Disappointed with half a cup full of coffee, that was pretty much milk . I love this place , it's such a treat when we go to whitby but the staff seem a little too young to be working there maybe. Coffees are so expensive these days it's nice to enjoy a treat without leaving it

We went down to the nursery on Malton Road for some plants and decided to go here for lunch as we knew Pickering was busy. I looked at the menu and as I am on a strict diet there was nothing I could have except a jacket potato. My husband had the chicken burger and chips. The jacket potato with baked beans was bland. We ordered a pot of tea for two and it was fresh and hot. Our food was just plonked onto the table with a young waiter hurrying away no offer of any sauces and then the cutlery arrived. On the way out we went into the farm shop. We were very surprised to see a couple walk in with a big German shepherd dog so left immediately. The lady serving was friendly.

My daughter and I brought her two children over today to pick a pumpkin. We called for lunch first in the cafe, it was extremely busy and we had to wait until the chef had checked what food was left! We eventually chose bacon and sausage sandwiches ….. oh my word they were to die for! 3 of their own large farm sausages in a big bread bun and three rashers of bacon!! Then we went to the pumpkin field, there is a castle made of hay bales with the turrets made of the round bales. The kids loved it! They had to choose a large pumpkin to carve tomorrow. We called into the shop and I bought two packs of their own sausage for my freezer. Then back into the cafe for coffee and cake. What a fabulous day we had, great food and fantastic friendly staff.

Just been pumpkin picking after family and friends visited and recommended it to me as they were only charging £2.50 for good sized pumpkins last weekend. I've just been and for a smaller sized one to what my family got they charged me £8. We questioned it and they just said ohh well they were lucky. Not great

Breakfast OK but average x over priced for what it is. Sausages were definitely not home made farm produce x deep fried Richmond type Sausages. Farm shops have a chance to display their produce so a shame they didn't use this opportunity in the cafe. Looked around farm shop after x produce looked past its best x over priced too

Used to come here regularly, but when it expanded for the tourists, I stopped going. However, went today with a friend. Asked for a latte and an oat milk cappuccino (not out of choice, may I add) Please invest in a new coffee machine! One that makes proper coffees. Couldn't do one due to the machine being pre filled with semi skimmed milk. Americano and cold oat milk, ok, but didn't hold the heat as milk was so cold. Offered to put in microwave, which I accepted! Beans on toast, good though. Although toast could have been buttered, this café isn't alone on that though.

Called in twice within days of both visits, had breakfast first time which was okay but could have been a bit hotter. Coffee was rubbish and tepid. Not sure if the lad who brought our order over was happy to be there, he put my partners breakfast down watched the toast slide of the plate onto the table and walked off. Not very customer focused 2nd visit we had lunch, very limited choice and no specials board up 1.30pm. We opted for a toasted sandwich cheese was the only option. Very basic nothing to write home about. Very expensive menu for what you get. Seems quite disorganised with everyone doing everything but achieving nothing. No cutlery given, table sauce selection empty etc. Butchers dept is nice but again very expensive.

We stopped off here to break up our journey to the coast. The coffee was really nice, the cakes were different to what you usually see (I had a scotch creme egg!) and very generous portions as well, and it was great to have a view of the countryside. The staff also seemed very nice. Would recommend stopping off here!

Called in for what I hoped would be a simple brisk lunch. Despite the miserable weather the tables were about 80 % full. Ordered a tea to drink and a baked potato with cheese / pre - paid at the counter. My tea arrived after about ten minutes. Then as i looked around I realised that the people on the adjacent table had seemingly not received their food yet - and obviously had ordered before me. I began to get that "hospital waiting room" feeling ; 20 minutes after placing my order - still no sign of baked potato ( how hard can it be ? ). Even if I had not been on a working lunch break I would still have considered this unacceptably slow. So I drank my tea and politely asked for a refund for the food . On my way but still hungry ! Whatever the situation on the day of my visit ,the result was utterly disorganised service . I would not have minded so much if somebody had said at the time of ordering that they were having problems coping and there would be "x minutes wait" for food. But no , just hopeless .

Heard a lot of positive things about this place. Decided to pop in for some lunch with my daughter. Upon entering we encountered a lukewarm hello....and consequently left to our own devices. After waiting for 10 minutes weren't sure if we had to go order at the till ourselves or wait for table service. My daughter decided to go see. She ordered our meal and paid (before the meal). There were only two tables occupied at the time . The food was nice, but the hot beverage for £3.25 was lukewarm and did not fill the cup. I let it go, but the bad customer service continued. When the food arrived it was placed in front if us as if we were putting them out. Then the waiter left without anyone asking if we needed sauce and then had to go in search of the condiments. There was no communication upon entering and while being served, a very strained atmosphere. Although they were enjoying themselves in the back laughing and chatting. We ate and decided to leave. As we were leaving my daughter said thank you, clearly and loudly, not once, but twice. We were completely ignored. There was a staff member on the phone by the till and was engrossed in a conversation and was quite vocal on the phone in front of customers. As I looked back a waitress was standing in the doorway who apparently never heard us say thank you and stared at me blankly. I feel like I wasted my money in this place. Let's face it, it's not all about the food. There needs to be clear communication how to order, not having to go in search for condiments and most importantly, a smile please. Not made to feel like we were inconveniencing them. First and definitely last visit.

Visited yesterday afternoon to pick our pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. We are local and it had been a choice between here and another local patch. After seeing what was on offer at the Whole Hogg we decided to come here, however, we were very disappointed. The Halloween decor was very good as usual but that's about all I can say that is positive. We came a couple of years ago and had a lovely time picking the pumpkins, viewing various animals and playing on the bale castle. This year we seemed to be promised more with a tractor and trailer ride and a maize maze added - not quite sure what happened to these though as we didn't see either! Nothing on the Facebook page saying that these were not available that day. This year there is an entry fee into the bale castle which has previously been free. The £2 fee may have been worth it on a dryer day but the huge muddy puddles in the castle entrances didn't make it very appealing. Only one horse to be seen animal wise too. We were scared to pick big pumpkins as there was nothing stating how much pumpkins were so we went for a small one and a medium size one. We sighed a sigh of relief when we were told the total was an acceptable £5 and wished we had maybe got a bigger one! We would have liked to have sat inside and had a cup of coffee and cake but there is very little seating now that the big area at the back is not in use. We did have a look in the farm shop but the prices are extremely high so did not purchase anything. Overall a bit of a let down and will probably give the other place our custom next year.

We called in this pretty farm shop twice while on holiday. All the produce we bought at the shop was very tasty. The first time we had lunch and ordered the tomato and basil soup. It was very tasty and chunky, and of the quality I’ve only ever had in Tuscany, BUT unfortunately it was served only lukewarm. Such a shame as would easily have been five stars otherwise . The accompanying bread was in very generous portions - literally half a cottage loaf each ! The outside of the farm shop was looking particularly attractive with a huge display of colourful pumpkins. Both times the service in the shop itself was very helpful. (We loved the orange drizzle cake we bought here). We would definitely call in again next time we are in the area.

I am writing this review for the attention of the management. I also do not believe that harming local business by leaving one star reviews is really very helpful. Hence my four stars. And it is a great local business, quality butchery, and the like with the pumpkins for the kids. I have had a quick meal here previously and all was well. Technically I am not a customer today but I wanted to be. I stopped for a takeaway sandwich, polite staff referring me to the menu for the choices. Turkey on granary with all the salad and mayonnaise was a simple order. However I was aghast to be asked for the eat in price (£7.95) for a takeaway. While I appreciate that it is perhaps not my business to break down your cost card but sticking it on a plate, garnishing with some crisps and the like coupled with a contribution to the building and ambience is a lot more expensive with the minimal overheads than putting it in a paper bag to take away. There is also the fact that cold takeaway food does not suffer VAT so there is some further blatant profiteering here (£1.32). I am afraid that I walked away but was not certain that the feedback will necessarily get back to the owner. Hence this involved feedback. I wonder whether there is a simple fix that at the very least a reprogramming of the till might be in order but your takeaway pricing offer may need some attention. I hope that this review is helpful.

Place was empty, not acknowledged and had to wait, three members of staff were on shift and had seen us.Ordered scones with jam and cream and a pot of tea, so nothing really to 'prepare', whilst sat waiting we noticed customers who had arrived after us had been served their food and drinks, sandwiches, salads, bacon rolls etc, all which were freshly made and would take longer to prepare!I was close to getting up, asking for a refund and moving on, the waitress after another wait did deliver the food, and did apologise for the wait, saying that they'd had a problem with the coffee machine, to which I responded 'we didn't order coffee', to which the curt response was 'and I had other things to do'. Shocking service and extremely rude waitress, a person with half a brain would see that the coffee machine is not relevant to us and the order of service is completely wrong and very visible to those customers who are waiting.I can't actually remember the last time I had such poor service, never again.

Amazing meat pies & lovely cafe. Bought a couple of great pumpkins and the display was fabulous for children. Only negative comment would be that pumpkins were quite pricy and there didn’t seem to be any real pricing system. Staff just said “shall we say £8 for that one”. I’m afraid I’m going to jump on the bandwagon with other reviews regarding the rudeness I experienced on my visit today. I was shocked at the unfriendliness of this establishment. Visiting from Dorset I was keen to engage in both conversation and homemade treats .... neither of which were forthcoming. Safe to say, I will NOT be returning again whilst holidaying here in North Yorkshire. They were so rude that I felt compelled to report my view on trip advisor and spare someone else’s feelings. The Hospitality industry is ruined in these current Covid times - you would have thought friendliness and supporting local small business, as opposed to supermarkets, would be received graciously, not offhandedly RUDE

I have been visiting this cafe regularly (once a month) over the last four years and throughout that time I think the food quality and service is "value for money", as has been the raw meat (belly pork), the excellent flans and fruit loafs purchased in their little shop area.Service is good and the choice of food, though limited, is always well cooked and plentiful.Parking here on-site and plentiful and the menu is satisfyingly stable (as have been the prices over the years), with the odd "special" to tempt you. We liked the decor and the staff there. The service seemed good too. We thought the menu was a bit limited, but as it was so late, around 2.45 we were glad to order a meal, with a coffee each. We ordered a bacon and sausage sandwich. As the tearoom, had its own butchers next door. We thought we’d try them, with a view to buying some, if they were good. There was plenty of bacon and sausages in each of our sandwich rolls. But, although the bacon was average, the sausages were rubbery and tasteless. Pity, as we would have purchased some to take home. The chips were nice and thick, but a little on the dry side. Coffee was good.

The member of staff who was stood outside just glared at us and then very rudely told off said son for touching the stork as she doesn’t want them to go mouldy. It was at this point we looked at each other and decided to get back in our car and take our business elsewhere. Very strange version of hospitality/customer service. We are a family of 9 with 2 dogs. We stopped for lunch on 5th August. Both dogs were on leads under the picnic table as we had been told by owner that they had 5 dangerous dogs which would attack ours if they were running free. One of their dogs got free because a gate was left open and immediately started to attack one of our dogs....a family member tried to pull her dog away and was bitten on the arm and hand. A young boy came out but could not restrain the dog. A man then appeared and eventually managed to hold the dog by the neck and proceeded to hit the dog. His excuse was that she was on heat!! We called the police and they are following the incident up. The lady who was bitten was badly shaken and has had to have a tetanus jab. A horrendous experience for us all and potentially could have been much worse. Not the place to stop for a quiet lunch...totally irresponsible owner who did not even show their face to find out if our dog and us were ok. Never again!

We had our drink inside – it was very cold inside the cafe as the door was wide open so we could not take our coats off. There were lots of cakes which looked appetising but we had eaten a large Sunday lunch earlier. After paying our bill we went outside to have a look at the pumpkins which were of all sizes.

A rustic farm-orientated cafe and shop - the morning breakfast is superb - also the butchery and shop sells first class goods - a very nice place.............

I was in need of something warming for lunch and pulled into this lovely looking farm shop and restaurant. The restaurant is to the left as you enter and has really nice seating areas with a counter show casing lovely cakes and deserts.

We were visiting family in Lincolnshire & stopped here to buy lunch provisions. The staff could not have been more helpful & we left with a steak & ale pie, a vegetarian quiche straight out of the oven & Yorkshire curd, all packed in a box to make transport easy. We were so impressed we dropped back the next day to thank them.

I have passed this place many times and today I decided to call in to have a look and see what delights took my fancy. The tearoom area was empty with a table occupied by staff, I was admiring the cake selection on the counter when an older lady came straight up from the staff table to take my order, I didn't see the menu on the tables until I sat down, I was looking at the cake so wrongly presumed they just served cake or soup and pasties that were advertised on the counter. The lady that served me wasn't friendly, I felt I'd inconvenienced staff by being there, the lady asked if my order of a pot of tea and cake was to take away, I said no eat in please, she replied I'll bring it to you outside do you want to pay now? I replied by asking if I could sit inside. Having being allowed to sit in the tearoom and finishing my order I picked up 3 cards that I was wanting to purchase and asked the same lady if I could pay for the cards at the counter she was stood behind, she said no you have to go to the shop. I asked where the shop was and she just pointed, she could have just said the butchers counter which I personally wouldn't class as a shop. I will carry on my route next time and visit my usual stops where I'm greeted with a smile and friendly service.

I googled this place as a possible stop off on-route to the North York Moors. Made note of the postcode on my itinerary and entered it into the satnav on the day of our outing. The postcode took us to a wooded area in the middle of nowhere. It took us 40 minutes driving around aimlessly, first to try and see signs of the farm shop and secondly to try and get mobile signal. Anyway, it turned out that the postcode on the website had been typed incorrectly as YO17 6QR instead of YO17 6RQ.

Stopped for a quick lunch on our way back home. The service wasn’t that good to start with but you could see they were very busy so that was understandable.

Rather small as farm shops go these days so if you’re looking for a huge scale one that isn’t what you’ll find. There is a cafe selling meals and the most delicious looking cakes, as well as a shop selling meat etc but also other produce and fancy goods. Service was very friendly.

As a regular weekly visitor to both the farm shop butchery department and cafe part for many years, well actually since it opened many moons ago I thought it only right and proper to make a positive review . I can honestly say that the meats and produce in the butchery section has always been up to a very high standard and the fresh quiches, pasties and pies are also deliciously fresh and last days, not like some purchased in supermarkets.

We visit farm shops quite often and have been to much nicer ones. Like one of the other reviewers we were left standing and ignored for quite a while as the staff seemed more keen to talk to locals than serve customers. The food was mediocre and we bought some tomatoes which weren’t cheap and when we got home half were mouldy. We won’t be returning when there are so many much nicer to choose from.

Called on the way to Staithes for breakfast. There was a few folk in so not busy. Stood at the counter for approximately five minutes. Young women were working hard at it but we never had one single acknowledgement. If this was the management then please set a better example to your staff. If this was the staff then the owners need to teach them the basics in customer care. A simple hi, I'll be over in five minutes is all that would be needed. Been ignored is such bad manners.

We called here today on the way back from a walk in Dalby Forest. It is the first time my husband has been but I have been a couple of times before and really enjoyed it. However, today I don't think the waitress was really with it. There was no welcome and it was a while before she came over to our table. We ordered the baguette sandwich and thought it strange when she asked if we wanted white or brown. We also ordered a portion of chips. After about ten minutes our sandwiches came in ordinary sliced bread. We sat and waited for cutlery and the chips but neither appeared so my husband went and helped himself to cutlery and napkins and we ate our sandwiches, which were very nice - plenty of filling and served with salad and crisps. At no point did the waitress come and ask if everything was okay. My husband went to pay and she mentioned chips when adding up and was most surprised when my husband told her we had not had the chips! I think the problem was that they were chatting and making a fuss over their 'regular' customers. We too could become regular if the service improved as the food is delicious.

This is a lovely place but let down by how chaotic it was . I got two scones and two coffees took the scones to our table and was told the drinks would be brought across, The scones were hard ( certainly not fresh ) I had trouble biting mine I had to cut it up to eat it , it was dry , I also noticed someone took a scone back I heard the girl say it must of got mixed up with the fresh ones , ours must have been last weeks ,It was 15 minutes before we got our drinks I noticed several tables hadn't got theres either , people were going to the counter to complain by this time . Just needs a bit more organising, who wants to eat a scone without a drink !!!..on the other hand we will go again to try the Gardeners lunch which looked delicious
