The best restaurants in South Somerset South West

Our favourite local Indian takeaway. Never had a bad experience there.

A very welcoming traditional locals pub,very small with an open fire although naturally not lit on a May evening Could do with a coat of paint but that’s only a very small criticism A few ciders and real ales were available but most seemed to be drinking lager The girl behind the bar stuck a notice up whilst I was in on the Friday evening stating drugs will not be tolerated but I assume this was for legal reasons as the clientele didn’t appear to be anything other than working class people having a few beers I look forward to revisiting next year when I’m at the steam fair Updated May 2025 Been done up very nicely since my last visit and still has the same pleasant atmosphere and staff. The barmaid kept asking people if there were any chickens out there.No idea what that was all about,she seemed normal but it puzzled a few others aswell as me.

Wonderful authentic Thai food , made with fresh ingredients and very reasonably priced . We enjoyed our meal very much tonight and our friends Friday night get together …. The only negative we had was that although the dining area is lovely , it definitely lacked any atmosphere , infact we felt it cringingly quiet .. Thai music playing in the background , would have been a very nice addition

Outstanding carvery . First time we have visited and really impressed. Have been to a few carvery’s in the area and this is definitely one of the best . Beautiful grounds good selection of drinks . The roast beef was absolutely fantastic and a very good selection of vegetables, had a look at the weekly menu I am sure this place will do well , definitely worth a visit

Only call in when travelling to Chard, always make detour to get my fish and chips here. The batter and fish is the best I have ever had, from Blackpool, Yorkshire, all over UK. Best wishes.

I'm not sure if the lady treats everyone like this on a Sunday morning. She shouted over a coffee order at the same time stating she has a lot of people to feed and we need to hurry. That moment we were her only customers. When a friend asked for more bread she said eat what you have on the table. It felt so rude. The other customers sat . She seemed very friendly with them. The only difference was that we were all black mix race. She made it clear she did not want to have breakfast with us. So that was the start of our Sunday morning of the Bank Holiday weekend. Also full English did not come with hash brown. That really upset me . The others had hash browns looking over. She was not interested if we enjoyed our stay. Its still on my mind one week later.

Said they would bar us for playing pool and were very rude

Vibrant friendly atmosphere with wonderful staff! Great for watching the football! Parking at the back.

Went to this cafe to get some breakfast and a hot drink, we entered the cafe and my sister went to look for a seat as the cafe looked a bit cold, so we wanted somewhere out the back, as soon as she walked towards the back, the snotty woman serving was extremely rude nearly shouting ‘can I help you’ in front of other customers, as though my sister was doing something wrong! Not going in staff quarters just to the rear of the cafe! Then proudly announced that they were not serving food only drinks! This all could have been relayed to us in a more inviting way, we just felt we were putting her out having dared walk into A cafe. Staff training needed here.

Singapore Chow Mein is my favourite. We've never had a bad meal from this takeaway, tried others but are lucky to be local to this place.

Brilliant chippy, has been for years. Huge portion sizes always hot food and delicious. 5 star chippy this one. Lots of choices on the menu, polite and warming staff

Ignore all the key board warriors with nothing better to do than moan at small things. A great coffee shop. Nice staff. Lovely location. Will definitely visit again. One review I read mentioned that they had many great visits to this coffee shop but after one negative visit they decided to write a bad review. How petty. It’s a pity they didn’t leave great reviews for all the nice visits they had made there. I love it in there. Lovely coffee. Friendly. Nice and relaxing.

We began our visit with a visit to Nina's Cafe for a cream tea with sandwiches and it was fabulous - a very tasty meal with professional and friendly service. Plenty to see, just a little disappointed that we could not interact with the cats.

Wow what an amazing experience and a beautiful place. We had a lovely breakfast in the morning and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. We then strolled around the grounds, this place is absolutely stunning and huge I can’t wait to go back .

Outside seating undercover so dog friendly. Inside seating spotless We always plan to have something new from their very extensive menu but.... the breakfasts are just so good that despite visiting almost every other month, A No % breakfast is a must. Amazing value for money, good quality sausages (the standard we judge every breakfast by) and always piping hot. Nothing fancy, more of a working cafe but spotless and great food at a fantastic value. They also do delivery and are very popular.
