Since Charlie and Simon taken over. Derwent Arms has become such a delightful place to come and enjoy a drink, music, food and amphoshere. They really have turned the pub around. The food is amazing and quick service too. Its family and dog friendly. So I highly recommend this establishment to all far and near.

The new menu is amazing and not overpriced. i’ve been 3 times now and will definitely be returning again. i had the burger every time which has been consistent and the chips compliment it perfectly. i’ve tried the any 3 bar snacks for £15.99 which we’re definitely worth it. we had crispy prawns and mozzarella sticks which were delicious. we also had the nachos which in my opinion needed a bit of salt but we’re still very nice. my dad had the steak and ale pie which he said was lovely and other family members have thoroughly enjoyed the hunters chicken, sausage+mash and mushroom+tarragon pudding. can’t wait to go back to try the calamari, fish and chips, lasagne, onion rings….and many more items they haven on the menu. disappointed i haven’t tried a dessert yet as they sound amazing, the burger has filled me up every time which is great though as we haven’t ended up spending too much money!

I visited the Derwent arms yesterday for lunch with my husband and mother. I had the mixed grill, my husband had the garlic and stilton burger and my mother had the gammon all of which was really good. The pub is dog friendly which is a welcomed amenity. The car park has plenty of space for patrons which is also appreciated. The food is excellent and offers great value for money. The desserts were also excellent. We had ice cream Sundays and I had the cookie dough which was divine and I would actually call in for just this and a drink it was so good. Collectively our bill was about £70 and that was for 3 main courses, 3 desserts and 6 drinks. I shall most definitely be returning to the Derwent in the near future.

Was recommended this pub for lunch, unfortunately our experience wasn’t so pleasant. Waited 50 minutes for two meals. One been a beef roast dinner and one been a pie and the trimmings. The beef dinner came with frozen veg which was tasteless, frozen Yorkshire puddings and dry stuffing, they missed the cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets that were ordered. The Yorkshire pudding was cold. I left feeling hungry, my partners pie was meant to come with peas, they didn’t come out with the meal but did come some 5 minutes later. Definitely wasn’t worth the £27 bill. However the two girls serving were lovely and very friendly. Lovely looking pub, such a shame the food was terrible.

We had hoped to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary at a different hotel, and had been badly let down. I'm sure the Derwent Arms would be the first to admit that they are not great for the quiet romantic candlelit dinner ambience, but once we had "switched gear", we found the Derwent Arms warm, hospitable and welcoming, with a vibrant and lively family / sport atmosphere, and friendly, helpful staff. The food was first rate. Not the evening we'd looked for (and that's no fault of The Derwent Arms), but an excellent evening nevertheless.

first off i had read the bad reviews and thought surely not but yes definitely trust the reviews on this place and do not bother wasting your time or money going here!! when me and my partner walked in we weren’t even greeted nicely by what i’m assuming is the owner, he didn’t even say hello just stared at us until we got to the bar. then he said with great rudeness and bluntness towards my partner “are you underage” then when we both said no, as i’m aware i do look younger than i am too, he replied again very rudely and snappy “prove it”. i couldn’t tell if he was joking or not but clearly not by the look on his face. he then walked off and told one of the girls to check our ID whilst he muttered rude comments under his breath about us. then after not wanting to check our id’s he asks the young girls behind the bar what our date of births were and continued to make comments such as “looking like that”. from the 20 seconds of being in there and ordering our drinks i will never return, he needs a lesson in customer service and needs to be more strict on the children working behind the bar than the customers that pay for his awful place to still be open.

We booked a table last week for 2 adults an 1 child for today (Sunday 19th June 2022). We arrived early for drinks and told them our name, they was no booking with our name. We had to find table which we did. We ordered the Sunday roast dinner we were told we would be waiting upto 50 minutes. We waited about 20 minutes and our food arrived. The food was barely warm at best. I informed the landlord who took our plates away. He came back within 10 minutes stating our plates have been in the oven warming up. (Yeah right, more like they were nuked in microwave). Food was hotter than before. Oh yes the food. Yorkshire puddings were cheap frozen kind as were the roast potatoes which were deep fried. The veg was ok but the mash potatoes were under seasoned. The chef missed a MASSIVE trick. The beef was the rump, which is fatty. So why not roast the beef, use the fat for REAL roast potatoes and cook his OWN Yorkshire puddings. After the plates were taken away, i ordered our desserts then a fat bald drunk man came to our table and asked about our dinner. He told us he doesn't work here he just drinks here. So we entertained him by saying it was ok. He was using bad language and apologised but kept swearing. He eventually staggered away. Our desserts. Childs ice cream sundae Eton mess Sticky toffee pudding. Sundae and toffee puddings were ok. The Eton mess however was made with ice cream, no fresh cream hardly no meringue and hardly no fruit. We got up and left no member of staff said bye even the landlord & landlady whom we walked past didn't say bye. Malton is the food capital of Yorkshire. Such a pity this pub can't live upto that reputation. Not a family orientated pub. We have no intentions to go back even though we live in the area.

Visited on our way to Scarborough for half-term. There was only us and 2 other couples in the pub. It was advertised as kids eat for £1. The young lad behind the bar (?Callum) couldn't find the button on the till so went to ask the chef if the offer was on, he came back and said it was but still couldn't find the button to reduce it so went to ask his manager. Callum came back and said he still couldn't find the button so we would have to pay full price. In the end after refusing to pay more than the advertised £1, we got the kids meals for free. Kids meals were average - pizza was a good size. The burger was dry. I had the steak and mushroom baguette, upgraded to have skin on fries. When this came the skin was "missing" on the fries so i asked what had happened to be told that they had no skin on fries!! Surely i could have been told this upon ordering?!! When leaving, there were a couple more people in the pub. One appeared to be the manager. We walked passed the staff but were not thanked or any parting comments. Characterless plastic pub, much nicer local pubs in Malton. For a town renowned for its food it was a very basic menu with nothing exciting and nothing that screamed local. Seemed like pre-made meals like you'd expect in a spoons but more expensive. Feel sorry for the kitchen staff. Not the best choices behind the bar, seemed like a weird atmosphere inside too. Was visiting Malton with friends and left disappointed. Bar staff were friendly, but apparently they had only just re-opened.

Bad pub. There are much nicer ones in town. The drinks were warm, the service was slow. The menu was not friendly to anyone who wants to be aware of ingredients or allergies. In a food centered town like Malton I would expect better from the owners. The chefs do a great job but they are running around screaming and yelling and the food isn't local. You can't get enough sauce from the couple of packets that you get already at the table.

The staff and management couldn't be more helpful, polite, good and efficient service. Staff and clientelle both friendly and a good atmosphere. It has been done up to a high standard and is under new management. We didn't eat but the food being served looked good and I will definitely be going back for a meal another time. I have seen the review of 1 for someone who has just taken over and following current guideline rules, seems more than harsh. After a couple of drinks decided to have food. Menu what you would expect from a pub with a few unusual additions. I ordered lasagne and my friend just had soup. Service was efficient and good and food arrived promptly. Apparently the soup was good, but I can honestly say the home cooked lasagne was one of the best I have ever had, DELICIOUS! Would definitely recommend and will be back soon. There were a few negative reviews previous to this lockdown, but ignore, the new management have have upped the game. Well worth the visit.

So after being regular in this pub before the takeover for the odd drink and more so for food which used to be fabulous and plentiful what can i say now its been sold.So arrived at 12noon on December 16th with a table booked. I want to note that apart from one member of staff no one else was in. So we went to our table and sat down, the lady took our drinks order of two pints of cola, one half cold and 1 larger and lime. The drinks arrived at 12.10pm and no larger and lime we somehow ended off with lemonade. It went back and the correct drink came at the same time she took out food order. 1 x fish and chips. 1 x hunters chicken. 2 x steak pie and chips. Now remember only us in the food came along at 1.15pm that 1hr 15mins wait for 4 meals. The worst thing is that we never got told our food was going to be a while. We never got a sorry or nothing. The total bill was £50 yup £50.The fish was the thinnest ive ever seen and by thin i mean like 1/2inch thick. The pie was nice however the pastry was really really hard if i dropped it from leg height it would still be in full tact. The hunters chicken came with half a plate of salad which looked nice the chicken was covered in cheese. Under tge cheese was the bacon and a really salty barbecue sauce. My grandmother ate the salad and chips and couldn't eat the chicken that was dry as.When the old owners had it the service was great, the food was great and plentiful and was £35-£40 normally for 4 drinks n 4 meals. Now you get less food but for a bigger price. It was ok but would not rush back. If they cant get a service right with only a group of 4 people then if its busy (about 40 food covers) how on earth are they gonna cope. If they after 30mins had only come over and let us know what is going on i would not of been putting shabby service here. Would i recommend it to you - if things yea but make sure you have 2 or 3 hours because you are gonna need it.
