without silly flavours. Their coffee is seriously good quality. And to get perfect poached eggs on warm thick cut homemade butter soaked bread. The inner man is well satisfied.

Very poor, I ordered 2 x cappuccino and 1 x scone, waited some 20 minutes coffee arrived no scone though, I waited another 15 minutes no scone, I was told it was on its way, people who ordered 10 minutes after me, received there tea and scones before I, in the end had drunk the coffee and ended up asking for scone to take out, no refund for taking out, very poor service and totally no customer service.

On route from Malton to Helmsley , we passed through Hoveringham and stopped at the Hoveringham bakery and Rolling Pin Cafe. had pot of tea for two and cheese scones each mine with cram cheese and my wife's with butter, nice clean and tidy place service excellent, the scones were freshly baked to order delicious, thank we will call again.

I gave this cafe a very poor review back in 2017 when we had a spoiled lunch. I visited again this week and the difference was astounding.Service good, fayre excellent and overall a massive turn around.

Called here on our trip up north. The smells when we walked in were absolutely gorgeous. Lovely choice of pastries/scones and pies. Very fresh. Great pot of tea too, even got a hot water pot to rip up tea Very friendly staff. Idyllic setting.

Fantastic food and deserts beautiful village too

We have been through Hovingham several times and stopped off occasionally at The Bakery. Today was a lovely sunny day, we had already visited Hovingham Hall. It called for ice cream. It was lovely to just sit and watch the children paddling and playing in the nearby stream. There was a good range of savouries and cakes. Alright, we were tempted and did buy cakes. The staff were friendly and obliging and we have no reason to not return.

Lovely cafe with a great atmospheric location

We were recommended the bakery by a neighbour in Fife, Scotland. We had the chocolate brownie which may well be the best ever. We will be back if not this trip, then next time. Very nice couple run it too lovely to sit outside next to the ford, which we don't really get in Fife, looking at a picture postcard village.

Stopped for a lunch-time snack. Service at the bakery shop counter was quick and our two 'doorstep sandwiches' arrived promptly - delivered with a smile. The 'doorsteps' comprise two thick slices (half-inch or 10mm each!) of home baked bread with your choice of filling. Both were delicious.

We’ve visited here on a number of occasions whilst staying in the area. You will always be able to find some lovely home made treats to a very high standard. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed inside but there is outside seating, not great in the bad weather though. The main disappointment for us was the staff. They seemed to lack knowledge, motivation and common sense which didn’t give us very much faith. Hopefully next time there will be some improvement in this area.

Called in on spec and found the hosts polite, attentive and friendly. The tea was excellent and there was a nice range of home made cakes and scones. A pleasant diversion which ticked our boxes.

It was very nice to find this cafe open on Sunday (the other one in Hovingham was shut) as we passed by after visiting Sledmere. Hovingham is a pretty place to poke around, and the bakery seemed busy with visitors - the cafe next door was quieter, but we were well looked after and enjoyed cinnamon toast and a very nice cup of tea in the little dining room. It's also got a nicely kept loo. We did a takeaway on a couple of Swedish buns which were also v good.

Great to find a cafe open in winter on our cycle routes. Small menu but nice food. Scones are very tasty. It's a regular stopping point on our cycle routes. Nice to sit outside in summer.

Late lunch for 7 yesterday... and what a treat for the taste buds! Children and adults all very happy with their choices, ranging from perfectly poached eggs on toast to a divine Swedish Celebration cake (savoury) and creamy, smooth celeriac soup. Quiches of the day both looked fab, I opted for the Leek and Wensleydale and was not disappointed. Interesting salad accompaniment, which was quickly polished off. No limp lettuce here!!

Stopped in this very attractive North Yorkshire village for lunch. Coffee was excellent. My ham sandwich was generous and came in beautifully baked light wholemeal roll. Served with Danish influenced salad- cracked wheat, butternut squash, sweet potato and dressing which had plenty of flavour. My partner had two perfectly poached eggs on very generous slices of toast.

We arrived on a lovely sunny October day and wanted to enjoy the good weather. As the outside seating was full, we bought takeaway food and found a bench nearby. We shared a delicious foccacia with cheese, artichoke and caramelised onion - so good! Then a slice of the best custard tart I've had in a long time. Crisp pastry, creamy filling. We liked the food so much we went back to buy swedish buns for breakfast next day, and custard tart to take home. We thought prices were extremely reasonable for the quality and portion size of the food we had.

What a truly wonderful working Bakery and Tea Rooms in the Glorious Village of Hovingham! The Couple who run it are truly Professional and very kind and Friendly. They deserve awards and many accolades for their wonderful busy business! We shall return xx

Hello. Whilst travelling through Hovingham on a lovely sunny day we came across this Bakery/Tearoom. It has both inside and outside seating areas and waitress service. We enjoyed a delicious cup of coffee outside in a beautiful setting. Toilet facilities available. Great choice of bread and cakes from the Bakery. We can thoroughly recommend and we will return!

Can't say enough.. Just wonderfully bread and pastries. Also the two fish pies we bought were so nice. Well worth a visit!

We found the bakery/cafe after a country ramble of some 7.5 k and enjoyed a very nice coffee as well as a delicious fruit scone with jam in the autumn sunshine.

Stopped for breakfast. Had nice local feel. My poached eggs on fresh bread were really good. My husband enjoyed his full English but fried egg a bit over cooked. Got some stuff to take home, feel that the bread in bakery is better than cakes.
