Went to Cooplands Secet Garden for lunch today. Did not feel social distancing was being adhered to. Had to wait ages for tables to be cleared by the two young staff, when they were cleared the food residue was not cleared from floor. Only one way in and out therefore people waiting had no where to move to to allow exiting customers to leave. I witnessed two female staff share the same face visor and a male member of staff put a glove on to take cash from a customer and then carried on serving with that glove on. Customers using same pen to write their contact details down and no wiping done before next use. We will not be returning.

Bright, clean and cheerful cafe occupying half of the bakery, run by very welcoming and efficient staff. Good range of fresh cakes add you'd expect, in addition to hot food, decent tea and several deals which make it more than affordable. Just a shame the sandwiches are made with thin shop sliced bread, then pre-cut, plated and clingfilm wrapped, rather than generous and freshly made.

Came in to Pickering on the train and came across cooplands. Greeted in the cafe by a very polite and cautious young man. A credit to the company. I ordered an all day breakfast and a tea. Tea was very good. Breakfast not so good. I nearly burst out laughing when i saw the size of the plate but to be honest i had eaten a few hours back in Whitby. My round of toast came prebuttered.....or was it butter ? The sausage were thin link and tasteless. Skin was so thick i worried about cutting through it with the blunt knife. The meal was fast food fryup. I've eaten in a lot of greasy spoons over the years and if i'd been served this would probably not comment. Whilst talking to a relative today about my weekend away, she mentioned a similar experience with the sausages and plate side. Come on Coopland you can do better !

A nice clean cafe on the market place. Friendly helpful staff. Went in for a catch up with a friend. The hot chocolate was nice. Tables cleared quickly. Whilst on a day out in Pickering on Monday 29/04/2018 my wife and I wanted a drink. We looked around and decided on Cooplands as we have been told by many people they are very good. We both had an excellent curd cheese cake. My wife had a coffee and I had a green tea. My wife was disappointed that the coffee was filtered and watery. We thought very expensive compared to the branded coffee chains. My green tea was ok but as with the coffee you only get a very small cup. Not what we expected and next time will stick with Costa Coffee as it is better coffee and better value for the money. The young lady who served us however was very pleasant and friendly and a credit to Cooplands.

We found this superb bakery last year whilst on holiday near Pickering and returned again several times whilst on holiday this year, for freshly made rolls to put in our backpacks for a picnic later. The bakery has a well deserved 5 star hygiene rating. There is a good choice of fillings to choose from and what we like in particular, is that the rolls are buttered before the filling goes in, just like you would do at home. Many places nowadays just put the filling straight in the dry rolls, which we dislike. The rolls come in two sizes, small or large. The large ones are round baps the size of a teaplate and the small ones (not so small!) are squarer, with a choice of white or wholemeal. The array of cakes is amazing and it really is hard which to choose which ones to have. The rolls are filled on a clean, dedicated work surface at the back of the serving area. Each roll is individually wrapped and placed into a paper bag, so no filling leaking out into your rucksack or bag. The cakes were put into a small cardboard box, again easy to carry. The service is quick, efficient and friendly. We didn't have need to use the cafe, so cannot comment on that, but can thoroughly recommend the filled rolls for walkers and anyone on holiday in the area who wants to take a packed lunch out with them.

Pickering offers many eateries - Cooplands caters at the budget end of the market. As part of a regional chain of bakers, many people know what to expect and at this branch I wasn't disappointed. Pastry based products, sweet products, bread products are the main staples on offer at good prices. Hot drinks are available, decent quality but this is no Starbucks if you like a good coffee. The staff were friendly and engaging. Service was good. The reason I haven't awarded top marks - they were out of many products that I wanted to buy with over 2 hours left of the day. Annoying for me perhaps but perhaps this suggests good service and quality.
