Service was good and quick, games provided but was quite expensive for a round of drinks. Strange vibe inside but might appeal for certain people.

Lovely Sunday lunch out at this lovely old fashioned hotel the mushrooms on toast where very tasty the Sunday roast very good and served at my request on hot plates the only thing letting it down it takes a long time to bring mustard/horse radish sauce why do they not serve it when they bring mains out service was good

A wonderful and relaxing restaurant with fine views out towards the common and down the valley. It's very well appointed and was set for breakfast immaculately. Service was professionall and delivered with a smile. We both had the Avo with poached eggs....delicious, healthy and filling.

Lovely Sunday lunch out at this lovely hotel as I do not eat cheese they did a dish of cauliflower for me all was tasty and hot even the plate the service was top marks

We went here for a family lunch after a walk on the common. Good selection on the menu, staff were friendly. The food was ok.

We brought family here on Easter Saturday. It was our first visit which we were looking forward but we were underwhelmed. The restaurant was empty as the garden was packed in the good weather and service suffered inside as the team seemed focused on the garden. We ordered our drinks but they never came. We had to chase them to be told the ticket was lost so they had to start over. Food took about 40 minutes to arrive. One meal arrived and it was several minutes until the rest arrived leaving an awkward pause. The club sandwich was disappointing. We asked for very crispy bacon and it was not. It was very pale and limp. Not much filling in the sandwich in any layer. The others in the group enjoyed their meals especially the venison bourguignon. The bill came with service added which we asked to be removed as it didn’t feel warranted. All in all a disappointing experience for something which should have been a lovely treat for visiting family

We have many times eaten in the restaurant and for mostly very good the food is good we all had the Sunday roast plenty of fresh vegetables beautiful roast beef the service was not great had to wait for steak knives 2 missing Yorkshire puddings all in all I think they need to train the younger waiting staff

11 of us had a family lunch at The Bear yesterday, the table was booked for 1pm somebody came and gave us menus at 1-20pm, all drinks had to be purchased from the bar. Eventually our order was taken by the miserable and unhelpful young lady, food was served at approx 1.50pm. The food was nice enough but really overpriced for what you get. The added service charge was a laugh as we didnt really get any service, or nothing that would make me want to leave a tip. I worked in the hotel, pub trade for over 30years as a manager, and in my opinion this place is very expensive, with staff that need more training in customer service. Not anywhere i would recommend or want to visit again

A weird atmosphere - eerily quiet, and suspicious that such a beautiful spot should have availability for sunday lunch at no notice, when all the pubs nearby were full... Then we found out why... First off, the waiting staff were really nice, and doing their best under very difficult circumstances. When we arrived, my daughter was starving, I asked if we could have some bread and butter while we waited for the food to arrive. I asked 3 times before it finally arrived, 2 minutes before the food itself. We had waited 20 minutes for 2 slices of Hovis brown bread. This didn't bode well. A lack of vegetarian options on the menu, but fine. The vegetarian main was advertised on the menu as a butternut squash and feta wellington. So imagine our surprise when a wellington arrived comprised entirely of lentils. When we asked, the waitress (who was fab) apologised, went into the kitchen to find out what had happened, and returned with the baffling answer that the chef said it was indeed butternut squash and feta, but it was "blended in". It obviously wan't the case (who would blend feta and butternut squash and stir that into whole lentils?!) so why would the chef say that? Add to this that "triple cooked chips" definitely weren't (standard, average chips), the veg on the roasts were so underdone as to be raw, and the yorkshire puddings were bone dry (definitely been sat out for a good long while - and we had ordered by midday...!). The waitress (again, fantastic) removed everything we asked from the bill, and apologised profusely. She must have been really embarrassed to have to repeat the chef's obvious nonsense to us. If you haven't got the ingredients to make what's on the menu - absolutely no problem - tell the waiting staff if you can't reprint the menu. Don't tell us that something is what it says on the menu when it obviously isn't. Such a shame - with this beautiful building in such a stunning location this could be a world-leading, destination restaurant. But I've had more pleasant dining experiences in motorway service stations.

My father & I had an evening meal, the main was ok and I was looking forward to the Rum Baba for afters. Sadly it had no rum in it. We mentioned to the waitress who said she would pass our comments onto the chef. She came back & said that he doesn’t like customers criticising his food & so they couldn’t give us any money off, but could give us a free round of drinks or remove the service charge……all of this is wrong on so many levels. The waitress was lovely and was put in an awkward position by the chef, I was driving so couldn’t have another drink so our only choice was to not let the staff share the service charge!? In this day & age where feedback is so important, to ignore it means you do so at your peril. It’s a shame as it would have cost your business next to nothing to put this right, instead I feel so annoyed that I needed to write this review and share with hundreds of others that will read it and you will never know how much business you will have lost for the sake of a fiver. Management need to sort. What a shame.

Have to say a lot better than my last visit the crab starter was excellent had asked for rare roast beef a bit over done nicely seaasoned and had asked for a hot plate thankfully got one plenty of fresh vegetables all nice cooked very tasty gravy much inproved fron last time also the service was spot on thanks for a lovely Sunday lunch

Please do not come here for a meal….. I actually have no words but terrible, they really need some series training here! So upset with our last night visiting my dad! Another table also complained, there was only 3 tables in the restaurant at the time! Two meals arrived after I’d paid the bill!?? No communication, raw chips, raw chicken, I understand staff can be tight during these times but there were 3 girls in the floor! For the price you charge you really need to please people more and do something about this place! I outright refused to pay full price and told them I’d pay with 50% off the bill, I have never done that to any place I’ve been before!

We had lunch booked inside but chose to eat outside as was such nice weather. We were really warmly greeted and sat down in the immaculate pavilion garden. We had excellent, friendly service throughout from a lady who’s name we didn’t get but I think she must have been a manager, and a young man. I had the fish and chips which were very good, especially liked the minted peas. The wine (Pinot Grigio) was excellent; light with a nice flavour. The coffees were very good and liked the touch of shortbread biscuit. The whole place is so well maintained and lovely. Ample parking and access to lovely walks pre or post meal. Highly recommended.

We had dinner here - warm homemade bread to start, a nice choice of mains and then fine dining desserts. Would recommend a window seat at dusk, can't beat the Cotswold views. Stunning.

A large group of us (20 people) dined at The Bear one Sunday lunchtime and I can honestly say, without exception, every meal that was brought out from the kitchen I thought "ooh, that looks good". There was not one complaint and everyone sent back cleared plates. We even asked our club secretary when can we come again please!

This is a lovely venue and restaurant, but the food was a let down. Sunday roast , I was disappointed, food looked nice, but the pata was tasteless, and the main course was warm, and the vegetables almost cold ! The gravy was watery and to top it off two small pieces of roast potato. The roast beef looked good, but the pork had a different texture, and I was really not sure how it had been cooked, but the crackling was soft ! , so not in a hot oven ! Sticky toffee pudding was reheated in a microwave, as it has been left into long and was hard on the out side. We had a nice greeting from the staff, but they were not very attentive once we sat down and to get extra gravy took time, it was not offered. Staff really were not very attentive at all. Overall , the venue is lovely but the food was a massive disappointment. Won’t be rushing back , have had much nice Sunday lunches in local pubs in the past.

He estado un par de veces y me pareció muy decepcionante, esta vez los entrantes de salmón ahumado eran excelentes, pan cálido, buen toque, los asados se servían en platos tibios tibios, nada estaba condimentado, la carne de res que pedí era rara, estaba mejor bien hecho y las papas asadas tibio servicio excelente la comida bien no tan bueno como las últimas veces también no sirven verduras de temporada tuvimos coliflor brocali y zanahorias donde estaban las judías verdes? ? ? y sopa de chirivía para empezar en verano? ?

El Pavillion at the Bear at Rodborough es un área realmente relajada para relajarse de una noche. Hay un bar al aire libre, una gran cantidad de mesas con sombrillas y muchas cosas que hacer de forma gratuita, como tenis de mesa, futbolín o el gigante Connect Four. Reservé una mesa para 2 en domingo de Pascua. Estaba llena. La gente estaba disfrutando del clima. Teníamos una mesa reservada en el restaurante. El servicio era de primera clase. La comida estaba deliciosa. Salmón ahumado con pan recién horneado, seguido de cordero con aceite de oliva. la rara carne asada con un montón de verduras frescas y la mejor salsa servida en un plato caliente, maravilloso almuerzo

Cena refinada con excelente comida y servicio de Petra y su equipo. El restaurante de la biblioteca estaba tranquilo, siendo un lunes. Disfrutamos comenzando con vieiras con lentejas spicead y una tarta de queso feta de cebolla. Los platos principales fueron colas monkifish condimentadas con limoncillo y una tierna pechuga de pato rosa con salsa de mora. Finalmente fondant de chocolate con helado de café crujiente. Todo sirvió tan rápido como quisimos.Pensé que era un buen valor para la calidad de la cocina

Restaurant atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, but not restrained. The views from the windows were stunning, especially as the sun set over the common. I had the sea trout, which was perfectly cooked and just the right size for a main meal. My friend enjoyed her pork but as it comes with a lot of veg and mash, it is not for small appetites. We both went for the treacle tart to finish, which was very sweet. Service was polite and unobtrusive. We are looking forward to a return visit.

This is a traditional restaurant overlooking local countryside. The menu was inventive with a very good selection of starters, mains and wine. The local sea trout was wonderful as was the rib eye steak the following night. One criticism was that the food could have been seasoned better. Service was good. We would definitely go back.

Lovely pub garden with plenty of space and tables. But food was truly dire. My ‘pizza’ at £15 was very small and was as if a child had put random toppings on a supermarket base. It wasn’t even properly cooked and was completely cold. The dough was virtually raw as were the toppings. I’m not at all fussy but couldn’t eat it. Shockingly poor and very disappointing.

Our family Sunday lunch at the Library Restaurant was very disappointing. The drinks were spilled on the tablecloth, the starter fishcake was cold, the ravioli was oily and the pasta un seasoned, the fish was barely warm and the very bad coffee was served with the cup swimming in a coffee filled saucer. We have had some nice bar meals at the Bear over the years, but the Library Restaurant at The Bear is not good, we will not return.

Just spent a wonderful night here celebrating my mother's birthday with other family members. What a wonderful hotel - it's in a lovely setting, full of character and decorated to a tasteful and high standard. The bedrooms are beautiful. The staff are highly professional, friendly and helpful. The evening meal was outstanding in the Library Restaurant, as was the breakfast also. The whole experience was perfect and I would love to return for longer next time.

Celebrating a family birthday here at a place that held many happy memories for the birthday girl, we found the food delicious, service good, and prices were reasonable. The fish and chips were especially delicious, fish not overcooked. Two of us enjoyed the very tasty hamburgers....yummy! All in the party had nothing but praise for their food.

Plenty of options available, seating in the relaxed pub or in the formal restaurant. They have a good menu, with decent prices. Staff were helpful & friendly.

We have visited this place a few times since the summer. Our initial experience was during the summer with our a family where we enjoyed a very pleasant and informal Alfresco dinning experience at their newly opened outside eating area - very classy. I had the Fish platter which was reasonably priced and very enjoyable. We visited again before and after Xmas , again with family and we ate inside . nice open fire and atmosphere, excellent menu choice and always very pleasant /helpful staff.

I had dinner in the bar area for a couple of nights in a row recently and got inconsistent service. The first night when I walked up to the bar to order food I was told to find a table and take a seat and someone would come over with menus and take my order. The next night when I came down I took a seat and waited for someone to come, however after about 15 mins nobody had despite staff around and seeing me come up so I went up to the bar and ordered. People who came in maybe 20-30mins after me had staff bring menus over and ordered from there table so it was all a bit confusing and inconsistent. The staff were friendly and speed or service was ok.

Had a meal in the bar. Fish and chips were pretty good but cheese platter was a rip off at 9 pounds for 4 small pieces of ice cold cheese, 4 crackers and trimmings.

The menu is exclusively of the new cuisine school with tiny portions of vegetables artfully arranged around meat or fish. A hearty soup is one thing, a dark green sludge another. Altogether an expensive disappointment.

Had dinner here last night in the bar. Lovely place set on the very picturesque Rodborough common. Huge hotel / pub with ample parking and large outdoor terrace.

Lovely quality food, i had a burger, chips and a coke for about £16 i think. Although not a fan of huge dogs (pet friendly hotel) being allowed to sit in the restaurant alongside owners.

My wife and I have eaten here twice now. The second time was very disappointing and quite worrying.

My wife and I last visited The Bear almost 20 years ago for a friend's wedding. This time we thought it would be good for lunch. In summary it was a little disappointing both the food and the ambiance....

Cuando llegamos a la estación de stroud nuestro hijo estaba allí para reunirse con nosotros, como siempre, esta vez como el sol brillaba nos llevó un paseo hasta el oso. Había una buena selección de comida, personal agradable, mesas, etc. todo muy bien y limpio. Puedes comer o tomar una bebida. Si usted nunca ha estado antes bien merece una visita un poco de escalada para los coches, pero la vista desde la común genial.

Vivimos cerca de la Bear, pero esta fue nuestra primera visita durante una visita de amigos. Que decidí por el restaurante en vez de comida de bar y no nos decepcionó - menú no grande, pero una buena opción para los tres campos en oferta. Volveremos a probar otras cosas en el Bear.

Estamos semi-regular comen en el restaurante bar en el Bear como vivimos a poca distancia. Fuimos allí la última noche con mi hermana y la comida no estaba definitivamente hasta el nivel habitual de alta no lasaña verduras especialmente impresionantes con un puñado de rocket de dumping en el piso, y grasienta sobresaliente pieza delgada de patatas fritas pescado ancd.

Más como una pequeña ciudad de edificios y luego las preciosas habitaciones de interconexión para relajarse y comer/beber. Mata. Ensalada de tomate patrimonio antiguo lugar guau, pastel de cerdo - un triunfo y una generosa ayuda de cerdo maravilloso scratchings. Gran lugar, que parece sólo un local, pero es mucho más.

Food was lovely and so well presented.....three courses were right proportions and excellently presented. Reminded me of Masterchef!

We've visited the Bear 4/5 times this past 12 months and it always impresses. High quality food, very attentive service and a superb setting, the Bear is exceptional value and we always enjoy a warm welcome.

Vinimos aquí con la familia para el almuerzo. La comida, todo parecía muy bonito y las patatas fritas eran exuberantes!

El restaurante tiene un ambiente tranquilo y es uno de los mejores de la zona Stroud. Fuimos el domingo a mediodía y encontramos el servicio y la comida excelente, el menú del restaurante es bastante pequeño con 4 entradas y 4 platos principales, pero no fue un problema para nosotros.

Quedamos aquí muchas veces antes y el restaurante siempre ha sido buena. Tenía una comida familiar en el Bear ayer y fue horrible. El servicio era antipático, la comida era muy mala. Hamburguesa en pan seco, no hay ensalada fresca, absolutamente ninguna guarnición o esfuerzo.

Nos paramos para una merienda y feliz de encontrar un lugar en una de las chimeneas - siempre lo hace más acogedor. Diferentes áreas de bar poco para elegir aunque el bar en sí era bastante pequeño. Estaba bastante tranquilo, como 4:00 en un martes por la tarde, pero pocos residentes llegar después de un día ajetreado nos ayudó a mantener las cosas. El té helado (7 libras. 50 por persona para el té y bollos, 2 cada mermelada y nata) estaba bastante bien de precio y los bollos tenían algunos calidez a ellos. Por desgracia, el té llegaron primero y estaba comenzando a conseguir por el tiempo parecía bollos 10 minutos más tarde. Como un tipo antiguo, preferiría tener la comida y la bebida para llegar juntos como té debe acompañar y estar caliente (scones) en vez de un aperitivo!

Excelente comida, noches de filete jueves es buena y excelente relación calidad-precio. La mayoría de los perros acogidos, nos preguntaron si queríamos un tazón de agua tan pronto como nos a través de la puerta. El bar está dividido en habitaciones agradables y acogedoras, aunque estaba lleno, no daba sensación de lleno. Excelente servicio, rápido y amable.

Vinimos aquí para comer el domingo. El restaurante era luminoso y espacioso y tenía carácter. El personal era amable, pero el servicio era un poco inconsistente. La camarera no sabía lo que la sopa del día. También no sabía qué otro de los entrantes fue porque no había ni idea en el nombre. No tenemos sopa de tomate que estaba y era muy bueno. Había una variedad de vaca o cerdo asado para el domingo. Tenía carne, que era difícil de cortar y sinewy. Yorkshire pudding los vegetales y eran todos muy buenos.

El restaurante biblioteca estaba limpio y las mesas estaban muy bien presentada. El servicio era perfecto como con el personal que nos atiende. Buen conocimiento de vinos, como también la comida en el menú. Toda la comida era servida dentro de un plazo aceptable. La comida estaba caliente y bien presentada en el plato. Sin duda, comer aquí.

Me reuní con amigos en el restaurante para el almuerzo. causal Tengo una intolerancia al gluten y encuentra que más y más está reconocido fácilmente y un montón de opciones. Este no era el caso en el restaurante. Sólo me ofrece dos opciones de un menú de tamaño razonable. No volvería a la comida que aquí se ofrecen.

Nous sejournions dans L hôtel et nous avons choisi un soir de diner sur place. Deux choix s offrent à vous : le bar ou le restaurant. Deux cartes différentes et deux ambiances.

First time here, what a warm & welcoming environment. Wonderful country Hotel, typically English. Food was excellent, both quality & value. Staff very attentive, without being overbearing. Highly recommend this venue.

El menú parece buena, con una buena variedad y la comida tiene mucho sabor. Sin embargo, tanto las primeras dos campos llegó a la mesa tibia así obviamente lo sentados alrededor por un tiempo. Tuve que enviar el primer campo atrás. Ninguna disculpa o comprensión que podría haber sido desagradable. Renunciamos a enviar el segundo plato trasero. Es una pena porque el restaurante está bien distribuido en un entorno encantador.

Me he alojado en este hotel a lo largo de los años y en distintos propietarios. Los actuales propietarios han conservado el Cotswold Hoteles edificio y reputación por el servicio. Me alojé por 2 noches en un hotel muy bien decorado, muy limpio, habitación individual (11) con ropa de cama y una televisión grande. Incluido los desayunos eran excelentes: una amplia variedad servido por un personal eficiente. El jueves tienen una noche steak - tuve un excelente raro de cadera con una copa de buen vino por £14. El Viernes tuve una ración de pescado para £11, que era delicioso. Sin duda merece la pena alojarse si en la hermosa Cotswolds pero ten cuidado con el ruido del tráfico en la calle del hotel si necesita el doble acristalamiento abierto. Aunque hay un límite de velocidad de 40 mph (porque de que van ganado pastando) nadie parecía estar observando.

The Hotel is expensive but our meal in the restaurant was fairly priced. Scallops to start melted in the mouth and my maincourse of Duck I could eat with a fork it was so tender and perfectly cooked

Very nice environment, good service and very nice food. We only had lunch (sandwiches and chips) but every thing was good. Sitting on the terrace in front of the croquet lawn - very quaint.

El bear es local para mí, así que hemos estado allí unas cuantas veces. Esta tarde un amigo y yo cenamos. Comimos fuera del menú bar exterior. El exterior es precioso, el hotel es impresionante. The Bear did us proud at a weekend family gathering - great dinners, delicious three-course lunch and excellent breakfasts.

Hemos estado viviendo en Rodborough durante poco más de un año y pensé que ya era hora de visitar el oso. Hay un montón de aparcamiento y el edificio es fantástico, que rara mezcla de mundo viejo pero limpio y presentable. El barman tomó nuestra orden impecable y todo un alboroto sobre nuestro bebé (Confirmación de sobresaliente) y empecé pensando en llevar a los familiares el Oso la próxima vez que visitamos.

Hemos comido muchas veces aquí. Tiene una encantadora zona de descanso para los meses más cálidos afuera, pero recientemente nos hemos sentado en la zona del bar. Este es un encantador, cálido y tradicional. No aceptan reservas en el bar, así que es mejor que doble temprano. Fuimos un jueves por la noche, lo que es carne, y estaba llena de gente pasadas las 7 pm. La oferta de carne fue una estupenda relación calidad-precio, un buen trozo de carne, y una salsa de lados super sabroso.

Me encantó este hotel/restaurante/pub como tiene muchas pequeñas zonas de estar cómodas con decente. La edad del edificio, con sus vigas bajas hace tan acogedor y bonito de ver. Las zonas exteriores son realmente atractivos, con una zona de césped y un montón de asientos. Se celebró un evento familiar en una sala de actos y fue un espacio perfecto y salió muy bien. Me imagino un gran lugar para una boda pequeña. La comida era la perfección. Bien espaciadas y todos llegamos a tiempo y caliente. El servicio era amable y rápido. Nada era demasiada molestia. Mi único punto de mejora sería que el bar en la terraza necesitábamos otro mano como había una espera para las bebidas. El camarero claramente trabajando duro para llegar a la cola. Gran experiencia, día precioso y me encantaría volver en cualquier momento.

Fuimos en un día en familia en rodborough common y notamos la bear así que pensamos probar. La comida era muy agradable y un hermoso edificio y una encantadora zona exterior. Servicio de atención al cliente no es genial, esperamos en el bar por 5 minutos antes de que he visto a nadie que trabajaban aquí y todavía no saludo, sonrisas etc. Lo de dieron una clasificación más elevada si el servicio de atención al cliente que ya existían pero la comida muy buena.

Llegamos después de un largo día en las carreras y nos dijeron que teníamos una habitación de categoría superior y qué habitación!

Así, un duro, similar a la anterior comentario aquí! Fantástico entorno, comimos en el maravilloso y acogedor y tradicional bar, tan cómoda!, cerveza local y una gran calidad, bistec encantadora!

Special Anniversary visit. Didn't expect this but room upgrade. Bar food excellent. Ate at Library Restaurant to celebrate Anniversary and was not disappointed. Fantastic food and attentive service. Thank you for making a special anniversary special !!

Lovely looking place but I was terribly let down.Firstly no one brought any menus to our table didn't even go to as much of telling me where they were! Had to order ourself at the bar.Ordered for 5 people.Food came out wasn't anything special.

On holiday in the area spotted this place and had to go in we only had a drink as we had only just had lunch but would recommend a visit ... I will be returning.

Food was really tasty and well presented, with adequate portion size. Service was friendly, but being only one of two guests at the time of my visit (Monday evening) the place was lacking a bit of 'warmth'.

Passed the place a week before and saw the 'A' board advertising a "lunch special" of Fish and Chip Fryday for £9.95.So we gave it a whirl a week later.

We weren't sure what to expect, our first night we were the only guests, but the food was very good. A few dishes we ordered more than once. It did liven up toward the weekend.

We liked the old world charm unfortunately the food here really isn't very good. Such a shame.I had the lamb tagine which did not resemble this at all, the dish just tasted of tomato sauce!

Pedí un guiso abundante para el almuerzo ya que tenía hambre y hacía frío afuera. Era más de £16, lo cual es mucho para un guiso. Cuando llegamos era muy pequeña. Estaba casi todos cuscús. Había unas pocas cucharadas de estofado real. No me hacen un alboroto, así no molestar el almuerzo con amigos. No podía esperar a llegar a casa para comer algo ya que era todavía hambre. No volveremos.
