Food itself was really nice however the chef seems to love putting lots of salad leaves on everything . When I removed half of a jungle from my burger it was lovely . Heard other people say the same thing like " where is my pasta is it under the mountain of leaves" I ordered dessert but never arrived and there were no staff around to ask where it was or to even order another drink . So by the time I went to the bar I just could be bothered to wait . Turns out they forgot to ask the kitchen for my desert. In the end I just paid at the bar . The rooms are quiet dated but separate from the pub and there clean with minimal noise . I would stay here again and if I had enough time on my hands try the food here again

We booked a large family get together, we always meet here in the summer, it is positioned between us all so a good meeting place. First time we booked dinner here. All meals & drinks were served and all as ordered. Lovely waitress served us and was so helpful. We really enjoyed the afternoon and even played in the play area afterwards. We will all definitely be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meals here last night, the service was friendly and helpful, the food was delicious with large portions, pudding was also as delicious. We will definitely be returning.

Amazing food, superb service...super clean pub, with clean rest rooms.. The food was very well presented and delicious... Table of 5 and no one had left overs... Too full to try their delicious looking desserts... But 3 at our table had desserts and were very impressed...plenty of room between tables, I had the chicken tower and it was cooked to perfection.... Will be coming back for sure....

had christmas lunch here ,had the nut roast,it must have been plated up an left until needed,potatoes so hard an dry,parsnips hard an some cremated, an sprouts like bullets- so disappointed, when I mentioned it to the waitresses as left my meal ,she just giggled- would never recommend or go back.

Great location just off the A303 if you want to visit Stourhead. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, polite staff and above all a great restaurant menu, well cooked and served. Thank you for a nice overnight.

We had a really good, quickly served (by nice staff) meal at a reasonable price. We live less than a mile away and had avoided the place for 10 years (it used to be terrible) but we've now been converted!

25 of my family booked this lovely pub for our annual Christmas get together on Sunday 17th November, as we chose halfway from all of us to meet up. Always a gamble when you book somewhere you not been before. Well, the Hunters Lodge Inn did not disappoint. It was really busy at 1:45pm, we had a whole section to ourselves, tables laid out, we put crackers on and had a corner for all our Secret Santa gifts. We asked for a rubbish bag so we could clean up afterwards. Jade was truly professional and a credit to the pub, she looked after us all. Service was amazing considering it was so busy. The food (carvery) was so tasty, hot, lots of it and served to you by a really lovely man. Everyone that worked here showed they really enjoy it. Car parking was fab and a lovely park for the kids. Thank you so much from us all and we look forward to seeing you all in 2025. Our new find 😃

This was our second visit and again I can't fault the staff and room we stayed in. We had the carvery, the food was lovely and the portions were generous!

Stayed here for 2 nights last week with my wife for a quick get away on a Bed and breakfast basis. We were so glad we chose this little gem! From check in to check out the staff (this establishment's greatest asset) were excellent. Everyone was cheery, helpful, polite and welcoming. The room (No 3 ) was spacious, clean, bright and had all we needed for the 2 days, a great big comfy bed, tv and remote that worked, plenty of electrical sockets for phone chargers and laptop, free mineral water, free toiletries, nice clean fluffy towels, a great shower and for my wife..... a hairdryer! Breakfast was superb, cooked fresh to order both mornings with the usual toast, cereal, fresh fruit, tea, coffee and juices also. We had dinner here both nights too and I had the Hunters Chicken Tower both evenings and it is delicious, believe me. I had BBQ wings to start one night and whitebait the next, both delicious and my wife had a succulent sirloin steak one evening and salmon fillet the next, both of which were eaten with the same almost silent enjoyment I had eaten mine with! We had intended to stay just one night as it was a gift from our son and his partner but it was such a lovely place with great staff and food that we were lucky enough to book and be able to keep our room for a second night! If you are a horse racing fan, Wincanton races is just down the road and if you are a motor car fan there is the Haynes motor car museum 7 miles away. (A little expensive at almost £23 each but we thoroughly enjoyed it). This place is so good that on our second and final morning there were a number of people enjoying breakfast who were local workers and had called in for some well needed 'fuel'for the day ahead! Would I stay here again? Unreservedly....yes. (Although I would definitely make a reservation as I wouldn't want to be disappointed!). Thank you all at Hunter's Lodge Inn. Came here on an impromptu drive past. They were packed! But managed to fit us in. Very clear communication over table return time but we didn't feel rushed at all. Staff were really attentive, food was delicious and service was fabulous. Highly recommend

The room was clean, really good but in our room I think room 5, the heating was not working or quite difficult to manipulate. Anyway, it was a really good place to stay, comfortable bed, awesome restaurant - we had dinner and a complementary breakfast there, and it was very well-priced. We were charged initially for the food we didn't purchase, but it was easily rectified and refunded. Good service.

We went in a party of 8. Lovely food but quite slow service. We has to ask for someone to come and take our drinks order and then had to find someone to find out where the drinks were! No one asked if there were any allergies which there was. Having said this, plenty of parking and lovely food.

On my way to Devon and decided to split the journey in two. Booked a Sunday night here based on reviews and location. Also booked a Sunday carvery dinner. Arrived around 5:30ish. The restaurant was absolutely packed (a good sign). Checked in and decided to have a shower before dinner. What a lovely room. Spacious, quiet with a large shower cubicle. Glad I booked for dinner as when I went in the restaurant was still full and I could hear apologies being given to people who had not booked. It is not a free for all carvery but you waited until you were called to get your dinner. I had roast turkey and roast pork with sausage, stuffing ball, peas, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and gravy. It all tasted delightful and I can see why this place is so popular and at £13.95 very reasonably priced. The bed was very comfortable for me (I know some people like a soft mattress or a hard mattress but I am not that fussed). Slept well. Breakfast the following morning set me up for the day. 2 x sausages, 2 x bacon, 2 x fried eggs, fried bread, beans, toast, coffee and orange juice (included in the stay). A nice relaxing morning to set me up for the remainder of my journey. I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. There is a large garden area out the back with plenty of seating (under cover) also a large play area for children with the added bonus of pygmy goats! I have done this journey quite a few times in the past but this was the first time with a stop off. I will hopefully be coming this way again and will definitely be stopping off here! The room charge was £75 (including breakfast) I know you could find cheaper options but I found this to be reasonable and as I said a great location being just off the A303.

Me and my partner stayed for 3 nights 4 days and it was lovely, the room clean and tidy and the breakfast was great. We had dinner there all 3 night which was lovely and great value for money . The staff were so polite and also very helpful

I was disgusted to only be given HALF a slice of fried bread with my FULL English breakfast. Boiled mushrooms. Staff were nice enough though. edit: the owner thinks it's my fault that their staff are so badly trained that they can't answer a simple question. I'll remove one star. I shouldn't have to ask for the other half of my fried bread either! What exactly is it you're running there?

Had two nights here as visiting longleat. The room was large with all the usual amenities. Had a meal both nights. Friday was unlimited pie night and a carvery and Saturday was a carvery. Both were delicious and the breakfast was very good too. The staff were friendly and attentive so we will be returning if back in the area.

I was looking for a Breakfast stop and found this attractive establishment. I was greeted warmly by Mandy who found me a table and took my order. A very filling and plentiful plate arrived under the guise of a Full English, with Bacon, Eggs, Mushrooms, Fried Bread and Beans and as much coffee as required. Really enjoyed the food and the happy staff and pleasant environment started off my day on the right foot. Well done to all concerned for a super experience.

The staff were exceptional, the food was delicious and the room was clean and wonderful. We had Caesar salads for dinner that were huge and delicious. The buffet breakfast was more than expected. Overall, highly recommend them.

Needed an overnight stay before going to Wincanton. Excellent room. Dinner and breakfast exceptional. Would recommend staying here if in this area. Staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Great place, perfect for kids stop off, and good food

Took over an hour for the food to come to the table. They just didn't get that 2 of the party only wanted a starter! All in all symbolic!! Probably will never go there again.

Despite being advertised as dog friendly, it seems dogs are not allowed indoors or indeed most of the outdoor areas too. A very small outside terrace is the only area dogs are allowed. So i would clarify this as dogs just about tolerated and not friendly.

Beautiful country pub/ restaurant and apparent boarding. 4 of us attended for an evening meal - absolutely superb - great food, well presented and great portion sizes. Cannot fault in any way. 👍

Great pub and rooms. The food was amazing and at great prices too and there was a wide range of drink options at the bar. For children there is a large play area with seating all around for adults to chill and keep an eye on them. Carvery is definitely worth a try, there is a good selection of meats and veg available.

This was our first visit to the Hunters Lodge and we were not disappointed the staff were most welcoming and the Sunday Lunch was excellent a special mention must go to Jade who was excellent and always smiling

We are staying here overnight on our journey. The location is great. A lovely pub. The room are spotless and spacious. With super comfortable bed. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We had dinner here and the food was presented beautifully and was absolutely delicious. I can’t wait for breakfast now! If it is anything like dinner it will be the best I’ve had.

Piping hot breakfast buffet with a large range of food to choose from. Juices, teas, coffees etc as well. Friendly staff. Thoroughly recommended.

A great gem of a place. Just off the A303 at Wincanton. Staff welcoming and very helpful. Good for a short drink stop or a few nights stay. Nice big car park and lots of outdoor space. Room very clean and spacious. Great breakfast and evening meals. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Why wouldn’t I write a review, I had the most pleasant visit with my wife and friends. Everything that could go right did. Pleasant company, decent weather, And the staff in this family run inn all possibly the most polite I have experienced. Well worth a visit The food - wonderful Dining area - wonderful Staff well- wow the owners should be really proud of the way all family and staff behaved If I could lift this inn and take it home near me I would and it would be an award winner. Five star Thank you for our wonderful experience.

Unfortunately, although lots of reviews are good, our experience here wasn't so. We didn't even get to even ordering our food before we left. We arrived early with the kids and had a drink while the kids played. They had lots of fun and I have ro say the play area is good with ample seating around. Our table was booked for 6 so we went in to be seated. The staff at the main/corner bar guided us through to the other side to ask about seating. When there the 3 staff were to busy laughing over the attempted Guinness pour to acknowledge us (these were the same staff working on the corner bar since we basicly just walked the other side of a wall that the bar went through). We were soon showed to our table and seated. After a bit of waiting with no service we asked at the "seating" bar and were told someone would be with us soon. No sooner had we asked a party of about 15-20 turned up and all attention went to them as they didn't have enough tables and chairs set up. Eventually, after about 20-30min of no one taking any kind of order, offering drink etc we decided to leave as they still seemed more interested in the large party than us. Maybe one day we'll try again but, they seemed to struggle with the limited amount of customers they had (inside, other than the large party that arrived, there didnt appear to be anyone waiting to place an order), if we do who knows maybe it'll be worth the 5* they usually get and I'll change my mind. Till then it's a no from me.

Brilliant Sunday lunch. Good car park. Great play area. Really nice carvery. Good kids menu with an activity pack - nice touch. Would visit again on a different day to try the other non Sunday menu because that looks good too.

our starters arrived within 6 minutes - perfect and delicious Halloumi fries we then didn't have to wait very long at all for our main course, we all had chicken burgers, was so filling, thank you !

Stopped for breakfast. Breakfast was ok. Although very small in quantities. They lack choice of bread,toast. You got what it came with fried bread!!!

Wonderful hotel restaurant and pub combined. Little something for everyone. Great selection of drinks, wonderful food and very welcoming friendly staff. Well worth a stop for a drink, meal or spend the night. Recommended

My partner and I have been to the Hunters Lodge mainly for their carvery. It's a great go-to place to have a family meal for various occasions. The carvery is not just open for Sunday lunches, but also available for Friday onwards as an evening option. The vegetarian option has been regarded as very tasty too. There is a good choice of meats, along with a good option of roast vegetables and a very nice cauliflower cheese. The gravy is a delight too. There is a good selection of starters and desserts as well, if you have the space! The staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive. The place is popular, so the large car park does get filled quickly. It's not far from the main town of Gillingham, so it's not far to travel for locals who want to dine more in a quieter location.

Fantastic visit, clean spacious comfy room and bed with powerful shower too. Plenty of complementary tea, coffee, uht milk cartons plus nice touches of biscuits and bottled water in room. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Plenty of free parking spaces too. Was so peaceful, really enjoyed my stay and felt safe travelling alone. Highly recommend if you would like a peaceful break away in a gorgeous countryside setting. Very close to A303 but couldn't hear any traffic. The pub also provides a lovely breakfast (was included) and menus for lunch and dinner should you wish to eat there at additional cost. Friendly bar area too. Basically everything you need under one roof. Will definitely visit again.

Stayed for 1 night and had an evening meal here. Good tasty portions and a huge room but the cleanliness of the bathroom let it down

I can't knock the service 5/5! However the vegan options are sparse and very disappointing. I had the 'BBQ lentil burger', the patty was incredibly dry and no flavour. Vegan coleslaw is no longer available. They had to use a gluten free bun (again very dry) as they only stock brioche buns. The burger had no sauces inside. It's possibly one of the worst burgers I've had. On a positive note, the fries were fantastic! And the other members of my party enjoyed their meals.

Loved it here. Rooms were good and comfortable and food was really good with very friendly staff to look after us. Only gripe was the wi-fi as it was practically non-existent but this is obviously due to the location of the hotel. Other than that our stay was very enjoyable.

We stayed just for a night, last night and were so impressed by the service. The rooms were clean, warm and spacious, the breakfast was incredible and the staff were so kind! Brilliant customer service, I’d definitely recommend!

We went in for our works Christmas Dinner and the food was hot and served in a quick manner so people were not waiting long to start. Only one issue when taking drink orders from table we had to ask a few time for one of the drinks to be made. Other that that it was a great night with very friendly and helpful staff 👌

Had a booking for 6 people on Friday 8th Dec on arrival was told that the booking was not available due to parties having the same surname, so we decided to leave and go somewhere else where we where made most welcome, and the food was very good,

Good pub good service. Felt left wanting had spicy bean burger. Plate looked empty compared to others at my table. Maybe a salid could of been incorporated with the bean burger. But good all-rounder.

Were taken here for a Sunday Carvery, quite busy and had to wait about 5 minutes for our table. The food was outstanding, probably the best carvery I have had. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Didn't stay. Went for a meal. Had the best liver, bacon and onions ever. They also stock a zero alcohol IPA on draught, who's name escapes me but was very nice.

Absolutely lovely in here, staff was lovely, and food was just perfect, they do not go by halves, and pricing is right in my budget, I will definitely be back, and won me over any other breakfast.

Great choice of food, lovely room but no internet ( on room) and fine location. Service excellent and a most enjoyable evening with no possibility of report filing once I left the communal areas (a brief respite.... thank you)
