Called in today for Sunday lunch. Great traditional pub with lovely food, big portions and friendly staff.

Not a fan of Frozen chips🤦‍♂️ Nothing special., very limited menu. Too much trouble for an extra pot of gravy 😂. I wouldn’t return.

This is a great locals pub that makes the visitor feel welcome. Two friends and I decided to spend a long weekend in Pickering. There are a handful of gastro pubs and The Bay Horse is by far the most traditional. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel really welcome. There is a good selection of beers and bottled drinks....the bar staff Richie, Robbo and Jess were great fun as was the licencee Clare. Come closing time we ended up with some of them in a late night wine bar venue. Certainly a place to visit if your in Pickering.

Of the handful of pubs in Pickering The Bay Horse is the most traditional. It's very much a locals pub that makes the visitor welcome too. The bar staff Richie, Robbo and Jess and Clare the licencee were really friendly and welcoming. We went in to every pub and were just treated as another customer, however, the staff and customers in The Bay Horse made us feel proper welcome. It's well worth a visit if you in Pickering and has a great selection of beers and bottles.

My wife and I dropped into The Bay Horse just for drinks on a lazy afternoon in Pickering. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The Guinness and Lager were great as was the price. We were talking to some regular customers who recommended that we should try the Steak and Ale pie as it was both good quality and a very generous portion. Subsequently on a return visit we opted for a few drinks and ordered the Steak and Ale Pie. We found the pie to be great. It was made with local ingredients very tasty, a good sized portion and value for money. We will definitely return when back in the area.

Paid £16 for a chicken dinner, which would be eye wateringly high even if it was amazing, but it wasn't. Believe me. One tiny roast potato (hidden under the veg) watery "gravy", a tiny scoop of mash and a few carrots and broccoli. 16 quid. Absolutely amazing.

Staff were very welcoming and chatty, food was good with decent prices. Great find on holiday.

Low prices. OK generally. Two draught beers plus cask.

Lovely pub and friendly helpful staff, dog friendly, our dogs Jack and Maisie highly recommend the sausages 😀, we will definitely be back when we are in Pickering again.

I was really quite shocked at the way we were greeted here. Before we even explained that we had booked a table the young lady at the door couldn't have made us feel more unwelcome. We had booked a table for 6.45 but were told they had stopped serving even though the sign outside also said they served until 7. I understand the kitchen may close early for one reason or another and that wasn't an issue but the way the lady treated and spoke to us was truly shocking. I understand that people have off days, we were visiting town under sad circumstances also so this really caused further upset. It may be that it is a pub not families or just for locals we weren't told either way just made to feel really small. We had travelled a long way and were really looking forward to trying here as had read and heard really good things.

Lovely pub, nice drink selection. We ordered 5 meals and 2 people ordered the curry I think the madras or the hotter one. It was mega disappointing it tasted like salsa. It really wasn’t good at all. The other meals were nice though , we had loaded nachos, the calamari and prawns and a nachos with his cheese and garlic.

Nice Sunday lunch. I only ordered the small one and there was plenty of food. A couple of real ales on. The one I tried (Bradfield Farmers Blonde) was well kept.

excellent food super service would recommend to anybody ate here for the three nights we stayed because it was so good will go back agian if we stay in pickeing

Friendly service here and decent food and price's...nice Squid rings and butterfly prawns! The pub has outside seating in a yard at the back which is quite adequate for a relaxing drink and meal..inside is welcoming also.

Atmosphere was good lots to do in there

Do not eat here hair in kids food and bugs on salad staff are a complete joke also rather rude when we complained and asked for a number of any of us get sick not recommended at all !!!!!!! Also do not have ice at all!!!!!!

Have just been for a family meal with 8 of us very little on menu as ran out of a lot of things , got BBQ chicken wings to find a hair in the chicken , also salad on my plate had a bug moving along plate , manager wasn't very good for apologizing to us and to take complaint on board , family still had food left on plate and left , would not recommend at ALL, food 0 , manger 0 for review

We had steak and ale pie two with chips one with mash and mushy peas. And a chilli con carnery and rice they were all lovely and hot,and quite big portions. The staff were friendly and welcoming. You can take dogs in this pub I would recommend going here

Came in to watch semi of football and front room was full but not heaving. Very nice couple of gins and Daz happy as there was Black Sheep 🐑 😀 Great atmosphere when we won!

Pop in this pub for a couple of drinks and had a really good time, beer was excellent. Decided to book a table the following night for dinner. We both opted for the Steak and Ale pie, very good decision indeed. We enjoyed a fantastic, home prepared and cooked pie. Loaded with steak, which was absolutely delicious, cooked with local ale too. All for very reasonable prices with friendly service to boot. Heartily recommend this place if you're in Pickering for a drink and bite to eat.

Called in, as a tourist, for a late lunch. Extremely pleased. The food was excellent - good old fashioned pub grub favourites. I’ve got to mention the steak and ale pie. Homemade and to die for. Highly recommended.

We found The Bay Horse Inn by accident whilst on a short break in Pickering and oh, what a find! The food was excellent quality, the service friendly, whilst the prices gave real value. The Bay Horse Inn is a proper old pub with an amazing history that’s being give a new lease of life by Clare and her team. My steak & ale pie was delicious. My wife had fried squid with butterfly king prawns and salad which she really enjoyed. The pub has a warm, friendly atmosphere and the prices provide real value. We got a table straight away and the food arrived quickly. This pub puts other, so called ‘upmarket’ restaurant’s to shame - some can’t even be bothered to open until the weekend!! Would have no hesitation going there again for a lovely dinner. Thanks Clare you made our day.

This is the second time we have visited The Bay Horse when over in Pickering and just as last time, we had a lovely lunch. Food is really good and the lady who served us was really friendly. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Should have been a hot chicken dinner. Mash was cold, stuffing was even colder probably from fridge. A tiny amount of gravy was served between two of us and told there was no more when I asked.

Nice place this. Right on Pickering main street. Easy to find. Park right outside of at the Co op car park. Friendly staff senisble prices. Food was very good. Well worth a visit. Would recommend and would go again. Does get busy on sat night though.

Came here previously, and looks like the pub has a massive staff turnover often! Visited a few times and there’s always been a nice female or male on the bar who is always welcoming! The individual who brought our food out basically chucked the food down on the table Unfortunately this time the Food was appalling, chilli had no taste and was microwaved within its life with cling film still on the dish. The gammon was chewy and over cooked along with the chips. My daughter had a long black hair in her food. We didn’t finish the meal and decided to leave instantly and went to a cafe instead The glasses we received with drinks were disgusting, and looked like they weren’t washed properly! Bar staff was an oldish lady who we hadn’t seen on our previous visit, making very rude gestures to an individual sat at the bar. The language we heard from her in the restaurant was disgusting and I didn’t appreciate my family having to listen! Spoke highly of the pub until today it was all very unprofessional, turns out the bar staff was the landlady… the pub was brilliant a couple of months ago and its a shame it’s gone down hill since then. Unfortunately I will not be returning with my family again. You would have thought if the landlady had so much staff to choose from to be able to have staff turnovers so often that the staff would be fully trained in cleaning glasses and serving edible food!

Hands down the worst meal I have ever had. First of all, the guy behind the bar forgot what we had ordered 30 mins after our original order. The waitresses were underage and had no clue how to serve people. There was a guy being sick in the corner from his chewy gammon. And they started blasting music out during our meal. The woman next to me informed the waitresses that it was the worst meal she had ever had too. Chips were overdone. Beef baguette was cheap thin slices of meat with a hard baguette roll.

Sorry but the food we had was very poor, I had gammon that was more like bacon, small thin and burnt underneath. My girlfriend had lasagne that was well over cooked and no chips . And that took an hour. Won't be going back.

Pub that undersells itself. Food was great, flavours in the lasagne and korma curry were top notch. Service could not be faulted. Very good selection of drinks

Have added to my places to go. Claire was very friendly and attentive - bringing toys out for our granddaughter. Beer was excellent and the Chilli off the specials menu was brilliant at a ridiculously low price. Full portion of chilli and my half and half chips/rice was incredible as either portion was more than adequate. Will definitely be going again at our next Pikering visit.

Food - Food for when your drunk, thats all this is. The food was bland and dull but was overall okay. The chilli was as flavourful as water and full of mince with little to no beans or other ingredients. All in all the food here isnt great but its what you expect from pub food and isnt going to be top-notch. Service - The service was okay and the food came quickly. Complaints - There was a few flys around as well as the overall place being a little unclean.

Had such a good night on Saturday! Elvis and karaoke was the best surprise after looking for a lively bar in Pickering! :)

Have just visited on 3.2.24 we had the steak pie and scampi both came with chips ! The portion sizes are massive for the price and the pie was huge and stuffed with meat. We have hand pull pint wich was lovely ! We will defo be returning on our next trip.

Away for a long weekend nearby. Came across this lovely gem of a pub while scouting the area for somewhere to have Sunday lunch. Stopped for a drink (group of 6), lovely atmosphere, staff & place! Real fire & a good choice of tunes from the jukebox made it that bit better! Returned the next day and very much enjoyed our Sunday lunch. Tasty Chicken, roasties, Yorkie, mash & plenty of veg. Can't complain at all! Claire and the team were great and we all would definitely return when in the area.

Called in for a pint of Thatchers whilst shopping . Quite a busy pub in the town centre. Lovely log fire in front room to warm up with . A few customers eating food so went into large back bar with Juke Box and pool...

My boyfriend and I visited on Friday. He had fish and chips and I had the cheeseburger. He said that the fish was cold throughout, and the dry, oven chips were not any better. My burger looked like a frozen one, the cheese was like plastic and the bun was falling apart and stale. The chips were cold and neither of our salads looked appetizing. Nearly £20 per meal. Left feeling quite unwell, and will not be returning. So so disappointing.

Absolutely will never return! They had no idea if they were serving food or not, should of been a red flag. Scallops & black pudding starter came with prawns, no one informed us that would be the case & we specifically ordered for the scallops....

Terrible Pub, Barman looked really scruffy and was unbelievably rude and unwelcoming, moaned when I wanted to pay cash for our drinks, very abruptly told me I hope you don't want to eat kitchen is closed, and was generally unpleasant, as was the surroundings, atmosphere....

The fantastic smell of home-cooked cuisine and the ambience of a good ol' fashioned Yorkshire Inn hit us as soon as we entered. We enjoyed a fabulous meal and a smashing pint of Black Sheep. The kids food was not processed like in some places....

Went there twice on our 3 night break in Pickering. Can't recommend highly enough. Good food washed down with a pint or two of Farmer's Blonde. Definitely be back.

Absolutely amazing! An old traditional pub in the middle of pickering. With some really interesting history. Great atmosphere! Amazing home made food! Fabulous and friendly bar staff! Good value for money! Really worth supporting them if you are around that area.

This place used to do a brilliant Sunday lunch but has clearly changed hands … 5 of us went for a treat (my elderly dad was paying) and it was the worst food I have ever been served by a very long way. Rubbery half...

We arrived early for lunch and were greeted by friendly and helpful staff, one of whom was learning the ropes. We had the 'special' - a chicken wrap with choice of sauce, chips and shared a tub of coleslaw on the side. As we are from West Somerset we were particularly pleased that Thatchers Gold was available. The chips were amongst the best ever - wraps needed a bit more salad but other than that a good experience and a good place.

Friendly pub with delicious home made food on the menu. Dog friendly and nice choice of lager and guest beers. Pie was full of well cooked and tender beef and onion gravy but a bit runny if poured onto plate but very tasty. Would have preferred to see shortcrust pastry instead of puffed but that's just a personal preference

We just called in for a couple of drinks, had a good natter with a few folk. They also serve a cracking well kept pint of farmers blonde.

Waited an hour and half….no apologises, 4 out of 5 meals arrived….waited a further 10 mins for the last!!!! All luke warm and barely edible….CHEAP NASTY BURGERS…..I’d pay £4 for one at a fair, not these prices…… All in all the Worst experience I’ve had!!!!!! AVOID PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Visited the Bay Inn whilst visiting Pickering on holiday. From the initial barked comment of" you don't want food do you?" as we entered and reached the bar the tone was set... This pub has a prime location, unfortunately once inside there was a distinct lack of customer thought or care which was really disappointing. We gave the pub the benefit of the doubt as the barman seemed to be the sole worker and ordered more drinks which were expertly mixed. On reflection, the pub could not only do with more staff but also some TLC to bring in the punters. Wouldn't visit this pub again.

Where to start! On arrival, had a table for dinner in the snug area of the bar, which was fine. Then, it all went wrong. Scruffy guy served us at the bar, no personality for visitors. Ordered food which was way over priced for what we received. Hubby ordered the Shepard’s pie which was like pulp, with mashed potato slopped on the side. I ordered quiche with salad. I assume that’s what was served. It looked like quiche but wouldn’t have through it. It looked like it had dried out with a burnt chip on-top (obviously an added extra, not ordered) Don’t get me started on the drinks. Glass of Prosecco £9.50 not even a decent brand. This is London prices, defo not London service. Honestly, this place was a joke. NOT RECOMMENDED.

We drove up from the South and liked the look of the Bay Horse Inn, so decided to go in and have a meal… where we were “lucky” enough to be met by a scruffy rude barman, he did not answer my greeting, but when I asked whether they did food, he replied ‘yes unfortunately!’ Suffice to say, we left.

Great food and drink. I love steak and ale pie and have eaten quite a few in the last 60 years. The one at the Bay Horse was easily the best as well as the biggest and the staff are really friendy.

Brilliant pub great staff qand drink. Me and my brother in law stayed 3 nights at the forest of vale and went in all 3 nights really made us feel welcomed.

Just discovered, the following evening, that I was charged for 3 cheese sandwiches at £8.95 each when I only had 2. The ham sandwich that was also purchased was inedible so had to be returned and exchanged for another filling. Sandwiches made with poor quality sliced bread, small salad and greasy crisps nothing special, drink prices on par with other pubs I suppose.

Never ever complain but this place has pushed me over the edge! Service and food was absolutely discusting. We had to pay in advance as table tabs not allowed, waited just under an hour for 4 meals and when the food finally arrived it was too embarrassing to even take a photo. Instead of saying the kitchen is busy are you OK to wait, they take your money in advance and eventually deliver you stone cold slop. VERY VERY poor with absolutely no excuse.
