The main meals were advertised on their website at about £4 less than the actual cost, so not a good start to an evening, so very misleading. To make things worse the esteemed home made steak pie was very average, an overdone crust with dried up steak under small amount of thin gravy. This was served with not so creamy mash and tasteless peas and carrots. The service and pub decor I have to say were good. The food sadly let everything down on this occasion. We won't return and didn't bother with dessert which looked expensive for the small portions.

Beautiful, old country pub in a gorgeous little village. Called for drinks mid-walk from Hutton-le-hole. Lovely atmosphere. Really olde worlde. Mind your head!! Outdoor seating on the front and lovely garden to the rear. Polite staff. Other customers meals looked really good . 👍🏻 It was a Wednesday afternoon and business was brisk. I've a feeling we will be back when next in the area - probably for a meal. Yes I would recommend a visit. Yes I would visit again. (Ps - bonus points for the Moulton Brown hand wash ☺️)

We came here for lunch after a nice walk from Hutton-le-hole to Lastingham, we skipped starters and just had a main course, this turned out to be a good decision in retrospect as the portion size is pretty large! My parents both had the belly pork and both very much enjoyed it, I had the fish and chips. The chips were excellent and it was a great piece of fish, very tasty and satisfying. The pub is very nice inside and out with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. We'll definitely be returning next time we're in the area.

Called at the Blacksmiths for lunch. (we remembered the last time we were in the North Yorks Moors and had a fine evening meal here). Our party of 6 were made welcome from the moment we stepped over the threshold. Perfect well kept ales on the hand pulls, excellent lunch enjoyed by all of our group. (Highly recommend the Seafood Salad, Chicken Caesar salad, Minute Steak, Pine Nut tart & Scallop starter) We were a little hesitant about returning due to a few poor recent reviews, our experience was nothing like the poor reviews. The Blacksmiths lived up to our expectations and more, delightful staff, great beer and superb food. Recommended without hesitation.

Quintessentially the definition of a proper Yorkshire pub - you can not ask for more! Set in the stunning village of Lastingham, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at the Blacksmith Arms 14/07/2024. The reception was warm, inviting and friendly. The staff there looked so pleased to see you, even though they were working a sunny Sunday evening. The food was superb and came as we finished our drinks. I have never been somewhere that make you feel as invited and welcome on your first visit as the Blacksmith Arms. Whole heartedly would recommend for a bit or just a drink and listen to all the locals chatter - what charm! Look forward to visit again!

Visited the Blacksmith arms in Lastingham on Sunday 21st for Sunday lunch. On arrival we got a drink in the bar and then were shown through to our table within good time. Our order was easy, 3 of the roast Beef. A short time later our food arrived and was well worth the short wait! I can highly commend the red cabbage so much so I had to ask for the recipe! Much to full for desert although the menu looked tempting, maybe on our next visit. 100% would recommend!

Extremely disappointed! We met our elderly friends for Sunday lunch which was meant to be a lovely treat. Despite seeing negative reviews recently we decided to go with an open mind - what a mistake. From arriving to leaving the experience fell well below the bar. Very poor service, a rude waitress, poor food (mine was inedible) a cashew nut roast (burnt) with no sign of a cashew nut! White pepper as a seasoning - really? I thought I couldn't go wrong with a coffee - wrong! Stone cold! We certainly won't return! Save your money and precious time and go elsewhere!

However, we arrived to find signs on the door saying no dogs allowed. Furthermore we were told we could sit in the beer garden (in January) where all of the tables eventhough under a shelter were soaking wet. I think the website needs to be updated stating dogs only welcome in the outside spaces. We could not stay and eat and had to find somewhere else involving further travel to have lunch

We have stayed in Lastingham 7 times now, where the Blacksmith's has played a stong part in our decision to return. We have seen some changes in this time; especially since we last visited - pre-covid - and those changes have only enhanced the experience and scope of the pub. The garden for instance has has a miraculous transformation and became our go-to for the week whilst were there. Inside has not changed too much, other than to freshen up or update needed functions.Other comments are: Pizzas are awesome, staff friendly, menu extensive (love the lamb and mint pie), new cider on tap is great (Inche's) and the sea food platter is generous and awesome. We're already booked to be back next Easter '22!

We have loved the pub for many years but there’s a distinctive change in appearance and ambience . The character seems to have been removed . The entrance hall looks cheap with the wine rack in it and the bar is illuminated whereas it used to be darker and full of atmosphere. I may be wrong but the style now is bland. It’s probably been updated but just feels cheap. Lots of pine tables in the dining room - standard, adding to the lack of character. No guest beers on and the only cider is Strongbow. Heart breaking really that another pub has deteriorated unnecessarily. I do wish the old landlord best wishes, however. He was excellent. Overall it feels depressing. The seating area facing the pub was shabby too.

Ordered a side of gravy with my fish and chips and that combination was made in heaven. The chips were the nicest I’ve had in decades and when dipped in the gravy became a thing of wonder! Only downside is it is very remote so someone has to drive. Taxis are hard to come by so when ours fell through for our journey home, a couple of locals offered to drop us off on their way home. Really great welcome, delicious food and charming staff, who looked after us beautifully. It was a lovely day and, although we’d booked inside there was no problem about moving us out into the lovely, really imaginatively arranged garden (lots of attractive cover should the rain have blown in). Lovely village pub with fantastic menu choices, found it difficult to choose as there were so many delicious options. The food was very tasty and service was superb, staff were friendly and attentive. Lots of consideration was given to making the experience covid safe; three choices of track and trace, toilet occupancy signs outside, sanitiser stations, table service and division screens. Although I did not like the divisions screens too much, plexi glass might be better but they served a purpose and the pub has done well. This however does not affect the rating I gave. Lovely place.

She suggested we try them at around 4. We found the helpfulness continue with all the staff when we arrived. They were happy to prepare a table inside the pub when we asked if we could relocate from the garden (lucky as it poured down wirh rain shortly afterwards!) The pub is traditionally cosy & had excellent COVID safe measures in place including a one way system & hanging plastic curtains separating each table. Our main courses were all good sizes - especially the jumbo fish & chips. My son’s steak & ale pie was the best he’d had & my scampi & chips were definitely one of, if not the best I’d had. The scampi was amazing. The triple cooked chips just melted in the mouth.Although full, we couldn’t resist the excellent pudding menu & they didn’t disappoint- with the apple & raspberry crumble with custard a winner - again an excellent portion size - with 2 of us easily sharing. We had a fabulous relaxed family meal and would definitely recommend the Blacksmith Arms for a homely, welcoming, delicious & good value family meal. We will be back. Thank you

Very Covid secure with plastic sheeting around each table. Food 2s delicious. Can recommend the seafood medley salad; lots of nice fish. Fish pie was to die for too apparently.

My husband and I ate here while staying nearby in Stape. Definitely the best meal we had while in the Yorkshire Moors and was not overpriced like many places seem to be in the area. We both had yorkshire puddings as a starter and the only niggle (and main reason not 5*) was that one was still slightly frozen. The lamb and mint pie for mains was lovely. It isn't gourmet quality but good, honest food and just what you need after a day walking on the moors.

Did a little Google as you do in an attempt to find a quiet little place tucked away from the rest of the world en route home for us from a weekend break near Saltburn (Loftus).A phone call just to check we were ok to bring our two Jack Russell's and Bob's your uncle as it were.Arrived in the early afternoon 24/8/20 to find the most lovely of settings in Lastingham village just across from St Marys Church. The weather couldn't have been better..perfect in fact for taking a table in the garden at the rear of the pub. There are a few tables at the front if preferred. All Covid stuff is competently adhered to. No need to go inside apart from a visit to the loo. If inside you'll find all tables separated by screens.Table service is provided outside and again have to say the young chap and the rest of the staff were excellent and polite. The food was delicious... Portion size ( i had the belly pork with proper chips and veg & Dawn a special salad) was ample. Puds were yum too.Such a relaxing place...if there were hassle's going on because of the Eat Out to Help Out they most certainly weren't evident.Even without the discount prices were very reasonable. No price hike because of location etc, unlike a pub we visited the day before (Horseshoe Hotel,Egton Bridge) who were fleecing all-comers.Talking of fleece lol....You may find you will be sharing your visit with the flock of sheep that graze around the village freely, however not inside the pubs boundaries. For us it was the perfect place to briefly unwind on our homeward journey.Just wish we lived a little closer... I hope we'll be able to visit again some day.

We are staying in a cottage at Rosedale Abbey visited yesterday afternoon for food which was plentiful and tasty a good selection of dishes on offer we both went for the Yorkshire hotpot a giant Yorkshire pudding filled with succulent chunks of beef in a rich gravy topped off with sliced potatoes we also enjoyed the homemade rice pudding and strawberry jam and frangipani and ice cream both delicious however I think we was ripped off with our soft drinks £2.60 for a pint of lime and soda come on most places we’ve previously had the same drink for £1.00 dick Turpin must have been behind the bar today

We enjoyed a fabulous afternoon meal here last Thursday. Great one way system, staff very nice, lovely little garden. The food was absolutely delicious and we will definitely go back when we next visit Yorkshire. A small thing and this may not be a downside to some, but the portions could be a little smaller. All four of us couldn't finish all our meals, that's saying something when two men who have huge appetites had to give up with them both saying they hated to leave food on their plates when it's so good and tasty LOL We loved it here and it's a must visit if you're in this neck of the woods.

Definitely worth searching for. Lovely, typical English country pub nestled in a deep valley on the moors. Idyllic setting right opposite the village graveyard ! Great pub food and loads of choice. Fish pie was crammed full of chunky white fish (haddock ?), salmon, and prawns. Proper pies with shortcrust pastry top and bottom - lamb and mint really tasty and filling. The sort of pub you go back to time and again if you get the chance !

We stayed for 3 nights last week. It was our 6th stay over the last 30+ years. The landlords may have changed over the years but the standard of service and quality of food remains first class. Pete and his team are to be congratulated on getting the place up and running again in the most trying of circumstances.

Visited here as a group of Nine, the place was really busy, but the staff managed to accommodate us no problem. The food was lovely, all of us really enjoyed it. The pub has put some strict social distancing rules in what I thought was really good as one of our party has been shielding. I would recommend the Fish and chips or the Steak and Ale pie they both was good. Had a great pint of old peculiar, I will definitely visit this place again, after a long day walking. It was just what I needed.

I don’t get away much as have my own business so was looking forward to this stay , Got upgraded from annex to main house and told music from a wedding til midnight which we were fine with. First room smelt so bad of mould and damp so I rejected , second room offered looked like student accommodation, had a view of the bins and had black mould round the shower so I rejected , 3rd room I was offered had stained carpets , ( as did all actually ) bed was so awful hardly slept could feel the springs and bathroom had a mould patch on ceiling and dirty grouting . Utterly ridiculous really , manager didn’t come a see me to apologise , staff were nice enough just kept saying sorry as if they deal with it all the time . No offer of compensation , I didn’t make a fuss as was with son for his 18th . In my opinion needs closing and all the issues sorting out , a good clean , some money spent on rooms , definitely not a 4* hotel, cheep things in rooms , containers catching leaks in corridors , really ?? Come on whoever owns it , ( asked the staff who did and they said they couldn’t remember his name ) spend some money on your hotel as has amazing potential but currently a bit of a mess . 😔
