Possibly the worst dining experience we have ever had in a pub. We should never have gone in after being warned there was a party of 18 booked, and had we realised how incredibly noisy they were going to be, we would have gone away. I had to take a tablet half an hour before eating, so my husband asked for us to be served in half an hour. The large party's orders were taken and the food delivered long before ours arrived, and they were ordering their desserts; a couple near us who had come in after us were served. I was getting anxious, because if more than an hour goes by without eating, my stomach tablet doesn't work. My husband had to go and ask about our order, because I was getting very anxious and also getting a migraine because of the noisy party, who were constantly yelling to each other. I went to the loo, which was up a step (so not wheelchair friendly, though the entrance is), which were less than clean, and one of the toilets didn't even have a seat. I mean, a new seat isn't exactly dear! There were a lot of signs up abut drugs, so it looks like there is a drug problem. My meal was there when I got back to the table, but it was barely edible. The chicken had been warmed up too long in the microwave and was too hard and overdone to eat, and the cheese was congealed and rubbery. They brought us a free drink to say sorry but we just wanted to get out of there as quick as we could. To add insult to injury, the large party had blocked us in with one of their many vehicles. The interior was dark and dingy and depressing. This was the first time we'd eaten anywhere in Pickering and we wish we hadn't bothered and just eaten in the hotel we were staying in, thankfully not this one.

As title with a warm welcome and plenty of Ales to try. Handy to have a dram or two, whilst waiting for the train to travel from Pickering on the North Yorkshire Railway..a fine day out!

Visited the hotel just to see what it was like and decided to only stay for a drink. The bar itself is traditionally basic which is okay in itself. The staff were very friendly though and chatted to us about our dog and provided a bowl of water for her. The drinks we had were okay. We actually chose to sit outside as it was a scorching day and it would be nice if the area was a bit more tidy - as the seats and tables could do with a good clean/lick of paint.

We came here for a meal, but they weren't serving food as the chef hadn't turned up. We decided to stop for a drink and we were overcharged. £13 for a pint of lager and a gin!! After complaining, we were given back £1.50. If it was a nice place I would've minded, but the place is disgusting. No seat on the toilet, a hole in the ceiling dripping water into a bucket, very dirty throughout, scruffy unkempt staff. Needless to say we didn't stop for another and left disgusted.

This has to be the most disgusting, vile place I have ever been in… drugs so openly been sold and taken…Why would anyone pay the extortionate prices they charge for food and drinks in this place, got our drinks sat for about 10 minutes then left, felt so uncomfortable. It certainly isn’t a steak restaurant as advertised…. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.. better places, nicer locals just around the corner

Only called in for drink and that’s all we had just the one. Not the friendliest of welcomes by the female behind the bar, although a couple of the locals did seem more friendly to us. However once we had been served the conversation amongst the locals around the bar was one of what can only be described has loud foul and abusive language albeit not at us or to us, this made us feel very uncomfortable and we left to go and sit in another room at the back of the pub. On the evidence of our visit sorry to say we won’t be going back in this pub in an hurry. Such a shame has it is in a prime location and could and should be a lot, lot better than we experienced.

We was camping at flamingo land so decided to go out for tea for a change. Came across by chance as the other restaurants in Pickering were full and so glad we did! We were two families of 4 and the food was excellent, staff were very welcoming with special mention to the young lady that took our food order! Definitely will return when in this neck of the woods again.

We visited here on Sunday afternoon. It seemed to be the only pub in Pickering which had a full menu on and not just Sunday roast. We wasn’t disappointed . Our group of 4 ordered 2 mixed grills, a curry and vegetable lasagne . We all enjoyed our meals. The mixed grill I had was a large portion and well cooked. All the staff were friendly. We would call again next time in the area.

Dined at the Station Hotel last minute due to all restaurants and pubs we knew of in the area being fully booked. We were really impressed with the quality of the food and service, and pleased to have found what appears to be a bit of a hidden gem. The food was so good we returned the following night and once again, it didn't disappoint. We would highly recommend.

We visited for Sunday lunch as a family of six after having been on the Santa special NYMR train. The staff were extremely welcoming and we had a generously portioned roast dinner with a whooping great big Yorkshire pudding and plenty of gravy. The staff very kindly did a special of chicken nuggets and chips with either peas or beans and a Christmas cracker for the little ones which was extremely accommodating as it wasn’t even on the menu. Everything was well thought out in terms of precautions for COVID and very sensibly managed. All in all we had a very enjoyable experience with good food and excellent service in a very clean and cosy restaurant. At the end of the meal the lovely friendly young waitress came over with treats for the children which was totally unexpected and and absolute delight. I cannot praise the staff and service we received highly enough, they were absolutely fantastic and so good with the children!

So, after stopping in during a Pokemon session. Ordering two meals, and 2 pints. We were told if we wanted another drink, we would need to order dessert?!? On a Saturday afternoon?! Never been anywhere where its 1 drink per course before. Covid or not. Bad attitude from Emma the manager as always. Pretty sure she’s in the wrong profession. I won’t be rushing back. The Bay Horse is much friendlier.

Went for the early bird - between 5 and 7. Recommend the mussels by a friend. They were not on the menu, but chef happy to do a garlic and cream and a tomato sauce. Both enjoyed. Sadly empty bar and little atmosphere. We felt the house wine was over priced at £16. Probably will give it another go - when railway running.

Under new management and recently refurbished, this place has been transformed. It is cosy and comfortable with an excellent restaurant. Andy, the very experienced chef is working wonders in the place, specialising in steaks and seafood, hence the restaurant name " Oyster & Calf". My starter of queen scallops on minted pea was delicate but flavourful, and my wife's belly pork on mash was sublime. My fillet steak was cooked exactly as requested and was tender and succulent. The seafood platter was great and desserts fresh not mass produced. Andy potentially has the best eatery in town on his hands; by summer there could be a waiting list for tables so book now. Right opposite the North York Moors Railway station, this place is finally realising it's potential.

I picked this hotel a it was opposite the Railway station and we were going on the train to Whitby, leaving the car in the hotel car park and returning from Whitby by the 804 Coastliner bus back to Pickering.I booked for a two night stay which worked out well. We only head breakfast here however it was a good British breakfast. I saw some meals being served eg Burgers and Chips and they looked a good meal, reasonably priced. The room we had was No.1 above the bar. Fortunately it was quiet the first night(Thursday) but on the Friday night it was noisy and kept us awake for a while. Our room was okay for our travels but no heating which we could have done with however there were radiators but they were not in operation. The bathroom door was very hard to shut and then reopen, so we just had the door left slightly open all the time. The extractor fan was very dirty, otherwise the bathroom was clean. The toothbrush holder had no tumbler in the large hole. there was no toilet roll bar to hold the toilet paper so that had to sit on top of it. No soap provided however we always carry some with us.We stayed 6th and 7th September and came home on 8th. For this we were charged £80 per night. We would have been far more comfortable and much cheaper price if we had been able to stay in a Trust House Forte Hotel.

Linda y acogedora área de asientos alrededor del fuego, que era un bienvenido ya que el clima estaba muy fría. Hay un tema Elvis hasta el pub y toda la música parece ser de alrededor de 1950's. The perfect hosts. good beer and cider and lovely home cooked food. We were here for 10 days at Pickering and spent a lot odf our evenings in the Station. Nothing too much trouble for this couple. Was with a few friends and unable to get anywhere near the entertainment. That was until the Landlord took our tables and chairs from the bar and gave us front view seats. Again on the Sunday we were given good seats in the back room and the Doors were opened to give us an excellent view of the entertainment. . Only ate here once, but it was delicious. All the food that came out of the kitchen was fresh and piping hot. Long may they remain in charge. My favourite bit before the weekend was being sat cosily by the fire listening to a brilliant range of music and our chats. Looking forward to next October when we shall meet again.

OK but as is often the case, it felt a bit limbo like compared to the bar and eaterie.Food was fine and came quickly. Some decent ales on and the staff were friendly and attentive.I reckon this would be a cracking pub on a busy evening as it had that potential feel - for a lunchtime pint with hungry kids on a wet late December lunchtime it probably wasn't able to fully do itself justice but I'd certainly go back.

This is a lovely place but let down by how chaotic it was . I got two scones and two coffees took the scones to our table and was told the drinks would be brought across, The scones were hard ( certainly not fresh ) I had trouble biting mine I had to cut it up to eat it , it was dry , I also noticed someone took a scone back I heard the girl say it must of got mixed up with the fresh ones , ours must have been last weeks ,It was 15 minutes before we got our drinks I noticed several tables hadn't got theres either , people were going to the counter to complain by this time . Just needs a bit more organising, who wants to eat a scone without a drink !!!..on the other hand we will go again to try the Gardeners lunch which looked delicious
