Lovely place. Food lovely. Staff great

Myself and colleagues take about 15 adults with varying disabilities to this pub every week , we cannot thank the staff enough for accommodating all of our specialist needs , every week they go above and beyond to keep the whole environment and ambience suitable to all customers . We would like to say thank you to Ellie , Cally and Chaz for being the best and looking after our needs with love and empathy

Had a lovely evening meal here with family. The choice was good, the food was good, the service was good too. Can't say anything negative about our experience. It is a pub so serves pub type meals, but the food was good. Not high end dining hence the 4star rating but would definitely recommend a visit.

One of the best family friendly pub in Gloucester. Spacious parking is available. Staff are polite and friendly. Weekend need advance seat reservations. Lunch and dinner awesome variety of food options available. Calm.and cool atmosphere. Food was so delicious. Recommend this pub to visit with friends and family members.

While staying at a local hotel near Upton St Leonard’s we visited The King’s Head on 3 separate occasions and consistently found the service to be quick, friendly and helpful. One of our party is gluten-intolerant and she found the Non-Gluten Containing Ingredient Menu very helpful. We would recommend to customers wanting a relaxed friendly pub meal experience.

Good service, very good food and not a bad price. What more could you ask for for lunch. Caroline was very accommodating.

Traditional english pub with lovely grub 😋 quick and friendly service.

Visiting the area on holiday with my two dogs and family and popped in for some lunch. The food was delicious and very fairly priced, with a variety of options to choose from. Our dogs were welcomed and we felt so comfortable in this pub. The staff were so lovely and friendly. The whole team are such a credit to themselves and their hard work! Would definitely recommend!

Had a roast beef Sunday lunch last week absolutely fantastic food, highly recommended

Firstly the staff were welcoming friendly snd helpful. Had already pre booked a table so no waiting. I ordered the mushroom pie with mash and veg. Pie supposed to have mushroom but just really a greyish gravy. The suet crust was hard, maybe heavily microwaved. The mash was similarly like over microwaved. The veg wasn’t that good either. I didn’t want to complain as with my relative so didn’t want to spoil our evening. I guess pie bought in so a supplier problem with filling and maybe kitchen needs to be mindful when heating. I will go to another Greene King in Hampshire as I do like the chain. Just passing on my experience but understand others may have had a better one with same choice. Credit to the friendly staff though.

Lovely pub nice food and great service

Visited the kings head for food on Saturday night with some good friends, 2 of us were vegan the food was really good and great service we all loved the pub and food thank you.

Food was very nice, had a nice chicken schnitzel and the salsa that was with it was very nice, service was spot on and timely, a tad crowded but that was expected. Over all 4.5/5🌟

After only giving 1hours notice for a table of 10 we all agreed that the staff were very chatty and friendly and the service was good considering it was for 10 people the food came out at the same time and was lovely and hot we all enjoyed our meal thank you so much will see you again

I was met by friendly welcoming staff, made to feel at home. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Super cute garden area and lovely decor inside.

My staff took me for dinner to celebrate my wedding. We all ordered separately/in pairs at the same time. Two ladies were still waiting for their food after everyone else had finished. We had no apology and the staff were rude when we pointed this out. Another lady had a long black hair in the bottom of her jacket potato and returned it to the bar. No one came to apologise or offered to replace/refund her until we went over at the end of our meal to ask what they were going to do. The lady behind the bar said it was because the customer had walked away angry that they didn't do anything. Overall the experience was not great and I certainly won't be eating here again.

Popped in on a Sunday evening for dinner, and so glad we found this pub - everything was absolutely spot on! Loads of parking, really friendly service, super accommodating when we wanted to switch our table to be outside in the sunshine. Food arrived promptly and was all delicious, definitely try the fish and chips and one of the pies (award winning according to the menu). Also one of the most dog-friendly pubs we've been to for a while. Recommend!

We went here for the first time having been recommend. The lady who welcomed us was polite and very friendly and soon took our order and brought our drinks. From there it started to go down hill…. We were there just after 12 and the pub wasn’t busy. Out staters which were chicken strips arrived brought by a large lady who just plonked them in front of us and carried on chatting to a man and his small boys. Taking pictures and chatting. The staters were very tasty and the sauce was nice, we then waited almost 40 minutes for the mains to come out. I was just on the point of asking if they had forgotten us. The steak pie was huge and inviting looking with a few chips and some dried up tendertem broccoli. When the pie was opened it contained very little meat and what was there was chewy and gristly. The gravy in the pie had so much GM it left a bitter aftertaste. My husband hunters chicken and chips was ok but very mediocre really a very disappointing meal , the waitress said she would pass the comments about the pie on to the kitchen but as they are all bought in very little will be done I expect. I doubt if we would bother to go a second time and obviously won’t be recommending it to others the photographs make it look better than it was……

Like a previous reviewer, we also stayed at a local 4 star hotel, and weren't that impressed. Decided to try King's Head based on recent reviews. So glad we did. Food was excellent. Hot, served promptly and very tasty. Staff also excellent. Very welcoming and helpful. Thoroughly recommended and if we're ever down this away again, will return.

Perfect place for a drink with mates, but also found my new chill spot to perch up when wanting a little me time, thanks to the friendly staff that make you feel so welcome everytime.

Great atmosphere, friendly, warm crowd. Chatty staff. Honestly one of the most welcoming environments I have experienced in the Gloucester pub scene, and thats saying something. Whats more, the food is fresh and delicious. I am not a veggie or salad lover, but their halloumi salad blew me away. The perfect location for summer catchups with friends and family with a cold drink and great food! 5 staaaaars. Definitely on my regulars.

We've always been taken by the friendly vibes and fantastic food and drink on offer when we come. Whether inside or out, it's the perfect spot to chill with a cold pint or a nice glass of wine. And for all the dog lovers out there, this pub is a dream! Our pooches were treated like royalty, especially on our last visit when they had doggie ice cream because the sun was out, didn't even know such a thing existed!! But the dogs loved them🐶🍦 The staff are amazing—shoutout to the lovely ladies and gents, and especially the bald guy with the tash who's always cracking jokes and keeping the atmosphere upbeat and lively. If you want a relaxed, fun time with good food and great company, The Kings Head is the place to be! 🍻🐾

This place was a bit of me. Really enjoyed it with a big group of us. Some wild woman was kicking off about a groupon voucher not working, but the staff handled it really well and added to the entertainment value 😅... will say this, we joined in the pub quiz but the questions were a bit to hard for me. Next time a little bit of football trivia for us novices. I'll be back see if my advice was taken onboard!

Ordered award winning beef pie 🥧 it was served within minutes, so knew it wasn't freshly made, filling was wonderful but pastry was soggy and seemed like it had been reheated in microwave mash potato was dry disappointed as was really looking forward to meal

We had such rude service and hideous experience tonight at the King's Head. After a long days DIY we decided to go out and have a family meal to finish the weekend off nicely. I bought a groupon voucher for 2 burgers and 2 drinks after carefully checking the t'&c's and making sure it could be used on a Sunday evening (have regularly purchased this deal and never had an issue). When I initially ordered I asked what larger was included and the woman said I know Carlsberg is but not sure what else so I asked if there was any chance she could check if there were others and she said no it was too complicated, then she asked me if I wanted a medium or large wine and I replied whatever was included in the deal and she said either was it was my choice, a few minutes later when she couldn't get the deal to work and asked her colleague he aggressively told me 'that's why you need to check the t&c' s as large wine isn't included'. I then asked to order a kids roast which understandably in the evening they had run out of so when I then ordered a mac & cheese I was told 'I said we are out of roasts' like I was stupid and should know mac & cheese is a roast?! There was then this big kerfuffle about getting the voucher to work and I was told my 2 mini kids meals came to £27...when I questioned it....'thats what the till says do that's what it is?!'. Then there was some recognition that the voucher was recognised but didn't take off enough so I was told we'll that's what it's going to cost you, when I queried this the voucher was then scanned in excess of 10 times and eventually after about half an hour later whereby my hungry kids were getting irritable, I was told you just need to pay the amount as it was a 3rd party voucher and not our problem. After the way I'd been spoken to I decided to leave and not pay this extra amount we were told to pay, the bloke working their then followed me to the table where I'd gone to get the kids to leave and started shouting and ranting at us scaring us and really shaking up the children. I totally appreciate the voucher was from a 3rd party and they were obviously having trouble sorting it out but this could have been conveyed in a nice and apologetic and empathetic manner, seeing the 2 upset hungry kids sat there. We left and went to the Greene King in Birdlip where we could not have had a more different, friendly and efficient service and used our voucher. The woman serving us there could not have been more helpful. Will definitely not be returning to the King's Head to be treated like that again

One of the best experiences of quality cooking, you can taste the quality in their produce and some dishes that are not "traditional" pub grub like the ricotta (that was high end restaurant quality). I even had a dessert when normally I am not tempted by the offering in most pubs. The staff were friendly and efficient. Dog friendly, including indoors - an idea if you want to be even better is have water bowls at the bar, not that we had any issue with getting water for her little portable pop-up bowl. Will return again even at 45 minute drive.

Busy pub/restaurant with good atmosphere. Friendly staff. Service excellent by Carmel. Food was delicious and well cooked. We had chicken strips, cheesy focaccia, lamb shank, gammon, signature burger and truffle chicken with garlic mushrooms (specials), crumble and Eaton mess sundae, we could not fault anything. Came in tonight and was served by Leo and Eleanor who were both very friendly. We asked to move tables from where we'd originally been seated and they were very accommodating. Food was delicious, clean plates all round. Look forward to coming again soon.

Called on for early lunch. Greating friendly, Tables a little close to each other and table for two was small. Waitress attentive with good timing. Food arrived in a timely manner and was delicious. We both had Chicken and ham Pie with mash.

Called in on the off chance and I’m glad I did I had the halloumi wrap was fresh and cooked to perfection followed by a Victoria cheesecake slice. The staff I saw (Ellie & Carmel) were polite welcoming and friendly. Will definitely return in the future..

Well where do I start …. We had a great dinner last night at the Kings Head. Keiran was the best, didn’t need to write our orders down and never got anything wrong. Good service and atmosphere and food was spot on too. Make a visit ….. I will be returning

We are stopping in a nearby 4 star hotel and had a meal here and wasn't overly impressed, so we went to the Kings Head and it was the best lamb shank I can ever remember eating and our 2 waitresses were so friendly, helpful and polite. Desserts were delicious too. Definitely recommend this place.

1) I was promised a free Italian beer when I booked a table and signed up to a newsletter. On arrival, I was denied it as I hadn't got something called "an app" on my phone! Disappointed! (I am 80 years old.) On looking at my receipt, I was shocked at the price of your Abbot Ale (£4.80) 2) The food was excellent. My lamb shank was large and lovely and tender - shame the broccoli wasn't. My sister enjoyed her halloumi salad. We both enjoyed our desserts. 3) Service was excellent apart from the free beer! 4) I was unable to log in on the address given on the receipt for entry into the monthly prize draw.

Hands down the best mixed grill I’ve ever had, grilled and seasoned to perfection. Fantastic service. This place is a gem.

Can't moan about service. We sat outside but were told we could sit inside because we had a dog. Food was hot and served quickly, but the quality wasn't great. Maybe it's what we should expect in a cheaper meal deal offer. Won't stop us returning but just for drinks next time.

A group of us went for afternoon Tea . Service was great and the afternoon tea was lovely would highly recommend. Plenty of sandwiches, cake and cream scones and great value at £15 Also plenty for take home boxes which the pub supplied as there is plenty of food

I haven't been here in ages and I was surprised how good and cool this pub is. I didn't remember it to be like that. Food was good, although room for improvement. I ordered the lamb shank, the mash potatoes was dry on the top and super heavy, and the peas looked like they needed rehydrated ha ha. The lamb so good. And vegs nicely cooked. A decent dish and reasonable portion overall The staffs were very pleasant. I'll definitely come back.

The bad first: lacks a choice of interesting ales (plenty of Greene King IPA of course), the quality of food can be somewhat hit and miss, and it can take a while for said food to arrive. And as someone else has said for such an old pub it's lacking in anything approaching the atmosphere you might expect BUT... The good: Always cheerful, friendly and welcoming front of house staff. The food is very reasonably priced, and the quiz is great fun (even if I was right about the Snickers!). UPDATE: new waiting staff is godawful. Waited an age to be noticed to place an order (she'd seated us so she knew we were there) Our drinks then sat on the end of the bar until the barman eventually delivered them instead of the waitress. Mains arrived in a reasonably timely fashion (and were pretty well cooked), but no sign of the side. Eventually got the waitress' attention again and veg was then finally delivered, but it had obviously sat under a heat lamp for too long now, so everything on the top had gone shriveled and dry. Most frustratingly no acknowledgement or apologies for anything. Not for forgetting to take an order for ages, not for gaining to bring the drinks, nor for forgetting the side. Avoid until they get new staff. Which won't be long given their rate of turnover...

I like this pub. Nice atmosphere, Abotts beer was ok. Food took a while to arrive, my steak was nice. Two of my friends had meat pies. The pies looked fantastic, but one only had three lumps of beef in it, the gravy was good. Both were very disappointed.

Third time of being told there is no milk for hot drinks

Lunch visit : Disappointed last visit before Xmas but hoped might have improved, sadly not. Miserable looking woman behind bar, no smile or even hello/ poor customer service skills, basic training needed. Man with tattoos/necklace bought food over, also looking like he was disinterested, didn’t ask if we needed any other sauces etc; I asked if we could have vinegar/pointed out empty bottle on the table ( likewise empty tomato sauce), no apology or “ of course, will get you some”. He just said nothing and got some off the next table (perhaps he thought that is the customer’s job), also anyone then using next table would have same issue. Perhaps try check sauces/condiments etc beginning of lunch time service. Food very average. Husband has risotto with chorizo, half of the meat pieces were totally overcooked/like bullets, could not be eaten.Can the kitchen staff or waiting staff not see? Abbot ale not the best either. Got impression no interest so we wont return. .

I went in this afternoon with a friend to have a long overdue catch up and we were really impressed. The food was delicious and came out promptly. The service was friendly and attentive. The place was clean and generally atmosphere was brilliant. We loved it and will be back!

Went for a birthday meal, Family of 20+, pre booked the meals, staff were very accommodating, all foood came out hot and together as your can to for 20+ people. Large portions , friendly staff , great value

2nd time in two months and once again service was slow. Had same waitress both times and she didn't seem a people person. Slow to clear table after main and dessert courses, walked past table 3/4 times after each course. Definitely not going there again.

The worst dining experience I have ever had. We were told the wait for food would be 30 minutes, but it ended up being about an hour and a half. Our server was very rude, clearly annoyed that she had to server us. She never once came to check in on us, or explain that the food would take a while. Other parties who arrived after us got their food before ours. My mom thought the beef and ale pie was okay, but the veggie burger and fries my partner got were awful. The fries were soggy & mushy, seemed frozen. The burger was dry and bland with an over toasted bun. It came with the tiniest piece of tomato. The cocktail I had was very watery and did not taste like it had any alcohol. It was bland. Definitely will not return despite this place being a short walk away from our home.

Really disappointing experience. We were told to expect a 30 minute wait for food (which would have been fine), but that ended up being closer to 90 minutes. The lady serving us was cold, rude and didn't check on us once in this time to let us know what was going on. Just when we'd given up hope, the food arrived, but it was frankly depressing. Our burgers were dry and tasteless, the buns toasted to the point they were like cardboard. The chips seemed like they were from frozen. They were mushy and pale, and half of them were already smashed to pieces. I know that being a restaurant waiter is a tough job, but our waiter wasn't just moody, I felt like she despised us. You couldn't pay me to go back.
