This pub has a well deserved reputation for serving good food. I went for Sunday lunch which was very nice. As the pub is a Wadworth tied house, the cask beers are all Wadworth ones.
I had the pleasure of inviting a group of friends to a fixed menu evening meal to celebrate a significant anniversary at the Tale of Spice. From the freshly laundered gleaming table linen, the smartly dressed staff, the nicely timed arrival of the courses, the generous portions, the sheer variety of what was set before us, everything was spot on and excellent. It would have ben near impossible to improve and all at a very competitive price. All round excellent.

What a charming little place. An extremely authentic Chinese with bubbling waterfalls, wooden interior and peaceful music. Lovely helpful staff and the most incredible food that stimulates the senses. Fresh, colourful, al dented vegetables, tender meat and rich super tasty sauce. So much tantalising flavour.
The most amazing fish and chips locally.
Plus you get other great things like pie saveloy's etc.
Customer service is just the best friendly fast and good overall chat.
If harvester open a tapas it would be this. About as authentic as straw donkey. Formica tables weren’t a good start .. then breaded whitebait, tempura prawns, olives out of a tin.. steamed bread from cafe rouge 1999. Boiled chorizo and rubbbery manchego without any quince jelly , that they don’t serve more because ‘ no one wants it’. You’d of thought the one advantage of eating in a Waitrose car park was they could nip next door and buy a pot. Tapas as done in the worst beach bar on the costa del sol. At £150 for 2 adults and a child I’d hoped for much better
Had a lovely couple of nights here. Room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The continental breakfast was very good and the evening meals were amazing and of a very high standard. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would recommend a stay here.
Prompt delivery but the tikka masala was weirdly sweet? I honestly wonder if they pre mixed mango chutney into it, I’m not a fan of the stuff myself so it kind of ruined it for me. The naan was good but the pilau rice was wet which did not help the masala situation.
The four of us had an outstanding Sunday lunch - great food, great ambience and great staff.
The place was - quite rightly and deservedly given our experience - busy, but the service delivered by the delightful front of house team was excellent.
We all had different main courses and every one of them was delicious, and so were the puds!
5 stars are well deserved in my book so go and try it for yourselves.

Just a bit turned off because I called and asked if they had king prawn noodles and was told that it’s a Thai restaurant and not a Chinese restaurant. I am Caribbean how would I know ? That was a bit rude 😭 however the food looks and smells nice, might try it after the poor customer service has worn off me .
