This seems a busy cafe with locals. There is lots of cakes available and they also sell i chocolates to take away and gift wrapped as presents. The staff are friendly and accommodating of young children. There is quite a few tables and chair at the back of the cafe for seating. The coffee and hot chocolate is good as are the cakes - large portion size of cakes! There is also a large menu for savoury food.

Came in earlier today with my father with the hope of having a coffee and a coffee, we were not politely greeted but instead told to sit down and they will get around to it. All we were trying to do was choose our cakes before ordering! After sitting down we heard the waitress behind the counter rudely whispering to her colleagues that we ‘have to understand that we are busy and they have to wait’. Other customers coming in were told to leave as there were no seats, no polite tone of voice or even an apology. After 15 minutes with not even a ‘sorry we are busy’ or ‘we will be with you soon’ we left without even ordering.

My daughter and I stopped for lunch yesterday. Lovely friendly staff. The cafe has a really nice warm feel.We chose a cheese and onion pannini and lental dahl soup. Both very tasty and delicious. My daughter enjoyed a strawberry milkshake and I enjoyed my pot of tea. One thing we would change if at all possible is ditching the plastic straws for metal straws for the milkshakes. We have changed this at home and it's so good for the environment.Thankyou for having us. We will be back soon.

A great place for coffee, tea or snack it is ideally located in the centre of Castle Cary next to the market house. Just off the A371 they offer a range of light lunches. Try to get one of the tables by the front window where you will get a expansive view of the High Street If you are local they have an excellent loyalty scheme. The staff are extremely friendly. After a drink or snack you could visit the local museum which is located in the Market House or like us take in some of the local shops or visit the ancient lock up just by the Post Office. There is free car park a couple of minutes down the road by the fire station as parking in the town can sometimes be a problem.

I went in with my friend for a cup of coffee at her recommendation, and I had a delicious pineapple smoothie. The breakfast menu was on our table and I couldn't say no to the avocado smash. Best breakfast I've had in ages, it was absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't stop raving about it when I went home to my partner and brother - so made them come back with me for lunch. The staff were friendly and I couldn't believe that we got a lunch and a premium drink (milkshakes and smoothies) and it came to £25 for all three of us. I was literally shocked when the guy said the price and said "Is that with the drinks too?!" So reasonable for such good food. A huge range of veggie options for me & partner, which is rare! I wish I still lived in Somerset as I'd be a regular but at least I know where to come when I'm in Castle Cary from now on. Thank you for a lovely breakfast and lunch!

Slightly disappointed with our second lunch visit. Had two salads - Tuna was fine but the quiche salad was not, the quiche was cheese only and had been over microwaved to warm, and it was presented as a molten mess. Rule one - don't microwave pastry, especially with a high proportion of cheese! Staff acknowledged the problem and replaced with unheated quiche but this was far too rich being almost 100% cheese. Stick to a conventional lighter quiche recipe with bacon and egg please!

Unfortunately the till was broken which was a bit of a shame but we had cash so not a problem. My only issue was my scrambled egg was £2.45 for a single piece of toast with scrambled egg on top I was quite suprised that it cost that much for a single piece of toast with egg. I think maybe the place is aimed at slightly higher class people then myself who have more money to spend as I found this pretty expensive. £4 for a hot chocolate was pretty steep too but it was very nice.

Sadly, having been numerous times and been satisfied, if not blown away, my recent visit was shocking. I ordered a Cheese Ploughman's which one would have thought would be simple enough. The menu described a tempting meal, and priced at nearly £7 expectations were quite high. It arrived on a slate, which was ok, with one pickled onion, one tomato, a piece of stale wholemeal roll which was advertised as half a baguette, but in reality was half a small roll, so stale as to be inedible. A tiny butter pat dish had some chutney in. That was it except for an enormous piece of cheddar. Totally unacceptable. I went to the counter to complain( very politely ) and the young blonde turned around and said " What's wrong with that?" Enough said. Maybe some tuition on presentation and customer service would be advisable. A good customer, lost sadly.

I have visited this cafe regularly as I live locally. The service is usually a little slow (in fact last week I had to go to the counter to remind them I was waiting but no big deal as I wasn't in a hurry) Positive points are that the coffee is good and comes with a complimentary biscuit. Panini's and light lunches I've had there were good value but today the service was so awful we left without ordering. I happened to check the time as we went in (1.25) and we waited a full 10 minutes without even being acknowledged. The waitress was busy but she must have been aware of us sitting at a dirty table waiting to order. I went to the counter to ask if she was the only waitress taking orders "er yes" was the reply (rudely I might add) I explained we'd been waiting without being acknowledged so the young girl said she'd tell the waitress when she got back and said "sorry about that" Unfortunately we simply didn't have time to wait for goodness knows how long to be served today so we left.It does seem pretty poor to only have 1 waitress during a busy lunch hour and I appreciate that it's difficult when there is a rush on. However, had the waitress said "Sorry to keep you waiting I'll be with you as soon as I can" we wouldn't have been left wondering whether we were ever going to get served. Really disappointing. I won't be visiting this cafe again.

Myself and some friends had agreed to meet in the town for lunch and were advised that The Place offered both good food, excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere..We were certainly not disappointed. The Place was a real find and Christa and her staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great time.

My wife and I were meeting friends in Castle Cary at the weekend and stumbled across this lovely little coffee shop right in the centre of town. We received a very warm welcome from the owner who showed us to the seating area at the rear of the shop, although very busy the staff were very attentive and our orders taken promptly. The menu was quiet varied offering soups, salads, sandwiches and Panini's (I must say the chicken, bacon and mayonnaise Panini I had was to die for !!!!) and as well as your normal speciality teas and coffees they also serve a selection of beers and wines. When chatting to the owner Philip, he informed us that he and his wife Christa had just taken over "The Place" and were just finding their feet but they had lots of plans for the future including opening on a Friday/Saturday evening as a wine bar serving light bites and sharing platters which I think starts at the end of October. If this is finding your feet then I must say they seemed to have got it right first time, welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, attentive staff and great food !!!!It was great to find a place like this in "Sleepy Somerset" and we would not hesitate to recommend it to our friends.

What a delightful place to stay at. We stayed for a couple of nights to visit the surrounding area and had the friendliest welcome and comfortable stay. James, the waiter in the evening, was a credit to them. He helped you choose what to eat and was attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding, especially the fish dishes. The breakfast was the best we have ever had and was cooked to order with local produce. Cannot wait to return.

Booked for dinner but on arrival, they thought we had booked for buffet, fortunately they had a table for us within a short time so we had a pre-dinner drink in the bar, which is fabulous and then went for a lovely meal in the Bistro, it is a small and intimate restaurant and quite modern and food is served on hot rocks, which you cook yourself to your own taste. Nice concept and food was really lovely BUT find that it gets pretty smoky when it is very busy. This is not a unique concept to us and it was a very nice change. Service was attentive and good and wine selection is great. Little pub at the Langport Arms is friendly and wonderful for pre or post drinks too.

Simply the best Fish and Chip shop around. You can get most of the menu as a gluten free option too. The staff are fantastic too. Thank you everyone for your wonderful service 😍

The chip shop has been closed for a while due to staff going on holiday. Last night we very much enjoyed our chips, chicken and curry sauce.
