Food very good. Plentyfull, and hot. Definitely recommend. BUT … all this was spoilt by the £100 parking charge we were left with a week later, from parking on the Derwent car park. You would have thought that a member of staff would’ve informed their patrons about putting car reg into their system on arrival. NOT HAPPY 😡 *EDIT* The problem regarding the parking fine has been taken care off by the Derwent arms management in a timely manner, very professional and much appreciated, definitely going back

We called in for some lunch midweek , greeted by a warm friendly guy called Simon. We were given a menu an asked to order at the bar when we ready. We ordered the homemade fish & chips and chicken strips with a gravy jug on the side and skin on fries. The food was piping hot & delicious. My friend had the hand pulled real ales Timothy Taylor’s I just had a soft drink as was driving. The pub is spotlessly clean, welcoming & dog friendly. What a big difference these landlords have made to the pub we shall be visiting more often 😊👌

Poor experience. Went for lunch as two. The pub was very quiet and we was the first to order yet we waited an hour for food. When the food came the chips were overcooked frozen chips which came with both the dishes, gammon and southern fried chicken platter. The southern fried chicken tasted like flour, the hunter chicken was not hunters chicken very dry and had tomato sauce on it? And the chicken wings had very weirdly tasting cheap bbq sauce on them and the beans looked like they had been in the microwave for 5 hours. The gammon was burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. Both meals were inedible. Very disappointing, made Wetherspoons look like a Michelin star restaurant. We don’t usually write reviews however felt like this one was needed.

After a very long wait (at least 45 minutes) the food arrived. It was not brilliant, but adequate. I contacted The Derwent Arms to see if they had availability to host a christening reception after my daughter’s baptism. Simon, Charlie, and their amazing team went the extra mile to ensure the pub was ready for all my family and friends to celebrate. From decorations to laying out the buffet, they made sure my vision came true. My family and friends were greeted with a warm welcome by the staff and directed to the private area where the reception was being held. The pub also has wheelchair access and a disabled toilet, which was great as this was needed for some guests, and most pubs in the area don’t have either of these. All in all, I couldn’t be happier with how the day turned out. A very big thank you to Simon, Charlie, and their wonderful team. I will definitely be using this establishment for any future events!

I had the mixed grill, my husband had the garlic and stilton burger and my mother had the gammon all of which was really good. The pub is dog friendly which is a welcomed amenity. The car park has plenty of space for patrons which is also appreciated. The food is excellent and offers great value for money. The desserts were also excellent. We had ice cream Sundays and I had the cookie dough which was divine and I would actually call in for just this and a drink it was so good. Collectively our bill was about £70 and that was for 3 main courses, 3 desserts and 6 drinks. I shall most definitely be returning to the Derwent in the near future.

The beef dinner came with frozen veg which was tasteless, frozen Yorkshire puddings and dry stuffing, they missed the cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets that were ordered. The Yorkshire pudding was cold. I left feeling hungry, my partners pie was meant to come with peas, they didn’t come out with the meal but did come some 5 minutes later. We had hoped to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary at a different hotel, and had been badly let down. I'm sure the Derwent Arms would be the first to admit that they are not great for the quiet romantic candlelit dinner ambience, but once we had "switched gear", we found the Derwent Arms warm, hospitable and welcoming, with a vibrant and lively family / sport atmosphere, and friendly, helpful staff. The food was first rate. Not the evening we'd looked for (and that's no fault of The Derwent Arms), but an excellent evening nevertheless.

first off i had read the bad reviews and thought surely not but yes definitely trust the reviews on this place and do not bother wasting your time or money going here!! when me and my partner walked in we weren’t even greeted nicely by what i’m assuming is the owner, he didn’t even say hello just stared at us until we got to the bar. then he said with great rudeness and bluntness towards my partner “are you underage” then when we both said no, as i’m aware i do look younger than i am too, he replied again very rudely and snappy “prove it”. i couldn’t tell if he was joking or not but clearly not by the look on his face. he then walked off and told one of the girls to check our ID whilst he muttered rude comments under his breath about us. then after not wanting to check our id’s he asks the young girls behind the bar what our date of births were and continued to make comments such as “looking like that”. from the 20 seconds of being in there and ordering our drinks i will never return, he needs a lesson in customer service and needs to be more strict on the children working behind the bar than the customers that pay for his awful place to still be open.

We booked a table last week for 2 adults an 1 child for today (Sunday 19th June 2022). We arrived early for drinks and told them our name, they was no booking with our name. We had to find table which we did. We ordered the Sunday roast dinner we were told we would be waiting upto 50 minutes. We waited about 20 minutes and our food arrived. The food was barely warm at best. I informed the landlord who took our plates away. He came back within 10 minutes stating our plates have been in the oven warming up. (Yeah right, more like they were nuked in microwave). Food was hotter than before. Oh yes the food. Yorkshire puddings were cheap frozen kind as were the roast potatoes which were deep fried. The veg was ok but the mash potatoes were under seasoned. The chef missed a MASSIVE trick. The beef was the rump, which is fatty. So why not roast the beef, use the fat for REAL roast potatoes and cook his OWN Yorkshire puddings. After the plates were taken away, i ordered our desserts then a fat bald drunk man came to our table and asked about our dinner. He told us he doesn't work here he just drinks here. So we entertained him by saying it was ok. He was using bad language and apologised but kept swearing. He eventually staggered away. Our desserts. Childs ice cream sundae Eton mess Sticky toffee pudding. Sundae and toffee puddings were ok. The Eton mess however was made with ice cream, no fresh cream hardly no meringue and hardly no fruit. We got up and left no member of staff said bye even the landlord & landlady whom we walked past didn't say bye. Malton is the food capital of Yorkshire. Such a pity this pub can't live upto that reputation. Not a family orientated pub. We have no intentions to go back even though we live in the area.

Great meal, with great service, couldn't really fault it or the place and staff, and unlike a lot of eatery's around this area it didn't cost an arm and leg either.

The bakery department made me two amazing Tiramisu Roulades today for a bonfire bbq, they were amazing to look at and delicious to taste. Thank you for going above and beyond for a very happy customer

We visited mid week for an evening meal, we received a lovely warm welcome from the staff and shown to our table straightaway. Service was excellent and the food was amazing, especially the Baileys Bread and Butter pudding with vanilla custard! The food is well priced for the quality, we definitely need to visit again before we go home.
