Just spending a few days in Wotton Under Edge and happened to drop on this lovely friendly pub. The owners are so friendly, even offered to drive us back to where we were staying when we couldn’t get a taxi ! Not many publicans would do that ! This pub would definitely be our local if we lived here. Thankyou Becky !

Lovely pub with a friendly team who went above and beyond to help two knackered walkers. Couldn't recommend enough, we'll definitely be back when we visit the area again.

Good food and large beer garden with playground (a nice one) for the kids. Friendly and accommodating staff. I never visited under the old owners but I can't fault this place - also has a snooker table!!!

Royal Oak Inn has come to life again in the hands of its new owner. It has a warm atmosphere and a friendly team who are always smiling.

If you are passing through Wotton you can't help but stop for an evening at the Royal Oak with your friends, I have made many friends playing billiards and darts. some evenings I even caught the karaoke I did with my friends!! super inn

Walked in and had a wonder around, waited around 5 minutes but there was no sign of any staff so we left. Bar wasn't fully set up either but they were open. Very disappointed

Overall a very disappointing visit. Dirty sticky tables and menus in the bar, no soap in the toilets (which looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned since the night before), and generally disorganised with not enough staff. A visiting dog was allowed to bark continuously in the bar area, so we had to move to a different room. More alarming was a lethal children’s slide in the beer garden. Broken garden furniture discarded in the car park, too. Nice friendly landlady and tasty adult fish and chips, but dry Mac cheese and fish fingers were deep fried. We won’t be returning!

Very warm and welcoming establishment with great fun for everyone. each Saturday has a massively entertaining karaoke night which is great fun and overall experience was 10/10.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. They serve you uncooked meat and food that has been frozen for months in plastic containers that they then microwave before serving. The ale is off and half the time comes out as slush. The staff refuse to take responsibility for their wrong doings ie, serving uncooked chicken. The manners of this place is unbelievable and I certainly would not recommend this pub to any of my friends of family when visiting. There is some beautiful pubs in wotton and this certainly is not one of them. Do not go to this pub.

A secret delight is to be had at the Royal Oak every alternate Sunday it seems ...open mic complete with enthusiastic support and free entry. Marvelous music for free. Who could ask for more?

We were 1st time visitors to Wooton under edge and found this wonderful friendly pub. Very friendly staff,food was georgious nothing was too much trouble .Thank you for your great service

The worst meal I’ve been served anywhere. Totally inedible! The whole place was untidy and dirty. Should have walked straight back out again. Felt sorry for the staff having to work in those conditions

Food was awful, forgot the vegetables and never got them, gravy had a thick skin you had to break then was lumpy. We never got the drinks despite asking 4 times so we left the awful food and went and got a take away! Terrible service too, the lady who appeared to be in charge was the other side of the bar chatting, whilst the chef ran between the bar serving the the kitchen to cook. Avoid!

Food was nice and waitress was really good , but had a bad expirence as while we were eating the karoke was setting up wich is fine but he started putting his laptop and things on the end of our table and then very loudly said we will start when these people go , at this point we were stil eating, we were not told any events were happening when booking , unlikely to go again

Unfortunately, Google won't allow zero ratings. Without doubt one of the worst places I have eaten. Service was poor, we had to wait for 45 minutes to receive our meals of burgers and spag/bol. Our train journey was 45 minutes late and I got a 50% refund! The spaghetti was inedible, in fact my wife couldn't even chew it! The starter never showed. We were told via a phone message they had one table left if we got there quick. We were the only people in the "restaurant". When asked by the waitress if we had enjoyed the meal my wife informed her we would never enter the place again. Terrible experience.

Disappointing meal and over charged! Was not given a bill just had card reader thrust at me. On a positive note, the staff were friendly.

Very disappointed with the service given. After a 30 minute wait we had to ask for service and were told to wait another 10 minutes while they cleaned a table that wasn't even being used. Drinks arrived promptly after finally being served. Food was nice apart from the fact it was covered in black pepper.

Very disappointing food. Staff polite and courteous if a little scruffy looking. Pizza was overcooked and looked and tasted like a cheap supermarket one Hunters chicken arrived but chef forgot bbq sauce so added it as a side Burgers underwhelming as was the fish.

Booked to have Sunday lunch here with relatives visiting for the weekend from Manchester they completely messed up my booking and couldn't have cared less. We had to leave and find another pub

Cozy, friendly, good service and nice atmosphere.

Last night my party of 11 people ate at the restaurant. We all had various starters from the extensive menu, followed by various main courses (the steaks are to die for). Be warned if you intend to eat here make sure you have a large appetite, very generous servings. All washed down with a variety of drinks. The whole evening was an excellent experience, The staff were attentive and courteous, The food was superb on all levels. We cannot praise the restaurant more highly. Congratulations to all the staff.

Since moving to the area this has very quickly become my local. Fantastic cask ale. They really know how to look after these, which is so difficult to do. The staff are very friendly and the food. Well let's just say I used to think the Wild Duck near Cirencester did the best burger's. Great local pub. Friendly staff and quickly becoming a home from home.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch, everything about it was good and so tasty. I had belly of pork it was so tender and had perfect crackling. My partner had the beef and he also really enjoyed everything . The vegetables were fresh including creamed leeks ,suede and carrot and brocoli. Will definitely visit again .

Curry not a huge portion but came with a drink. Staff all very pleasant and cheerful!

The staff were very friendly. The pork belly was horrible tuff . The potatoes and peas dump on the plate with the pork on top . 1/10 very poor

Just happened across this pub whilst visiting Wotton on Edge. Really lovely atmosphere..we had dinner her and it was great..delicious and generous.

We have been here twice and both time we had great food. Very high quality pub food. It also have reasonable price and a lovely beer garden

What a hidden gem - we had an amazing meal to end our second day of the Cotswolds Way hike. Food cooked to perfection (a lot better than your typical pub food), amazing and quick service and unbelievable value! Thank you to the team, and highly recommended to any hikers or visitors stopping by.

First time visit for lunch before watching Argyle win at FGR in Nailsworth. What a delightful traditional pub, nice food, a good range of beers and footie on the TV . The staff were friendly and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Happy to recommend

Stopped here for lunch today. Really impressed with the quality and price of the food. Ham, eggs, chips and salad was great value at just £7. The mushroom and garlic pasta (also £7) was delicious (says my wife) and the pizza and burger for the kids were very good. Good cider and beers too. Shame there was no thatcher's blood orange slush puppy available but maybe next heat wave.

Had a fabulous meal tonight. Fish and Fizz night 🦐🍾 amazing. Highly recommend the salmon with red pepper mash. The sea bream linguine with scallops and king prawns was also a winner. Such a good price as well and great staff.

We made a last minute booking for 5 people on a Saturday night. We'd never been before but wanted to take my elderly in-laws somewhere for dinner while they were staying in the area. The food was fantastic but what really stood out was just how caring and wonderful the staff here are. They went out of their way to accommodate my elderly father in law who has poor mobility. They were so friendly and good humoured about it that my mother in law was reduced to tears as we left!

Really really good food and generous portions. A true beacon of light at the end of a long walk on the Cotswolds Way.

Called in out of the blue. Was shown to a table and told it will be a short time before our order was taken, 5 minutes later order was in and just 10 minutes later we were eating our food. Food very tasty and staff very friendly. Would recommend a visit to the pub. We were staying at the Tortworth Hotel but weren't happy with the prices we were asked to pay there for food so thought we would find a local pub .

Friday night is fish night at the Royal Oak in Wotton-under-Edge, & I defy any pub in the area to produce fish dishes as good as this. Tonights hake with a tomato,artichoke,potato & roast avocado salsa was a triumph! Exceptional cooking with a confident knowledge of flavours & textures.

Had roast dinners, all in all good value, good service, the pork was nice. However, the roast potatoes were undercooked and bland and the chicken was incredibly dry.

4 of us had a light lunch here today, we we were all well pleased with our meals, we had excellent service from the staff ,I understand that evening meal bookings are recommended.

One of the best Roast dinners all home cooked, no frozen veg, massive Yorkshire puddings! Veggie roast dinner not so good given an extra Yorkshire as no alternative, bit quite sure if that's what you normally get! 2 courses for £15 can't go wrong!

Came for a Monday burger deal and Friday steak night. Both times the food was delicious, well cooked and very affordable. Staff were really friendly and the pub itself is cosy and welcoming. Great value for money and dogs welcome in the bar which was brilliant. Will definitely be back.

I have been to the Oak twice, as a customer, and can honestly say the food, atmosphere and staff, are as good as it gets . Proper food, not typical chain pub fodder, and spotlessly clean and friendly.

Had lunch today, great food and service....

Had not visited here for a year or so. It has been refurbished. Very nicely done. The service was excellent, very well organised, it was quite busy with a lovely Christmassy atmosphere. The food was the best in Wotton and we had tried all four establishments over the last week or so with the Swan hotel coming second. The food was excellent. Confit duck with charred chicory and potatoes in a wonderful sauce for £13 and liver of venison with bacon in delicious gravy with mash and peas for £11. The set festive lunch, 2 courses for £19 looked good too. Highly recommended.

The Royal Oak is a beautiful real pub with lovely food, open fire, pool table, dart board, friendly, polite staff. This pub has it all.

As a reviewer I have high standards. The royal Oak provides excellent customer service and value for money. We have had two gourmet venison burgers for £20. We are new to Wotton-under-edge and we have tried most of the places to eat. The service is top notch and it isn't pretending to be something it isn't (*cough falcon*). You will get a top meal with high quality ingredients, service and exceptional value.

Haven't been to The Royal Oak for quite a while and decided to go for Sunday lunch. The meal was excellent with very generous portions and top quality meat. I had the pork belly roast and my friends had the roast beef. Both meals were superb. Efficient, friendly service considering the place was quite busy. We'll be back!

Had a meal here with friends and family. I wasn't massively hungry so just had a basket meal (which was by no means a small offering, and I'd definitely recommend) Everybody else seemed very pleased with their meals too....

I have fond memories of growing up in Wotton, and socialised in most of the pubs in the town at one point or another. As a result, I was happy when a family get together was arranged at the Royal Oak. The food there in the past had been very good, and thoroughly enjoyable. We arrived early as a largish group as we planned to have a few drinks before the prebooked lunch, but were surprised to find we had been allotted three separate tables, and not tables placed together. Okay, maybe some pubs don't allow this, but other tables had been joined together and reserved for groups, and so clearly this should not have been an issue for us. We suggested the tables be placed together, and eventually the staff cottoned on and we were allowed to join two together, but this meant a table of four still had to sit separately, effectively removing them from the main group's conversation. Not a good start... A couple of us went to the bar to buy drinks, and somehow it took twenty minutes to be given the last drink - a coffee - because the bar staff clearly had no plan of action to manage customers' requests. The employee who took my order kept being asked by other staff to carry out other duties, taking him away from that core request (the coffee), leaving me standing there without my mother's coffee despite repeated requests for it. Eventually one of the other staff figured out why I was so standing there and sorted it out. Poor staff management is realistically the only cause here. We had been asked to confirm our meal choices to help the kitchen staff a few days beforehand, which we duly did. We were surprised then, to find our efforts had been for nought and no one had any idea what we were having. Again, this seems to indicate poor management. Lunch was very tasty, and plentiful. However, my only criticism was the beef. Everyone who ate the beef agreed it was way too tough. It felt like the beef had been cooked for the correct amount of time, but at too hot a temperature, resulting in a flavoursome, but too tough meat. It's a shame because the rest of the food was very nice indeed. In the pub's defence, everyone else enjoyed their food. Overall, we did enjoy being there, and it should have been a fine visit indeed. However, these (easily avoidable) events served to marr the occasion, and dragged the review score down way below what it should have been.

Good priced food, service was good (tho they forgot an egg on the gammon). Only thing that brought it down was the large bit of gristle in the chicken burger.

Brilliant pub to go to for a cycling lunch. We went with a group of 21 from a cycling club and had really friendly service! They welcomed us, rather than just tolerated us, and it was a pleasure to eat and drink there. Highly recommended for group rides!
