The hotel is nice and comfy and has it's own parking lot for no extra fee. We loved staying at Painswick which is less touristy but still has it's charming spots like the church, its gardens, the library. Breakfast was great and we would've love being able to have dinner as well since it looked pretty cozy.

Terrible attention. You cannot reserve online, it says the kitchen is open until 9:00 p.m. We went at 8:00 p.m., there were many tables available and they did not want to provide us with food. We begged him since there was nothing else open in the entire town and we had no food in the apartment we rented when we had just arrived. We even asked for a sandwich to take away and nothing. In addition to bad service, bad people and misleading advertising. If it says the kitchen is open until 9 p.m., knowing that there is nothing else in the entire town, it is a lack of empathy to refuse us a plate of food.

Great hotel, good breakfast, everything nicely taken care of. Just really too pricey. We paid 275 euros for 1 night's sleep with breakfast. We had been driving for hours and the place we were going was already ahead. So that's why we decided to pay this amount. It was a great experience but not in proportion to this amount.

The service was insufficient. Friendly but slow and inaccurate. Our order was incorrect, we waited 45+ minutes after we finished our meal (70-80 minutes after the food arrived) and never had our plates taken nor received our dessert menu. We were charged a 10% service charge but were not made aware prior to this. The staff were all together by the bar talking rather than seeing to customers. Price is also too high for the quality of food provided but had the service been ok I wouldn't mind.

I Live locally and went for a meal but was disappointed with the seasonal taste for a Thai curry I did find it rather bland I got no aroma taste like you should have from a fish curry and the monk fish I did find was slightly over done . My husband had a special which was the guiness and beef pie but again he said they was only one bit of meat in it and mostly vegetables and he found that rather bland lack of flavour and seasoning. I've been here in the past and the food was much better . Bar staff were lovely just very slow service..

We came here for a coffee stop when we arrived in Painswick. It's a pretty and comfortable venue, perfect for a pot of tea whilst sheltering from the rain. It's opposite the church and a 5 minute drive from Roccoco Gardens. The staff were lovely and friendly and service was prompt. We liked it enough to return later hoping to have lunch but without a booking we were unable to get in, sadly. We'll definitely try the menu there next time we're in Painswick. Social distancing was observed and the staff all wore face masks. The place was spotlessly clean.

We had a mixed experience with this meal. - Starters were great- Mains were below par- Desserts were very good The service was good and when I looked at other people's mains they looked quite nice, so maybe we just got unlucky with that (stay clear of the mushroom risotto). On a Sunday the roasts look good though. Overall we were happy with the meal and the service so not too much to complain about.

I was starting the second half of the Cotswold Way from here, having finished the first half with lunch here a few years ago. After months spent cooped up in central London during lockdown, it was bliss to find somewhere so friendly, safe (good distances between tables), with great real ale and lovely food. The room was enormous and bed very comfortable, with amazing views onto the beautiful yews in the churchyard. Could not have found a better starting point for my walk.

The Falcon was so good, we ate there on two consecutive nights. This isn't pub grub, this is quality food. The crab cakes were divine as was the bubble and squeak. The bar and wait staff were so friendly and worked to ensure everyone felt safe and comfortably distanced. We want to go back to Painswick, and this would be one of our first port of calls. I'd recommend booking in advance as, quite rightly, the place is a favourite with locals.

Sunday lunch, with dog, in a very pleasant room, cool considering what a hot day it was. The lovely garden would have been too hot...A little light masking from the charming staff was the only giveaway that COVID might be in this beautiful village.A very acceptable menu, with something for all, and unusually for us, we were tempted by the pudsAnything not perfect..? Potatoes with the delicious fish should have been more sautéed, and my mother would have frowned at the Bread and Butter pudding , which tasted fine, but should have been layered with raisins and then had custard poured over and baked. But these are minor compared to the major pleasure of one of the most pleasant lunches we’ve had this year.

The quality of food was brilliant albeit with a bit of a wait however the culinary skills of the chef, warm welcome from staff and lazy sunny afternoon, more than made up for it. Booked a table for lunch on a cold and wet Saturday. Arrived 5 minutes early. There was chap behind bar (which had no one standing at it) the who seemed to be important - and obviously far too important to acknowledge customers. We waited slightly awkwardly while he bustled around, wilfully ignoring us, before, after 6 minutes by my watch, he deigned to instruct a very nice (but obviously junior) waitress to "see to them". So not a great start.Pleasant table in the window, drinks and then food order taken efficiently - but then 10 minutes later another waitress came over and said "sorry, devilled kidneys are off". A very disappointed Mrs M settled on salmon fishcakes. Food arrived after a just acceptable wait - and more disappointment. I had ordered a BLT with bacon extra well done. No, that was too much for the kitchen - instead a limp, pale slice of pretty tasteless catering pack bacon sat between two slices of shop-bought bread, on some undressed and limp salad. Salmon fishcakes reported to be "fine - nothing special". As the table next door bemoaned their long wait for food, we looked at the puddings and decided they just weren't worth the effort. A missed opportunity - a cheery welcome and a kitchen in touch with its customers and it could be lovely.

There is a reasonably sized car park at the rear of the Falcon and then you can enter through a side door.We were greeted quickly and politley and shown to our table whilst having the specials board pointed out to us. The interior is lovely and rustic with a great mix of different furniture with a log burner that definitely throws the heat out.The service was very friendly and efficient, we didnt wait too long for anything and there was a good space between courses without feeling rushed. Visited for lunch yesterday, meeting up with family and old friends. We were seven in all with the dog. This was my local for many years and I was a regular. I'm thinking of moving back to the area so it was good to visit. Whilst the place or owners haven't changed the food and service certainly have. We waited over an hour for our burgers and fish to arrive and nearly 10 minutes more for the sauces and condiments. Later with coffee we asked three times fo the hot milk we had ordered then offered to re- heat it ourselves if they would lead us to the microwave. The place was not particularly busy and the two young ladies serving us were pleasant but appeared somewhat bewildered. As we were paying the owner appeared so I hung back to speak with him, but he disappeared again so I did not get a chance. The food was acceptable but the indifferent service was not, I felt the place lacked someone in charge.I hope this was just Monday blues I will return and hope to feel back in the Falcon I remember.

Ok but a bit rubbish for dairy free! They list DF, GF etc on the menu but there’s only two options for both starter and main and diddly squat for dessert. Yes they have sorbet but the options were rubbish and sorbet is a cop out. The main (leek and potato pie) came with no gravy or sauce, just boiled veg and boiled potatoes which made it very bland and dry. Also, dairy free doesn’t equal vegetarian or vegan and so there was no option to have any meat with my main. Seat/bench was also too high which made for an awkward seating position. It was also very hard and while there were cushions it would have made the already low table just way too low to eat from, I say that and I am only a little over 5ft. Heaven forbid someone tall sat there.

We were walking wounded when we arrived. 50 miles of the Cotswold Way behind us and the blisters, sprains exhaustion and rankles that accompany such endeavour had proliferated. Fortunately we had chosen The Falcon Inn in which to spend our last night. Such is the warmth of the welcome all aches evaporated. The rooms are great and reasonable by local standards. The whisky list is good, ales excellent and there are more gins than even current fashion should allow. The meal was outstanding - I had a pork belly and black pudding starter and a venison pie - both sublime and filling but settled into place by a Puglia Sangiovese that cost less than £20 a bottle. The service was impeccable. Needless to say the mood of six grumpy old (let's not do ages exactly) men went from exhaustion to celebration and stayed there. We slept the sleep of sozzled angels and woke to perfect breakfast. If you are considering this establishment but thinking also of others you are in danger of making a grave mistake...

Egg was ok but at £12.50 I'd expect 3 times the amount of food (1 egg, 1 bacon, 1 sausage, mushrooms, half a tomato). Coffee was included but this cappuccino was poor and small. Staff friendly. I think painswick is a place with plenty of customers willing to be hoodwinked with low quality so places like this habe no need to improve. Big shame.

Great choice and we’d already checked it out when we went for a stroll round the village and called for a drink. Anyway, the food didn’t disappoint and starters/mains were thoroughly enjoyed with my braised lamb shoulder and my wife’s sole probably neck and neck as star turn! The place is very popular and observing other diners clean plates going back to the kitchen would also suggest the food quality is pretty good across the whole menu.

Right opposite where we were staying. Quite expensive and not your average menu, but the food was very good and the service excellent. Very warm in the dining room!

The pub is very pleasant. The staff are very pleasant. It allows dogs which is pleasant. The drink selection is also good (nice beers and an interesting non-alcoholic gin).

We booked a table in advance as it was a Sunday and we needed a table in the bar to accommodate our dog. We arrived at 1.30pm to a reasonable welcome and were shown into the bar area and our table. We noticed that the other tables in the bar area were empty but other than ours and a neighbouring table were not cleared. When we booked we were told that it was an extremely busy Sunday and that 1.45/2pm was the earliest they could accommodate us however they then rang at 1pm to say that there would be availability at 1.30pm. We waited and waited for service my husband was then convinced that we needed to approach the bar because everytime we tried to get either the waitress or barman's attention they seemed to almost deliberately turn away. Eventually as I got up to go and ask a waitress came over and took our drinks and meal order. A group of 4 also with a dog arrived receiving a very warm welcome as if to old friends and they were directed to the table next to us also with a reserved sign. They were immediately given menus followed up swiftly with a drinks order and when their drinks arrived they took their meal orders in a timely fashion, In fact their food arrived minutes after we were served with ours. We had all ordered the sirloin beef roast and were genuinely taken aback by the meagre strip of beef we were each served, there was plenty of vegetables but the beef serving was the meanest portion I have ever had especially for the price. I am petite and don't like big portions but I was shocked at our serving. The most galling thing was that a lady in the party next to us also ordered the beef and it was clear that her plate was brimming with a luxury portion of beef. No-one came to ask us if we were enjoying our meal, nor cleared our plates for ages after we had finished so we decided not to order pudding. We probably should've complained but that spoils a meal out and my elderly mother was treating us so we didn't want to make a fuss and just decided we won't return. We wondered if they were running low on beef so cut back on our servings and then gave the rest to our neighbour if hers was the last order of lunch? We really would have rather they told us there wasn't enough beef left rather than serve us the tiny scrap we were served. I think every customer should be treated the same and even if the new arrivals were old customers to ignore us and give us sub standard meals is really inexcusable. If this had been late on a Sunday and the staff had been flat out all day I would've understood a little more the delays to service but it was 1.30pm on an ordinary Sunday and we had reserved in the morning. I'm so disappointed as I always held this pub in such high regard.

This is a very nice restaurant with atmosphere. Not too crowded, lots of candles. We had the tagliatelle with spinach and rocket and mushrooms - one of the specials - and some excellent red wine. Such a good sized and tasty portion we didn’t have room for a sweet.

Visited this place with my family and found the place fairly welcoming. The staff was really nice and helpful, there was also a nice log burner which created a nice atmosphere. The food though...my wife mentioned that her Sunday roast tasted “old” probably it was from lunch time and got reheated for us at dinner. We ordered a vegetarian burger with chickpeas and honestly it tasted like cardboard, no flavour whatsoever and my daughter’s dinner was way overpriced...a small bowl of pasta with some sauce was over £8.00.

We popped in for lunch. Great food, wine. The service was a little slow, they were extremely busy, & would have benefited from an additional person front of house. However, when the food arrived, it was very good, delicious!

Really nice pub which was thankfully open early on a Sunday morning. Had tea, coffee and cake which was delicious. They had a surprisingly large selection of cake. It was quiet until lunchtime so a really good place for a friendly catch up.

We ate and drank here both days we were staying in Painswick. Food was very good, don't get me wrong, but expensive. Drinks were very over priced. A Jack Daniels and coke and a gin with a mixer for just under £14... As we went out of season nowhere else was open, so I did feel a little taken for granted.

We’re very lucky to have this pub as one of our locals, the interior is lovely, welcoming, warm and well designed, and the staff are always friendly and attentive. However, the menu would really benefit from being smaller, maybe 4 starters and 4 main courses done really well, with local ingredients and better portion sizes. Currently get the feeling there is too much on offer to do them well. Prices are also too high for sure. £17 for one over cooked chicken breast and some veg, £17 for small amount of venison Shepard’s pie and a tiny haunch is too high and would make us consider not eating here in future. Small changes to make a big difference!

The front of house staff were not welcoming at all and under no uncertain terms, we were told we hadn't booked. We sat in the bar area and I have to say , I think the main Manager was very moody. There was no feedback on is your meal OK, etc, or any social interaction from staff. The majority of staff looked like they did not want to be there. I do think this is a pub for regulars and because we were staying at a local hotel with different accents , were treated differently indeed. However the food was great but were very very disappointed by the Customer service provided. We would never return again as the atmosphere was very unwelcoming.

Very nice pub, we randomly stopped here because it was on our way to a ghost hunt in the area, and we are so glad we stopped here, the pub was nice and clean, the mother daughter team that run it was really friendly, and the food was outstanding, very well presented, great prices and yummy! We are going back in December and I’m very much looking forward to it.

We arrived in Stroud mid afternoon on a Saturday. The kids were starving and every other place we tried to get into was in the process of shutting. Despite Stroud being packed, Milano appeared to be the only place open that was still doing lunch or any type of food for that matter ! The lady behind the counter was super friendly and everything that we had to eat was tasty and really good value too. My youngest especially liked the Spag Bol and the proper milk shake made with ice cream. Don`t be put off by some of the reviews on here, it`s a nice place and really friendly. Just don`t go in expecting a restaurant, the clue is in the word cafe !

The building and setting at Leaf and Ground is beautiful. I’ve been here before but never eaten in the cafe so wasn’t sure what to expect. We pre-booked a table as we were meeting a friend with their family, making our group 9 people (4 adults and 5 kids). They did charge £5 per person as a deposit but we were glad we could book a guarantee a space for our party. Service was a little slow at points, drinks took awhile to arrive and had to grab someone’s attention to order food. However the food didn’t take too long - it was also delicious and very good quality. I had the chicken parm which was tasty, and my husband had ham, egg and chips, both were very decent sized portions. I would agree with other comments about the kids fries being salty, they were fine to my taste but the kids weren’t especially keen (they don’t normally have salt on their food) - so it might be worth taking that on board for future. We then enjoyed a walk around the grounds after lunch (the kids loved romping around the woodland area). We then had a stop at the kiosk for ice cream/milkshakes, followed by a trip to the kids play area. A very pleasant way to spend a sunny October afternoon and we will be back :)
