The Old Fleece in Stroud

Had the roast pork Sunday dinner here today. All tasted good - my only complaint was the portion of pork was on the small side - two thin pieces of loin and that's your lot. Enjoyed overall but I'd expect a bit more for my money.

Over the past year, I've eaten here about 5-6 times, including twice in the past month. Both times with family where we had fish & chips. Unfortunately the servings have been hit & miss. My fish was overcooked, batter hard & dried fish whereas the other family member there fish was lightly battered & succulent. I will try one more time & if same problem, will not return. Previously most of my food has been cooked perfectly but one time my steak was gristly which for over £25 I would not expect. Service & ambience/ decor excellent although our server was told about the fish & they apologised & took plates to the kitchen, then returned out almost immediately so obviously didn't say anything to kitchen staff

I had been visiting The Old Fleece for very many years & was always extremely satisfied. I often visited with old friends but, very sadly, I lost them. Covid hit, of course and all of a sudden I wasn't visiting, not just The Old Fleece but several old favourites. Well, on the way back from Westonbirt Arboretum a couple of weeks ago I said to the Good Lady "how about seeing if The Old Fleece can squeeze a couple in for lunch!" Damn I'm so glad they did. We went back again today and it was just as good; excellent Sunday roasts with delicious deserts and smiling staff that are wonderfully efficient. So glad we found it again. Will be back many more times in the future.

We visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening and booked our meal for early evening. It was just as well as the staff were running round like headless chickens! Although we had to wait a little while for our food to be served, it was very worthwhile and can recommend the food and the service. In particular, the sticky toffee pudding was excellent.

A large group of us visited The Old Fleece for an evening meal and we were really impressed. The food was well presented and really tasty, the staff were all really friendly and helpful, and it was very reasonably priced. I had the burger for main and the brownie and ice cream for dessert.

The old fleece is an amazing pub, with even better rooms. we stayed there for a night to get a good night sleep for a long car trip ahead. And we were nothing but astonished by the fantastic room we had especially for our first pub stay. Our room was the loft and it had everything we needed with a kitchen bedrooms and a bathroom. The food was amazing too, with classic pub meals done to perfection. There is a plethora of reasons to come here it's amazing and definitely deserves a 5 star review

Came in here on Sunday on my way back from the Midlands, back home to Trowbridge. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. The Roast beef was absolutely delicious & my Wife’s roast pork was also delicious. A proper Sunday lunch at reasonable prices ! Well worth a visit !

What a find! I booked Sunday lunch for Father’s Day having never eaten here before. I don’t do many reviews but I felt I must give credit where credit is due! Warm welcome, delicious food , incredible service with perfect timing on everything served. The staff did not miss a trick. We were a party of four including two children and had our slightly excitable dog and we felt so well looked after. We’ll definitely be back, thank you everyone involved with The Old Fleece!

Situated on a busy road with large car park, once inside it was warm and welcoming with an open fire. Great service throughout our meal and the food was outstanding, great choice and beautifully presented. Most definitely recommend.

Ordered three vegetarian wellingtons , nice filling pastry barely cooked on top and raw on the bottom. No apologies given when I complained . Paid most of the bill without a tip but again no apologies when I settled up , just left to walk out on our own . Will not be returning.

Went for a traditional Sunday roast with family, as part of a birthday celebration. we were greeted at the door with smiles, very well looked after and the food was excellent, we would thoroughly recommend the Old Fleece

The food was great but the service was terrible, waiting 20 mins to have our drinks order taken and then another 40 mins to be served our food (it wasn't busy). The food order was wrong and so had to be sent back. We were sat outside in the marquee which was cold.

The service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent - rich beef bourguignon which was really tender and a steak cooked just as requested. The dessert - orange and cardamon panna cotta was not overly sweet and the orange sauce topping was perfect. Sticky toffee pudding was much enjoyed too. Portion sizes are perfect and don't leave you feeling too full.

The food was very good with great service. I have had Sunday lunch here several times and always been good. Really like this place as able to take our dog with us.

We had a wonderful Saturday night at The Old Fleece with our son and his fiancée. The skin-on haddock and chips were delicious, and the beef bourguignon was a hit. The service was excellent, and the puddings were a delightful conclusion to a fantastic meal. Highly recommend for a delightful dining experience!

The staff at the Old Fleece are always welcoming and helpful. The food is great, especially the desserts. A good pub lunch.

The Old Fleece used to enjoy a reputation for great food at reasonable prices. It has a marvellous interior and the fire and candles on every table are a nice touch, but...I didn't think either the service or the food was particulary good or especially good value. I've had better for less money elsewhere sadly. We took friends who were visiting from abroad. One of them was keen to try Ale but the only option on tap was a Christmas Ale i.e. left over from the lead up to Christmas. Hardly inspiring. Why no local ales? We won't be rushing back but I wish them all the best. Maybe it's just during the off-season or the post-Christmas lull that things slide a bit. Let's hope so, it's a lovely place.

Meeting up with friends for lunch on a chilly Saturday, the welcome could not have been warmer. Great choice of food - we opted for mains and a pudding and everything was superb. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and we look forward to returning.

Haven't been to the Old Fleece for a while and decided to take my Step Father for a birthday lunch meal with my three grown up sons. Had a wonderful tasty meal- I had the chicken ballotine very tasty with little bits of liver on plate- delicious. Hubby had beef bourguignon. Pork tenderloin for one of my sons. The rest had the 10oz steak burger all really delicious with chips. Great pub lovely surroundings and good food at a reasonable price.

We booked to stay here for one night. Unfortunately there was a problem with the room at 11pm. It wasn't major and we were happy to stay there, but the manager insisted on moving us to a beautiful suite on the top floor of the hotel. He was very kind, helpful and generous and gave us a free breakfast at the Old Lodge, their sister establishment close by. We weren't expecting it and didn't ask but it was a very welcome gesture. Would definately stay here again.

We were looking for a pub dinner with friendly atmosphere that was good value close to our hotel. We found that. Lovely friendly warm welcome, a choice of places to sit and a relaxed environment. Had a small mediocre Sunday dinner, 3 thin slices of beef, 1 carrot (which was the nicest thing on the plate) 3 hard roast potatoes, celeriac puree & a burnt yorky. Food was tepid & all for £20. Visited with my wife and went to the Vineyard for the day. Staff were excellent and the food was decent. Location isn’t great on a busy main road so the information when staying is deceiving. However well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Only reason I wouldn’t go back is the location but everything else was spot on.
