Wow. We came here for what we hoped would be a beautiful dinner in the quaint location of nailsworth. We know our curry pretty well as we are part of a curry club that has been running for 15 years. Service was great and we were looked after well. However that is where the positives ended. Atmosphere was zero. We were there on a Saturday night with no other diners in the restaurant. No music for ambiance. Three main meals ordered and two were incorrect. I mean how the chuff can you mess up two out of three mains in an empty restaurant! I’m sorry to rant but the fact this place was empty is a pretty good reason for it not existing as a business. Final bill was cheap due to having to bring our own beer from Tesco next door. Please try harder. Or maybe go and eat at other restaurants to see how businesses are ran.

Terrible.stale popadoms, dry overcooked chicken, cold food. Such a shame. Used to be great. Very sad to see its decline. Won’t be returning

Love this place! We sat and ate inside, the restaurant is so clean and it’s obviously very well cared for. The staff were really friendly and polite, and made my partner something slightly off the menu as he said it was something he liked. The food was excellent and it’s a great price. A really great evening thank you ☺️

Ate here this evening, I ordered off menu and they accommodated. Both mine and my partners food was exemplary! Ingredients we're notably fresh, bursting with flavour. Peshwari naan, one of the best I've had. Will definitely be back. Service was faultless also, very friendly staff

I love the starters and sundries here. Either sit-in or takeaway, two starters and two sundries make for taste sensations! Staff are very polite and the service is quite quick. (Their Chicken Pakora starter is the BEST!)

Lovely staff. Food good. Right down the middle. Sadly, ordered takeaway and told 20 mins. Was more like just over 50 minutes. They did apologise and offer a drink on the house. Told problem with the oven. Fair enough. Great until arrived home and lamb rogan Josh was chicken dish. Nice but not what ordered. With just a little more effort and this place will be great

Well, how do I begin 🤔 curries, tasteless, went cold quickly as was cold inside restaurant, might have helped if the plates had been warmed, couldn't believe lack if flavour, just wish we had read the reviews before going. Dirty plates left at end of table, lychee and mango on menu, but neither available, requested two icecreams one turned up, wouldn't go again, definitely wouldn't recommend

Enjoyed a meal at the passage to India for the first time in about 15 yrs, overall experience was fine, the food adequate, service reasonable. My only complaint would be that the decor is rather dated and the lighting a little harsh. There is no liquor licence so you need to bring your own drinks. This is actually good as you could then enjoy a good bottle of wine at a sensible price.

Don’t often share reviews but was quite shocked by this meal. The food was okay, quick turn around on the take away order which was good. Sat down to eat at home and tucked into an onion baji, not expecting there to be a PIECE OF GLASS in there. Not exactly what you want from a £30 meal. AVOID!

Ordered a lamb bhuna and the receipt said ‘mutton’. Once home tried the meat and was really tough, so was 100% mutton. I’m not one to go into a restaurant and order mutton by accident instead of lamb. False advertising, hate being lied to! The curries were both really salty and couldn’t tell which was which as tastes both the same. Ordered a garlic nan and received a plain. Wouldn’t go back, wouldn’t recommend

Sadly tried Passage for this first time tonight. Ordered a Lamb bhuna but the receipt said Mutton? The meat was tough as leather boots, very disappointing. Ordered garlic Nan but received plain. Cheap take away (£10 per person) but quality was still exceptionally poor and wouldn’t return.

We had a takeaway last night and it was great. Food was cooked really well and it was made quickly. Will definitely be back soon

Food was very nice, we shared two mains, rice and garlic naan between two of us after a starter of poppadoms with pickles and that was more than enough. Service was good and the young lady looking after us was attentive and friendly. It was reasonably quiet, but it was only 7pm on a Saturday evening.

I've always wanted to try this place due to the length of time this establishment has been open. I had very high expectations.. Well what can I say? I took my wife out for our 20th wedding anniversary, and was extremely disappointed. Flavourless sauce, dry hard meat, and onion bhajis cooked on the surface of the sun. Quite possible the worst Indian I have ever eaten.

Been using the Passage for 25 years, still remains the best Indian Food in the Stroud valleys by a country mile! 100 % recommended

Crikey, what can I say- pretty poor. Hadn’t been for a good few years and everything was the very same- like time had stood still. To be fair the starters and Nan bread were ok but the four curries were pretty poor. Got there at 9pm, the owner turned the lights and indoor fountain (that must be 30 years old) off at 10pm. Time to leave!

Very disappointing evening! Staff members uninterested, and one of our party who had the Tandoori Grill said it was very overcooked. Wont be back again!

Have been going to this restaurant for fourty years which I’d when it first opened and we first arrived in the cotswolds . When we first went you had to book up two weeks in advance just to get in it was so sort after . YeRs went by times were good and times were bad and some how they managed to get back on top and survive . With the effects of Covid the changed to take away only in order to survive and I for one was convinced this is all they were doing for the last twelve months . But alas after making the effort to make the call to check they are I found out open to bookings . I urge anyone that loved the place to give them the support and help them get back to the amazing first class restaurant that they were for so many years in able to get back up there by booking your night out there snd enjoying what delights they have to offer . We did it tonight for my husbands birthday going over fond memories and I hood with the support of many regulars they used to have that we can get the magic that was the passage to j fia back again and we can all have a bloody good night out once again. Give us your support give us a chance let’s do it for them like they did it for years for us ,

Visiting supporter at the Forest Green v Charlron match on 14 Feb 23. Owner/waiter was attentive and service was quick. Food was superbly presented and tastes fresh. Set me up well for that walk up the hill to the stadium!

I have been visiting this place for years with my 2 sons. We always get a nice welcome and the food is lovely. People enjoy very much here and they can get a bit loud talking and laughing! That’s the only downside. People don’t dress up for this restaurant. It’s a shame really as the food would easily command the respect. Clean toilets and parking close by. Prices are ok - not cheap but fair. It’s a really nice place to visit.

The only reason I didn't give 5 star is that I asked the guy about his naan bread options, he told me about a spicy one but didn't mention it's with meat inside - I don't eat meat. It should've been stated there or he should've told me. I was charged for the naan anyway

At the moment they supply excellent take away but I hope they return to a restaurant service soon. A friendly and hard working ream. Highly recommended.

Honestly. Don't bother. The quality of the food is low. Reconstituted chicken meat, stale flatbreads.

The Passage has always been a great Indian restaurant. Although just take away at present the food is still of the very best quality. Hopefully the restaurant will open again soon.

Spent £32 last night as a valentine's meal and I was so disappointed, the curries had no taste to them at all, the chips were cold and the onion Bhajis were so dry. So dissatisfied as I've ordered from here before and it was much better than this, can't say I will be going again anytime soon.

Emphasis on takeaway food is dominant now and is excellent. There is a fully available restaurant but Covid-19 has restricted its use.

Excellent meals. We had chicken korma, vegetable balti , Murgh jali, begun bahar and all were devoured quickly. Excellent service. We will be back.

Really disappointed, ordered a takeaway this evening which was meant to include a portion of onion bhajis which they’d forgotten from the previous time we ordered here. Not only were the onion bhajis missing from our order AGAIN but also all the sauces were missing which were meant to come with the poppadoms! And our naan bread was so burnt we couldn’t eat it! Won’t be ordering from here again!

Difficult to rate as restaurant closed only collection but thoroughly enjoyed my meal, had a house special, sorry can't remember name of dish, but it was lovely. Will use again when I visit Nailsworth again

Staying in the area so ordered a takeaway on the phone. It was great- very polite gentleman took my payment when I went to pick it up, it was ready on time. We all thought the food was delicious- not at all greasy, and very nice. Enjoyed it and would recommend!

chips were raw and soggy - went straight in the bin. bombay aloo was watery and tasteless. extremely dissapointing

Best chicken Madras around! Very friendly staff. Proper distinction between the dishes from different regions - rather than the same sauce at different chilli temperatures. Highly recommended.

We ordered last night, all looked good but upon eating the rice was greasy and the chicken tasted like it had just been dumped in the sauce, I had chicken chilli and my partner had mutton korma, we both started getting the sweats not long after and my partner was sick. Would steer clear

Passage has reopened for takeaways recently. Had takeaway meal this evening and the food was exceptional, meat was succulent and food had a lovely depth of flavour. Thank you for a delicious takeaway, please keep this standard up and you will reap the benefits

For me the rice was under cooked and food was tasteless .sad it used to be very good place.

We ordered a takeaway early on New Year’s Eve knowing it would be busy later on .When I collected restaurant was very busy indeed .In the back of my mind I wondered if they would let the standards drop because of it .Well it was absolutely bang on all six of us commented on how nice tasty and fresh each dish was clean plates all round .We have since been back on a Saturday night and the service and food was once again very tasty with good portion sizes and reasonably priced and you take your own alcohol so makes it a great good value night out .

Visited mid-week with group of dads from school. Made us very welcome, food very good and BYO format makes for a very reasonable priced night out. Recommended.

Having frequented the Passage to India for many years, we were disappointed to say the least. The take Away food we ordered was tasteless, lacking in authenticity, boring, a total waste of thirty pounds. I would go so far as to say the restaurant should be closed down. What it provides is rubbish

They handled our pre-arranged large group pretty well but I'm pretty sure some of my order vanished but given how long it took to distribute our huge order I didn't bother mentioning it. Food was good I think but not my cup of tea.

Garlic fried rice was burnt, all pieces of garlic were black and hard. The decor is dated.

Went today for a light lunch and to warm up from the cold. Greeted by friendly staff smiling and happy. Ordered 1 main 2 breads 1 rice and 1 side to share between us and it was all perfect... Fresh hot and arrived in 25 minutes. All tasted individual and special. We left very impressed and very full. Well done Thank you team. The decor and skirting boards need a freshen up and there was a slightly off putting smell of bleach throughout but those were minor points. The music was nice and authentic and we will return and would highly recommend to our friends.

My god! Chicken is so hard!? Fair play ive had worst curries but the chicken is appalling! Naan and bhajis standard. The raita wasnt yogurt by the looks of it? I can make far better curries than this at home using the same methods! Poor

This is a slightly scruffy Indian restaurant in the centre of Nailsworth. It has recently stopped serving alcohol, allowing customers to bring their own, to the undoubted delight of the manager of Tesco Express next door. The service is slow and patchy. With a lot of take-away orders to cope with, the few staff on duty were slightly overwhelmed, and the diners seemed abandoned at times.The food was nothing to get excited about. As in many Indian restaurants, the meat had been pre-cooked, ready to drop in the chosen sauce when we ordered, making the chicken dry and the lamb very tough and chewy. The sauces, we suspected, were not freshly made, the colour alone of the Jera Gosth was suspicious. The onions in the Chicken Jaliferoz weren't cooked, still crunchy.Unlikely to return.

My favorite local Indian. We go here about once a fortnight and the food just gets better and better. A bottle from next door helps keep the price down. I see some people have moaned about the time it takes to get served, but this is because the food is cooked fresh and not out of a Brakes tupperware via a microwave like some places. Enjoy.

We always use this local Indian Restaurant as it has the finest food around. Staff are always very pleasant. Please be advised they do not sell alcohol in line with the owners beliefs.

Hadn't been here for ages - not sure why. Was good food - only had two veggie dishes - but both were really good. Not expensive - especially as you can take in your own alcohol - but not soft drinks.

Siempre amable y nos ha servido excelentes curries cada vez que he estado allí. BYO para el alcohol es una ventaja total también. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente.

The service here was a bit on the rushed side. This was not because they were busy (because they were not) its just because they wanted to shut up early. This place is not licensed but you can bring your own from the Tesco metro next door. The food was so so and nothing special.

This was our favourite Indian restaurant. Last night we had a takeaway and the quality of the food was pretty awful. Each dish tasted the same and the chicken was overcooked and really tough. Such a shame, get your act together Passage you were excellent, don't lose your credibility.

I love Indian food and we often order a take away from here and the food is always good and cannot fail there. We decided to go and eat in and discovered that the staff were really friendly and attentive. Not interrupting, but were there when needed, which was great. Wish I could go there more often.

The food was good, particularly the starter and the Murgh Jalali a chef's special was excellent as usual. Service was a bit slow despite being a midweek meal. BOYB (bring your own bottle) saves being ripped off for drinks!!

Very good food, went with 2 friends and there grandson. Not to bad the staff, but could of been abit more relaxed. But overall very nice, I would go again. Lived in Nailsworth for 12 years and never been in there before. Now I will. If drinking liqueur must take your own. 😎

The food is ok, but the service here is non existent. You feel like you're impeaching on their time. Asked for a wine glass. "It's over there". Etc..No service with a smile, no 'how was your meal'. Poor dining experience.

We were looked after well, all food freshly cooked. Diana's prawn dish at £13 however, contained just two prawns. My dish of chicken phal was very short of sauce. It was about vindaloo hot, so rather disappointing. Rice and naans were fine. My other two guests enjoyed their dinners.

I think it's blatantly obvious and fair to say that the people complaining about this restaurant are the kind of people to order a chicken tikka and think they are the kind of India... the food is superb, good staff and there is nothing wrong with it. Yes the buildings old but that's just evidence they know how to keep a good business running.

The atmosphere is eclectic and authentic, if a bit aged. It could do with an update to decor. The staff are always helpful and available. My drink has almost never gone empty. The food is delicious. As Indian food goes in the Harrisburg area, it is by far my favorite.

Like going back to the 70's, very good food, bring your own wine...chairs could do with reupholstering, but love the rest of the decor. Staff very young but polite and cheerful. Been twice, will be back.

Here on holiday and have used the takeaway service twice, having previously enjoyed it when here two years ago. First telephone order had a couple of omissions but they were immediately corrected, and second order was complete and promptly produced at the time promised. Good quantities and quality of food-tried several dishes and all have been well received. Service has been friendly each time. Restaurant always looks very quiet but would happily eat there if I didn't have dogs. No complaints at all.

One of my favourite places to eat when visiting Stroud. Never a bad meal. Excellent menu, imaginative and beautifully prepared. Attentive staff (though not overly so). A well-deserved success.

I have been to the Passage to India many times over the years but due to variable food quality and management attitude stopped going. After a long absence I have been there a couple of time recently.

Had been to this restaurant before and it was previously okay. This time I was v. disappointed - they got my starter wrong and didn't supply an additional plate when my friend and I shared a different one, despite us stating we were sharing when we ordered. The onion bhajis were dry (had poss. been re-heated?) and the chicken tikka pieces were also dry and chewy. They did not at any point offer us a jug of water (which I spotted at another table) as they were v. keen to plug their expensive 'soft drinks' instead - water wasn't even given as an option, unlike in many other restaurants. My main course was the nadir of the meal; I'd ordered king prawn curry and the dish contained just 2 king prawns, and they were both chewy, i.e. overcooked! How the hell do you overcook a prawn?!! Not pleasant at all (no depth of flavour or complexity to the sauce, of which there was a LOT) and def. not worth £13... I would happily pay a bit more for a decent king prawn curry but this was not even decent, it was barely edible. The waiters hovered, which I deliberately ignored as they were nowhere near full and I wanted to chat with my friend. When I was asked at the end what I thought of my meal I was honest about my disappointment and was told that the prawns were £3 each, as if that justifies only getting 2. The whole experience was unpleasant and I will never be going there again.

We have been using this restaurant for a while now and the food is usually very good. However its now looking tired and could do with a makeover as most others have. Also the attitude of the staff is not so good. They are not very welcoming and every visit could be our first, they just don't recognise you and give you a warm welcome. Comments such as "Thanks for coming back" or "Nice to see you again" would be good but its always the same dreary, don't care attitude.The staff are all the same, they come over to the table and dump the food down without any refinement. The only waiter with a positive attitude is the young English chap! As they are currently the only curry restaurant in Nailsworth (the other one burnt down and I hope it returns), perhaps they should improve their customer service. However I doubt this will happen as they don't even respond to these reviews.We will have to consider whether or not we return but \I don't suppose they are in the least bit bothered if we don't, however there are plenty in the area who appreciate our custom a bit more than the Passage..
