The Buck Inn in Ryedale

Second visit this year another quality meal. Two lovely dinners one of beef and the other Lamb and the Fish and Chips all three meals where delicious. Service was excellent and the staff moved us to allow the dogs to lie down. The chef certainly knows his stuff. Only one of us could manage a dessert which not only looked delicious I'm assured it tasted delicious as well.

Make sure you book for the Sunday dinner. You won’t be disappointed. We had the Beef & Turkey roast. It came with separate veggies. But the portions were not a disappointment. Hot plates, hot food and utterly delicious Staff are very warm and welcoming, one not to miss

We ate here on 04.10.24 and we both had the special menu and had the steak, guiness and blue cheese pie with chips - it was absolutely fab!! the pie itself was a full pie and was massive - now as you know quantity does not always mean quality however, in this case both aspects of it were fantastic. Best pie I have had in a while. We were both stuffed but couldn't not try a dessert from the specials board - brown sugar meringue with spiced plums, blackberries and figs - I often find that restaurants just used shop bought meringue- however this meringue was crisp on the outside and soft and chewy in the middle - perfect. Furthermore the lovely girl who was in charge of serving us, sat us down , brought the drinks over and couldn't be more attentive. Yes you have to book and it would appear that they do finish serving food early but in this day and age when small business are closing all the time - its a small thing to ask .. loved it

We don’t usually add bad reviews but felt we had to in this instance. Called in to the pub during the afternoon to enquire about a table requesting one for 7pm. We said we may be a little earlier so returned at 6: 30 pm as we fancied a drink before our meal. Unfortunately on arrival we were informed there was no table available as no reservation. Staff seemed unconcerned and made no offer to rectify the situation just suggesting a Pizza place further up the street. Also take note, they stop serving food at 7 pm not 9pm as advertised elsewhere. .

We recently holidayed in Thornton-le-Dale and visited the Buck everyday, eating there three times. We found the pub very welcoming. The staff and the landlord are friendly and efficient, the beer is good as is the food. The roast dinner was especially good, and the autumn pavlova was historic. Highly recommended.

Staying just down the road for a couple of nights we visited here twice once to have food with friends and we can’t recommend highly enough great food & atmosphere. Service from the waitress on the Saturday night was outstanding my wife even commenting that they should bottle up that enthusiasm and sell it pity we can’t remember her name All the staff were friendly and attentive Would definitely go back if we ever stay in the area again Good to see a local pub being run in this fashion Thanks

Ended up at The Buck accidentally for an early afternoon birthday meal. A good selection of options for food and drink, including specials. Very generous portion sizes for the price didn’t end up eating again until well into the evening.

The Buck Inn is a beautiful Grade II listed 18th & 19th Century traditional village pub situated across the road from the 13th Century Market Cross in the centre of the picturesque North Yorkshire village of Thornton-le-Dale. It has two well furnished rooms to the front sharing the bar, which had a small but decent local cask offering on. Both of these rooms are dog friendly, which was perfect for our family. There's a larger restaurant / function room in the other part of the building which was also very attractive and a large beer garden with a covered area to the rear. The garden is basically a big stretch of grass, which I'm sure can accommodate plenty of people and be great in the Summer but the tables were all stacked up when we visited in early Spring. A specific highlight that really made us chuckle was the Lost Property Fox, a great way to save those items left behind after an evening in the pub. It also looked like they had regular entertainment, quiz nights and there was a dart board to the back of the lounge. Overall the pub had a very nice cosy ambience with great service and some of the best pub food we've had in a very long time. It's a well-kept friendly village local that is as welcoming to tourists as the locals and certainly worth a visit if you're in the area. We recommended grabbing an Ice-Cream from Balderson's next door or some quality treats from the Chocolate Factory across the road and heading down to enjoy Thornton Beck afterwards.

What a little gem of a pub. Landlord and lady are very cool, so friendly. The food is excellent, pub food cooked very well. Good selection of beers too. If you are in the area, it is well worth a visit.

Was driving out from Pickering and decided to see if we could find a pub for lunch on a very wet Friday. Saw this pub and thought we should try it. Great little local pub. Staff were soooo friendly. Sever could not do enough for us. Food was good too. Both had haddock in beer batter with chips. Fish was very large and chips were fresh potatoes. Tartare sauce was home made and tasted it too. Batter on the fish was so light and crispy. Superb. My Girlfriend only eats small amounts so no surprise she didn’t finish her, but I am a big eater and I could not eat all of mine. We plan to come back this way again by the end of the year and this is one place we will definitely visit a few times. Highly recommended. Great friendly local pub atmosphere as well. The locals were friendly too. Had a chat with one guy for a while.

Called in several time last week and found this a lovely friendly bar with a good choice of drinks & food. The staff were all friendly and helpful giving us tips on places to visit and eat out, they let us play darts with the kids so they were happy

We just called in ,on speck on Sunday to see if we could have Sunday lunch. Greeted by the lovely ,friendly Abbey She gave us a table , served us quickly with a delicious Sunday lunch . A great pub went for sunday roast omg outstanding they had a christmas special menu aswell as the normal menu mum inlaw got the normal menu we got the special christmas menu both outstanding they do the best roast dinners whats not to love about all the food here fish and chips is a winnet hands down all the food they serve needs a 20 ****** plus brilliant freindly pub staff are lovely so welcomming great atmophere best pub in the village take it from me its worth the going if your in the village say it in one word fabulous

Lovely Sunday lunch with friends. We come to Thornton le Dale regularly and we are always met with a smile and hello at The Buck. The food was so tasty and the ambience was great. We will be back soon!

Whats not to like. Surprised to see a couple of recent negative reviews! We are in the village for a week in local motorhome park. This has become our friendly 'local'. Warm & cozy, friendly locals and staff, clean & comfy...and great foodat goid value. Wish we had such a great local pub where we live....might have to move from the grotty south coast. Yorkshire is tops.

Not bad but not great either. Everything a bit middle of the road, beer, food, prices, ambience, staff. Fine for an evening but no real reason to rush back.

We visited for lunch whilst staying in the area. My parents honeymooned here over 50 years ago so I wanted to visit. We had a lovely meal, portions were very generous and priced accordingly. Small 2inch step into the property so my husbands wheelchair had to take a run up, but once in there was plenty of space. Its a small olde world put with friendly wait staff and a lovely atmosphere of days gone by.

Called in here for supper for a quick bite and we were very pleasantly surprised. Although very busy with enthusiastic locals we were offered a table even though we hadn’t booked. There were masses of choices on the specials board and in the end we plumped for a haddock and chips and the seafood platter (prawns, smoked salmon, cod goujons, rocket salad, Marie Rose sauce and served with a mini granary loaf). The food was good honest pub grub of a decent standard, very good value and nicely presented but what really made our evening was the kind, friendly and very welcoming service we received throughout. It was exactly what we wanted and we had a great Yorkshire experience. Thank you guys!

We have spent a week’s holiday in Thornton Le Dale and have been regular customers at The Buck, for food and for drinks. Both the meals we had were good, and were excellent value for money. We also enjoyed calling in for a drink, enjoying the large garden on a couple of warm evenings. We think the Buck’s secret is to have sufficient, and pleasant, staff. I never had to wait at the bar, a member of staff was always there to serve me.

We went for Sunday lunch on 3rd September 2023, and although on the whole the food was ok, 1 of the Yorkshire Puddings was burnt to a crisp. I would have thought that actually being in Yorkshire would have guaranteed a decent Yorkshire Pudding - but alas not. When we got home, we realised that we may have inadvertently left a retracting dog lead behind. We rang to ask if they had found it - which they had. I asked would they would be kind enough to post it back to me if I sent a stamped self-addressed jiffy bag to send it in. THEY FLATLY REFUSED !! No compromise - nothing but a "no - you'll have to collect it". Not an option as we live over 100 miles away. It wasn't as though it would cost them anything but a little time to post it. How difficult would that have been? Whatever happened to good old fashioned customer service? It certainly doesn't exist at The Buck Inn.

Landlord and landlady were very welcoming and went out of their way to get us what we wanted and make us feel at home. Lovely atmosphere and great menu and food. As a vegan, they were very accommodating to my needs, which was a bonus (and a change!) 3 very satisfied customers. Will definitely be back, when I'm next in the area.

Popped in at lunchtime today, Wednesday lunchtime as a regular visitor. Opted to have the Chefs Special, a Beef sandwich with side salad. Nearly went for The Buck Burger as it always tastes amazing but fancied a change. There is no Chicken burger option and the scampi is o my available as one size portion. I wasn’t disappointed at all, Beef was cooked extremely well and presented in a lovely sourdough bun.
