We wanted somewhere not too expensive to meet up for mums birthday lunch. Fairly quiet when we arrived but soon got busier with a great biz for a pub nowadays. So you need to book. We soon found out why. Great choice on the menu with specials board aswell. Lovely setting in the pub. Food was everything we expected and liked the importance of veg on their descriptions. Sweet selection also good and tastes homemade rather than bought in. We had a variety of starters, mains of burgers, sea bass, lamb shank to finish with raspberry mouse and sticky toffee.

I was advised that this was a great place to go for Sunday Lunch over four years ago. I only managed to visit this weekend and what a great experience it was. There was l lovely log fire as we entered the pub, we decided to pass on starters and go straight to main courses, I went for the roast beef and was surprised to be asked how I liked my beef cooked, I said rare if possible and one of our friends asked for hers medium. The other two went for the roast leg of lamb. When it came, it was beautiful rare sirloin of beef, our friend had perfect medium beef and the others had ample portions of tender lamb. A good selection of nicely cooked vegetables, everything was just perfect! I just managed a sticky toffee pudding which was also delicious! We will definitely be back, it won’t take 4 years this time!

Had a lovely meal here, staff were excellent and could not do enough to help and were clearly very busy, but so polite. The dishes we had were excellent although disappointed in the Pastrami starter which just had some very limp rocket and the pastrami was tasteless. However all other dishes were excellent. There was however a very obnoxious old man with a walking stick in who was clearly a regular and just vulgar how he spoke to the staff and the demands he was making. He was clearly well known and clearly thinks he can act how he wants.

Four of us called for Sunday lunch I had the pork . Lots of fresh veg very nice roast potatoes and the crackling was spot on . All very good and a generous portion. 😊 😋

We called on spec and we're squeezed in. Had to wait for food but was well worth it. Great service, beautiful, warm, Christmas feel.

Mains; Rump of Lamb, dauphine potatoes, mushrooms, parsnip, kale cabbage, port jus. Steak and Ale pie, chips, carrots, brocoli and courgettes. Dessert; Chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce and strawberry ice-cream. Raspberry cheese cake, honey comb and raspberry sorbet. Drinks; 2 x Pints of Lime sodas 1 x Amaretto and cola 1 x Pimms and lemonade 1 x Glass of red Merlot wine 1 x Archers peach and lemonade Every dish was delightful, pleasantly and perfectly cooked. I've dined a lot at various places and this pub is on an upper level with their culinary skills. I would have expected to pay more for the food and was pleasantly surprised.

Steak was top notch and much cheaper than you would expect. And a great place to hang out.

10/10 on food and service, lovely charming pub and the food is top quality we ordered two steaks and they were both cooked to perfection and very large portions will definitely make this our local now

We enjoyed a lovely meal with our friends. My Pork Loin was excellent and my wife's Steak Pie was a truly good pie. The puds were pretty good as well!

Went for lunch on a Saturday on the spur of the moment. We were accommodated without a problem but would strongly recommend booking in advance. Food was excellent as always, this place has a great reputation which is highly deserved.

Had a lovely few drinks and a meal here. The specials were amazing as was the service! Highly recommended and will definitely be back next time in the area.

From booking a table in advance to the meal itself nothing could be better. At all times we felt welcomed. The Sunday roast beef meal was perfection. Absolutely nothing left on the plate, vegetables perfectly cooked, the traditional yorkshire pudding. Service was spot on. Only problem is it is 150 miles from home

This was our first visit after a recommendation and we weren’t disappointed. I’m a bit of a steak and ale pie expert and wow it was fabulous. Husband had the fish and chips and he said it was excellent. Very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Sat in the beer garden as we had 2 dogs and they were made welcome aswell. Will be returning soon x

We arrived without a reservation on a busy Sunday lunchtime. Despite our needs being small - no roast dinner wanted - they found somewhere for us to sit. They were as welcoming as if we'd ordered two dinners. Very nice outside seating area too. Food really nice and another time we'll have more!

Terrific food, great quality short rib, attention to detail immaculate. Steaks not only cooked perfectly and great cuts, but massive too. Desserts delicious. Wine lovely and not overpriced. Service pretty much perfect, not over fussy but attentive and careful. The whole place gave the vibe of a restaurant that takes its food very seriously, but doesn’t take itself too seriously. Would recommend 100%.

Arguably one of the best if not the best Sunday lunches in North Yorkshire. Also very reasonably priced. They do their beef nice and pink.

Literally called on the off chance and they managed to squeeze us in for a table for 2 towards the end of the day. So glad they did as the whole experience was a memorable one. Excellent service. Food was top notch and would recommend to anyone.

Lovely upmarket pub for higher end pub grub cooked to a very high standard. Modest selection of draft beers but all kept well. Very attentive and pleasant staff.

Stopped on the off chance they do food after a day out. Lucky for us, they were!Beautiful setting. Roaring fire, which was very welcome. Great value food, which was delicious. Two ciabattas with home made chips and chutney for less than £20-amazing. Lovely, friendly staff and atmosphere. Highly recommend. Gorgeous country pub less than 10 minutes off the A64.

Visited last night for the first time , on recommendation drove 30 miles to try the food WOW absolutely fantastic highly recommended the ribeye steak and beef starter was delicious, I eat out a lot all over the place , this is probably in my top 3 rating as good as Michelin star venues ..well done to all very friendly staff too .

Friendly, communicative and helpful staff. Great food and service. We were here for Sunday lunch as a party of 7. I had roast beef, which was out of this world. My friends shared the same sentiment with their food. They have black sheep on tap too. An added bonus! Oh, and the zero alcohol Adnams was great too. Cannot wait to revisit.

We called in the Blacksmiths Arms for lunch on my partners birthday. Everything was perfect. From the welcome, the delightful staff and the delicious food. Cannot praise it enough. Lovely log fire in pleasant surroundings. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely fabulous. Best Sunday Lunch I have had in a long time. Couldn’t resist starter and pudding either. Very good value. The staff were polite and attentive. What a hidden gem. Even though they were full, the meal came out quickly and hot.

Great country pub in Westow, warm and cozy ( log burner) glowing, after a cold and windy Sunday walk at Bulmer! Staff we're all friendly and welcoming, even though we only stopped for drinks! Loved it so much, we booked a table for Sunday Lunch in a few weeks time.

The Blacksmiths Arms is everything a pub should be! We visited here on a recommendation with friends and we were delighted with the service and food, very comfortable surroundings and amazing steaks. We visit the pub as we have friends in the village and every time we do, we get so jealous that they have such an exceptional pub on their doorstep. The service is brilliant, the atmosphere is great and the food is amazing. There are cheaper pubs out there but treat yourself, you won't regret it !!

We went for Sunday lunch to celebrate a 4th birthday. The food was really good (the roast beef I had was great), vegetables you can taste and bite, plus flavoursome gravey. No room for a dessert, but the others did 😀

We stayed as a group of 10 (hired the Cottage and Owners apartment) arriving on the Friday night we had booked this restaurant for dinner. The menu was so extensive we only doubled up on 1 dish, everyone else had something different and every one...

My wife and I ate here last night and had a fantastic meal after having done the wine tasting at Ryedale Vineyard. All the staff were so lovely and helpful. The food was truly excellent; a generous scotch egg starter, impressive steak and delicious sticky toffee pudding. I would highly recommend!

Had a lovely lunch here, a tempting and varied sandwich menu, all the salad and chips satisfied our needs, but a fuller menu is also available, great atmosphere, friendly staff, what's not to like.

What a fabulous find. The staff were really lovely from arrival. The food was absolutely gorgeous. I had Bellypork my husband had 16oz sirloin, both cooked to perfection. We're staying at Griffon forest lodges so it's only 6 miles..around 10-15 min drive, absolutely worth it. Definitely going again. I've read reviews about long waiting times, but we did not wait any longer than you would expect a fresh cooked meal to take. I always say if somewhere does homemade chips then it's not a 5 minute ping job. Also on that note...proper homemade chips, not those awful 'rustic' chips which are basically deep fried wedges.

On this occasion, we were very disappointed. Not with the food, but by the delay of two hours to have our meal delivered to the table, and issues with the bill at the end. In fairness to them, the staff did tell us, after us seeing no food being delivered from the kitchen for an hour and a half, that they were a chef down. Not our usual experience here. Hope they're resolved issues as we do want to support small businesses.

The best Sunday lunch we have had for a long time. I had Pork my partner had lamb, both were cooked to perfection. Service, surroundings everything was just perfect!

We headed for this venue as we found chum on twitter visits the same restaurants that we do.The website looks appealing so we booked sunday lunchWe arrived and shown immediately to our table and would we like to order - StrangeWe asked if we could see the menu as it was our first visit, they arrived then we were left for 15 minutes without anyone asking for a drinks order, we again asked for drinks and wine list - a drinks sheet came over no wine so after 15 further minutes we asked a server over, to consider an order - and if they serve wines....Once the drinks arrive a pleasant older lady came over to take an order, no mention of specials so we ordered a medium beef and lamb sunday lunch.When the food arrived it was plonked down and no checking to see if all was okay. We found the beef under cooked - certainly blue side of rare, the veg were cold.When someone did come over we had waited so long we just finished off paid and went off to another venue for a drink - review coming to see where we went.No convinced we would return

Stayed in Westow for a weekend and were so glad we booked here. The food was delicious and amazing quality. We had the fillet steak and the lamb rump. Everything on the plate, from the meat to the vegetables and sauces, tasted fantastic. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly even though it was busy and there was such a warm atmosphere. We will look forward to eating here again next time we’re in the area. Thank you!
