Lovely relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. They were very good with my daughter who has declared it her favourite restaurant.

The worst biriyani I ever had from the UK. I ordered biriyani, a mixed grill and chicken pakora..none of them was above average. Biryani had only oil, there was no taste of spices or salt.

Just had a lovely Korai Mix with lots of chicken, prawn and lamb. Beautiful sauce and the price is right. Nice chat whilst waiting with staff. Thanks Malton Spice for a great meal.

Weren't allowed in as we have a small dog. Malton is supposed to be the dog friendliest town in the UK. They say that they are not allowed to accommodate dogs but this is untrue. Won't be returning.

This is a restaurant we used to visit in a crowd of us. Was a vibrant place to go with excellent food with excellent service. Sadly, not now. 6 of us decided to book a table and look forward to a cracking night with good food. 4 of us arrived at agreed time, other couple were delayed due to floods and fog. Although quickly seated, we had to wait for 10 minutes before someone arrived and asked if we would like a drink, and were we ready to order. Explained we were waiting for the others and the drinks arrived, no ice in the G&T’s, but hey ho, no priblem. The restaurant was not busy, only other people in was a couple across from us, and then the others arrived. Poppadums arrived, and pickle tray (which had to be asked for) was poor. Only 3 choices two of which were onion based and were disappointing, with two to be shared ,between 6 of us. After a long wait, our mains arrived. Plates were cold, and the rice was lukewarm and had to be sent back to be heated up. Mains were very average, and when finished we got the bill and left. We’re not made to feel welcome, average service, and sadly won’t be back. Previous week we had visited an Indian in Filey and it was like the head and tail of a coin. Sorry, we’re not driving 20 miles again when we have a too one 5 miles away.

Avoid at all cost . £45 for a takeaway for 3 (collected myself ) , absolute slop , 8 bits of chicken in a full tray of slop . Never again

Staff lovely, however main course dripping in oil & everything cut up to a baby food size. Rice & Nan lovely.

The counter staff was very rude while I was ordering food. Asked whether a biryani had that authentic taste. So he replied rudely, "I don't know what authentic biryani tastes like".

Just a heads up if you're thinking of ordering cauliflower or mixed vegetable bhajis from the side dishes -- I was served curries not bhajis, to me bhaji means fritter (like the famous onion bhaji) not curry. Wasn't a mistake with the order as they were labelled as "bhajis". Bit disappointing but still pleasant to eat.... once I found a spoon to eat them with! I've found the dishes tend to be watery at this place, would be better if they were thicker. Once ordered a makhani and had strands of cheese in it, wasn't quite expecting that. This is often a quiet (and empty) restaurant so great if you want a peaceful place to eat but lacks the typical restaurant atmosphere. Overall okay, unfortunately the best Malton has to offer as surprisingly the only indian restaurant/takeaway in what is Yorkshire's Food Capital!

An empty restaurant should have been the clue. Hard to enjoy a meal in a room with no atmosphere. Cost the same as another restaurant we went to the next day. The difference was unreal. Ordered chicken korma- it was like a bowl of thin soup!

Decided to try here as our usual choice Jinnah sadly closed. We ordered takeaway in the establishment itself- which was dead. Staff were a tad abrupt and oddly defensive. The lamb bhuna was bland but edible. Lamb achar however was unpleasant and far removed from what lamb achari should be- it was a violent red colour and a sickeningly sweet tomatoey mess as opposed to hot and a little sour owing to it being cooked in pickle spices Punjabi style. Mostly sauce with only a small amount of meat. The portions were tiny and left us hungry. The naan and chapati very average. Avoid

Our chapattis cost more than our curry £2.50 per you usually get 3 with your curry ,his attitude was rude to say the least ,no wonder it was empty.and the curry swimming in gee /oil disgusting.dont go

We stopped going there a year ago because of the cold atmosphere and indifferent staff. Waiters watching television behind bar during our meal, My partner thought he'd give the takeaway vegetable curry a go last night. It looked and smelt like something you would find in a babies nappy, absolutely terrible

Didn’t look appealing more oil than meat

I ordered a lamb Korma and onion rice the onion rice was boiled rice with raw onion throughout the Korma looked like baby food with lamb chunks thrown in. The lamb didn't look fresh. When I called the restaurant to query the meal I was give a mouthful of abuse that all restraunts cook differently. This I understand, however this had to be the worst meal I have ever seen and was not happy with the quality with meal. There solution was bring it all back untouched.....insinuating that we had ate the meal and that I would only be refunded the Korma not the rice as this is how they cook it. It is in the Bin where it belongs they can keep the money and I hope it serves them well. I will never order another meal from this place my first and last.

Have been useing Malton spice since it opened but will never use it again the food was the worst I have ever tasted not only was it cold it was grease the guy who took the order was so rude and really unpleasant it’s no wonder they are nearly always empty absolutely disgusting food and service do not use this place avoid it at all cost

The first poor review that I’ve written, such is my disappointment, I feel compelled to write one as I don’t want anybody else to be disappointed. A group of guys from Church booked a table for a curry and a couple of beers and wanted to make it a regular occurrence. 1, As I walked in the manager/supervisor was swearing at somebody on the phone. 2, No draught beer (in itself no problem) but there were only a few bottles of beer in the fridge, we were a table of 7 so we had warm beer. 3, Poppadoms were stale. Very stale! So we sent them back. They were replaced with fresh poppadoms👍 4, One guy ordered meat samosas and vegetable samosas turned up. These were replaced👍. The Onion Bhajis were a bit dry. 5, The main course was very good👍😊 6, The tables were small and as we had empty bottles (which I eventually moved onto another table myself) on the table as well as glasses and also paper takeaway menus (bizarrely no restaurant menu) the tables were congested and the waiters placed the food in lots of weird but not wonderful places. 7, To say the staff were unmotivated is an understatement. We genuinely had the impression that we were an inconvenience. We weren’t expecting much, just some smiles and some manners. Given that we deliberately went on a quiet evening and we wanted to make it a regular occurrence, we expected at least a decent level of service. Whilst not rude, their attitude was very cold. 8, And then we come to the cost. Every single one of us was surprised at how expensive it was. Very, very surprised. And the bill wasn’t itemised, which made it hard, when we queried the amount. 9, The less said about the carpet to the toilet the better! 10, To their credit, they obviously realised how disappointed we were, and gave us a free beer each at the end. So this beer combined with how good the main course, gets them 2 stars. Sadly no more. If you want to go out for a curry in Malton, then I would genuinely consider driving through to Pickering instead. I’m genuinely saddened to say that it’s what we are going to do next time. I’m sorry for this Malton Spice! I have slept on this, got feedback from the other six guys who came along and we all agree. I hope that this feedback (whilst negative) encourages you to make improvements!

Not one of the best. Portions while probably just ample not as good as the majority of Indian restaurants we've visited. Also no card payments, cash only which is unusual these days for an eat in establishment

Friendly polite staff nice and clean would definitely recommend we had set meal for 2 just cooked perfectly definitely would go again if we come back to malton worth the price thankyou tracey and John

We come here every time we crave an Indian. Lovely staff, easy to order and collection always quick and easy. So tasty and authentic dishes. Looking forward to eating in soon!

Made a booking for 4 people at 9.30pm. I confirmed with them that they close at 10.00 and that this was OK. On the Saturday we turned up at 9.20pm. They said they were closing and that they didn't have my booking recorded. I told them that it's 9.20pm and they close at 10.00pm but refused us entry. Absolutely disgusting. We stopped using them a long time ago for takeaways as service was always rude, but will definitely never use again for either.

I chucked it all in the bin, I won't be wasting money here again. Onion bajis weren't fresh, chicken tika was tough and tasteless and the curry was bland AF! Malton Spice used to be good, what happened?

This restaurant used to be very good some years ago. The waitrs were unsure regarding intolorances and allergies. Food bland. Unlikely to revisit.

Absolutely the worst meal I've ever had in my life!!! I'm generally not for complaining and had seen some bad reviews for the place before I visited but I dismissed them because not everybody likes curry and sometimes people jump on the bandwagon. I got to the restaurant 2 hours before the published closing time but when I arrived, the place was dead, arrogant staff and when I ordered a takeaway I felt pressured to order quickly. I used their facilities whilst I waited and within 10 mins (including wee) my food was ready. No thanks yous, no smiles, we looked like we unconviencienced them. We got home 5 mins later and although the madras and curry sauce were OKish, the mixed starter was so hard and rubbery that it felt like the meat had been in a freezer for over 12 months and flash cooked. Avoid this place and even when tipsy, don't let somebody convince you to give it a chance. Place needs new owners!!

Would rate it 10 stars if I could. Quick and polite service. One of the best curries I've had in the UK. Would 100% recommend and will be coming back on our next visit.

My order came and I didn't know the bag inside was split so as I picked the 2 madras curries out it went all over my foot, burned it, and the curry went all over my floor.phoned them up he said didn't you check as it had been spilled, erm no and put phone down. They rung back my mate answered they told her I would get my money back, oh good cause I now have to pay for a carpet cleaner, to 20 mins later they arrived with our order again. I didn't answer the door as I was busy cleaning my carper as much as I could not happy at all

Do not buy take away food from here if you want good food. Absolutely discussing all the food went in the bin! They even asked for cash payment which we obviously refused to give for obvious reasons. Yuk

Ordered a Kong prawn biriani and a king prawn jalfrezi with a plain naan tonight. Was told the price when phone ordering. Jalfrezi far too hot 🔥 to be edible (and he likes hot curries) the prawns in it were well over cooked and the delivery driver asked for almost £3 over the stated price. Grrrr

I never leave reviews but this was so poor that I thought I was back in the 1980s. We all ordered different main courses and they all came with the same burgundy coloured sauce. If you are a Man Utd or Liverpool fan, or like your Passanda to be red rather than the usual yellowy cream colour, then this is the place for you. Starters 3/10 - Tiny frozen samosas like you get at Christmas as party food. Fish Pakoras which maybe contained some sort of fish but mainly a bit like cheap chicken nuggests. Prawn Puri left well alone, Onion bhajis about edible. Poppadoms - 1 bag were soft and chewy, the other was passable but not the usual feeding frenzy to kick off a good Indian meal. Mains & sides 3/10* (*Extra point for the imaginitive colour of the sauce) . Meat all floor-scraping standard (Chicken, Lamb), all basically the same flavour but 2 had a token chilli laid on top, side dish spinach 50% / 50% mush, Bombay aloo - a few small pieces of potato in a beige sauce. Naan bread - a spectacular 6/10 which we all enjoyed because we had given up on everything else. Our recommendation ? Have a few frozen chips and a pizza ready to go in the oven, as that is exactly what we did. Dreadful.

Reasonable food, no atmosphere (we were only people eating in at 7pm) and service rather abrupt. Seemed to be doing a brisk take away trade.

Absolutely disgusting worst Indian food my partner and I have ever tasted and we have eaten a lot dirty cutlery which is especially bad during covid times the glass which my larger arrived in smelt rancid and when asking the waiter 3 times what something was on the menu he couldn’t tell us so we didn’t order it the gentleman opposite asked for salt and pepper and was told they didn’t have any then he requested a receipt on paying and the staff said he couldn’t have one which is understandable as we later found out because we were overcharged never again

On a wet Sunday evening in July we chanced upon Malton Spice. There was no problem finding a table for us, as we were the only people "dining in". Food was fine - as described, freshly prepared, tasty and hot. However, the atmosphere was rather flat with the lack of other diners - and not even any background music.

Our experience of dining here was mediocre. The food was ok, not fantastic but reasonably priced and tasty (a little sweeter than other similar restaurants). The staff were not particularly friendly and the restaurant itself wasn't very warm. I'd opt for a takeaway if I was using this restaurant in future.

I order lamb korai .and plain rice. I usually order from my favourite Indian which is India restaurant but they were close today due to to this disease. So rice was so dry and it was cheapest rice you you can find on the market even though they say they been open so many years. Called here for a takeaway on sat evening there were a few diners in the restaurant: ordered our food an sat down to wait , the phone was ringing for take aways constantly, a gentleman came in to collect his food and was paying by card while he was entering his pin the phone rang and one of the waiters answered the phone which then cancelled the gentleman’s transaction and made his payment declined the phone rang twice more and twice more this gentleman was left with his food on the counter top waiting to pay surely if whoever was ringing would ring back if they were wanting to order food DONT leave customers already collecting their meals to wait it’s bad manners of the staff ! when we got our own take away home we had poppadoms & pickle’s which consist of onion - onion oh and more onion and some very watery kind of mango an the usually again very watery mint sauce , we had the sizzling starter which wasn’t the best rubbery battered onion , some chicken tikka an 1 piece of lamb and a kofta : main dishes - I ordered lamb passanda which was like a wall paper paste no creaminess whatsoever and way way too sweet it was in fact so sweet I couldn’t eat it and the lamb pieces were very small and very few of them too which most tasted of beef anyway - my husband had lamb Tikka Balti which which he said was good not one of the best he’s had but he would deffo have it again - was very disappointed as we’ve had in the past some good food from here but the last couple of take aways haven’t been as good and the mannerism of the waiting staff in the restaurant really need to look after their customers a little better !

Popped in for a takeaway, the food was ordered, the restaurant was quiet and there were a few takeaways going out but not a lot. I’d normally expect to wait 15-20min but instead 40min later I’m still sat waiting.

Very quiet but great food and service.

Not been here for a long time and won't be going back due to the fact that my chicken Dansak was not edable due to been way way to spicy. Usually Dansak contains lentils but this was just a burning sauce. Shame really.

We only ever order takeaway from here, so I cannot speak on the service at the restaurant. The food is well-seasoned and a step above regular Indian takeaway food. We've ordered a variety of different dishes and we really appreciate the variety on their menu. The only problem we've ever really had is that their curries can be a bit heavy on sauce and light on filling/meat. If you're paying £8 for a curry, without rice, then you want there to be a good amount of meat or veg in the curry.

Took my daughter there for her birthday. They don't do a childs price on the buffet. My gtandson had to pay full price. The staff didn't bother at all with us. After starting our meal. The starters were cold then the main meal pots ran out off curry. Told staff they didn't refill. Our other food was left cold. we left very disappointed and the staff never said goodbye. I would go as far as to say they were rude. A very grubby place. Will never go back or advice anybody to go.

We came here for a meal on a Friday night, when we arrived we had to wait ages to be acknowledged and then had to show ourselves to a table. It took a while to get the menus and drinks, by the time they came to take our food order we had almost finished our drinks, This was despite there only being two other tables full. The staff seemed to be too bothered with the takeaway service and looking at their phones more than serving. If it was solely based on the food we would go back, the food was great.

This was a meal to celebrate a birthday plus the merging of two families. We had children aged 6, 11 and 14 with 4 adults.

A mild veg balti & beef & ginger balti takeaway. Both very tasty but different, nice pillau rice, tandoori roti & poppadoms. Quick service. I think it's the best Indian I've tried in Malton.

Had a Groupon for £40 off food for 4 people. Being a family of 4 who like Indian we were excited to try somewhere new. Surely the Groupon is intended to bring new customers and impress so people return and tell others.... did not happen. Upon arrival we did not feel particularly welcomed. We were seated with menus and left no drinks order taken. It seemed a long time before anyone returned. When taking drinks order it seemed too much trouble. When taking food order we asked for chicken nuggets for my 6 year old as this was on the online menu to be told "no you have to order 4 adult meals with the voucher does she not even like Indian?" The voucher states £40 off food for 4 people and states on it also under 18s must be accompanied by an adult... no indication therefore of an adult curry ordering requirement. He rolled her eyes then said well she could have an adult portion of chicken nuggets to which we agreed. At no point did anybody check everything was ok. We were the only people in and it was like it was too much to serve us. The food was delicious so the service is all that let them down. When the table had been cleared he brought the bill and asked if we wanted anything else.... actually had assumptions not been made and we received some customer service we would have had desserts and more drinks but because they had clearly judged us and were not accommodating or welcoming we had no desire to pay more than necessary at all. It is a real shame as the food was lovely but we shall not return at all.

The curry was that bad it ended my relationship with my partner. Add a massive argument with the muppets who own the dump, who didn’t have any coriander and made a chicken curry with coconut.Jesus where did they find the cook. What a horrible little place this is. Stay clear

We always use Malton Spice for a takeaway, at least once every 2 weeks and have never been let down! The food is great and full of flavour and the delivery is so quick. We will continue to keep using Malton Spice and always recommend to our friends and family!

The menu is varied and the food cooked to order. So it's always piping hot and fresh. The speciality dishes are delicious and the service is good on the whole. The decor is slightly dated and the restaurant is not as popular it's takeaway service. So on the many occasions we've been the restaurant has never been full. They do a buffet night which is popular and great value for money. Wine apart very limited in its drinks options : in fact the Coke is decanted from a 2ltr bottle from the local supermarket. Disabled access is limited but the staff are really helpful and nothing is too much trouble. It's our preferred Indian option in Malton.

Be careful using a Groupon voucher I purchased for 16.90 voucher for 40.00 off food. Unfortunately one of the party couldn't make it so they deducted 20.00 off common sense would have said take 30.00 off as they was 3 of us. Other than that food was fantastic shame they let themselves down slightly.
