This place used to be amazing. Unfortunately it is now a run down poor excuse of its former self. We pulled into the car park almost sure that the restaurant had closed down. The place looked in a state of disrepair with paint falling of the walls and window frames. We were just about to leave when a member of staff came out and assured us they were open. Dubiously we went in, remembering how great it used to be. Inside, the decor was not much better, it was very tired, in need of some TLC and investment but as we were the only people in the place I guess that investment won't be coming any time soon as this place cannot possibly be trading very much longer unless it survives on take-away trade. Upon taking our drinks order, we were disappointed to be informed that they had no beer (draught or bottled) so had soft drinks. Unfortunately the disappointment didn't stop there as when our main courses came out, one was inedible and the other extremely salty to the point where it was only just edible. To be fair, the staff did offer to replace both of our meals, but we felt that the damage was done and just wanted to leave. I would strongly recommend you avoid this place, it is certainly not what it used to be. Such a huge shame.

Was staying nearby with some family so we thought we would give Jinnah a try. Restaurant didn't look open when we arrived and we appeared to be the only customers sitting in which was slightly off putting for me at first although a group arrived just before we left and I know there was a few take aways. Food was amazing but very spicy, even the dishes that usually aren't meant to be! Portion sized were very generous. I did expect tablecloth and chairs to be cleaner as it had not long been open for the evening. I would definitly go again but maybe ask for food not to be as spicy!

We have been here on a couple of occasions now and I cannot fault the place. The atmosphere, staff and food was all fantastic. The food is delicious and hoot. From ordering to eating was about 10-15 mins, better than so many places we’ve visited. If we were unsure of what we wanted, food was recommended and we were not disappointed. Cannot wait to visit again

We were staying in Welburn and as we had our dog with us needed to have a take-away rather than eat in a restaurant. We found Jinnah and saw that they'd deliver to the house so ordered dinner via Just Eat. It was one of the best take-away meals we've ever had. My husband ordered a specialty dish we'd never seen before and I had rogan josh, along with lemon rice and a garlic naan. It was all wonderful - delivered within the promised time slot, hot and generous portions. We both said we'd never had a better take-away curry. If we lived nearer we'd definitely be regular visitors.

Went to Jinnah for a nice Indian curry in which turned out to be very expensive for SOFT DRINKS, they made an error on one of the curries despite how quiet they were with only 3 tables being full in the premises and also false advertising. We went to enjoy a meal and noticed they were on Meerkat meals 2 for 1 but even though they're on Meerkat, they are not accepting Meerkats meals. The soft drinks, we got a pint of Coca Cola and a pint of Sprite which came to a toa of £9.90, £4.95 each for a soft drink which is extortion, we could have got a pint of beer/larger for much the same price! Ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala and it was a very mild curry and tasted more of coconut than anything, there was no spice to it and minimal flavour. The presentation was good for the food, the service was friendly and quick. Wouldn't recommend going here and I will not be returning. I would much rather get a takeaway from Naz Spice which is my local Indian takeaway.

My guest for this meal is in his own right is a highly successful chef and restauranteur so when he says that is the best curry he’s had for ages then I would also agree . Shukria

Had previously been a regular customer but things had gone down hill some time ago. Saw the sign saying 'under new management ' so thought we would give it another go. Wednesday evening - very quiet. Bar area was very cold. Only had Cobra beer in bottles & when someone wanted a non alcoholic beer, there was only one left. Food & service not particularly good - didn't have the ingredients to make one of the curries. As we left there were tables which had not been cleared. No atmosphere. Sorry but don't think we will be back.

Myself, my husband, brother and sister-in-law went away to a cottage not far from the Jinnah Restaurant and who delivered to the cottage, even though we were hidden away so we were quite pleased about that! The delivery did take a lot longer than expected, probably an hour longer as the driver ket getting lost due to where we were staying but it was within their delivery area so that was a downside straight away. Myself and my sister-in-law ordered the food via Just-Eat and I love Lamb Karahi which I ordered and I thought I had found the perfect meal - the only issue was that I had was that there was an option to choose what I thought was an extra for the dish so chose Vegetable. What happened was that the advertised Lamb Karahi wasn't Lamb at all, it was just Karahi and then I had to choose an extra - all I received was a vegetable Kahari and I was extremely gutted so would not eat it and it was too oily and spicy anyway. I telephoned the restaurant and the lady I spoke to was very rude and eventually put me onto the Manager. He actually looked at the Just-Eat page and realised the mistake, he offered to bring another meal for me but the others had only half finished their meal as the food was so spicy and oily, they could not finish it totally so it all went in the bin. I explained this to the Manager but he said that anything with a 'one chilli' next to a meal on the menu is what the locals like - 'one chilli' means mild to us from Manchester and most other people no doubt! Of course, the Just-Eat menu has now been altered and the Manager of the restaurant blamed Just-Eat constantly - they should have proof-read the menu before it went online! Oh, and the food is overly expensive! Especially when the majority went in the bin - along with all the PLASTIC tubs!

Been here once before last year, restaurant and loos are very beautiful. Lady behind the bar is so nice and friendly, as are most of the staff apart from an older gentleman who seems very grumpy and can be quite sarcastic. The food was lovely as always, portions arent huge and noticed it was much more expensive than last time,as are most places, but what annoyed me was that despite getting the government discount, a 10% service charge had been added, which we did not pay last year and when I queried it was told that we had after all received the discount. Felt embarassed so paid it, but not a nice thing to do, it's not them that's giving the discount after all, so no, we wont return, which is a shame.

.... but was nothing to do with the food, which was generally very good. Awful, awful management decisions made to mislead customers during a pandemic. Let me explain. We visited tonight, (a Tuesday) as part of the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme. We are staying locally on holiday. We wanted to eat out, and yes… we wanted to help out. The restaurant itself is quite impressive inside. Location wise is fine - one of those establishments right on a the A64 . Service was slightly ropey from the start. I asked for some advice about dishes. Was told "of course it’s nice -it’s on the menu." OKaaaaaay..... cheers mate. Food came (after two tables who ordered before us... but whatever) and was great - enjoyed by veggies and meat eaters in the family alike. The end of the meal is where the problems began. Asked for the bill politely. Twice. Third time, reminded them that we were still waiting. The bill eventually arrived. Was told to write name and email address on the back of the receipt in order to qualify for government help out to eat out discount. Lie no 1, there is no such requirement. I assume this was simply to obtain personal details to send unwanted marketing emails.Bill itself was £75, but half price took it down to £45. Errrrmmmmm, bit of a maths problem there. Lets generously assume this was a genuine maths error. A £7.50 'discretionary' tip added to the total. Took it to the bar to query both. Was told by the attending waiter that a 10% tip (based on the total pre-discount price of the meal of course) was 'required by the government.' Lie no 2. When I challenged this point (i.e. told that the waiter this was complete bunkum) I was told in response 'well this is what we say to everyone.' Oh well, that’s fine then! Refused to pay any tip in the end ( I would have tipped if not lied to) and left feeling really annoyed, and also as if I was a criminal.I'm afraid this simply comes down to very poor management. Either the manager advised his/her staff to lie to customers to squeeze a few quid out of them during a pandemic (nice move) or they are not monitoring their staff enough and allowing it to happen. The purpose of the help out to eat out scheme is to encourage people to venture out of their houses, boost the hospitality trade and stimulate the economy. This kind of nonsense completely undermines the good intentions of the governmental policy. Whatever the reason bheing this behaviour, this is a sure-fire way to squander any good will brought about by the decent food, decent location and nice interior. Reading a few recent reviews on here, I can see that this is far from an isolated incident and clearly a policy decision by this restaurant. If you really want to help out local businesses during a difficult time, may I suggest you spend you money in more honest establishments. Shame on you sirs, shame on you.

Ate here as part of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.. Food was of a good standard and everyone was polite and friendly which hasn't always been the case.. Booked a table for 7?30 earlier in the evening but were kept waiting on arrival for about 15 minutes, not sure why but not the worst. Unfortunately, tt the end they added a 10% service charge and I heard them telling other diners it was due to the fact that the government weren't paying for service only the discount.. but then they added a 10% service charge onto the whole bill before discount so that reasoning was clearly just a lie, else surely you'd just add a 10% charge to everyone's bill per the £10 discount (£1 per customer) . Clearly just a way of making money and cashing in on the fact that more people may be taking the opportunity to eat out at the moment. With the current climate I understand everyone is struggling but this is also an ideal time for families, who may not always be able to afford to eat at a range of places, to come and enjoy something different and I feel like the company are using that to their advantage knowing most people either won't want to or can't be bothered to argue over a few £££'s, as it can be embarrassing. Our charge was £3.95ish, couldn't be bothered to complain at the time knew it was coming as I heard several people query the charge and say they'd never had it before. Will vote with my feet by not returning again, as I hate a charge being added especially when the reasoning was absurd and untrue, not had this anywhere else we've visited during this eat out scheme either so go figure. Good service and good food means people are usually generous enough to tip where deserved, those that demand the money won't get the future return in my opinion.. Used to come fairly often, hope the £4 was worth it. So, overall decent food but just beware of the charge if taking part in the deal. Jinnah is also part of the meerkat 2 for 1 meals offer.. I bet they don't charge a service charge when those customers come for a meal even-though clearly meerkat won't be paying the full 50% or a service charge?? I've never experienced a service charge here before either so don't know if they will continue to add it afterwards if it's a successful money making scheme. Disappointing.

Visited earlier this last week with family. Booked a table in advance. Our temperature was taken on arrival and we were shown to the bar to wait for our table. The head waiter taking our order was not overly helpful when we enquired about ingredients in relation to food allergy. However, food arrived in reasonable time, could have been warmer but ok. The thing that really upset us was the same head waiter, when he came to collect the used crockery, pushed in between myself and my Husband, very close up, pressing against me to take his time collecting up the plates. I felt so disturbed by this that I had to try and turn my head and lean away so as not to face him . I have been shielding for months and thought somewhere like this would have safeguards in place, for example diners could have been asked to pass their plates to the end of the table or place on a trolley for collection.None of the waiters wore gloves or masks, but luckily the younger two waiters did keep the required distance. This is not good.

It isn't often, in these modern times, to visit an eatery that hits the mark on all levels like Jinnah at Flaxton, York does. A genuine warm welcome from a beautiful and impeccably dressed waitress takes you through to a clean, spacious, authentically decorated dining area. With a choice of à la carte or buffet, we chose the buffet. We were served poppadoms and the best tasting and varied pickle tray I've ever been offered. A sizzling selection platter of starters was next and in particular, the battered fish was exquisite, though all of the pieces were very tasty and nicely cooked. The choice of main course curries on offer was excellent and every single dish was fully flavoured, perfectly cooked and just downright delicious! We were offered a choice of different naan breads and selected the keema which, again, was of the same excellent standard as the rest of our meal. Throughout our visit, our waitress Farah (hope that's how she spells it! ) , was an engaging personality, interested in our experience, knowledgeable of the products and enthusiastic about her favourites! I have driven past Jinnah on the A64 everyday on my work commute for the past year. I was always put off by the random location and empty car park. However, desperate to have a good Indian in the area and after reading the reviews me and my Partner decided to try it as a Sunday treat.

We went for the buffet, although it was not a busy day, they still put out a whole buffet. There are few interesting curries, chickpeas were tender and daal were creamy.

Hadn't been for a long time as was quite spicy hot last time we went but decided to try again. The food wasn't as hot and was very tasty but was still hotter than most places we go. Decor in the restaurant is looking dated now and window sills needed a wipe over. However toilets were all new and clean very nice. Staff were really good and very chatty.

Groupon deal for an "all you can eat buffet" Fantastic vale, fantastic quality food and very good service. We were made most welcome and are very impressed with the restaurant itself. Quality quality quality is the best way to sum it up. The range of dishes was very very good with clear information saying what it was and how hot/mild it was. It is a way out from York but well worth the short drive.

On leaving Scarborough and joining the long queue on the A64 we decided to call in at Jinnah Flaxton for the buffet which we had tried before and knew it was good. But how good this was we were not expecting. Excellent service (Farah) a different set up from last time with poppadoms and a huge pickle tray served at the table, then a sizzling plate of starters which in itself nearly finished us off then the main course which was the buffet and you helped yourself. Fish, chicken, lamb and vegetable curries, enough for the most discerning customer and a superb peshwari naan made to a secret recipe. Certainly one to call at again and we would recommend you call if the traffic is slow as when we had eaten it was flowing well again.

Having paid for a groupon for "eat all you can buffet" with glass of wine, we were seated. knowing i had 2 children i knew i would sacrifice 2 glasses, i ordered 4 cokes, 4 popadoms and 1 naan bread.....and was charged £24.......yeah, £24 for 4 crisps and a naan bread as the waiter said he'd swap the wine for the coke.....we were told what to eat, when to eat it. To me a buffet is bits of this and that. seemed to me as we had a groupon voucher we were not a priority. one waiter was lovely, one was the rudest most miserable man I've ever met. The food was average at best, but for what i paid (groupon +£24 for crisps and bread) I'd expect better service. Avoid this place at all costs....I'll stick to The Viceroy in York

We were on a mini break at Griffon Forest and fancied an Indian, we both picked dishes we wouldn’t normally go for and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing! We both thoroughly enjoyed our curries, the food arrived piping hot and was so tasty. We would highly recommend this restaurant for a take away.

I was stopping a few miles away at the log cabins at Griffith forest I was pleased to see on the information that Jinnah would deliver , I did ask the person if the dish I'd ordered was any hotter than a Madras to which he assured me not , it was delivered on time but missing a special rice , that turned out to be very painful as it was more like a vindaloo & the rice would have stopped me panting like a Labrador in summer . I've no hesitation in recommending the curry house as I think it was very nice just a bit hot , I enjoyed my wife's curry the next day

On our way back from York, Sunday afternoon called in for a takeaway.Very nice and chatty girl took our order- pickle tray, lamb masaladar and chicken rogan josh. Pickles and poppodums ok, but the so called curries were inedible, no veg or chillies ,no heat at all, just a wierd taste and very, very salty. Both went into the bin!! The worst meal we have ever eaten. Our advice- keep driving!!!

Went to York to do a bit of shopping, decided to call here for some dinner (regrettably after driving past other places) the service was poor very slow, the pickle mix was a little odd as though you could taste bicarbonate soda in it, had to wait ages for the main and when it did arrive fair enough it was warm but there wasn’t any flavour at all very disappointing and couldn’t wait to leave, the waiter did ask if everything was ok to which I said it was fine, didn’t want to cause a scene and just wanted to get out ASAP. Much nicer places to go will never go here again.

Booked a table online, received an e-mail to confirm booking only when we arrived today we were told "You can't have it we have a wedding booked in" Then told "if you booked online they wouldn't have known we had a wedding booked in" Seriously what's the point having an online booking system???? This was for my hubby's birthday and disappointed is an understatement. Needless to say, I don't think I will return in a hurry if that's the attitude.

I've been to this restaurant in the past and never had a problem with the normal meals. However I went with my partner Thursday evening for the buffet and was very disappointed. The starter was lovely and piping hot. However that had been brought straight from the kitchen. The buffet though was put out while we were there and the food in it was just lukewarm. Through the night we both had bad tummies and made several trips to the toilet. Other than that this place is lovely. Nice decor, ambience and friendly staff.

Stopped off here on the way back from an afternoon in York .Hadn't read any reviews so didn't know what to expect .We had poppadoms and a pickle tray to start, which was very uninspiring and very expensive. The starters were very nice but the main meals were virtually inedible due to the amount of chillies used .I had a vegetable Balti which was so spicy it was uncomfortable to eat and my husband had a chicken jalfrazi .We had a half pint of lager which cost an extortionate £3.95.Good job we werent all drinking. The restaurant was lovely inside but was lacking any ambience or personality from the staff .Won't be rushing back .

It is worth stopping at this wayside Asian food diner. Excellent poppadoms and pickles, great naans and good variety of main courses. Very easy to over-order especially with encouragement from the enthusiastic waiters. Manager can be rather intrusive but it’s a small price for the offering. Over the top decor.

We haven’t visited Helmsley spice for about 7yrs so decided to give it a go it’ll be longer than 7yrs before we dine here again - the place in non authentic no table cloths no little tea lights nothing as you would normally get at an Indian restaurant- the place is cold and dismal looking an the tables are so close together you get the sardine in a tin feeling ! The food itself isn’t much better lamb chop starter came which was absolutely covered in partially raw onion an I think peppers I had to dig the 2 very scrawny chops out which were again covered in a thick red marinade what are they trying to hard I asked myself ? The main I ordered was meant to be mild an sweet it was so spicy I couldn’t eat it my lips were burning off an I don’t mind ‘ abit ‘ of spice it’s what Indian foods about but this was just too hot - the keema rice tasted of grease an mutton - an then the cauliflower bahji well if you like crunching on soil go ahead an order yourself one ;) oh an the little waiter should remember his smile before going to work ;)

Been using Malton Spice for takeaway and eat in for the past 8/9 years and it has always been inconsistent to say the least. Sometimes the food is 4 or 5 stars, other times it can be 1 or 2. Not my usual choice but I recently ordered the chicken tikka masala and was very disappointed, it was too sweet and an artificial red colour, very bland and unauthentic. The garlic naan was dry and chewy. The problem in my opinion is that Malton Spice has for some time been the only Indian restaurant/takeaway in the whole of Malton and Norton. So they have no competition. There are several Chinese places, several pizza/kebab houses and fish n chip shops. The town needs another 1 or 2 Indian curry restaurant/takeaways.
