After 25 mins of I get a lady come up to us and say u want anything we place our order and 10 mins later the same woman come up to us and told us they had ran out of baguettes so now 35 mins in we still hungry but left we won't be back Can't say what the food was like as we never had any

I was told by a friend that the food was really good. It wasn't. I ordered squid and my friends ordered the chicken We were advised that the chicken would take about 30 minutes. That was OK however I didn't expect that they would spend 30 minutes cooking my squid. What came was just tasteless rubber in a slop. I could eat it so it was taken away. Nobody bothered to ask why I hadn't eaten it. The service is really shoddy. It really didn't surprise me that were the only people having lunch. I was really surprised that they charged me full price for my squid. After this I will take recommendations with a pinch of salt

Amazing hospitality, great staff and the food is a five star rating for me, and they are all very responsible in a pandemic situation putting up the right precautions and making sure people check in when they visit. Mr Saraiva is a fantastic man and always polite.

It's a simple and friendly restaurant, where you can find traditional Portuguese dishes, alcoholic beverages, refreshments and more.

Fantastic food! The man who waited on us was an excellent resource for recommendations on food and wine and was so kind. We had a really lovely meal at Saraiva's and will definitely go back if we're in the area again. We had two different versions of the roasted chicken and both were absolutely delicious.

Really welcoming, well signposting given the current circumstances. The large English breakfast was per description!!! and with very little grease too👍. Large coffee to accompany all together a very reasonable £7.45. Menu is quite extensive to include some Portuguese cuisine aswell, will be revisiting again next time I'm down.

Nós ficamos sentados a espera da comida por três horas, e mesmo assim veio um prato de cada vez e não todos juntos e consequente cada um de nós comeu a seu tempo fomos ao restaurante pra desfrutamos de uma refeição em família e não foi o que aconteceu. Uma vergonha...

Had chance meeting with a friend who invited me to have a coffee with them, I have often wanted to visit Saraiva's in the past, and finally the opportunity arose, and I am so glad too. Lovely Restaurant lovely people and had a lovely time. Will be going again.

Lots going on here with good drinks, food and atmosphere. Lots of 'coming and going' of contented customers. Lively but not too noisy. Well worth a visit.

Great little cafe with an extensive no frills menu, offering traditional Portuguese bites as well as jacket potatoes, toasties & all the usual suspects etc... The bar has a selection of Portuguese drinks (alcoholic and non) & the coffee is good. There’s a mini market & counter selling dried food & Portuguese cheese, & the pastel de nata are yummy. Such friendly staff too.

New, much larger, premises now open.... came in today for a late lunch of two rissoles, one fish, one piglet + Natas + latte.... very nice corner premises with double aspect bay window on to High Street.... well worth a visit!

Did a double-take as we walked past. The smell immediately transported me to Iberia; what here in Somerset? But yes, Saraiva's is a little Portuguese haven - a cafe/restaurant, take-away and even a little shop selling Portuguese basics. We only had a takeaway as we had our dog with us; but it was tasty if rather slow in coming. Which only gave me more time to soak up the atmosphere. Very friendly and full of character - and as I waited it seemed as if half the population of Chard dropped by and speak Portuguese!Most of the signs were in Portuguese too, but it seemed as if it was closing on Sunday 21st April and relocating up the street to the 'old labour exchange'! With no specified re-opening date. I hope that they don't lose what they've got...

Popped in to try. Very friendly. A little old fashioned decor but felt homely. Ordered the pork and bean stew as it was ready, rather than wait for something to be cooked. Absolutely delicious, very filling. Pork, beans, black pudding,chorizo. So flavoursome. Definitely will go again.

Chard. Probably the best town in the Great British Isles. Its got a Lidl, Dominos, Supersize Tesco's and not just one, but two fine Portuguese establishments! Along with many other fine eateries and other delights. What's not to love? At the top of this highly pretigious and competitive market is Saraiva's, one of the aforementioned Portuguese places. To start, the atmosphere is other worldly. The sort of world where the Superboks flow freely. The best cheese toasties in the world are served (with a wholesome platter of tasty fries), and the good times and vibes are aplenty. With staggeringly cheap prices as the 🍒 on the 🍰. If you haven't been to this gem of the South West I command you to visit ASAP! My only hope in life is to have visited enough times to feel like I have truly made the most of this oasis.

We were unfortunate that on the day of our visit they had no Portuguese dish of the day. The cafe bar has a real Portuguese feel to it and we were able to have the last pastel de nata, which was very good, but we would have liked to sample the home cooking. Maybe on a different day.

Found this place by accident when stopping off in Chard. Apparently there's a big Portuguese community hereabouts, and this is an authentic Portuguese bar/cafe/restaurant serving simple but gorgeous Portuguese food. They also serve English stuff but why bother when you can have the real deal? Having spent some time living in Portugal this was like stepping back into Lisbon - even to watching Man U v Liverpool on the big screen, related through Portuguese TV! Very friendly, great food, reasonable prices. Expect to stay awhile though, as in typical Portuguese style they like to dwell over their meal. Luvly jubbly!

The saviour of casual eating in Somerset/Wiltshire and Devon! Not to be missed. Just like being in a good cafe in Portugal with real Portuguese stews and pork steaks and chips and salad type meals.

This establishment will provided amazing traditional Portuguese food, beer and desserts, most of the individuals that go there are from Portuguese origin so you will feel like you are in a different country, I love personally because it reminds me of home but I took my girlfriend there and she loved it due to the fact that the food and drinks were superb! Great job done by Saravais, the restaurant is the place to go!!

Friend took me for breakfast and it was beautifully and courteously served. Whilst it may not be the most gourmet breakfast, it is good quality (esp the bacon, coffee) and must be the best value in the UK! Also on offer: real Pasteis de nata better than GB bake-off; what's not to like!?

I went in here for a coffee and sat in the front section. All the adverts/posters on the wall were in a foreign language and at the back of the coffee shop, it was full of old men. Not my scene at all. Would steer clear of it.

Muy relajado lugar para relajarse y pasar el rato, no había presión para dejar, comida muy sabrosa y la gamberros borrachos fría de hielo. La camarera era muy acogedor y el ambiente era relajado, incluso tienen botellas de vidrio rugoso ... ya sabéis ... había que estar allí! No es un restaurante que es particularmente vestirte para ... bueno, no durante el día, pero da la sensación de uno de los típicos restaurantes locales portugués ... creo que para mí fue el increíblemente amable ambiente ... y lo que parecía que los demás portugués folk comiendo allí ... siempre creo que eso es un signo de buena comida! Me encantó, y sin duda volveremos.

Le déjeuner y était correct sans rien de fameux, le signal Internet était difficile à capter, le service était approximatif pour ne pas dire nonchalant. Décoration quelconque , aucun charme, bref pas le genre d'endroit qui incite à s'y attarder.

Recientemente se tomó el tiempo para visitar B. al-Shalhoob en Chard y nos pareció un lugar fantástico para comer, el personal era excelente y muy amable. La comida estaba caliente y una porción muy generosa, prueba el budín portugués delicioso. La limpieza era genial. Excelente relación calidad-precio, sin embargo los inodoros le vendría bien una puesta al día, está limpia pero cutre.

Este original bar restaurante portugués de café (algo inusual en Somerset pero uno de tres aparentemente en Chard) es un excelente lugar para un buen café barato de calidad o una comida. Ofrecen un plato barato del día y tienen un menú de comidas muchos basado en pescado. Café y Pasteis de nata (crema pastelera tarta de portugués) siempre es un lujo. El personal era infaliblemente cortés y servicial y por encima de todo. Muy recomendable.

This is a Portuguese cafe, they do cooked to order breakfasts, great coffee and a friendly smile.It is the only place we will go for breakfast in Chard.Always great and tasty food,brilliant value for money.Order the large full English, you will not be disappointed.

If you not a racist, of which Chard mostly is, this is a great place to get breakfast. I shouldnt say because I dont wont lots of people filling it up when im hungry! It is really cheap, big and good quality. It does take a very long time to receive food sometimes but the lovely coffee is so hot you can sit back and relax. With lots of Portuguese in there it does feel a little like being on holiday but there are many English in there too. Dont be scared!

This restaurant gave a friendly, good service. The food is good. The surroundings are clean, and the prices are very reasonable.

As a professional food rating critic i had the pleasure to be at the most popular Portuguese restaurants and all i can say is , the Saraiva's food is so distant from the Portuguese cuisine, the real flavour isn't there. The staff is most of the times slow and not polite as they should be. Despite my bad critic , compared with the other Portuguese cafe in chard is 5 stars.

I feel that Chard has a real jewel with Saraiva's Restaurante and we are most fortunate. I go in there often for a latte coffee and sometimes a snack too. I love this place as it exudes continental charm and atmosphere and is a little bit of `holiday' in the midst of our busy and bustling town. It is lovely to have a place where there is a real feeling of welcome and acceptance. I do not know what they do to make my large latte coffee taste so wonderful but it almost makes me feel that I am being enveloped with the sheer comfort derived from it. I keep coming back for more especially as the people who work there and go there are so friendly. I have had some snacks at this Restaurante and they have been most enjoyable and all in all very reasonably priced. Can't wait to go there again!

A gem. Genuine chicken Piri Piri served absolutely traditionally. Started with beer, bread and olives, then the chicken with salad, fries, rice. Finished off with an amazing strong smooth espresso. Oh and a very generous Aguardiente. The atmosphere was great, no one was speaking English and it was a hot evening.....I wasn't in Chard! Bill? 18 quid!,,

After being stuck in traffic for over 2 hrs I walked down the main st and by luck found myself in this lovely cafe. It did feel like I'd walked into a place where everyone knew each other, but even the other customers wished me a good morning. I ordered a cappacino. There was so much choice and the price just amazed me. Where else would you pay just. £1.20 for a piping hot drink, that tasted so good. I've paid 3 times that for luke warm liquid hidden under half a cup of froth! I also ordered a small breakfast. The best bacon ever served with sausage, tomato, egg, mushroom and toast. Well if that's small........The whole place was so clean ( including the toilets)The staff were friendly and I believe the Owner/boss also said Hello as he walked through.If I was ever in Chard again I'd go back at any time of day just to see what else was offered. The bill was just £4, I still can't believe it now.
