Crown & Anchor in Wiltshire

Visited for Sunday lunch on a wet September day, sitting inside the table was great, room light and airy. We all had the Sirloin roast which was super, thick cut with a tasty gravy made from the black treacle used to baste the joint, delish!! Fresh vegetables perfectly cooked. Portion sizes were good but not so much you can’t see what is on the plate! All 3 desserts went down well too. Would certainly go back. We didn’t take our dog but there was one in the corner table so we might next time.

By far my favourite foodie pub in Wiltshire. At least 4 years of constantly great food. Nice walks and a pretty village. My go to place

Saw the good reviews of this pub and decided to book Sunday lunch on our way back home after a stay in Wiltshire. I had the beef Sunday roast and was not disappointed. My husband had the risotto - we both had puddings, me the apple & blackberry compote with almond crumble and my husband the milk chocolate mousse. My crumble was really delicious, best ever I think and my husband loved the milk chocolate mousse. We initially sat outside for a pre lunch drink - outside are pretty seating areas and I especially loved the pink Whispering Angel umbrellas. Would like to stay here in the future when we are next in the area as the rooms look lovely on the website. Thank you for a delicious lunch.

Disappointing. Food looked lovely although small portions. Decided not to eat. Might have been unlucky on the day but staff pretty bad. No real service and limited engagement. In summary as we left we passed approx 4 staff members and no one acknowledged us. Shame because so much potential and we live so close! The Swan @ Wilton so much better.

What a find. Tucked away in a very pretty village not far from Newbury and Marlborough, we stayed in the cottage worth our dog. The sitting room allowed the dog to sleep separately. The bedroom is small and the bathroom minuscule, but it worked fine. The pub provided a good menu, although my monkfish was uncooked and even when sent back, it came back inedible. However, they apologised and did not charge us for that or for our wine. My husband had good food. Breakfast was very goos and the dog got a free sausage! Everyone was happy

A bit pricey for what we received. Lovely setting and flexible staff but portions quite small and the choice was limited.

Wonderful pub food in a very attractive setting. The village is gorgeous and the pub pretty. We thought the food was utterly delicious and especially the puddings. Perfect tarts and soufflés and all.presented beautifully. We spoke to the chef personally to thank him before we left.

Good food and excellent hospitality at this gem of a tastefully renovated country pub in a beautiful, hidden little picturesque village. Great value too. Thoroughly recommended

Our son and daughter in law bought us a three course lunch voucher as a Christmas present, so we used it today for our 42nd wedding anniversary. The pub is in a lovely setting and great decor inside . The staff are very friendly, professional and attentive. The food is awesome, my good lady wife had the camembert for starters, hake fish and chips for main and a white chocolate and raspberry souffle for dessert . I had the duck liver parfait with pineapple chutney and miso jelly for starters, followed by the Guinea Fowl, with jersey royal potatoes, green beans and celeriac and a rich jui , followed by a strawberry, mouse and sorbet with mascapone cheux pastry. All three courses were served at a lovely pace , so we didn't feel rushed at all . This was our first visit, but it definitely won't be our last , well done to all the staff and management at the Crown & Anchor 👌

An excellent dog friendly pub/hotel. We arrived for a lovely snack lunch. Did a great walk with map book provided by the hotel. Returned for drinks on the pretty terrace followed by an excellent evening meal & overnight stay. The decor is top drawer as is the food & service. Will definitely revisit.

A lovely place to eat. The food was delicious especially the tempura monkfish, the sea bass and the pork belly. The service was perfect - friendly and efficient- and the decor is tastefully modern. It’s dog friendly too.

This is a brilliant place. My family stayed for one night and had a great meal to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The rooms are large and very clean.

We stayed for one night for my birthday with our 5 month old daughter and couldn’t have been happier! We had the most beautifully appointed room, with lovely toiletries and such a comfortable bed. The lovely gentleman who showed us to our room was extremely considerate about our little girl and so helpful. Marina who served our breakfast was an absolute delight and we loved spending the morning with her. We didn’t dine as we had a big lunch but now wish we did as I’m sure that would also be wonderful. Breakfast was delicious! This is so much more than a basic b & b. Stylish, wonderful staff and a fabulous atmosphere. We decided to meet our Reading friends roughly halfway from our home in Frome. We decided to go for a walk before lunch. There are three walks of about 90 minutes each. We had booked our Sunday lunch for 1.45 and I have to say the decor is modern and tastefully decorated. The restaurant is very clean and tidy. The toilets are pristine. We decided to share nibbles before our main course. Two of us ordered roast beef and two had roast pork. The meat was tender and succulent. Puddings were also excellent I had sticky toffee pudding and it was delicious. The cost for two courses is £32.95 person. £39.95 for three courses. They serve real ale and lager. Note the service charge of £22 was added to our bill that came to £199.

Noisy , terrible service, poor menu, unbelievable delays for food / wine to arrive. expensive. Cod was rock hard and very very salty! Worst dining experience in 30 years.

Stayed here for a night getaway. Staff were great, very welcoming and friendly. We sat in the bar by the fire and had a few drinks. We ordered fish and chips from the menu as there was not an awful lot to choose from. That saying, the fish was lovely, and we both enjoyed it. Unfortunately I was feeling poorly, with flu so we decided to go to room early and relax and watch TV. Couldn't get bbc 1 at all and the other channels kept getting interference. Normally I don't even switch a TV on in the room so wouldn't have been a problem if I hadn't been poorly. Room was lovely, and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast was a bit limited, and as I don't eat meat , my full English was a bit sparse. Only one slice of toast, although I imagine we could have asked for more. Overall a really nice stay, and definitely return

Cannot recommend this place enough. So clean, amazing local food and beers and the service was absolutely amazing. This is a must go to place in an absolute scenic area. The staff couldn’t do enough for you.

We were a group of 16 friends and had lunch in the Partridge room. The room is fabulous for a group of this size and Ben ensured that the table was laid out to perfection including our place name cards which had been done by his staff. The food was delicious and the staff, lead by Deeta, looked after us to perfection! I could not recommend this venue more.

Honestly this place is so good it's almost a conflict of interest writing a good review because then it'll be packed all the time. It's practically perfect. Lovely staff, great atmosphere and the food is just amazing. Been four or five times now and it's always fab.

This country pub just gets better and better. I have lunched here four or five times in the last couple of years and each time the friendly and attentive staff have ensured a memorable experience. The menu is extensive and the food of the highest quality. It goes to show just what a village pub can achieve with some thought, investment and enterprising management. We have just left after a one night stay and we were blown away by this pub/hotel. The service, rooms and staff were all exceptional. We were given a warm welcome on arrival, during our evening meal, drinks in the bar and breakfast. We stayed in the Doves room which was immaculate and well equipped with a lovely en-suite bathroom and toiletries. We took the opportunity on arrival to enjoy Doves farm extended loop walk, by using the walking route maps created by the hotel. It was a lovely walk. The food in the restaurant for our evening meal was exceptional and we enjoyed a lovely breakfast before checking out today. We would not hesitate to rebook this hotel. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

We stayed at the Crown and Anchor for 3 nights at the end of our UK trip. The facility is in a lovely part of the countryside and we were able to visit many interesting rural areas during our stay. Our room was large and well-appointed, and overall we enjoyed our stay. Staff were excellent, but I have just a few comments to make. 1. The breakfast menu was limited - being used to B and Bs/hotels I was surprised to find no cereal available (other than porridge), and struggled to find something that would fit my largely vegetarian taste. The waitress arranged for me to have a fruit bowl with a little yoghurt, and that was excellent, but not on the menu. 2. Our large room had plenty of room for a wardrobe, or other clothes hanging device, but non was available. All we had was 3 coat hangers on the back of the door...such a shame when space was available. 3 I appreciate that this comment may seem a little odd, but I will try to explain! The route from the stairs to our room was quite convoluted ...up a step, down a step, round a corner etc, as one would expect from an old building. The light coloured carpet tended to disguise the steps and we found that we had to be really careful not to stumble and fall while negotiating our way to our room. We ARE elderly, and tend to be unsure at times, but we felt that there was a need for something to make the steps more visible.

Just had lunch here as we were visiting our son in Shalbourne, he suggested that we could come here . What a lovely experience, greeted by smiles and felt so welcome . We chose the fish and chips as not often have this , such great presentation and tasty . My husband and other son loved your Otter bitter . Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️

An absolutely fantastic venue for our wedding. We visit very regally and decided that the Crown and Anchor would be the perfect venue to host our wedding. The pub and rooms were spotless, the staff were incredibly attentive and nothing was ever too much. The food was amazing - superbly put together but the very talented kitchen team. This was without doubt the nicest place we have stayed in years - beautifully done up, clean, smelling amazing, incredibly comfy bed, the most helpful staff. Our only grumble was that we were staying only one night and would loved to have stayed longer! Couldn’t rate it higher.
