Visited on a Thursday night. Thursdays were always steak night, so we were looking forward to both having rump steaks with sauce. No rump steaks available! We weren’t told upfront but only when we ordered. Because this was really what we wanted, we did think about leaving and going somewhere else, despite having already ordered starters. However, we pondered and as we were already settled with a glass of wine, we decided to go for our second choice. One chicken dish, one steak pie. Yet again upon placing the order we were told that neither of these dishes were available! It was a quiet night with our table booked at 7 pm. They can hardly have run out! We expressed to our server how disappointed we were and asked for our concerns to be passed to the manager. We advised that we would be leaving. No one came out to express their apologies, no concession was made to the price of our drinks. We had money to spend but were just allowed to walk out of the door. Found this immensely surprising and worrying for that a business are prepared to treat customers in that way. We expected apology and an explanation and encouragement to return. Or even a concession on the wine price, but nothing. We will have to think long and hard as to whether we would bother to go back. We immediately went to another pub chain in the area and had a delicious steak meal, starter and it was actually cheaper.

Always great friendly staff and food is good pub food. The atmosphere is what makes it, because the regulars and staff are great. Would recommend the pub quiz every other Thursday too for a bit of fun.

Staff member was rude and closed to door when other staff members said we can have the door open and he closed the window it was a guy with moustache

Had a lovely fish and chips dinner, don’t forget to ask for the katsu curry sauce on the side! Food was delicious, staff were great.

Staying at nearby Hotel. Found this fab Pub nearby with great food & lovely staff. Recommended

Nachos were good, then it went downhill. Fish and chips was the smallest, thinnest, driest fish in batter I've ever experienced. The pastry was good on the steak and ale pie but the meat inside was unrecognisale, not just as beef but as meat at all! Would have complained but no-one came to ask 'Is everything alright', and we didn't really want a replacement anyway.

We regularly use Greene King pubs so we knew what to expect but the staff here were very disinterested almost to the point of rudeness. The fish and chips was very disappointing- the batter was so thin that it was almost nonexistent. We won’t be going again

Enjoyed some really nice meals. Scampi and chips for me. Halloumi salad for my wife. Both were delicious. I knocked one star off for a yappy dog but that wasn’t the pubs fault.

Popped in for a quick refreshment after a lovely walk with my partner and dog. Staff were super friendly engaging with us and our dog and even offered a treat for him which was a sweet gesture. Will definitely be back ❤️

Having been before on several occasions my husband and I along with our young daughter decided to stop off after a Sunday afternoon walk. The restaurant was virtually empty so we were seated straight away, having now experienced the new menu we can understand why! The food took over 50mins to arrive (would be more understandable if the place was packed!) we were not notified that there would be a wait which is common curtesy especially when you have young children with you. Finally our food arrived, to say the least we were extremely disappointed. My husband had ordered the Turkey roast which should have been accompanied by vegetables, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding, sage and onion stuffing and roast potatoes, what arrived can only be described as a subpar school dinner! The Yorkshire was FLAT and wet, there was no cauliflower cheese, approx 3 overcooked roast potatoes and one floret of broccoli surrounded by the small cubed frozen veg which I wouldn’t feed to my dog! The mac and cheese that my child ordered clearly was from a can and the cucumber and carrot sticks were placed on a hot plate, enough said! Needless to say we had to stop at McDonalds on the way home! A real shame as we have always enjoyed our past experiences, the manager I believe she was did offer a free drink or dessert but as my husband has dietary requirements this was not an option for us and he ended up not having a meal at all.

i popped in the kings head and it was absolutely brilliant, staff were amazing and friendly! especially connor. the food was insane and the drinks were just as good! i will definitely be back. the best atmosphere also. cannot fault the place.

Guy behind the bar was rude. Lost my booking and did not apologise for it. ( This is the 2nd time this has happened to us) Had sediment in the wine, which looked awful. Language of staff wasn't great we had young children with us. Waited 1.5 hours for food that didn't even come out at the same time. Half the table had eaten before ours came out. It was cold and peas were like little rocks. I am very disappointed as we have used the kings head for years as live locally. I am not sure who is running the pub now but they are making a mess of it.

Staying in a nearby hotel & fancied somewhere different for our evening meal. So glad we did as the pub was spacious and airy & very welcoming. The staff were very friendly and attentive & the meal was superb, very hot & extremely tasty. Highly recommend

Lovely place to have Sunday dinner. Big portions and food is good standard for the price. I definitely enjoyed the Turkey than the beef but both really good. Inside and outside seating area. Large carpark on site. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back again

Visited here from out of town, it was the closest pub to the hotel we were staying. We had the award winning pie which was beautiful. We both enjoyed it very much & can see why it is an award winner. We were served all evening by a young member of staff called Connor. He was very polite, assertive, professional & helpful. We did ask another member of staff a question before being served by Connor, but we were ignored & to be honest we didn't find him to be at all pleasant to his staff over the course of the evening. We bought Connor a drink when leaving to say thank you for his lovely personality & service as he made our night very enjoyable.

I had my meal after nearly all my family had finished theirs. Was very poor quality when I did eventually get it and no apology for the poor service. Will definitely not go there again. Plus it was flipping cold in there as well. Glad to leave

Hospitality training for a male member of staff wouldn’t go amiss. Came here for an afternoon tea with friends last week. The food was rubbish as was the attitude of the male already mentioned. Will not be returning

The pub is close by to where I live and offers free parking (big plus) The staff are always friendly and helpful. Food is good and reasonably priced.

Some great offers and meal choices, we came in today for some light lunch, served promptly by a gentleman (assuming the manager) very polite and funny. Made to feel welcome and relaxed. It was very busy we waited no longer than 15 minutes for our food and it came out hot 🔥 and tasty! This place I cannot recommend enough! I thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Lamb shank was tasty and my partner said his risotto was very good.

Don't recommend after waiting 1.5 hrs for food I ordered I asked the question of how much longer is the wait to get told a while as we only got one chef in.still waiting to watch two other parties that came in after me to have there food brought out to them I asked again to finally received my food to find half of the food was missing when asked where the remainder of food was to get told sorry didn't have any,requested compensation on the missing to get told sorry I can't do that so I requested a full refund that I received and I told the waitress that I thank the pub for ruining my wife's birthday celebrations to not get an apology my wife and I will never step in the place again

Brilliant bar service, food was top notch!! Went for work Christmas drinks and was perfect. Quiet early on but got busier later on

DISASTER!! Visited the Kings Head for a Christmas meal. The prawn cocktail starter consisted of four small lettuce leafs & a table spoon of mayonnaise. Search for the prawns! The main course included sprouts that had just left the freezer and were impossible to cut. The Yorkshire pudding must be a new variety as it was totally flat looking like a pancake! Never seen this type before. We were asked to select from the menu some weeks ago and as it was Christmas I selected Christmas pudding only to be told that they had run out! How can you run out of Christmas puddings at Christmas? Most dissappointed. Will not return.

The front of house staff were not welcoming at all and under no uncertain terms, we were told we hadn't booked. We sat in the bar area and I have to say , I think the main Manager was very moody. There was no feedback on is your meal OK, etc, or any social interaction from staff. The majority of staff looked like they did not want to be there. I do think this is a pub for regulars and because we were staying at a local hotel with different accents , were treated differently indeed. However the food was great but were very very disappointed by the Customer service provided. We would never return again as the atmosphere was very unwelcoming.

Visited for early evening food. Probably a good pub just for drinks. We did eat as been out all day, okay but typical of Greene King local, basic menu/food, mainly ordered/delivered in set pre-made portions, from same suppliers as they all are, cannot really add more. Might return for drinks as seemed friendly service. Only other thing is we found too bright inside, restaurant area included, so not best ambience when eating.

Great food, had Chicken Katsu curry which was delicious. The chicken was really succulent. I had the squid to start and that was excellent. I don’t usually have a dessert but it was carrot cake - couldn’t resist. It was served with ice cream and was perfect! The service was brilliant and Cassie and Ellie were lovely and made us feel very welcome - Friendly without being too familiar.

New to the area and originally booked another venue but left disappointed and came to the kings head Gloucester and what a fantastic time!! Great food, great drinks reasonable prices and live music!! Thanks will defo make this our local xx
