The Balti in Stroud

Waited ages from the point of ordering to find all of our curries were completely lacking in flavour - possibly the most bland, utterly tasteless 'curry' we have ever had ever. The Lamb Rogan Josh tasted like school dinners lamb casserole with chewy lumps of fat we had to repeatedly spit out, and the chicken pasanda was plain unmarried lumps of plain chicken just tossed in red colouring in a sickly a non-descript 'sauce' that we just couldn't eat. Popodums were given to us in broken bits with just one tub of watered down plain yoghurt (no mint). The only nice bit was the Peshawari Nann which was quite acceptable. The bill was on the pricey side, so for the meal to be of such grossly disappointing quality we really feel quite ripped off and upset. Absolutely will not ever be returning. I only wish I had looked at the other reviews before going as so many people saying the same thing. Just avoid.

The curry Chicken Bhuna was bland tasteless like water, the onion salad was appallingly cut and the mint raita was just plain yoghurt in a plastic cup. Crazy price for absolutely rubbish disgusting food pretending to be a good curry house??? Look else where!!

We love the Balti! It’s our favourite place to get a curry. We get takeaway, The food always tastes amazing, and stays hot!

Sloppy tasteless mush. Ordered a chicken korma, got coconut slop, with no other flavour. Very very dissatisfied. My partner ordered a more spicy dish….which was also tasteless, cornflour textured slop with a few veggies in. Never going back.

We had a takeaway last night. Chicken Rezala and Chicken Shaslik Mushroom. Pilau Rice and a Peshwari Naan. All absolutely delicious. Very pleased

The food is ok, classic Indian takeaway really. My question is why is this place always cash only? It's annoying having to go to a cash point first.

Really delicious food. It's bring your own booze if you're eating in, which is a bonus I think. A great takeaway too. Always delicious, always friendly. Highly recommend.

Staying in the area for a few days and this was one of the few restaurants open in Nailsworth on a Tuesday evening. We enjoyed our meal. The menu was varied with classic balti dishes, and house specials. Everything was cooked fresh and service was friendly. They were busy with take away orders so it seems that they are well supported locally. Worth noting that there is no alcohol served.

TERRIBLE! Food VERY average, no alcohol licence and claimed Internet connectivity not working so could we pay the almost £100 bill in cash! AVOID.....THERE MUST BE BETTER OPTIONS LOCALLY

I was going for dinner with a friend last night and was very disappointed to be told I couldn’t come in because I had my assistance dog with me. There was no one in the restaurant but they told me it was too small for an assistance dog. The staff were very unhelpful and rude about it. I’ve had many takeaways from here and it’s put me off a bit now. I went to the Italian Amalfi down the road instead and they were really accommodating and couldn’t do enough for me. Lovely food too!

We always come here for Indian food in Nailsworth. Friendly staff and good food. Bring your own booze if you eat in.

One of the worst Indian meals for a long time. Utterly tasteless. Overcooked. No saving graces. The restaurant was also cold. There must be better places nearby.

Couldn't even finish the meal. Sauce was so watery it could not have contained any fresh ingredients and the chicken was bone dry. We ordered two different 'specials' and both looked identical and tasted as poorly as the other. First and last visit but at least we gave it a go.

Went to The Balti in Nailsworth whilst up for the racing @ Cheltenham. The food was faultless, the waiters were very friendly & accomodating. Lovely atmosphere, will definitely be going there again.

First class service and food again. Four totally satisfied customers. Nailsworth is fortunate to have the Balti along with our other eating places.

This place deserves top marks. I have had 2 from this place now both were beautiful. It must be top quality and fresh ingredients and you can see the super clean kitchen and chefs cooking away. I had a chicken madras and it was hot like it should be but not with an overpowering chilli hot like you can get.

Mi familia y yo tuvimos la peor comida india para llevar, siempre he tenido mi vida, desde este lugar. Si no pudiera darle estrellas, lo haría. Aparte de los poppadoms que eran muy buenos para ser justos, la comida era pésima. Por ejemplo, el Panir Tikka no tenía Panir en él, solo asqueroso queso derretido en un estofado de verduras demasiado especiado de algún tipo. Cada plato no era apetitoso y tuvo que ser arrojado a la basura. Algunos platos tenían coles de Bruselas que sabían como sobras recalentadas con algunas especias sutiles añadidas. Nos cobraron 58 por nuestra comida y nos cobraron 4 por los precios en el menú de comida para llevar. No puedo describir lo decepcionado y enojado que me siento por el estándar de la comida que recibimos.

One of my favourite restaurants for a takeaway or a sit-down meal. Always a friendly welcome and always great food. the menu is very varied. If you are dining in don't forget to bring your own bottle as only soft drinks are sold.

Tuvimos una excelente comida aquí con mi esposa la semana pasada, la comida y el servicio eran buenos, con un personal amable y servicial. Hay una gran cantidad de alimentos sabios, incluidos aquellos con alergias alimentarias o de persuasión vegana / vegana. El Balti se ha mudado recientemente de nuevo después de un grave incendio hace un año o más. Sin embargo, una cosa era desconcertante, la nueva decoración es muy blanca con nuevas puertas de madera clara y vidrio que lo hacen sentir como si estuviera cenando en un edificio de oficinas completamente nuevo. Now re opened at The Vault, have a drink while you wait, cocktails are great. Had a take away. Food absolutely fantastic as always so glad it has opened again. Staff always friendly and helpful.

Great restaurant take your own wine we had a great meal at a good price highly recommend if you did not know it was there you could miss it round the side of the dry cleaners up stairs

As vegetarians it’s hard to find a great tasting curry, we were so pleased to find that they do quorn and vegetable options on most of their dishes. We ordered food for takeaway and it was amazing, good value for money and tasted fantastic. Also to the person who said you can’t pay on card, I had no problem with that! Will definitely be coming again.

Living in the area I have visited this balti many times! If you have a sit down meal it, as with many curry houses is much better than the takeaway. The food is always of a good standard land the staff very friendly! If I’m the area I would definitely recommend you visit the nailsworth balti.

Was a regular customer here years ago, used to be a consistently good meal. Haven't been to balti for 4-5 years as food became poor back around then

Good food, good service, good atmosphere in an early Saturday evening. Dined at table and shared 4 different main courses between our group. Great portions, all positive.

Disgusting food - badly heated from jars! Every dish looked the same and tasted the same. Would NEVER return

I eat at the Balti on a regular basis and generally find the food to be consistent and there is a good selection on the menu. We normally go during the week are able to get a table but I recommend booking just to be sure. Definitely book if a Friday or Saturday.

Cebolla bhajis eran grasienta y sin sabor, la salsa de menta era delgada, y contenidos sin rastro de menta. Una vez aquí, los platos estaban caracterizadas por el generoso y porciones de carne bien cocinada y la riqueza de las salsas o salsas. Por desgracia, la última noche de mi pollo Borhani, contenía 5 pequeñas piezas de pollo en salsa de finas, aguada y bastante desagradable. Mi pan naan era grueso y duro y el hongo bhaji, nuevo contenidos demasiado líquido. Si tengo que añadir, que la comida se tradujo en una noche muy incómoda, entenderemos por qué no volver jamás.

Unfortunately we cannot recommend the food here. My dish arrived tasting like they had poured a cup of sugar into it and my husbands was not much better. Quite expensive for what you get.

we went for a meal early on Tuesday we have been many times before it is the best indian restaurant that we have come across !! we both had a starter and main course chicken main meal it was first class piping hot and wonderful We have always paid by card and never had a problem .service was very good and a very good price at 38 pounds.We also had our own wine and we asked for glasses and we had no problem we had wine glasses well done will return very soon.

We ordered a take away and the food was great however they will not take card they want cash only! This has been the third time of them wanting cash only!!! Such an inconvenience! Something strange going on!!!

I'm sorry to say that we did not have a positive experience at The Balti. We had a takeaway that was not cheap but was watery and tasteless. What's worse - much worse - is that there were prawns in one of the chicken dishes (as another reviewer had also experienced) - beware those with a shellfish allergy. This was our first order - we shan't be going back.

Not sure what has happened at Balti recently. Food is ok although seems to have lost some 'richness' recently and even on average evenings it is slow. Recent order missed rice dish and naan which is a pain but not enough to do the return trip over. Time to try elsewhere.......

I was really impressed. The restaurant is small but does the job. The menu is clear and the staff are happy to discuss the dishes. The owner was extremely attentive and clearly very proud of his restaurant. The phone didn't stop ringing so clearly there's a great take away business as well.The food was delicious and great value.Great restaurant.

We've had a take away from here a few times. It's terrific. Definitely a great place to have a take away.

Always good food here, with friendly staff. Nearly all dishes have a vegetarian option, often with Quorn. Don't serve alcohol but happy for you to bring your own. No large tables but that means no loud groups either! By far the best Indian in Nailsworth.

I have been to the Balti many times over the years as it is a convenient local restaurant. There is always a concern when an Indian restaurant has a very extensive menu because you know that not everything is not going to be cooked fresh. I must say that generally the meats appear to be freshly cooked and are not dry and hard which can be a problem.Generally the food at the Balti is of a reasonable quality and you can dine in or order a take away. The Balti used to be licences but ceased to be so in 2014. There is a supermarket very close by which stays open quite late. Being non-licenced brings the price of the meal down, you just have to remember to bring something. The Balti does sell non-alcoholic beer and soft drinks.On my last visit we asked for wine glasses and were appalled when given cheap plastic ones which were awful to drink out of. When I asked why there were no glasses the waiter said it saved them on washing up. It really brings the tone of the place down. So if you want to drink out of glasses take your own. It is a very strange step for the restaurant to take not providing glassware and I am sure a lot of people will be put off.I am sure if enough diners complain, glassware will be reinstated.There is plenty of parking outside the Balti. The meals are reasonably priced.

Now, don't get me wrong. we rate Nailsworth Balti. It's a great restaurant and take away. Quick and efficient - and tasty. But what is it with their global mango chutney shortage??? Last three times we ordered a take away, we've had raita, lime pickles - sometimes double portions of lime pickles - and onion mix. But, where, oh, where, is the mango chutney? Have mango commodities gone through the roof? What could be the reason???

The Balti provided outside catering for a family birthday party we were having. The food was excellent, from the fabulous starters (highly recommend the vegetable pakoras) to the veggie balti and the chicken Murga. Lovely naan breads, poppadums and rice. More than enough food for everyone and us all again the next day!

We frequent the Balti often. Lovely food every time, friendly and quick service. The food isn't swimming in grease unlike the other restaurant. We have a laugh with the staff and are always made to feel welcome. Overall excellent food and service. We wouldn't go anywhere else :)

As a local I have regularly eaten from the Balti. This is my go to takeaway! They make my favourite chicken korma, the naan bread is the best I have tasted and the mixed grill is never disappointing. Reasonable price too. The service is never friendly, but that doesn't effect me just taking the good food away!

I have eaten at the Balti on many occasions and have found it to be very reasonably priced and the food is of a consistent quality. They have an extensive menu and a relatively small kitchen which means that the sauces are pre made which is fine as long as the flavour is there. I eat a lot of curry at various restaurants and a problem you sometmes have is that the meats are cooked in advance and then sauce is added to order. The result can be dried out pieces of meat but I can say this has not been the case at the Balti in recent times and the meat is still moist. The Balti is not licenced which is great so you can take your own alcohol which brings down the price of the meal. there is a supermarket around the corner which stays open until nine pm so you can buy there. Price wise the Balti is reasonable and not one of those places you think twice about because of cost. I ceratinly would advise booking in advance.The Balti is a relatively small restaurant but can take groups. You would just need to phone and confirm they can accommodate the numbers you have and book a table. The Balti is very popular for takeaways.

We were staying in the area, so popped in because it was close to the hotel. We were the only ones in there. The waiter hardly spoke to us and i was glad i had read in reviews to take my own wine. I liked my curry. It was very tasty. My partners curry was supposed to be hot but it wasn't at all. So he wasn't very impressed. The rice portions are very small and the naan bread was strange. It tasted like a cheesy, garlic pizza! Very odd!

A longish wait to be seated although there were several free tables - the staff seemed to be concentrating on take-away orders. Poppadoms with relishes were charged extra. The menu sounds amazing and it was hard to choose from such a variety of interesting sounding dishes, many more than the usual range in Indian restaurants, they certainly are not limited to Baltis. However the results when they finally arrived were not so interesting - my mixed 'vegetables' were 90% potato, in large chunks, and not even tasty potato, while the sauce was sickly sweet. Rice which cost extra even with main dishes was a small portion. So we didn't think it was good value, especially compared with the Rajdoot in nearby Stroud. The place is not atmospheric, either - a face-lift is overdue.NB no alcohol is served but you can bring your own booze and no corkage is charged, which is positive in my book and gets an extra star. We went for the Cobra non-alcoholic beer they offered, but it tasted nothing like beer (or other non-alcoholic beers we had tried before) and we wouldn't choose it again!

Our curry club visited here. They accommodated a large group easily.Food was good and the company even better. The staff were very helpful.

The food is nice and the staff were very accomodating for my vegan diet and were honest about what their food is cooked in (I know other resturants that have lied about the Ghee). Good service and good value.

We go here on a weekly basis, and just about every dish we've had has been really good. You're not paying for fancy decor, but what you get is home-made food and very good service - not waiting around for ages before you get even a starter! Alcohol is not sold, but you can take your own. The staff are always pleasant and friendly - we're so lucky to have this in Nailsworth!

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that there was a Quorn substitute available for most of the meat dishes. The food was very good and service was friendly. A real find!

We have been using The Balti for years , both the restaurant and takeaway and would not dream of going anywhere else. The staff are always so helpful and polite. They manage to be totally flexible when adjusting 'spicyness' for the children or how well-done I might like my nan breads - frankly I'd crawl over hot coals for a well-done Disha nan (it's both keema and garlic rolled into one!)The atmosphere when dining in is just what an Indian restaurant should be - welcoming and full of fantastic smells (and odd coloured carpets and curtains!)

Weekly takeaway and regular family meals eating in, always excellent. Fantastic choice for both vegetarian and non vegetarian. Food is superb and staff always helpful and friendly.
