My sister and I enjoyed a very nice pre theatre meal at this beautiful historic pub. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a reasonably priced, well portioned meal. The chef offered extra choice for vegetarian. An error to our order was quickly recognised and rectified. I recommend this lovely pub. The food was delicious, service good, and drinks great.

Used to be our local pub. It's gone downhill badly the last 6 months or so. Gutting. Looking scruffy and untidy inside. Same in the back yard. Needs a deep clean and Totally uninviting. No atmosphere/ambience anymore. Is this down to Stonegate? If so you've let a lot of people down and should be ashamed. This is a very important pub in Salisbury and quite frankly you need to get mature experienced staff in who know what they're doing...asap...I speak for many!

It was a Saturday night in the city and because there are so many places to choose from there are going to be some that are full, half full and some with just a few people in them. Although it may be busy on other days this weekend it was just a few people that were there. We only stayed for one drink and then we left. However, it didn’t mean that it wasn’t enjoyable and there were some people outside. It is a bit further out of the centre of the city too. I’m only being honest at the time we were there and not that it could’ve been better or not. It has the capacity for quite a lot of people. On this occasion it was rather quiet.

It was a lovely afternoon so we ate outside in the yard and the staff could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. I had a very generous and delicious serving of fish and chips.. with homemade tartare sauce .. and my husband the pie of the day (steak and ale) which was also great. I stumbled across the pheasant whilst googling dog friendly restaurants in Salisbury, I fancied going somewhere different with the wife and dog Bella. I was immediately drawn toward the traditional English style pub, and the tantalising menu. I was not disappointed at all, the pub had a lovely relaxed atmosphere, typical of what you would expect for a country pub. The staff were extremely welcoming and warm. Dog treats and water available set up nicely in the corner, fire places, traditional leather couches, a real lovely feel. It was clear that this is a popular place as many people came in seeking a table, we were lucky to have booked when we did. The food was delicious, I was great to meat out and everything from starters to desert was exceptional. Highly recomend the pheasant, great place to relax.

The Pheasant Inn is a dog friendly pub a few minutes stroll from the city centre and half an hour’s easy walking from the Salisbury Camping & Caravanning site where I was staying with my wife and 2 dogs. We received a friendly welcome and, before we had even sat down, a fresh bowl of water and container of treats was provided, unprompted, for the dogs. The food was very good; ‘pub grub’ with plenty of choice. I can recommend the locally sourced pork sausages (3) with mash and onion gravy - excellent. All the food was freshly prepared and cooked. There was a fair selection of hand-pulled ales as you would expect (sadly, not sampled!). The ambience was warm and cosy with an olde world charm often missing from many modernised pubs. All the staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. The Pheasant Inn is highly recommended and we would revisit when in the area again.

Great Sunday lunch in Oct 2020 Returned in June 2021, excellent Sunday Roast again and desserts. Great ale and fine wine. Fantastic service. Will have to return to Salisbury and the Pheasant again. Great old Inn Returned Easter 2022 Martin and the team run a wonderful establishment. Great Easter Sunday Roast. Great ale and fine wine. Now a favourite must when visiting Salisbury. Will return. Returned Feb 2024 Seems to be under new management purhaps? Standard remains high Sunday menu seems simple but traditional. Bitter ale was very, vey cold (unnecessarily chilled?) Roast was again very good. Adjoining table seemed to experience tough fatty beef, which nearly put me off. My sirloun was very good, needed a steak knife, but good flavour. Excellent accompanying veg. A very nice meal. Very ably attended by Rona. Nice wine (Mr Goose shiraz) Yum apple and cinnamon crumble. Will return. Returned a week later! Feb 2023 Busier this week, so much so they had run out of roasts even though we arrived before our booking at 2. 30pm. Very apologetically, Andrew the manager (assisted by Paige, waitress) enquired and sent us to sister pub, the Bell and Crown with generous offer. The carvery (table served) there was of very, very good. Well presented with separate veg. A sports bar (with three tvs showing football, faux open/gas pit fire would not have been our normal choice). The roast beef and veg was very good. A very good standard meal in sport bar setting. Beer was good. Will return to the Pheasant out of choice for nice pub dining food and wine atmosphere. Andrew's response to us gives me confidence that they will get the numbers and their popularity right. Will return, soon

Booked a table for lunch at 12:30 first time after new ownership. Arrived to an empty pub - we sat down close to the fire - only 2 small logs burning and the pub was very cold . A waitress arrived gave us our menus to say - sorry we have no pie no venison no pork and no Buddha bowl (that left about 6 dishes to choose from) We were baffled as to why at 12:30pm and us being the only customers why no pie had been made or why no other ingredients had been sourced? My mum ordered the rump steak and I ordered the sea bass I asked what the sea bass came with apart from crushed potatoes and I was told curly cale so I asked for some vegetables (glad I did otherwise I would of been even more hungry) The food came and although my mum could not fault her steak (could of come with mushrooms) or I could not fault my flavours and tastes of my sea bass I was wondering where the fish was?? I wish I had taken a picture to show all but my meal came with some crushed potatoes underneath and where I should of got in my opinion (with my husband being a chef) 2 fillets of sea bass I had 1 piece which was 2 tails so it was obviously cut in half (thus stretching 2 meals into one) The waitress came over as we had just started eating where I had taken the skin off my fish and was left with no word of a lie 2 mouthfuls of each tail (so 4 mouthfuls in total of thin fish) I said where is the fish?? There is nothing here .. she said I will mention it to the chef and put this right .. so glad I ordered my two carrots and broccoli which was classed as veg with my non existent curly cale otherwise I would be even hungrier than I was hungry, quickest meal I have ever eaten as I was only left with a bit of potato and my bit of veg . Didn’t see the waitress return so sat and watched my mum eat her steak. The waiter cleared our plates and came and put one more log on the fire (still cold and we were wondering why more logs could not being put on the fire) My mum asked for the pudding menu the waiter came with the menu and we were only then told that the fridge had had a malfunction and out of the 6/7 desserts there was only crumble and chocolate brownie (now things started to make sense) they had no stock so my fish was obviously stretched to compensate) my mum ordered the crumble which she ate and had no complaints - another table of 3 people arrived at around 1:15pm - I heard the waiter go over to the table and said the same as was said to us - we have no pie, no venison no pork no Buddha bowl and only 1 Sea bass!!! ( Ahh so that would be the other portion of my sea bass that I paid for) more sense being made!!! I went to the toilet and ordered the bill The bill came and the waitress asked if everything was ok with our meals (obviously trying to dismiss what I had said earlier about the portion size of the fish) again we commented on the lack of fish on my plate to be told that’s how it comes to which I politely said no my husband is a chef and I know I’ve had two tails and she said (I will let the chef now) well thanks - would of been nice if maybe my vegetables were given to me free (which I had to pay for) to compensate or maybe offered a free dessert as an apology) not a chance - we paid and left and the waitress walked passed us as we walked out the door and didn’t even say goodbye! A few hours later I went for fish and chips as I was so hungry .. won’t be returning in a hurry - such a shame as this was always a good pub with good morals and standards!!

Tried an Ale reccomended to me by the manager and it didn't disappoint. When it came to food the chefs were very accommodating when it came to the meals, my daughter had a fish finger ciabatta and modified everything except the home made fish bites and the ciabatta its self. She thoroughly enjoyed it although the portion is very large and she couldn't finish it. I had a rare steak, cooked to perfection with a perfect sear around the meat, perfectly rare on the inside, served with all the trimmings.. 10/10 will be back, will be reccomending to friends and family. Visited today the 9th September with Mary my significant other. We admired the oldy woldy setting and had an excellent meal of seabass served by the outgoing personable Joey whose friendliness added to the experience. Highly recommended

Sadly after serving the people of Salisbury for nearly 400 years the pub was closing its doors for the final time. Due to the utilities bills trebling in the last 2 years.

A really great find, just outside the centre of Salisbury but in very easy walking. We visited with friends for a catch up over a Sunday roast, and the meat was very tender with fresh veg. Staff were very helpful and obliging We will definitely be returning

Have been to this pub before and never had a bad meal…until yesterday. We had a roast chicken Sunday lunch, which was extremely generous in size but was completely tasteless. Everything (including the chicken!) looked as though it had been boiled rather than roasted and...

So incredible! Not fine dining, but GOOD dining. Exactly what you want out of pub food. I would have taken a photo of the dish but couldn't stop myself from devouring it!

This was a birthday meal and it fits the bill, perfectly. Excellent service throughout and the meal was top notch, nothing left on the plates. Price was good, with a good rang of ales including Doombar & Jail Ale

The pancake house can get very busy and is very popular definitely book to avoid disappointment. Pancakes are nice and fluffy and filling we have never come away disappointed. The price is quite expensive but if you’re here you know that it’s not a cheap place.

We have been to eat here many time's over the years, which have been good, this time was not a good experience, Friday 18th October, 4.30pm . The place was not busy when arrived, got seated, ordered food, when food came, it looked good but all was lukewarm, loaded chips very salty so didn’t eat all, tried to get waiting staff attention with no joy staff members standing together chatting(male staff) except for two young girls who seemed to be doing all the work. We did not get checked on which is not good, problem with food could have been corrected. Tips: Most people will be happy to wait an extra 15 mins to have hot food. Staff need to work as team. Check on your customers.

My wife and I decided to celebrate with afternoon tea at the Red Lion. It was a blazing hot Sunday in late June, but we were very thoughtfully guided to a beautiful spot in the shade just at the edge of the courtyard. Our waitress, Angel, was absolutely excellent. She was cheerful, chatty, and attentive but also very professional and not at all intrusive or pushy. The included refills of tea or coffee kept coming as promised, and the atmosphere was both friendly and relaxed. Our compliments to the kitchen staff, too, as the quality and quantity of the food and drink easily justified the price in our eyes. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend Sunday afternoon tea at the Red Lion.
