I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, and I do mean a while, as me and my partner have been visiting this bakery for years having been living not too far away since 2019. This is a sensational bakery! Victoria and her lovely family and team are so wonderful, caring and bloody good at what they do. And I say all of this as someone who has to eat gluten free (coeliac). They have so many options for gluten-free desserts, not just the usual brownie(!), and they do change from time to time which keeps things exciting. I always have their infamous Hovingham BLT baguette which in lieu of the baguette they use their own baked gluten free loaf cut along the long side so still a good sized sandwich - perfect for breakfast or after completing a walk nearby. That’s just the gluten free side of things, beyond that they have many different loaves of bread; scones; sausage rolls and even more desserts! All to be enjoyed with a great hot drink too and if the weather is nice sat outside on the benches nearby. There is a reason why I frequently travel on a weekend morning to this brilliant bakery - sometimes on both days! - and that’s because it is consistently delicious with a fantastic atmosphere and team, all with a Swedish touch! If you’re doing a walk nearby; staying nearby for a few days or simply passing through then you absolutely need to stop here for a bite to eat and/or a drink. Big thanks to the HB Team for all the amazing food and coffees over the years!

Excellent bakery. Stumbled across by chance and enjoyed not only delicious sandwiches and coffee on the picnic table outside, but the two slices of quiche we ate for tea later were well-made with tasty veggie fillings. The seeded spelt loaf was perfect - moist texture and not oversalted. Yet to try the fruit scone and sourdough loaf. Yes, we went a little mad in the shop, but it was a place you don't come across every day. There should be more shops like this! Thank you to all who work there.

Stumbled upon on our first trip through the village. Aren't we glad...amazing cakes! Thus we make sure to go via here en route to other places if possible, or when we're in the area to detour. Nice selection...tough choice to decide. Yet to try any of the sandwiches...next time Double check opening so you're not disappointed, as believe closed at the start of the week. This has caught us out once or twice so now check to plan our journey around this. But understandably no one can work 7 days a week, everyone deserves a rest. Please don't take me mentioning this as disapproving of the opening times, no way. Its been said so people aren't disappointed if visiting on those days! The village itself is quaint adding to our keenness to visit the bakery.

Good bakery, poor/ rude service from 1 staff member. Popped in on Christmas eve-eve on the last day they were open for a couple of bits to take away. Girl behind the bakery counter was very abrupt and cut the meanest little sliver of yule log I've ever seen. When I politely pointed out that some of it was missing due to being cut from an angle-end piece she said very blunty she had "made it bigger" to compensate (?!?).The other staff member realised the error and gave me some more. What I don't understand is what they were saving if for if they were about to close for the next few days...? Won't be back. That lass needs a lesson in hospitality and talking to customers. It had been in the fridge display so long the cream had got solid and the cake wet on the sticky toffee apple slice.

We needed a quick coffee shop stop and noticed a place selling drinks. To our surprise we found a charming little bakery next to a picturesque stream in a gorgeous little town. Inside, the rather small bakery is utterly delightful. They do fresh pastries and desserts which all looked mouth-wateringly tempting. My wife and I went for a scone (which she said was lovely) and I went for a meat pastie. It was barely warm as it had been there for a while but that was expected and fine by me. Well. It was delicious, quite simply. The service was superb - although they didn't have any coffee syrups, the coffees were nice and barista'd right in front of us. All in all a splendid little find. Recommended for a quick coffee stop and clearly freshly baked snack, but I'm sure for the locals, their produce looked absolutely delicious.

My friend could remember visiting here many years ago, when there was an indoor tea room, and said that the food had been really good so we decided to stop for a drink and a bite to eat. We both had a warm pasty and hot drink, for around £7, which was superb value. The pasties were filling, scrumptious and totally moreish. The bakery is only takeaway now so we sat outside on some seating in the sunshine, even though it was slightly chilly, before having a stroll around this delightful village. There’s a small brook, with a ford, running through the village and some artists were set up on their easels painting the picturesque landscape. Judging by the parked cars and people queuing, this is a popular bakery and, with the wonderful bread, cakes and pastries, it’s easy to see why. We'll definitely visit again when we're in the area.

Oh my goodness! It's really difficult to get fresh, crunchy, French baguettes in Britain. But here we came really close, with beautiful, warm filled baguettes. We had one with bacon, camembert and (naturally for Sweden) lingon Berry and another with mozzarella, tomato and pesto. We followed this with a delicious cinnamon bun and a Proper egg custard slice. And finally a decent coffee to go. Sorry, no photos. But absolutely gorgeous food!

We stopped here on the way to Nunnington, having called in on many occasions over the last 20 years. The bakery was still going, but cafe food and drink was served from the front door and a kiosk to its left. In other words, the usual tea room was shut. Nothing wrong with the coffee, and the raspberry and pear slice was delicious, which we ate outside on the picnic tables by the stream. However upon enquiry we were told that the tea room cafe would not be reopening. This is a great shame. It also deprives visitors of the toilet. There is another cafe in Hovingham, the Park, which I expect we wil try next time.

This is an extraordinary Bakers and Café in the beautiful village of Hovingham. It is very popular and rightly so, do be prepared for queues. The array of different bread and rolls is astonishing take your pick from spelt, wild garlic and cheese plus red onion and feta focaccia to name but a few. There are buns, cakes and scones too. We took away some delightful slices of quiche one was broccoli and the other was tomato and wild garlic as well as some lovely rolls and a cherry scone and a fruit scone all yummy! I can't praise this little deli enough. The 2 lads who were taking orders and serving where great. Very friendly and efficient. The lady in the kitchen cooking everything was also friendly and helpful as we needed the loo and dhe kindly let us use the staff toilet. I had eggs benedict with mushrooms £12.70 from the breakfast specials menu and was really tasty. My partner had a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich on seeded bread £8 and said that it was one of the best he's had. The shop itself sells all sorts of chutney's, relishes, quiche, pie's, colslaw, various sausage rolls, wine, beers and pre-made meals, cheeses, crisps and lots more. There's a few tables inside and also a few tables outside under a gazebo. I understand that there's an antique shop upstairs but I didn't visit so cannot comment.
