Tale of Spice in Wiltshire

Went for a midweek meal here, and was not disappointed. Upstairs dining room. My lamb main course and dhal side dish were both very good. Service was charming. Recommended.

This place is a highlight in the culinary world of Pusey, the presentation of the staffing and restaurant was immaculate. It was a lovely surprise to Find such a gem in this quaint English village. The food was tasty , staff attentive all at a very reasonable cost, we will be back!

After ordering a take away they didn’t take payment and then tell us rubbish about why we had to wait over a hour for our dinner then when they did take payment processed with more rubbish in why we was kept waiting very poor service

A family meal booked by my daughter and I was very pleasantly surprised. We visited early on a Tuesday evening and we were immediately shown to our table and offered drinks and menus. Drinks arrived fairly rapidly and orders taken. I opted for chicken jalfrezi ( my favourite dish) but more as a marker to compare against other establishments. I was not disappointed - plenty of chunks of chicken in a fragrant sauce and the heat, although fairly spicy, was just right. Portion sizes were generous, in fact I could only manage about a third of my pilau rice ! The service was excellent and we're already deciding what we'll eat next time we visit (which will be soon)

We've eaten at Indian restaurants globally and Tale of Spice in Pewsey ranks in our top two experiences. The service was personal and timely, the atmosphere was warm, and the food preparation, quantity, and quality, including the balance of spices used, were superb.

Tale of Spice is a place I have been meaning to write a review for a long time. Our server was attentive and friendly, she made sure to accommodate an allergy at our table and was knowledge about the dishes. The vindaloo is HOT! Just the way I wanted it. The naan, rice and papadams were great. Great choices for vegetarians and vegans as well as meat eaters. The atmosphere was cozy and great for a date night. We were seated upstairs. I foolishly forgot to take pictures of the food but it was very presentable and delicious. I will always recommend this spot to others if they are in the area.

Visited when everything rlse in town was shut. Amazing place and probably the best curry I have ever had. Would definitely return.

Nice Indian, freshly cooked and very tasty food. Slightly on the hot side but delicious. Wednesday and Sunday deals well worth the money. Good service, friendly staff.

Disappointing. Not as good as previous visits. We ate early evening, the naan bread tasted like it was yesterdays reheated and the main dish sauce tasted like it had been reheated several times. Very disappointing.

Whether we have a take away or eat in Josh and his team always deliver. I am not great with spice but have definitely tried more than I ever would with their advice! Would always recommend and looking forward to tonight’s Friday night take away!

Myself and my partner came here in December 2022 We both caught food poising both very sick for a few days because of this . We weren’t the only ones that night who we found had food poisoning too I don’t recommend !

Served food quite late...but that's understandable as they're apparently very busy according to the manager who I heard saying this to the other customer. But never seen a single smile from him...not even when we gave him a "tip".Didn't even thank us. I asked for a doggy bag but he mixed the vegetarian potato with lamb and mixed rice with the chicken. Will never come back as never felt welcome and comfortable. Oh, my husband said that the chicken taste like a frozen food.

Enorm nachgefragtes Restaurant im Dachgeschoß eines winzigen Hauses. Das Personal war gestresst und hat uns mehr abgefertigt als bedient. Wir hatten das fixed Menu für zwei, dessen Highlight noch das Papardam war. Die Gerichte waren nicht überzeugend gewürzt, was beim Inder eher selten ist. Das Lamm war von unedler Qualität und hat meine Kaumuskulatur strapaziert. Das hat das warme Tuch nachher dann auch nicht aufgewogen.

Chicken shashlick was so tender and tasty the onions tomatoes an peppers just melted in your mouth even had a crispy char to it so I know it wasn’t microwave 🙄 Also had a chicken bhuna madras hot with a egg absolutely beautiful couldn’t fault...

Lovely little restaurant, Popped in to order a takeaway, was the best Chicken Bhuna I have ever tasted, nice refreshing sauce with juicy pieces of proper fresh tomatoes. Will return asap

Bat takeaway curry for many a year. Food was hot, perfectly cooked and the complimentary pipadums very welcome - especially by my puppy. Also good value as we live in London and our order was about £12 less than normal for 3 of us...happy teddies

This place, unlike many others, makes everything to order. Sure take away take 20 - 30 mins but its worth it. Great food and a lovely pint on tap too. Defo coming again

This is a superb Indian restaurant with excellent food and great service. We have been a few times before and have never been disappointed. For me the Tandoori Mixed Grill is lovely but then all the dishes are. Highly recommended.

We were welcomed by the friendly staff team as soon as we entered the restaurant. We sat upstairs where it was cool and very comfortable.We enjoyed a variety of dishes including my always favourite: Chicken Korma, Pashwari naan and onion bhaji. All of these dishes tasted beautiful. The food all came out at the same time as we like to mix all our dishes together. The food was hot, fresh and very well presented.The menu is excellent and includes a variety of meats to include ostrich!Vegetable dishes are vast as well as plenty of breads, sides and rice dishes.A hygiene station is located just at the entrance of the restaurant with toilets both upstairs and downstairs. Bathrooms clean and with good hand washing facilities.We enjoyed many drinks after our meal and it was lovely to chat with the staff members who made our evening very special.We shall definitely be returning and spreading the word about this great place!Thank you all at a Tale of Spice

The prices are higher than other places. The chicken Tikka is not freshly cooked in the tandoor, it is cooked how ever long before then reheated in a pan with onions. The chicken shashlik proves this as the onions, peppers and tomato does not have the skewer holes in. The naan breads are very small and expensive an the bombay aloo is just about tasteless. I would not recommend this take away/restaurant.

Great curry, nice staff, loved the Ostrich really nice change from Lamb or Chicken!! Will use this place again.

My Girlfriend and I visited one Sunday and had the buffet. A warm welcome was extended and we sat upstairs. Plenty of fresh salad and condiments, starter was a very generous portion of Onion Bhaji, chicken tikka and samosas. All excellent. Mains were chicken korma, lamb curry (not sure which) and a vegetable curry. Accompanied by rice and naan bread. Naan bread was light, fluffy, warm and soft - perfect!Service was attentive, amazing value for money considering the amount of food you get. Would definitely go again if in the area.

I have and will always recommend this place to whoever I can. Quality never fails, nor does portion size or customer service of the wonderful waiters here. Chef’s deserve an award for the best Tahdka Dahl in the UK. 15/10

Pleasantly surprised to find an Indian Restaurant in this small Wiltshire village. First class service on a busy Saturday evening, huge choice from an extensive menu including duck and ostrich. Stuck to classic Madras and Rezzala dishes which were very good. Reasonable prices too.

My brother was visiting he and his wife love an Indian so we decided to ‘risk’ it with somewhere we’d never been before and try this place out; so pleased we did! Excellent staff welcoming on arrival and very efficient. The menu is awesome, there is so much on it the variety is staggering. That can be a bit of a risky thing sometimes but the food we had was excellent! My brother is a good judge of Indian restaurants and he said he’d certainly come back again.2 minor points was that they messed up the naan breads and they had run out of Ostrich which was a shame, but they fixed the naan bread situation more than to our satisfaction and you can’t help when you run out of something. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very good, it’s a pleasant experience all round. All in all we had an excellent experience here and look forward to coming back to try some more of the menu in future. Certainly recommend a visit if you’re looking for an Indian in the Pewsey area.

The food is always amazing and the service makes you feel like you’re the part of their family. We’ve been customers for the past 5 years now and anytime we have friends and family visiting, we always took them there. All the special requests, like chilled red wine just for my cousin, are always accommodated. Some of our friends recently went vegan and thought they’d have to give up Tale of Spice food, but these guys always went out of their way to accommodate our friends and make delicious vegan meals. Top class! Definitely recommend to visit.

Good welcome and standard of cuisine. Offering the usual dishes for an Indian that also offer take-away as well as table service. Chefs specials were good, they also have ostrich curries on the menu!

Wow, tale of spice is just amazing, the staff always amazing and the food is second to none. I would recommend the food and service anytime. Well done to all the staff keep up the good work.

Unfortunately this is the only curry house in Pewsey Visited this weekend with friends...... it’s a very small restaurant & to accommodate 10 of us seemed to be a struggle for themFood came out at all different times, there was no rice for at least 3 of us, we had to keep asking for it but there was extra naan that we didn’t order !!!Not impressed with the brown coloured madras, eat madras regularly & none of us had seen it this colour It’s stifling hot in the restaurant with an inadequate air con system Don’t think we will bother with a return visit for our meet up next year unless there is a new Indian in town Sorry guys, you need to up your game !

Came here for dinner without booking, staff were extremely polite & friendly, couldn’t do enough for us. Food was simply brilliant, possibly the best Indian meal we’ve ever eaten! The shashlik and lamb biryani were exceptional. Hope we get chance to come back as we were only passing through!

We have been meaning try this place for ages after hearing some very good reviews locally. So we made the effort one Sunday evening and certainly were not disappointed. They had an ‘all you can eat’ style buffet Sunday special but we opted to choose from the main menu. The food was delicious, service prompt and really we couldn’t fault it. Definitely recommend and we will return.

One of the best Indian meals we have ever had. We opted for a take away as it was a Sunday evening and we thought the resteraunt may be crowded as there was an all you can eat buffet. We made a good choice and the dishes we chose were amazing and very different from other Indian resteraunts we have been to

Absolutely fantastic service and amazing food, great restaurant and take out! The servers are very friendly and there's a very chilled out atmosphere, I've been coming to this restaurant for years and they cook the best Indian cuisine I have ever had.

After an unsuccessful attempt at finding pubs that were actually open on our longboat holiday, we came here. The staff were very attentive and we even got some complimentary drinks. Very nice food.

This is our only eat in restaurant in central Pewsey and it doesn’t disappoint. The food is great and staff very efficient and friendly. They do great take- always too, for when you’re too lazy to cook, but want to stay home. Totally recommend.

This place was recommended to us by friends. The food was good but we couldn't wait to get out of the place as, shortly after we arrived, a large group of people, who seemed to be workmates, arrived. They had obviously been drinking before coming out to eat and they were incredibly noisy - shouting, yelling, all talking at once. We asked to be moved to another table but this really did not help much at all. We rushed our meals and then left. I felt sorry for the people working at the restaurant. I am sure this is not the norm. They were obviously embarassed and apologised to us for the rowdy group.

We ordered our usual, and the food was unrecognisable, in my opinion it was the left overs of the Sunday buffet!!! Also some of the staff were quite rude!!

6 of us went for the £10.95 all you can eat Sunday buffet and I really do enjoy the food that's available, albeit quite a limited choice on the buffet.

Our take away dinner was yummy and to our satisfaction. Although the restaurant was very busy, our order of onion bhajis, chicken pasanda, naan, papadums and rice arrived warm and just in time for us to enjoy. The quality of food was very good, hence we would like to thank the chef for providing us with a good Indian meal. If you are searching for an Indian takeout we strongly recommend this restaurant not because it is conveniently located in Pewsey but also provides a very good quality meal...

We had takeaway on this occasion and were impressed by the extensive selections on the menu. The food was tasty, well prepared and reasonably priced. Oh, I believe they do delivery on the weekends too. Worth a try.

We moved to Pewsey 7 months ago and have been frequent visitors to this lovely restaurant. The staff are amazingly warm, friendly and exceeding quick. The food is gorgeous and there is always a lovely chap only too happy to recommend dishes, we have eaten most and every one of them have been first class. They care about what they put infront of you and want nothing more to have you say how good their food is. Believe me it's the best.

We had a lovely meal here on Friday 28th July 2017; the restaurant was packed and obviously popular with the locals. Despite this, the service was excellent and tasty food came beautifully presented. Thanks you! Would thoroughly recommend.

It was very quiet when I arrived. The service was attentive but not to much. Poppadoms as to be expected and not rushed. Buffet had a good selection and I was offered repeat visits to it. Excellent value for the price.

After a long days walking really fancied a curry and the reviews and how busy the restaurant was boded well.Sadly however one lamb and one chicken curry both had really chewy meat in them .very tough.Both the pilau and boiled rice were odd in texture and the pilau seemed mainly boiled with a few coloured grains added at last minute.We left most of it and the waiter couldn't have been better and insisted on taking the curries off the bill.I sensed from his reaction that it was unusual for meals not to be fully devoured so maybe someone New cooked ours ?? Couldn't fault the staff.

Ordered food for 6 people. Told an hour for delivery. Nearly 2 hours later it's still not here and we have been told it's because it's a large order and the delivery driver has sworn at us on the phone. Collection in the past has been fine. Delivery is frankly shocking. And the excuse of being busy is frankly unacceptable.

I and my friends and family have been regular visitors for both eat in and takeaway. The quality is always good as is the service. Because it is popular, ordering a takeaway on busy nights service can be a little slow so book your food early. But it is worth the wait. We have eaten a variety of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and have never been disappointed.

Not nearly as friendly as I expected given the other reviews. I had to work really hard to get a smile out of any of the staff there, who seemed taciturn and distracted. HOWEVER, the food was really tasty, fresh, and well-priced. We enjoyed our meal very much, but slightly warmer service to tourists would be appreciated!

We visited on a wet Sunday evening, from a canal boat. A quiet time of the week for a restaurant, and we were slightly worried it might be closed, but we were immediately made very welcome and were quickly served a satisfying and tasty meal. Many thanks!

This restaurant does some pretty decent curries. The service is very good and is noticeably much quicker than certain other South Asian restaurants in the area.

it would seem this is the only restaurant in Pewsey and luckily it was very good. The service was good, the food tasty and the ambience pleasant. All in all very good.

Visited without booking and got a table for 4 without having to wait. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday night but the service was still very efficient. Choice of a set menu which was really good value for money, or normal menu. We had 2 meals from the set menu and 2 normal....all meals were outstanding in quality. Service was superb too. Will definitely recommend and visit again.

We visited here for a large family gathering for my partners birthday.We were made to feel very welcome, the staff put themselves out to accomodate us.The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and so tasty. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed the meal and commented that they would love to go again. Highly recommend this restaurant.
