The best restaurants in South Somerset South West

It is hard to believe this cafe is rated so highly. The food was mediocre and the server and his mother create a depressing atmosphere. Plates were thrown down, the server was really unfriendly in general. Go to The Chapel instead for real food and decent service.

Fabulous food! Fabulous friendly and super helpful attentive staff. I had lamb,so delicious, partner had 5 Bean chilli. He felt although it was tasty he would have liked it a bit more spicy. This was taken on board as helpful feedback by the staff. Great Saturday lunch, lovely environment and fab staff. Definitely will go there again and recommend it.

We were staying in Charlton Musgrove for the weekend to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We went to The Smithy for a meal on Friday night. They looked after the 10 of us superbly. This is a very welcoming pub, lovely interior, fabulous roaring fire and a nice pub garden. The owners and staff were all so friendly and the food was lovely. Thank you so much for looking after us so well and for making it such a memorable night. We will be back one day!

Despite being busy, the staff were helpful, cheerful and took time to get things right. We had morning coffee and the coffee was good, the cheese scones were really delicious and we’ll definitely be back! There is a fantastic array of cakes to suit all.

This is one of the best places I’ve been in a long time. Great food and excellent value for money. Not sure how they manage to keep prices down. Staff very friendly too

Stayed at The Lordleaze for 2 nights for a function. Originally an old farm house which has been lovingly converted into a small hotel. Room was clean, warm and had constant hot water - but a bit tired. Could do with a little more drawer space - especially either side of the bed which currently has a small open piece of furniture with a lamp on it. A bedside cabinet with drawers would be nice for more storage. The restaurant and conservatory were inviting with good decor. The function we attended was in the conservatory and food, staff and ambience was faultless. We ate in the bar area the 2nd evening and enjoyed the Sunday roast, the fire in the hearth and helpful/attentive staff. The hotel is surrounded by fields with sheep grazing but you do have to go through a housing estate to reach it. Would go back.

Sad to say chips dry and fish cake soggy. Trying not to be mean but batter was also thick. Very very disappointing for £33.

Shading staff, beautiful building, free parking... Slowest wifi I've ever seen, no signs in shower for slipping, no Matt, non working extractor fan, TV blocked by bad railing had to raise TV, wall drops is on 1 pieces pretty dangerous as the top bit can simply fall off. No breakfast at least not at 8am. Window had so many slides webs looked like it had never been shut. Plug socket had 1 of 2 working physical with it. Finally shower worked sometimes depending on water pressie. Needs a lot of work. Maybe I would give a different room a try. Not worth more than 30 quid m.

Very polite small and compact little restaurant tables late out lovely. Gentleman who served us was most courteous. Remember this place is not licenced but you can bring your own drink with no corkage charge. The only thing that I found was expensive was the poppy dons charging £1.95 each. Will return but I will only be having 2. Keep up the good work
