These reviews look well suss...of 147 reviews 45 of them all appeared at the same time (4 months ago), all giving 5 stars and all from reviewers either commenting in Arabic or with names more common in Middle Eastern countries than in Nailsworth, which, whilst lovely, is not known for its ethnic diversity. I guess Chop suey house could have had a coach party in from Birmingham but also, they may not have...I'll order from Ben's I think

Haven’t been here for a year .Had a meal last week which was superb so went back again for a Christmas Eve Chinese.Even better ! The food is really delicious & 100% best by far in area.

Was better 5 years ago. Clearly a lot has changed. But prices are still the same. Will not be returning

Yuck, satay chicken was barely cooked, Crispy beef tasted odd. Won't be going back no wonder it's cheap

Most of the food was lovely, but the chicken satay sticks were not good, they were not cooked in the middle, the chicken was slimy

Firstly, a simple order of 4 dishes was completely wrong. Given a chicken curry instead of Singapore another rice instead of noodles. Secondly, the dishes we did receive were terrible! Very dry, bland and incredibly salty. We both felt quite ill after, not sure how much MSG they're putting in their meals but I'm positive it is A LOT!!!!!!! Would 100% NEVER RETURN. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.

It's my favourite of the Chinese restaurants around Stroud. Some of the dishes are not exactly what you'd expect from a western Chinese restaurant but they are all the better for it as far as I'm concerned. Less standard but more tasty.

If you steer clear of the chicken dishes (recon chicken), it's just ok. Salt and pepper fries seem popluar. Cash only, Waiting room pretty inhospitable.

The food was average. However, what stood out was the option of Vegan.

Chop Suey House is, we think, the best Chinese takeaway in the area. I'm very glad to have moved back to the area and can enjoy it again. Delicious food.

Shame you can't give a minus 3 rating as this is the only number that fits the Chop Suey house. It was the most bland Asian food we've ever eaten, very poor compared to other Chinese food outlets In the area. If you like Chinese food avoid this place as it will put you off.

It's the first time since the new owners. Tasty enough. Bit stingy on the chicken balls and sweet and sour sauce. I would go again. Edit. I went the next week and ordered the same plus a pancake roll. Awful. The stingy chicken strips rather than balls were greasy and chewy. The roll had no discernable meat in it and dripped grease. No thanks! 2nd edit. Gave them one last try. I was standing at the counter for 5 to 10 minutes, shouting and whistling. Eventually, someone turned up and explained that the rest of the staff went home at 9 because they had children and it got quiet after then?? Lone bloke is now cooking my order. We wait and see! Some of the meat was a bit chewy in the beef chow mein, but otherwise tasty as was the egg fried rice and chips.

My husband and I were on a mini getaway from London to the Cotswold and stayed in this little town and after a few days I was craving some Asian food and this place just happened to be across the street from where we were staying. The reviews looked good so we ordered some vegetable chow mein and the crispy duck and they were both amazing. I was really surprised how good the food was. A lot of great veggies in the chow mein and the crispy duck came with the the fixings like the warm pancake wraps, cucumber, scallions, and plum sauce all packaged perfectly.

Terrible order. Greasy chips with a plain omelette that was 70% onion, 30% egg and had far too much pepper on it. This used to be a good takeaway but since changing owners it has taken a real dive.

Over an hour for our food to arrive, and then items were missing from our order! Called up to ask for these and was told they could only drop them off if we paid the delivery charge AGAIN. Otherwise they’d give them to us next time!! Not fair at all!

Very quick, great service, amazing food

We treated ourselves to a takeaway from this Chinese. The Food Standards rating in February 2021 re hygiene etc was 4 but I think they need to revisit. The strips of chicken in my Chicken Cashew dish were very thin and were weird looking, crinkled shapes. They tasted of fish and were a little bit slimy too - suggesting that they had been stored in water and at an insufficient temperature for some time. After trying two mouthfuls I just had to throw the rest away. The chicken balls were OK but the rice was not the best either. In these Covid times, we were not happy that they would only accept cash payments too.

Very friendly staff, relatively quick service for a Friday night and I hadn't ordered ahead. Food was spot on, very tasty, good portions and full of flavour. Will most certainly be back again to try out some other dishes.

Wow! Delicious Chinese food. Big portions, non greasy and so good in particular the lemon chicken, special fried rice and sweet n sour sauce. Definitely will revisit. Friendly staff. Cash only.

When it had been taken over from the previous owners who had been there from the mid 70's I tried it once and found the quality had gone down considerably. Lately I've heard some good feedback and thought I'd give it ago again. This is now fantastic, much less grease used in the cooking, great flavours and good prices. Will now be a regular at this Chinese in Nailsworth. Well done👍👍👍⭐⭐⭐

Gone down hill under new owners.

Since it changed hands we had not made the time to try the new owners cooking. I have to say it was very good from a takeaway perspective. The crispy beef shreds were actually still crispy when I got it back home and there were decent flavours in the food. Decent prices and quick service. Friendly front of house.

Chinese takeaways are always very subjective but this one was tasty and the fried rice and noodles were just the way I like them. The sweet and sour sauce as not the nicest I have had but all-in-all we enjoyed our takeaway whilst visiting Nailsworth.

Love the food here, the meat is good quality and the veggies are fresh. Don’t forget to go to the cash point next door as they don’t take card.

I can honestly say I give this place 10/10 I eat from here at least twice a month. It’s amazing food. Amazing service and in such a lovely area.

Great takeout for Chinese food.

It is more expensive since it changed hands at the end of 2018, but the food is much better.

Not as good as Dads. Too much pineapple, not enough duck. Same for chicken. Fried rice not fried rice. Boiled rice with a bit of egg. Not good , shame, used to be a very good takeaway . Bit of a downer for new years eve.

New owners, but food just as good as previous owners. We've been there for years, once a week and will continue to. Give it a try and find out for yourself. Support our local businesses.

Ordered 2 vegetarian spring rolls but got 2 with meat and fish, ( I don't eat meat or fish as it makes me feel sick) not the first time this has happened from here, will probably not go here again as I'm not happy, still hungry and feel sick from this meal.

This was a very good meal. Service was prompt. The Singapore Chow Mein was excellent - nice and spicy, and the Sweet and Sour Chicken cantonese style was very good. Great value meal.

Been using this chinese since we moved here a year ago. Can't complain about anything we have. Food is always hot, tastes amazing and the staff are always friendly

We have been using this takeaway for a couple of years now and I am happy to say we have not had a bad meal. Singapore Chow Mein is my personal favourite. It is a shame they do not do starters as I miss the crispy aromatic duck for a starter. It is a bit odd but they don't have a web site with their their menu available to look at. Still the food is great and not at all expensive. Looking forward to our next meal.

I have reviewed this takeaway previously when I thought their standards had fallen but that has all changed and we have had some very good food from them of late. However the box in which my takeaway was put for me to carry away last night will be stopping me from ordering from them again. It was a Halal chicken suppliers box. I know a lot of people have no issues with this but I do. I have worked with animals all my farming life and I do not want to unwittingly eat this meat. Although there is no legal requirment for them to do so I believe that they should clearly label their chicken as Halal. People should be entitled to know what they are eating.

Ordered a take-away meal for 4 whilst on holiday in the area. Our meal was delicious with a good variety of choices available on the menu. Service was prompt and pleasant. Would order again.

Decent food but ribs are not nice

Been getting my Chinese takeaways from this business for as long as I can remember (at least the past 15+ years)! Never had a bad meal!

I'm moving shortly from Stroud to Wales and this is the only takeaway I'm going to miss. I drive here rather than use one of the takeaways in Stroud as this is simply the best in the district!

I would never go anywhere else! I have been getting Chinese from Chop Suey since I was a child and any others I've tried while growing up have not even come close! Adore their food :)

Good food without pushing any particular buttons. Most take away Chinese dishes available. If you have a special request, staff will try their best to go off menu for you and provide what you want. Staff are friendly enough. Best to phone through order during busy times to avoid a bit of wait for this popular take away. Ample parking close to the premises. Open late at weekends, midnight, ideal if you're leaving late after a drink or 6 and if you become a regular, they will cook for you if they're closed but see you at the door.

This delightful takeaway may at first glance look a little on the dated side, and the interior a bit sparse and like me, a little tired, perhaps even empty and unpatronised. But take it from me, this set of circumstances can only be due to its concentration on delivering first class food in a very timely way. I recommend this place unreservedly, and trust me , I am a bit of a food snob, I love this place.

It has been a while since we had a Chinese from here and had just come back from holiday so decided to get one. Well wish we had never bothered spent £26 only to be left disappointed and inedible, we had a set meal and also purchased spring roll and other items ....the food smelt appalling and spring roll had a peculiar taste,the set meal of 4 dishes was bland and tasteless and after spending this amount of money we were left starving...there was only one place it was fit for and that was the BIN...Will never eat here again it was terrible.

Use this ;take away regularly. The staff are lovely,service is very good -and you rarely have to wait long of your meal to be freshly cooked. The food is lush!

We have been using this takeaway occasionally for many years so are in a good position to notice a definite change in the quality of the food at Chop Suey House. Having eaten a takeaway from them last night we came to the conclusion that the food is no longer cooked fresh to order. We had 3 different chicken dishes and in all off them the chicken had the taste of pre-cooked chicken that had just been re-heated. In our opinion, this gives a blandness to all the dishes as the chicken just tastes like chicken, i.e it doesn't take on the taste/flavour of the dish during the cooking process. We wonder if there has been a change of ownership or are they just cutting corners? Either way we will be going elsewhere for our Chinese takeaways.

Whilst it's not like Chinatown or China itself, what do you expect, it's a small Chinese takeaway in a small town in the middle of nowhere.The food however is good, tasty and great value for money. We had a chicken curry and boiled rice (£5.20) and a large portion of chips (£2).Recommended.

If you like your chinese food cooked in a traditional British manner then this is the place to go.The waiting area is unchanged in 10 years and there are better choices for takeaway food locally

I have used this take away dozens of times in the last couple of years. The food is of a really good quality and it is probably the best Chinese take away I have used. What's better - it's on my doorstep!
