Brilliant service and food is good but could be improved abit

Interesting experience for me. When I first saw the place I could tell the shop was ran by the old boys, the run down look matched experienced season Hong Kong Chinese veterans. Unfortunately, it seems I’m some years too late to meet them. I was greeted by a Mainland China owner who was a Mandarin speaker. This must be the “new management” which the other reviews have mentioned. They were openly and proudly advertising their mixed salt and pepper box for £20 on the front desk so I thought they must be quite proud of their salt and pepper dishes. So I ordered Salt and Pepper Chicken. With due respect to them, they can make a good salt and pepper dish. So far my 3 days of sampling Chinese takeaways in this area. I found what might be a winner for salt and pepper! This salt and pepper variant is popular in the midlands, not often found elsewhere where in England. They follow the double deep fried anthology so even if its been sat in the container for some 15 minutes its not soggy, still crispy! Cannot fault them for their salt and pepper dishes. Potentially best in this area if not at least compared to the local villages. Unfortunately, this is where I have to end their praise but I will be critical, not negative. Their BBQ pork fried rice was somewhat tasteless. Lacked some flavour, rice was too dry, not enough soy sauce used. But it is slightly offset by the default large container - making it decent for value. I have to commend them for the generous portion size. Also need to include that their egg fried rice has the same consistency of dryness regretfully. The boss lady was very friendly to me, I was happy with her service.

Fantastic meal, got the new giant spice box, was enough for 4 people and was delicious, great selection in there too!

I ate there for three days. I was buying dinner. I recommend it to everyone. The food is tasty, rich in vegetables and meat. Even though I don't like rice, I bought it here exceptionally. The soups were tasty and, importantly, after a 15-minute walk on a cold day, the food was still hot. I recommend it again.

This was the first time that we've used our local Chinese takeaway, and the experience was really good. I ordered online, and after registering, the website was very good. On collection after 20 minutes, the portions were delicious and generous. In fact we had enough for a second meal the next day. We will definitely be ordering from here again, and next time, I'll take some photos!

Food freezing cold in the middle. They did refund me but I wont be going back any time soon. Hope I get through the night ok!

Absolutely awful, bland, dry and threw most of it in the bin.

At one point I was sure the Chicken chow mein was going to self combust, Dry is an understatement. Very fatty ribs, poor prawn crackers and overpriced to boot. First and last time for me 👎

I've just had a takeout house special chow mein was tasteless cheap small prawns not good sorry specialfried rice was slightly better hoisin sauce served cold chips was the best thing , very disappointed .

It would be lovely to see more vegan options here. Many other Chinese takeaways offer mock duck, chicken, tofu... It's easy to do!

Regularly use Chinese kitchens in and around Bristol and the Hong Kong Kitchen on average about once a fortnight. The food is very good indeed, especial under the current owner/chef. Beef and Mushrooms is very enjoyable, as is the Crispy Chicken, in fact, as all the main dishes. The Special Fried Rice is yummie. Keep up the good takeaways!

I had a big order especially chicken balls it was very tasty and chill beef is crispy and tasty fast to get it. Warm and hot ! excellent service. We will definitely order again!

We have visited this Chinese 3 times in the last 2 months and have had a lovely takeaway everytime! Probably the nicest one around, not sure where the previous bad reviews have come from, I think it's under new management

Used this 4 times in the last month and great food every time. Chicken chow mein excellent. Also liked the chicken fried rice.

Excellent sweet & sour chicken Hong Kong style and chicken fried rice. Their chips are always good. Would recommend.

I feel the need to write this review after three bad takeaways on the bounce. We have given the new owners three chances, thinking every time we would give them the benefit of the doubt, but it’s seriously gone down hill.The first time we had it the chicken chow mien didn’t taste like chicken. So next time I thought I would have beef and that was just fatty and chewy, basically inedible. The chips were also stone cold.So this week I thought I would have plain chow mien which was ok, they couldn’t really get that wrong, but the chips were cold again abad the chicken balls were soggy. My husbands pork chow mien was more fat than pork, just disgusting. Safe to say we think we have given them enough chances and won’t be going back! Such a waste of money!

Under new management. Food is of a surprisingly good standard. Online ordering works well especially as they only take cash over the counter at the moment. Prawn crackers are nice and crisp and not at all greasy. I like the free fortune cookies...😊

Have always enjoyed the food from here, but appreciate it was New Years Eve, I did ring in very good time before collection time required, 90mins. Went through the order. When arrived to collect food not ready, seemed to be chaos at the till with the amount of orders in, was told sorry 10-15mins. After 25mins I asked again, in the mean time people in and out with food collection. Phone kept ringing orders being taken...then my food arrived i went through the order again. Great of we go. Got home, something wrong!! The mixed platter ordered was not there and some single obscure dish in its place..by now v hungry and we had walked to the shop and back for this food so perhaps wrongly put up with it.. also quality of our favourites that we did have was not up to usual standards.. Overall disappointment ensued. It seems to me a system of when an order comes then orders follow behind and so on etc. Plus they do on line ordering too it would seem and I wonder how those orders fit in with phone orders too... Please put a order system in place if you want a less stressful life and keep customers happy, also make the quality and accuracy of your food is correct too because I guess you do want Happy returning customers.... Tasty food for reasonable price

Features the same bogus 'Chinese' cuisine that was introduced in the 1950s and 60s by emigrants from Hong Kong. Tinned bamboo shoots and lychees, frozen peas and prawns, fried rice with variable quantities of recycled boiled rice, glutinous vinegar and pineapple sauce, in short the only thing Chinese about it is the lettering.

Always go here, better than other places around. Cooked fresh and prices are pretty good too. Beautiful.

Handy having fish and chips and Chinese in one shop. Food was good, bit of a wait but we didn't phone ahead so partly our fault. The shop could do with a makeover but staff were nice

Todo lo que tengo es chow mien, ellos ni siquiera pueden entenderlo bien, tuve un chow mien de cerdo hace unos meses, por suerte no soy alérgico a los mariscos como algunas personas, ya que tenía gambas, yo Escuché que había mejorado, así que le daría otra vez, ordené lo mismo otra vez, esta vez tenía huevo frito, ya que esto podría ser peligroso para algunas personas resolverlo.

It’s okay, the food’s not bad. The last time I went here I had a bad experience; it was a big family order of >£50, the price was more than I was expecting and I was about a £1 short. There was a massive queue and loads of people waiting so I was embarrassed and they don’t take card payments, which in this day and age seems crazy... I had to race up the street to the cash point to take out more money for an additional £1 !! My own fault I know, but I have not been back since this. I don’t understand why they can’t keep up with the times and take other forms of payment, especially as they seem a popular takeaway and prices do go high if you’ve got a large order. The parking outside is also rubbish at busy times. I now use Charfield Chopsticks ... a smaller establishment but they take card payments, parking is easier and the place seems more modern and clean.

I was really please with the lemon chicken and satay dishes; often I have found elsewhere they use chicken nuggets, but here at the Hong Kong Kitchen it was proper chicken breast. And tasty too. Great sized portions.

A few months ago this would have been a 5 star review. I am not sure what happened but the last couple of takeaways we have had from here have been really disappointing. Reading other reviews iit seems there has been a change of management. The crispy chilli beef used to be superb, now it's just floury, tasteless and overcooked. The special noodles was bland. Spring rolls were fine though. We are now considering Charfield even though its a 10 minute drive away rather than the 2 minutes it takes to get here.

Under nrw management, gave it a chance following previous bad reviews, can only say it has gone fown hill, I know that does not seem posdible but they have excelled.

Revisited here because of a change of ownership and chef but nothing has changed!!Got chicken chow mein for our kids (can't go wrong with that!) but wanted spicy food for me and my wife. Ordered crispy shredded beef with chili which was more like bland soggy twiglets and then I asked the front of house girl for a recommendation for a spicy chicken dish, she said the chicken szechuan style was the best! Honestly it was bland bland bland!!! Tasteless isn't the word!! Crap is a polite word for this food!! Never again

Hemos estado dos veces en los últimos 3 semanas para llevar desde la cocina de Hong Kong. El chow mein era preciosa, muy bien hecha y sabrosa. También nos gustó el rollitos de primavera, mi padre incluso dijo que era el mejor que he tenido Spring roll! Estoy seguro de que volveremos pronto.

Este chino para llevar siempre fue muy buena comida, porciones generosas. Por desgracia, ya que los nuevos propietarios ha ido mucho cuesta abajo ha sido replicado por otras personas locales que habían estado yendo allí durante años. Yo pedí un curry de verduras que he tenido muchas veces antes había apenas unas pocas verduras cualquier y brotes de soja, champiñones cortados en la mitad de uno a un montón de setas y mucho más vegetales cocidos, el arroz era menor y la porción de patatas fritas la mitad de tamaño y? Congelados como insípidas. Es una pena, ya que los dueños anteriores eran muy respetados y eran parte de la comunidad, por favor no dejes este llevar desaparecen necesitan prestar más atención a la cantidad de ingredientes y tamaños de poción.

Pedí un plato y le pregunté si podía conseguir extra picante (i. e. tire algunas extra guindillas). La respuesta fue un gran 'No'. Después de tomar la comida y probar, que era bastante soso y decepcionante en el mejor de los casos (la verdura y la sustancia gloopy), me di cuenta de que no lo hacen más caliente si se trata de un frasco!Probamos de nuevo un par de semanas más tarde. . . Mismo. diferentes platos y, pasada, Sosa gloopy mierda! !No hay competencia en Wotton, pero si un nuevo restaurante chino abierto en la ciudad, gente que darán cuenta cómo mierda la cocina de Hong Kong es realmente!

Mi compañero metimos en una pizzería de emergencia después de trabajar hasta tarde. Nunca había comido desde allí antes como él siempre ha dicho que la comida es mediocre pero muy caro. Él tenía carne crujientes de chili y dijo que estaba bien, pero yo tenía un rollo de primavera. Fue horrible. El tamaño de una masa pasty y esponjoso unos 1,5 cm de espesor! La abundante era 95% soja con 3 o 4 muy pequeñas piezas de cerdo y gambas 3 metido en la masa en un extremo. Nunca, jamás, otra vez. Debo reiterar que mi compañero pensamos que su comida era aceptable, por lo tanto la puntuación media. Sólo ten cuidado con los rollitos de primavera.

By far the best Chinese takeout in the area, Usually a quick turnaround and food is always fresh and good quality I would say the portions are good sizes to.

We always come here as it's our local Chinese takeaway, and have always enjoyed the food. I'd recommend it.

This chinese take away is one of the best around, the food was amazing and not greasy, the tables were comfy and they were all very welcoming

The shop is looking a bit tired, but generally clean. It seems to be all freshly cooked, but sometime watery. Delivery would be a great option

Visited here for a takeaway and I'm sad to say it is without a doubt, the worst Chinese Takeaway I have ever had. Bland, tasteless and watery... A real disappointment. The price was also pretty high. Over £20 for three mains and a fried rice. Definitely won't be going back.

Went back for the first time in 5 years. That time was bad. This was terrible. Not written a review before but was compelled to come on and express just how bad the food is. The lemon chicken was deep fried slop and the beef in Chinese vegetables had very little in it that was edible. I would avoid if at all possible

If you like Chinese food, the Hong Kong Kitchen provides freshly cooked food at value for money prices. Most popular dishes are available, my favourite being spare ribs. My wife loves their curries and their home made spring rolls are superb.

We thought we'd give this place a go, despite the reviews having recently moved into the area. The food really was terrible and not the cheapest either. Its a real shame that there aren't any other Chinese takeaways local to Wotton. We won't be back in a hurry unless things improve massively.

This is our local Chinese, and a short walk away.It's certainly not the best Chinese by any stretch. It's not awful as some of the reviews say, and the food is certainly edible. It probably helps to choose the right dishes - we like the chilli beef dishes and curries. But if there was competition I doubt it would be our first choice.

Chewy, over-cooked food. Very expensive. Definitely would not return to this takeaway or recommend to others. A total waste of money. Appalling. That is all.

You know what it's like...fancy a bit of Chinese food and you can't be bothered to cook. You wish somewhere delivered to make it easy. In the end you phone your order in and get in the car.You get back and unpack the food, eat about a quarter of it and then realise it just wasn't worth the effort or the price you paid. It really gets on my nerves when you pay quite a bit of money for crap food. Get yourself a takeaway from tesco or asda for less than half the price.

We had a lovely takeaway. BBQ Spare ribs. Crispy beef kung po sauce, pork with hoi sin sauce, chicken with bean sprouts in oyster sauce and prawn crackers, all for less than £30 and fed our family (3 teenagers. keep up the good work, The Carr family - Wotton-under-Edge:) :)

Tried the place for a second time. I tried the fish and chips this time as last time the 'chinease' food was so poor the dog got most of it. The chips were hard and greasy and not cooked. The fish came presented in its own oil slick with the uncrispy batter floating around somewhere. Wotton needs a good takeaway service. Some competition to to sort things out.I think the march review was probably written by staff or owner.

I have been going here as far as I remember as a local resident. They have an excellent varied menu :-)) and I would recommend it to all looking for a local take away.

One of the worst Chinese style take away restaurants I have been to. The same menu you have seen a thousand times cooked a thousand times worse. Avoid. Staff could barely raise a smile. Then again it would be hard to raise a smile serving that slop.
