Great Wall Restaurant in Wiltshire

**Great Wall Restaurant, Salisbury** Our usual Chinese takeaway was closed due to a fire, so after hearing great things about The Great Wall in Salisbury from friends, we decided to give it a try. Although we pre-ordered our food, we still had to wait 20 minutes for it to be ready. When we got home, the food was reasonably hot. At first glance, it looked appealing and smelled decent. However, as we started serving it, we noticed how greasy everything was. We initially brushed this off, thinking that Chinese food can sometimes be a bit greasy. Unfortunately, after just a few bites of my Chicken Chow Mein, I had to stop eating because it was overwhelmingly greasy and ended up throwing it away. My partner had the Singapore special fried rice with curry sauce, and he also had to stop eating and discard his meal. Both of us are now feeling queasy from the excess fat and saltiness in our dishes. It’s a shame because the reviews suggest that this is a good restaurant and it was quite busy. We also had positive recommendations from friends. However, I suppose it depends on what you’re accustomed to. Our regular Chinese food is never this greasy, and we've never ended up throwing it away. Unless you're used to this level of greasiness, I would recommend finding another place to eat.

Went to collect a takeaway it was ordered for 18,45 had to wait till 19,10 to finally get the food. No apologises and the person I was dealing with was a bit uninterested. Got the food home it was all quite oily unfortunately wasn't that good in my opinion, there was quite a few people in the restaurant part so some people must enjoy there food,. Not for us won't be going back.

Food is outstanding. If you come to Salisbury do not miss out on this restaurant. Excellent..

Honestly hands down best Chinese about

Prawn dimsum, duck pepper blackbeans sauce and the crab claws are lovely. The tofu szechuan is not spicy at all and it seems to be just cooked in sweet chilli sauce. A bit disappointed. Crab claws are not really crab claws. A mixture of crab and other seafood meat bound together with flour coated with bread crumbs. They're soft and crunchy at the same time, tastes a little bit like seafood sticks. Staff are great, friendly and efficient. Good place to have a family dinner, even with kids. The eating space is upstairs on 1st floor. On the ground floor looks like a waiting area (lobby) presumably for delivery service with no one manning it. Decor is over the top especially at the lobby with could put off potential customers.

Me and my boyfriend usually visit for dinner. We really like the atmosphere and well-maintained. The food is great we like dry hotpot. Only suggestion is it would be great if they offer jasmine boiled rice.

It’s ok. 7.50£ for six potstickers is a bit steep. Food is OK. Service is very friendly. Restaurant is very clean.

Try the pork belly. Really really nice. Will very much recommend this place. Nice, professional and helpful staff.

Staff were nice, but the food was like leftover from yesterday. Spicy fish tasted not spicy, steam bun was stale and dry. Not sure why it got so good reviews. Maybe it’s bad but still the best in Salisbury?? I dunno

The food we had was excellent, friendly service well done Great Wall . Just one small thing it is upstairs and the stairs are steep so able bodied only unless if there is a lift which I did not see.

Absolutely love this Chinese, no other Chinese in the area has the same dishes. Honey sesame chicken with chow mien is absolutely delicious!. Beautiful flavours and wonderful quality.

The food is very nice, a lot of options, it is worth to go there and to try different dishes until you find your favourite one. The service is good as well, you feel welcome by a typical family run restaurant. It is always better to reserve before, especially on weekends, they are very busy. The price is average, they don't do all you can eat

Great staff, food was average and quite pricey. £56 for myself and a 10 year old. We had a shared starter and a main each and sharing rice and chips. 6 chicken balls for £8.80 is too much

Food was amazing as always. Staff are lovely too. Portion are awsome to. I always get to take some home which I love as I get to have it for lunch the next day. We are most definitely going back

Fast delivery but sub par food. Overly salty (couldn’t eat the seaweed) no meat on ribs. Wouldn’t recommend or go back.

I went for the first time on Sunday with my girlfriend to buy takeaway food, I can honestly say that from now on this restaurant will be my number one in Salisbury, I strongly recommend it!

The worst Chinese I’ve ever had. I ate my Chinese around one hour ago. I am currently sat on the toilet. I wouldn’t bother guys and it costs a fortune.

Quick service and very friendly. The food is little bit pricy for a set menu but tasty. The atmosphere is nice and the place is clean.

Terrible. We’ve been before and was great. However tonight, all the starters and side of chips were burnt, and soggy. All the mains were cold. Refused to refund my card, either offering a credit note… clearly not going back, or wanting me to go down to the restaurant to pick up cash, there’s a Reason I got a delivery and why is it my job to go get a refund for they’re terrible food. Real shame. Ruined our night, half the meal went in the bin.

Friendly lady took our order. The food came quickly. We all enjoyed our food and would come again.

Ordered a few different dishes, bit in to a bit of chicken which has something brown in which really smelt bad. Was instantly sick. Called for a refund which was denied. Do not order here and beware of fake reviews

The food is authentic and delicious, catering for Ordinary English Chinese and Proper traditional food... the flavour is credible!! I use this chinese allot as its so good but what people don't know is if you go to the restaurant and eat in they have 2 menus.one is the normal menu which you'd get from the takeaway and the other is more authentic chinese with dim sum and loads of other dishes you can't get anywhere else.and it's so good.id highly recommended going and eating there to try the menu for yourself.also the portions are really good too.

First time ordering. I've really struggled to find a good Chinese since moving from birmingham but this place is absolutely up there with some of my home favourites. Had a takeaway and collected. Staff were really friendly when I arrived, food was absolutely lovely, the curry with fried rice was thick and full of flavour and the rest of my friends enjoyed their noodle and rice dishes too. I'll definitely be eating in their restaurant sometime soon after ordering as a takeaway.

Best Chinese food in Salisbury both restaurant and take away. Website ordering is so easy and gets delivered on time. Would not go anywhere else.

One night stay in Salisbury and found this Chinese restaurant. Food was excellent and rather large portions. Very friendly staff who look after us very well indeed. Would be a regular if we lived in the area.

We are new to the area and went here for dinner on Sunday evening. Was very impressed by the food and service, will definately be going back

2 weeks ago my wife and I held our wedding breakfast at this incredible venue. Whilst Chinese Restaurants are not normally the go to for wedding meals I cannot thank them enough. They went the extra mile to ensure everyone left with a full belly and a smile on their face. They set up the decorations for us and worked around our timings perfectly. I cannot thank them enough and couldn’t have wished for a better result. Highly highly recommend as the food was out of this world!

Superb. Ordered on Sunday and was hands down the best takeaway I have had in Salisbury. Finally! When the menu says its spicy it is, Superb! As we ordered from the website direct, I will be doing that again! Also will need to check out the restaurant! Thanks everyone at Great Wall. See you soon!

Had our third takeaway from here this evening (since opening). It was so disappointing and the worst I have had in quite some time. Such a shame. I thought we should try it again after our last takeaway from them was also disappointing and our much loved Hoi Fan was not open. Hoped the last order had been an off day but this was even worse. The Hong Kong style sweet and sour King prawns was like a basic, gloopy, sweet and sour. Heavy batter on the prawns, and just a few onions and pineapple pieces in the sickly, gloopy sauce. My son (who is a teenage dustbin!)l eft some of his roast duck chow mein and much of his chicken & sweetcorn soup. A total waste of £35 and not the celebration meal we had hoped for. The flavour of the chicken wings was good however.

What a treat, exceptional quality at very reasonable prices. The menu is excellent, western menu and a 'real' Chinese menu. The decor has a quirky charm that just adds to the experience. Looking forward to going again 😀

Rated 4.5 on Google at time of eating. I gave it a five to stop this being lowered. Good service. Food was really good. My only minor comment was the steamed buns filling seemed a bit dry. The prawn dumplings were perfect the lemon chicken batter was thin and crispy.Not greasy. Serving the lemon sauce separately was a great idea . The rice was good and all serving sizes reasonable. I can't relate to the previous reviews at all. I will be back. Oh finally there are 400 different items on the two menus. The cutlery was smart and served with a China rest. Tasteful .

Disappointed. Rated number 1 in Salisbury on trip advisor which is why we went for it. Excited to see crab claws and turned out for the price of a bottle of wine we had £2 deep fried reformed claws from Iceland! Chicken spring rolls were minscule! For the price a rip off and tasted very smoky and weird... Hubby had 4 prawns in his whole prawn curry. Think he was left hungry Upside noodles, fried rice and chips were good but left a little unhappy and very put of pocket.

We had a family take away, it was ok but not somewhere I would go again.

Great Chinese! Enjoyed this as a takeaway. Big portions, deliciously cooked meat, amazing sides and fantsstic sauces. Everything we ordered was lovely! For me the satay prawn main was the stand out. Often in a takeaway the prawns are overcooked, but not here, they were perfect. It also came in good time. Would definitely recommend!

Good handling of allergies and propper tasty Chinese Food. 5 stars if they confirm the ingredients to their vegetable spring rolls so we can enjoy them too.

Lovely meal good service and friendly staff

We were staying for a few nights and really fancied a Chinese. Glad we found this place. Very friendly. You do have to walk upstairs so be careful if not very mobile. We decided on set meal for 2 which included mixed starter of satay chicken prawn toast ribs mini rolls seaweed and curry triangles. We'll presented and a great start. Followed by crispy duck which came shredded. This was a good portion and delicious. Not too fatty at all. Mains were beef green pepper rice s&s chicken mixed vegetables. The portions were very substantial. What I liked is they also have dim sum (although limited) and many authentic style Chinese dishes which is on a separate menu although we went for typical Western food this time. Great hosts and welcoming. Nothing flashy as in trying to be up market. What they do is honest well done and good portions. Definitly go again if ever visit again.
