Spice 4U in Ryedale

We had an excellent meal here. The menu has a lot of choice and the food was sensational. It was really busy for a Wednesday but the staff were attentive and polite and there was no wait for food. I'll definitely be going back.

Recommended by locals and lived up to expectations.

Ordered a takeaway for collection on their website. Easy to order and very efficient. Food was excellent, tasty and plentiful. Highly recommended.

We hadn’t booked but we were greeted with a smile & shown to a table. It was a busy Sat night & the restaurant was heaving. Saying that we quickly ordered drinks & our meals. Both arrived promptly & the food was amazing. It’s a well run little gem. If I had one criticism, it would be that the waiting area for take outs is packed & people are stood waiting where there are a couple of tables where people were eating. (Very overlooked). We can highly recommend & if in the area will definitely go back.

Curry was full of food color and never had such aloo jeera.it was covered in gravy.best thing was papad and daal. Definitely not an Indian taste but if you want to try without any expectation, feel free to go and order food . I’m definitely not gonna order it again.

Fabulous food. We went at 5.30 and it was pretty quiet. Soon filled up and takeaway orders were flying out of the door.

Love love this place Great for in house dining or take away. Understand meals having to be gluten free. And when family are home, dairy free too. Never had a problem with the meals. Perfect !!!

Without doubt the best in the area, will accommodate all tastes on or off menu. Excellent helpfull staff, I would book in advance though. Extensive menu but as mentioned will cater for all tastes....simply ask. Main street parking is the one and only issue.

I really enjoyed it. Food was good, service was prompt and portions were for hungry people. The only slight negative was that the desserts were very Anglophile’d. I’d personally prefer more authentic Indian desserts. Recommended for a decent Indian meal if you’re in the area.

Always good food from here. Went in last night for a curry and wasn't disappointed again. Had a small wait as it was so busy, but the service was quick with the amount of takeaways and dishes constantly coming out of the kitchen and we were looked after and asked if we wanted more drinks etc. Waiters were lovely and the food was beautiful with good sized portions. The only downside was it was very crowded so hard to hear other people at the table, but that just shows how popular they are and for good reason. Will always recommend!

Greeted upon arrival by smart friendly staff and shown to a table. Our order was taken promptly and after starters our meals were presented and placed on a hot plate on the table centre. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Will revisit soon.

Too busy, food very average, first time there and no rush to go back or recommend. Took 90 mins to get a starter! Needs a separate take away area too, crowds in on your when dining in.

Ordered a take away at 6.30pm. Told our collection time was 7pm. I arrived at the restaurant at 10 to 7 and finally got my takeaway at 5 to 8. Would you order a take away from there again? I won't.

Superb, very good food and extensive menu. Friendly staff and great service. It was fairly quiet when we arrived - on a Tuesday night- and almost full by the time we left. There seemed to be quite a few regulars known to the staff - always a good sign.

We happened upon this place whilst staying in a nearby cottage. On arrival on a cold, damp, Tuesday evening, we were surprised to find it full. We waited 15 minutes for a table and it was the most worthwhile wait I have ever had. From the superb lime pickle with poppadoms to the amazing “chefs special” Diesh Lamb main course, to the lightest naan bread. This place is on a completely different level to even the best curry houses. Contemporary decor, dishes and service, this place is a must visit when in Pickering, but book a table to avoid disappointment.

This lndian restaurant is Miss it at your peril. The food is excellent, the choices are very good, the portions are enough for most people and the staff are superb. The prices are very reasonable. There are less expensive Indian restaurants but I'd advise you that the extra is worth it. If you are close, make the effort, you won't be disappointed

Great food and service, seem they try to get more ppl and table which imo makes it seem crowded. My husband had to walk round another table in order to sit opposite me. I'm sure the ppl on that table didn't appreciate it either.

Came here for my 38th bday meal for 2ppl and have been greeted by friendly and helpful staffs as I'm allergic to spicy! (Burnt tongue) so opt for butter chicken and missus has RojanJosh and have to say the chicken are massively cooked hot and very tasty! Would definitely come here again! Just a Saturday 7th Oct day trip of six family members visiting Pickering while we stayed at the nearby Forest Holiday's lodges at Keldy. Our intention was to have an evening dinner at the Black Bull, just round the corner, but it was fully booked. We had already passed the Spice 4 U, and all had commented on the gorgeous aroma eminating from within. It was packed to the rafters inside with diners, plus we had two dogs, so as it was 7:30ish we decided to order online and take the meals back to our lodge. It took about an hour from ordering to receiving the meals, so we called into the White Swan pub for a cool beer etc while we waited. it took a little longer having to wait than initially advised, but I suppose it was understandable with so many diners, however once we got back to our lodge and opened up the well presented takeaway boxes, we were not disappointed. We had six meals, naan breads, bhajis, salads etc, all cooked to perfection, all delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and without naming names, we happened to see going in, a well known local TV celebrity, so I presume if its good enough for them, it must be highly commendable. Thank you Spice 4 U for our delicious meals, and would definitely consider again, should we be passing.

When we visit Scarborough we always have a take out from Spice for U in Pickering. The food is absolutely delicious. The best Indian take out I’ve had.

For over two years a takeaway from here has been our monthly treat. Superb food. Unfortunately for the past three visits the biriani has been insipid and the masala sickly sweet. I can only presume that they have a new cook. Looks like we'll have to try elsewhere next month. A real shame.

Takeaway food was good quality but seriously bland. If you like it medium to hot I suggest you tell them.

Disappointed evening, table booked for 6pm .., the meal was rushed because there was a queue at the door ! Plates cleared before we’d finished… Chicken dishes very dry .. noisy and rushed , we were shown the door at 7:30 !! Definitely won’t be returning for sure .

Visiting the area and followed the rating, 4.6 is a top score. We had a takeaway and ordered online for collection at a specific time. Turned up 5 minutes early, was packed inside and clearly popular. Paid for the good in advance and took the last seat as someone collected theirs. Sat there for an hour, with at one point over 28 people waiting! For collections or to be seated. Clearly its reputation is high and the place to go but there must be a point when you just can't take any more orders. Learned from the locals that grabbed a pint while waiting thus is common. Just complain and it'll turn up sooner, hopefully was his response. Well, that aside, got the good. Sadly this wasn't anything to write home about, just lacked flavour and appeared to be unsurprisingly rushed. Very salty and tasted mostly of tomato thsn anything else. Review won't change the popularity of the place. Don't go Friday or Saturday evenings, service and food might be better other times.

Absolutely spotless. Service was amazing and the food was top notch. the only thing was the Vegetable Briyani was too spicy hot for me. I still enjoyed it and ate it but would choose something different next time. Pricing I feel is reasonable and they also put our leftover food in a takeaway container which we could then have the next day (portion sizes very good)

Visiting the area for our honeymoon we booked a meal for the Saturday evening. We had a lovely evening, the food was delicious and staff so friendly and helpful and service great even though rest was busy. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

Packed on a Monday night - the local pubs are closed.A buzzing atmosphere. Fabulous food . Generous portions - we took enough home for a 2nd meal each. Other diners were telling us how fabulous it was.

We have eaten in the restaurant before as well as having takeaway. We’ve mostly enjoyed our meals but our last takeaway was mediocre. This one was awful. We ordered lamb rogan josh and a biriyani. Lamb rogan josh should be full of subtle tomato and spice flavour, layered not harsh. This was clearly just some harsh curry powder chucked in a tomatoey sauce. My wife’s biriyani had the same harsh flavours. The curries were both inedible and we had to bin them. Wasted money which no one can afford in the current financial situation. We won’t be spending money here again in a hurry which is disappointing as there’s precious little alternative in these parts.

Food was OK but, we felt rushed and We were served the next course while still eating the previous course. My wife had her hand bag and coat moved from a chair by one of the staff so he could take the chair for another table. Not a plesent experience in all, I felt that the restaurant was trying to accommodate too many customers and because of this service is suffered but this is probably normal.

We only had takeaway but the food was good. The place was busy and the staff tried their best to accommodate people who hadn’t booked. The staff were very friendly. I’ll definitely try again when next in area.

I had high expectations when I entered. After reading the reviews, I was excited. Unfortunately my hopes have been shattered. Can't say it's the worst indian food I've had, but it's definitely on the bottom of the list. The butter Naan was awful. Avoid it at all Costs. Appetizers were oily. Restaurant was really busy so service was not the greatest. Still trying to figure out why it was so busy.

The 4th time we've visited and again the food was excellent,service very good.Given 4 stars for the atmosphere only because there was a large family group next to us and although they didn't bother us they were rather noisy. Will go again.

We had a mid holiday curry and this was nearby so we just called in - lovely food, great service, reccomended!

Disappointed. Been going here for years, admittedly as a tourist only a couple of times per year but didn't have a great experience this time. Not sure if it's changed hands? Didn't recognise the person who appeared to be in charge. Despite booking several weeks in advance we had the worst table in the restaurant, a small table right by the entrance door and next to one of their serving tables, which meant it was noisy, not relaxing at all, watched by all the takeout customers, and catching my arm on the food on the serving table thing. Initially we were going to leave but decided to stay as the food in the past has always been good. Service without a smile - the server did the thing where they serve whilst staring intensely at the other tables?!? Food was ok, don't get me wrong, but not as good as it has been previously: like some of the other reviews, we found it to be a little bland and watery overall. I did notice the menu had changed since we were there last. At the end of the night, they couldn't get us a taxi which meant a 2.5 mile walk back to where we were staying in the pouring rain. Never been a problem in the past and really topped our bad experience off. Unfortunately, I think this was indicative of a noticeable decline in Pickering overall. Places closed, NYMR massively overpriced, poor public transport, complete lack of any taxi service. We cancelled our other planned meals out due to not being able to get home afterwards. We probably won't be returning to Pickering and definitely won't be returning to Spice4U. End of an era.

I've got to say that the food is second to none. It's the best Indian restaurant I've ever dined in .But you will need to book a table a couple of weeks in advance. If you ever go enjoy.👍

Spice 4 u , spice for me , but definitely no spice in my tea ! Seriously though I’ve never tasted a chicken tikka masala that tasted of nothing ness I am quite surprised how you managed to remove all the taste ? Any way , avoid the chicken tikka masala , Naans where nice rice was nice popadoms nice chicken tikka starter lovely !

We always eat here at least once on every visit to the North Yorkshire Moors (Railway). On this occasion, we arrived just after the 5pm opening time and the restaurant was soon buzzing. We left our car charging 50 metres away and both enjoyed a delicious dinner featuring main dishes which were completely new to us. The service was also excellent, as usual.

Had high hopes after reading the good reviews but we were left disappointed with our takeaway. The Madras was watery and lacking the depth of flavour you usually get but on the plus side had lots of heat. The Tikka Masala was the same and again very watery. Rice was average and not particularly tasty. Popadoms were nice but the Naan had virtually no filling. They also missed the mint sauce off the order. Overall ok and the staff were very friendly but we wouldn't return. Will try Namaste Bengal next time.

Got the minced meat sag as one of our dishes. In all the years of having them, this was the most bland meal ever. The other dish was better but nothing special.

Worst Indian I’ve ever had. Greasy, tasteless, chicken was chewy. Would not recommend. Garlic naan was the best and that was bang average :-( Could’ve gotten better food from aldi frozen section, needless to say it went in the bin where it belongs.

First time we ordered from here, never again, was not authentic Indian meal, water and water just tinned tomatoes supposed rogan josh, very bland, no taste, no spice, nothing. i could make better at home just tonight we were short of time, dont normally order out, no meat in keema nan and it was so sugary I couldn't eat it. Rank. Should of gone hungry, bins well fed

Ordered a takeaway and disappointed does not cut it……… South Indian myself I do have high expectations, however the food was appalling!! The two starters couldn’t be differentiated between, supposed to contain king prawn and not one in either starter!! My Tandoori king prawn was tasteless, bland and stone cold!! Thankfully after one bite of mine I decided against eating anymore as what followed was horrendous diarrhoea!!! My sister had the lamb biryanis, tasteless, bland poorly seasoned extremely poor example of this beautiful dish!! Will never eat here again truly terrible!!

Go. If you're hungry, if you want Indian or just something different then go! This place is amazing! Just had some.of the best Indian dishes we have ever had and we have been eating India for 30nplus years! The starters are great and the choice of mains and different main courses are just immense! Definitely a 10 out of 10 and more than Googles 5 out of 5!
