Why are bots giving reviews about "father's wake "

I booked the hotel to hold my father’s wake as it was close to the Yeovil Crematorium. The staff were incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. There was a member of my group who was a coeliac and a vegetarian and they personally rang her to check her food requirements and then at the reception her food came on a cake tier beautifully presented. The food was good value and there was so much. It was all of a very good standard particularly the lemon cake which had been baked by a staff member and was delicious- I had four slices it was so good. After having to say goodbye to my father, coming to this hotel and being made to feel so special and welcomed ( including personalised directions to park). I thoroughly recommend this hotel for any function or to stay.

An excellent wake for my father in law, fantastic home made food , Meg the host was lovely, superb attention to detail. I would highly recommend.

We held our relatives wake here on 11th Oct. The food was outstanding the host was lovely and the attention to detail was excellent. I would recommend whole heartedly.

We did not stay here however, we had a wake for my Dad at this location. Meg was amazing. Good was excellent and was a lovely venue to have the wake. Lovely seating areas as well. Meg went above and deyond to ensure everything was perfect for the event. Thank you

If your desperate displaces okay but if you want a good night in a bed forget it the bed is broken the rooms smell musty I can go on but I'm not going to your choice take

Rooms are basically a bed sit. Ensuite is very damp (no mold). Restaurant is non existent. Paid for breakfast which is non existent. Bar is basically non existent, draft is not available only bottles. Tbh only positive was the location and the bed was comfortable. TV very rarely worked and the shower is a death trap, very nearly boiled me.

We met with Meg last December to discuss the details of our dear late husband and father's wake. She could not have been any more helpful. The food was served on time tasty and hot and replenished when needed. Meg was happy to help with our requests and the wake went very smoothly. The room was very welcoming (we had full use of the front-of-house bar area) Thank you Meg, I apologise for the late review.

They did not tell me they are not serving food until post-check in, unprofessional place, unprofessional staff, steer clear of this place if you want a good hotel to stay in on business.

Stayed again for business my last review below, this stay was same high standard service, it was excellent, enjoyed the continental breakfast, was happy to find hot chocolate in the room. Fantastic stay many thanks, bed was fantastic, bedding was so clean, brilliant white. Staff friendly and could not do enough to make my stay enjoyable. As recommended by management breakfast was tip top 10/10.

Possibly the least comfortable bed and pillows I've ever used so hardly slept during my stay. Room looked nice. Was very annoyed as had to leave a business meeting at yeovil college as the staff were calling me telling me reception shut at 8pm.

Thanks to Meg and her staff for organising my aunt's wake. Meg was very friendly and efficient and the food and the room were very good.

Stayed in the adjoining air b'n'b arm of the business. Room was good, clean and well presented. It was also good value. The location is a little out of town, but not insurmountable. Pleasant and would return

This is a nice hotel. Currently undergoing sympathetic renovations to the interior and exterior so as not to inconvenience guests. Rooms are a little 'behind the times regarding decor but exceptionally clean with good amenities. For a business that label's itself as a Hotel, I would expect someone on reception 24/7 but sadly this is not the case and you are often left with nowhere to turn if you require any hotel services (such as checking in/out, which can only be carried out at certain times - not added to the website) All in all, we e joyed our stay.

We held a celebration of my mother's life at The Preston Hotel. Meg & her team were wonderful, helpful & caring. The food was delicious & plentiful, served by friendly staff. There was no rush, we were made to feel welcome. Highly recommended

Very professional, Deep went out of his way to make our stay a pleasure. Breakfast was perfect. Would highley recommend the Preston.

Avoid this place. They don’t pick up the phone, don’t email you back. Staff is extremely rude, aggressive, and should be reminded that they work in the hospitality industry, instead of thinking they’re doing you a favour. Management clearly has no clue on how to run a hotel.

I live in London and had to arrange the cremation of my aunt who lived in Dorset. I contacted the Preston Hotel at the suggestion of the undertaker. As I was unable to visit I arranged the whole thing by phone with Meg who kept in contact and was able to change the standard menu to accommodate my suggestions. I was very pleased when arriving at the venue how nicely it had all been set out and how attentive Meg was. After it was over she invited us to take left over food and provided takeaway boxes. In particular the home made chicken and Victoria sandwich and chocolate cakes were hits. Also the home made onion bhajis. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a party or event.

We had a lovely meal, which was reasonably priced after checking in, and breakfast was very good. Would suit families.

The restaurant serves decently priced food. The standard was generally acceptable. However the steak we ordered were overcooked. The friendly staff and lovely Yeovil ale makes up for that.

Brilliant for a simple dinner. Delicious home made burger and very nice fish and chips. Excellent value for money in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

Basic menu, great value, big portions. Never left hungry. Really recommend it. Along side a lovely bar it's a great night out.

We attended as a party of 16 for an evening meal, booked in advance of course we took up the complete restaurant part but other tables available in the bar areas.All meals arrived piping hot, there was a wait time of around 10 mins between 1st served and last which meant the early ones had nearly finished but the quality of the food was good all round, steaks were tender, perhaps lacking in taste a little but cooked as required, the sweets were very good with a choice of about 4 and the mains menu was varied to suit all tastes.Great service by the pleasant young man who was stretched at times to keep it all moving smoothly.Would definitely pay another visit sometime.

El hotel preston estaba muy relajado y amable, nuestra habitación era grande, limpia y bien decorada es fantástica tienen WiFi en todo el hotel. El desayuno era muy bueno que tú mismo ayuda a una gran selección de cereales, tostadas, té, zumo de naranja y café y el personal toma su pedido desayuno caliente que es perfecto! No se apuraron en toda la zona de comedor y zona de bar es muy bien hecho con temática musical muy único hotel preston bien hecho y gracias por una estancia agradable x

Had a nice evening meal before going to the local quiz. We all had pork steak mash peas (carrots (bit over cooked) gravy apple sauce. Very generous portion

Very homely food.Garlic mushrooms and ham and mushroom pasta, both delicious.Amazing value. Will be back soon.

Good atmosphere friendly staff good food

Had green chicken curry (OK) and Chicken Empetada (excellent). Especially the later I would highly recommend. Had it with riice and vegetables and it is tasty and as large as it gets. Price is very reasonable!

We have eaten here on quite a few occasions but haven't wrote a review. We wanted to book somewhere quiet, good value for money and tasty. As there was quite a few of us we asked when we booked if we could be in the other room. We had the room to ourselves which was lovely. Between all of us we ordered a selection of meals, and none of us were disappointed. It was all so tasty and hot. The bar manager Tim is certainly an asset to The Preston Hotel, he is so helpful and friendly. We will be returning again

Good pub grub, good price and good portions. You can't go wrong.Couple that with the welcoming atmosphere created by Abbey and Steve and its an all round good night.I'll be back soon.

Had a couple of days here and the rooms were comfy and the breakfast was good... wifi also very good... friendly staff

We stayed here overnight, we was greeted by a lovely smiling Abbie, she made us feel really welcome and she went through things thoroughly with us. She also served us in the bar in the evening, nothing was too much trouble for her! Thanks for making our stay nice! Breakfast was lovely, and the same applies to the staff who served us very friendly and nice. So thanks for a lovely stay to the staff at Preston hotel.

When you look at the menu, it feels a bit like one of those large chain restaurant where they just heat up pre-prepared bits and assemble them to your meal. However my selection was very nice, the lettuce crisp and fresh, the chili quite nice although very mild, chips crisp and mellow,... on top of it there was a lot of everything and the surround is clean, nice and easy. Good place to get a real mouthful.

Comfortable room. Bathroom could have done with being updated but on the whole nice hotel, friendly staff.

I stayed at the hotel overnight and ate there just for the convenience. The food was lovely and the service was great. I am not fussy but even if I was I know I would have been catered for. The cook was called Ronnie and I wanted to give her a hug.

Me and my mum were walking home from town- she needed a rest as she had undergone surgery 7 days before. We walk past Preston road and went to the Preston hotel to see if it was open for a coffee, as we got to the door we saw 'sorry we're closed ' However a gentleman- I believe possibly the owner. came out and asked if we were all right. We said we just wondered if it was open, he said I'm afraid not- wasn't due to open for 30 minutes, I explained we were walking from town and there's nothing else on the way- He told us to come in as he had to set up downstairs anyway. He made us comfortable and feel welcome and personally made us coffees. To top it off, he told us it's on the house! Such a kind gesture as he didn't know that my mum was in desperate need of the rest!

Recommended to me - simple fare but well cooked and friendly atmos, glad I went and will eat here again....

Every where was fully booked so we went to a nearby Chinese and took a takeaway back to the hotel, the staff did say they would have been happy to provide plates etc but we managed without

Had a good night at the preston hotel in Yeovil. Food was good and reasonably priced. The bar is always a good laugh also.

We had a very pleasant stay five days while we visited friends. We were made very welcome and the food was really nice. We had a nice big room next to the parking. It was also nice to be able to park the car in the hotel carpark. We will certainly stay there again if we come to England again.

Our second visit here and really can't fault it. A compact menu is reasonably priced with something to suit everyone. Food is freshly cooked, well presented and service (with a smile) is excellent. Loved the trivia cards on the tables!

Our welcome on arrival was very good, our table was moved around at our request to accommodate us more comfortably. The waitress took our drinks order immediately and returned with them very quickly. However, once we had ordered our food we waited a very long time, the busy staff had quite clearly forgotten us. The owner asked us if everything was ok and apologised profusely when we explained our problem. He ordered us a free round of drinks and our food was brought out immediately. The food was excellent, obviously home cooked, no frozen veg. The puddings were to die for. As it was Mothers Day we were all given a beautiful decorated small cake in a box, delicious. Definitely return there as it is not that expensive. Fully recommend.

I have now eaten in this restaurant almost weekly over the past three months and must commend the food prepared and served at this excellent hotel. The menus are varied offering a wide selection, the food is well cooked and presented to enhance the experience. The food invites you to eat it.The staff are very efficient and friendly and provide a full knowledge of the content of each meal to help people with any allergies and never make a fuss about any ingredients that must not be used.Try the Chill and rice- brilliant.By the way- there is an excellent bar with a wide range of beers, wines and soft drinks. The breakfasts in the morning are superb with a wide range of cooked options and the accomodation is very comfortable.Finally- it is great value for money. So- do not miss this opportunity to enjoy yourself.

Not a very big menu to choose from but Lovely well cooked food pudding was a bit of a letdown but we wasn't charged due to fact we couldn't eat it may have been a one off but I think they focus more on mains than puddings

Pre booked our party of 14 via the website and turned up to find a lovely setting. Staff v friendly. Excellent food throughout the meal; extra gravy and vegetables were brought out before we'd asked for it. Pudding was "amazing" to quote one friend. Excellent food; excellent service; excellent setting. We will be going back. Thank you for making our Christmas party such a lovely evening.

Awesome night out friendly and fun

The food was vastly over priced and very odd. My friend said his burger was nice, but the portion size was smaller than I'd have expected for the money - and my ribs were truly bizarre! So over cooked they were virtually inedible, and covered in some odd runny gravy stuff with burnt onions on the top - sweet potato chips that were tired and disappointing, and a few leaves of tired lettuce as a salad!

Only stayed for one night but wish we could of stayed longer. It was a great hotel, large bedrooms and bathrooms both of which were spotless. Friendly, helpful staff and in a great location close to the town centre. Would definitely recommend and hopefully will return soon.

When working in the area my team and I stayed at the Preston hotel and having stayed at the Sparkford Inn, another hotel in the area a few weeks before I was somewhat filled with dread. We arrived and were greeted by a smiling barman who cheerily booked us in and took us to our rooms. We had a double and two twins and with my team on the first floor, my daughter and I were shown to the attic room which was something of a climb but clean and spacious when we got there. We settled in and then we mer up for drinks and dinner which was really very good. I asked the barman about some earlier reviews from early 2012 which weren't great and he explained that it was under new management now and being refurbished too. Breakfast was equally delicious and all in all a very good experience. If I was being super picky which I am I would say any negatives were with only one team member you could have to wait a little to be booked in or served and in places the upper are I.e rooms were a little dated but clearly this will be taken care of with the refurbishment programme. But the people here are so lovely that you can overlook these small negatives and just have a great time! Next time I'm in the area it will be my first choice!

We went to The Preston for a Sunday lunch which was great value at £9.95 for 3 superb courses. The staff were very freindly and professional and the surroundings fresh and chic. The young chef is a real talent as the food he prepared was nothing short of superb, a sentiment which we overheard on other tables nearby. We'll definately put this on our list of favourites!
