This has to be the best steaks that we've had. We ordered the ostrich steak (which was really good, slightly sweet and so tasty) the filet steak was particularly impressive. Perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth. This is definitely a hidden gem.

Horrible experience We totally understand that popular establishments get busy but please train your staff to be honest and upfront about it and apologise in advance if you think there will be a wait. Saying the word "sorry" is free and goes a long way to great customer service. We've had lunch here previously & although a bit pricey, the food is always delicious and we've had a good experience. Unfortunately this wasn't the case this time. We'd pre booked for 1pm for a table for 2. Once seated we didn't see anyone again until 1.25pm when our order for both food & drinks was taken. No apology for the wait. We could see they were busy so politely asked if there was much of a wait for food as we'd got tickets for an event. We were told it would be 20 mins, again no apology. Drinks arrived with a very friendly different waitress. When there was no sign of food at 2.05pm we had to ask again when it would arrive. Still no apology for the wait. By now we were really anxious as there wasn't going to be time to eat our food, let alone enjoy it, plus our confirmation email stated we only had the table until 2.24pm. Our waitress went away to find out but didn't come back. We saw her laughing & joking with colleagues so it wasn't the case that she was too busy to let us know. I had to then ask yet again where our food was. She advised it was coming out, again no apology. At 2.20pm we couldn't wait any longer & so my husband went to pay for the drinks and advise that we couldn't wait any longer. At this point my husband received an apology that we hadn't had a good experience, but it wasn't at all friendly or sincere. While he was paying our food finally turned up but it was too late and we had to leave. To add insult to injury on leaving the restaurant we were then followed out by a man with a tray (so assumed he was staff) who very loudly confronted us about what had happened. We couldn't believe that on top of having waited for 1 hour & 20 minutes for our food & not receiving it until we paid for our drinks that we were then treated in such an awful manner. Very upsetting. We've always considered it a bit of a treat to go to The Trough, but it was more like a really horrible ordeal on this occasion. Very disappointed. Please don't become one of those restaurants who feel they don't need to treat customers decently because you know you'll always get the custom anyway because of the lovely location.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Food was ok although expensive in comparison to other eating houses which offer more superior quality. We phone booked for 4people (paying £40deposit)…unfortunately our guests were unable to attend due to ill health. We were charged £10 for these guests not being there. We were not advised of this charge when booking on phone or on arrival. Felt this was little underhand & we left feeling disappointed at this. Not sure we will return.

I took my daughter for lunch here recently and was so disappointed with how The Trogh has deteriorated. Prices have increased considerably which in the current market I have no problem with but the portion sizes has dramatically shrunk too! My daughter and I both opted for the ceaser salad which was served with a very undercooked inedible egg, just a tiny sprinkle of finely chopped chicken and limp undercooked bacon. Very few salad leaves which for the price was poor. I asked to speak to the manager or shift leader as my meal was delivered 20 mins before my daughter and grandsons came out. I pointed this out to the shift leader who was nothing less than rude and hostile. She offered no apologies or solutions so eventually I suggested that she may like to refund my daughter’s meal. There were no checks backs on the table when the order was finally complete which is and should be standard. I can forgive poor food as we all have bad days but can’t forgive poor front of house customer service. Hasten to say we won’t be returning unfortunately. On a positive note the burger and fries was thoroughly enjoyed by my grandson.

Glorious day . Looking forward to a thank you lunch with friends We sat enjoying far reaching beautiful rural views and hoping to select from The lunch menu options currently on website (that we had had a peak at from home,) and firstly the reason we had chosen this restaurant to meet with friends and secondly almost decided what we might order to eat. Sadly although 1 pm the lunch menu wasn't available !! and we had to make a choice from a limited very uninspiring Brunch menu. The Chicken Caesar salads x 2 were bland, small almost a starter portion for £16 with very little lettuce and dressing . The two burgers were served on a plank with no accompanying dressed leaves Chips were extra £8 for Dirty fries which were either limp or burned on the surface or £6 for skinny fries. Overpriced for bland food. The location and views, a cold Elderflower presse on a hot day - plus of course the company are the only memorable things about our visit. Happy to return and have a tea or coffee but won't be wasting money on food there again sadly.

The food is good, but not cheap. Burgers come without fries, which cost an extra £4. It can get very busy, and this means a long wait between ordering and receiving your meal. We waited over 40 minutes. The lunchtime selection is not extensive, less than in many pubs. The internal acoustics mean that the main restaurant is very noisy, so forget about having a quiet romantic lunch. Finally, the car park surface is truly dreadful, and if it is wet you will tread pale brown mud on to your car carpets, and this will dry to a cream coloured powder which is not easy to remove.

The Trough is a beautiful looking restaurant with unmatched views all around! Unfortunately the food didn’t match up to the reputation for my family and I. We all ordered the aged beef with Sunday trimmings. The veg was cooked lovely but the meat came out extremely raw, even though we weren’t asked how we wanted it cooked, and one member of my family’s food was so under cooked the staff even took it off the bill (after previously saying it couldn’t be done. Maybe they noticed how under cooked it really was?). Dessert on the other hand was amazing and definitely worth mentioning. I would 100% recommended trying them as they all looked great and tasted even better. As for service, we weren’t offered any water for the table, even though everyone else had a bottle on the tables around us. When we were brought dessert, which as I mentioned was great, we weren’t given any spoons to eat it with. That being said all the staff were friendly and welcoming and were working hard. Overall I just expected more. Everything from the restaurant’s reputation, to how it looked just didn’t match up to the food we had. I’ve had better for less, and I think that’s a real shame.

Beautiful restaurant with an idyllic view and tranquil atmosphere. Very different from what you normally find around Yeovil. The decor is warm and elegant, seats comfy and the whole setting is airy and light. Huge windows overlook an open field, and seating outside is possible too. The staff was attentive and thoughtful, they also asked how I liked my fried eggs, which is unfortunately so rare in the area. The food was expertly prepared and presented, the hollandaise sauce the best I tried in a long time. Eggs just as we asked. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at the Trough and highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for great quality, fantastic ambiance and something more special than what you'd normally find around Yeovil. A birthday gave us an opportunity to look for a nice place for brunch. We were recommended The Trough by friends in Yeovil. We chose the Smashed Avocado and the minute steak brunch. The avocado breakfast was delicious and I was really full when eating it. The steak was a bit chewy and fatty and my husband did not particularly enjoy his meal. He ate everything though but I was glad I made my choice and not have the steak which had been my first choice meal. We stayed after the food and had tea. It's a great place to sit and chat and it's beautifully designed and decorated. I will go back again but will stick to veggie food.

Second visit here and unfortunately this time was somewhat disappointed. I had the roast beef and at £22 per portion although nicely cooked the meat was cut very thin and almost transparent served covered by a very large Yorkshire pudding. The drinks are expensive I had the Laycooks cider and although flavoursome was £6.50 for a 500ml bottle. Cheapest wine I could see was £23 per bottle. This venue is expensive and you will be looking at around £40 per head with drinks. Shame as the venue has rolling countryside off a large car park. I am by no means running this venue down just advising you to take a full wallet to dine there.

Contracted some work, the owner refused to pay the full bill even though the work was done properly, just because the he had double booked himself and had another company coming the following day. I said the full bill should be paid. He said no, and took £28 off of my bill and underpaid me. He said and I quote “you either take this or I’m going to go bezerk in a minute”. He said it’s not my fault, nor is it his. It was the ‘employee who called me to do the works fault’. Unfortunately, this is not my problem, it’s his. If they had the work completed by us, the full bill should have been settled. First company I’ve ever done work for that’s refused to pay the sum of the bill in my 2 years of running the company. Very poor, I’m sure the food is probably good though. Probably.

There's extra outside seating and even a coffee lounge away from the main restaurant where you can relax and digest a glorious meal while others can delight in their wares!! UPDATE: 01/06/2023 Still enjoy coming here. Service was a little slower than usual but it's a lovely place and so, time passes easily. Food is always great; I had the Trough Burger and whilst it was really tasty and thoroughly enjoyable, i found the patty to be quite dense in texture and so, a little difficult to chew. My wife had the Tartiflette and again, superb meal but just needed to be that little bit warmer (not enough to comment to the staff because she was hungry enough to just get on and eat). Anyway, overall, lovely food, lovely surroundings, especially so when the weather is warm and you can enjoy the views. Always a pleasant surprise when we visit the Trough. The amount of effort these guys put into everything they do, is really impressive. This occasion was for their first offering of a pumpkin picking experience and it was so well organised. Well laid out across the field, plenty of size choices, straw over the foot ways (to prevent a mud bath) and a well put-together marquee with picnic tables, so we could sit and drink a lovely hot coffee. The hotdogs were great and burgers were nothing short of gourmet restaurant taste. Amazing. Looking forward to many more visits to the restaurant with the family. Great stuff guys.

In my opinion expensive for what you get burger £14.50p without chips !!! 11 of us went to celebrate a birthday brought a cake in to celebrate told there is a cover charge for cutting the cake £2.50 per slice!!!! Add that up between eleven of us! Dissatisfied with that considering the final bill for all of us must have been near £700 ! Wanted to charge us to cut a cake ! On top ! Needless to say the trough is firmly off our to go there again list !😡😡😡😡💯💯

Went back to The trough as we were impressed with the food. This visit we felt the menu has little choice. I would still use it as the location is lovely and the venue is clean with friendly staff but with the limited menu, it's not a choice I would make for a meal again. They have a cafe with a selection of cakes.

Nice looking hotel with well maintained grounds. Rooms were spacious, clean and nicely designed. Sadly everything we liked about the hotel was ruined by what I can put down to poor management and communication. We were not pre-warned, communicated to or given a heads-up that there was a wedding party during our stay and we could have made other arrangements. As a result, loud music all the way until midnight. The wedding crew must have been metal fans as track after track was topped off with "Down with the Sickness" blaring out at 11:45pm which I thought was quite funny. Breakfast was a little under par in terms of quality. Surprisingly there were nice little jam jars and butter on the table but we were told they did not have any toast.

Lovely welcome, excellent service and a really good Sunday lunch - the beef/pork/chicken combo was superb as was the panacotta. A particular mention for the service which was really good.

We were in Somerton for the weekend and purely by chance ended up at The White Hart for dinner. We hadn't booked, but Rob very kindly managed to find a way to rearrange the bookings to provide a table for the two of us - and we were so glad that he did. The wine was good quality, we ordered two main meals from the regular menu - flat iron steak and cider battered haddock. The staff were polite and friendly. We saw workers throughout the evening very clearly dealing with a very busy restaurant - but everyone we saw was working with pace and purpose, focused on service delivery and working well together. Everyone worked quickly but with a calm energy. Even when relaying tables this was with attention to detail and clear care about customer experience - we saw tables being balanced so as not to wobble for the diners, candles and glasses laid out to be aesthetically pleasing, table legs get wiped to be clean for the next diner - just small things that were done as second nature that show the approach to standards. Both dishes came out in good time - especially considering that the restaurant was (from what we could see) completely full. The food was cooked beautifully; the steak was delicious, seasoned well and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The batter on the haddock was lovely and crisp, but achieved without overcooking the fish, which was still perfectly tender. Both plates were appealing and presentation well thought out. Attention to detail was a theme that carried through into the food where garnish was built into the dish properly rather than an after thought - For example the lemon served with the fish could have been served simply cut and been perfectly acceptable, but effort was taken to lightly grill the lemon for deeper flavour and more appealing appearance. We couldn't have managed a dessert, but the options were very enticing. We ended our evening finishing our glasses of wine in front of the fireplace before leaving. We already plan to return, despite the 3.5 hour journey from home.

If you want to have the best portuguese food experience, I recommend you go to A Lusitana Restaurant 😋. Everything is really tasty, and all the staff are very friendly. Definitely go back.
