The best restaurants in Stroud South West

Had a takeaway meal which was very good - had to wait over an hour for food for 6 so manage your hunger and expectations! Sadly the restaurant was very empty (Saturday 8pm) but their takeaway service was brisk

Just EXCELLENT. Highly recommend chicked fried rice and sweet and sour chicken balls. Mmmmm

The first issue with the restaurant is lighting… If you have a window table, they are really dark and badly lit. They also have to shut the window blinds in the evenings because the house is being flood lit from outside - so the light would be too bright - which is a shame because you therefore can't actually look out of the windows in the evening. The second issue I have with this restaurant is the staff spend more time looking at their computers with their backs to all the guests - as if the computer is going to tell them how to give good customer service - when actually all they need to do is face their guests and keep their eyes open. I struggled several times to get the attention of any of the waiting staff. However, once you had their attention, the staff on the whole very friendly and helpful. Particularly the female breakfast staff. The third and most concerning thing about this restaurant is that I ordered something with a side of mashed potato and the mashed potato they gave me was obviously from a packet of powdered mashed potato; it was of a horrible texture and tasted disgusting. This is completely unacceptable for a restaurant at a Mercure hotel. Beware… The hotel also accepts dogs so I spent most of my dinner sitting listening to a dog yapping in the living room through the archway next door. If dogs are barking, the staff need to not ignore this and instead go and have a discreet word with the owner rather than allow them to disturb all the other guests. Not everybody likes dogs - and most people in any event don't want to hear dogs barking constantly while trying to eat their dinner. I don't often say this but I would not recommend until they change a few things.

Amazing burgers best we have ever had!! Not keen on burgers normally but this place came highly recommended so we thought we would try it,glad we did!!! The chef was lovely and helpful!!

Myself and family had a meal here last night and gotta say it was absolutely amazing!!! Not only was the food amazing the service and hospitality of all the staff was first class too !!! We were a big group of 18 with lots of young kids and the staff were very accommodating. Can’t recommend this place enough

When it’s open it’s ok. Seems to be run as a hobby though because the opening times are haphazard at best. Rubbish wine choice. Only a few beers available. God knows when the CAMRA award was given. No chance now. Avoid this pub and go elsewhere.

Came here for a celebration meal for a birthday so booked a table in advance. Overall the food was fantastic, really lovely food, we all enjoyed ours and my 3yo didn't complain either. So overall, really great to have a good meal. The issue was the service. It took us up to 15 minutes every time we wanted to order from the bar. There were only 2 people working behind and it was very busy. We waited 15 minutes to order our drinks, then 20 to just place an order for food. Whilst the actual service for food was really good, it was really off-putting being stood in a queue for ages. It would have perhaps been better to have one taking just drink orders and one sorting the food, perhaps? As at one point someone was placing an order for drinks and food for a table of 12, and at that moment there was only one behind the bar. So the queue was extremely long! That said though, great food. And everyone there was trying hard so can't fault the staff, just think they need more OR order at your table would really help! Update: Thank you for your response. We didn't know that we COULD order from the app however, no one told us and couldn't see it advertised. Perhaps something on the tables or when busy, staff could inform us? That would have saved a lot of people as so many were complaining. Great to hear we could have though.

Great atmosphere, food was fabulous and thank you Nathan our food service guy who was very helpful. Been several times and love it!

This is a nice place. Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Nice big garden out back. Staff friendly and welcoming. Not expensive. We didn't have food but did look really nice so will try next time. We walked along canal path to here from Gloucester which is a lovely walk. This is situated in Hardwicke on the canal. Easy to walk, drive or cycle to. It's nice and peaceful. Dogs welcome. It's nice to sit and watch the barges going up and down the river. Just relaxing place. The menu looks nice and reasonably priced. Will go again and recommend

Lovely pub with good beer. Went a few times for drinks, and once for food . The food was plentiful and good quality. Recommended.

We've enjoyed indian take aways & meals here before but today's wasn't good at all. The bhajis were stale, the curry's lacked taste and substance. What chicken that was in my dish was very dry and was clearly left over from the day before.

Went to call in for Lunch was all closed up looked like had been for good while just seen last review on here was march 2019 but looked as it had been closed longer ?

Popped in for a quick refreshment after a lovely walk with my partner and dog. Staff were super friendly engaging with us and our dog and even offered a treat for him which was a sweet gesture. Will definitely be back ❤️
