Wincanton Fish Bar Restaurant in South Somerset

My family and I came down from South Yorkshire and had some top notch fish and chips from here. It was much better than expected. The staff were friendly, food reasonably priced and most of all, the food was fantastic! Will definitely come back when in the area.

We have had a take away several times from here and the chips and fish is always fresh and tasty. You do sometimes have to wait to for the food to be cooked however it is worth the short wait to have fresh fish and chips. The owners are always polite and friendly.

First time i have visited the fish and chip shop.i can say the service was excellent and the food was amazing.had cod and chips and battered sausage.everything was cooked and tasted great.chips were proper chip shop chips and the cod had a light crispy batter.the best fish and chips i have had for a while.would go back again if in the area

I had cod and chips...the cod was the size of my plate. Deliscious. and not too greasy either- it was most welcome as we travelled back from Widecombe to Dartford to stop off here and have our dinner :)

A real English Fish & Chip shop. Always a friendly service and has great value food. A real treat for supper!

Needs more sustainable fish on the menu, makerell would be great. Make yourselves stand out from a basic chippy. ;-)

Just a great place for dinner, good price and great portions. They have a great selection of food which is well good and just simply made.

I've traveled to 43 countries (so far) and I would rank the Wincanton Fish Bar right in the top of the list favorite fish eateries! I cannot for the life of me remember the names of the couple who own this excellent chippy, but they do the work themselves, take pride in what they do and the results are excellent. As I said, I just wish I could eat it right there instead of driving 15 minutes to our rental, but likely that's a good thing, otherwise I might well over-eat - often!

Its not my usual type of restaurant that I review, but have to say, that this Fish and Chip shop is the best in the local area, it does get crazy busy in the evenings, so you do have to wait between 5-10 minutes in the small waiting area, but its definitely worth it.

After reading the reviews we thought. We would try it , living local and after work we decided to call in we weren't dissapointed great place great tea

This is the best chippie I have been to in over 50 years. The owner and his partner are ultra professional and the food is always fresh, well cooked and well wrapped. They always have a smile. I could not rate this place higher.

We are local but usually use a different chippie. We tried the Wincanton Fish Bar and we were not disappointed. Excellent Cod and chips - the fish was particularly good. Large portions, succulent, fresh and beautifully cooked Cod. The batter was a little too greasy. The chips were tasty and plentiful. The staff are extremely pleasant, friendly and welcoming and the prices are reasonable and very competitive with anything else in the locale

My wife and I and our dearest friends stayed in Wincanton for 10 days and had many opportunities to sample fish & chips. But, by far, Wincanton Fish Bar had the finest, freshest fish & chips ever. It is strictly take away but John and Wendy made us feel like locals. We were able to spend some time talking with them while they prepared our generous portions of haddock and cod along with other local fare. It was an absolute delight! If you are in the area, we highly recommend a visit.

I live this place, staff are lovely and friendly. The food is spot on and the portions are massive. Their prices I personally believe are very cheap for the amount of food you get. Only down side is CASH ONLY.

This is a really nice fish and chip shop. We often use it when we are visiting our relatives in Wincanton. You always receive a friendly welcome from the owner and the service is efficient. Excellent portions and good quality fish with lovely batter.

My parents visited me this week and we decided to pick up a Fish and Chips - my parents are very particular about where they get their Fish and Chips from and they were very impressed, said that the shop was very clean and the owners were very friendly - will revisit.

The young couple who run this chippy are lovely ... hard-working & friendly. The fish is always very good quality & they are very quick at serving it up. The place is always full of hungry punters but you never have to wait long for freshly cooked food.Average prices but above average quality.

Quick service, very friendly and accomodating staff! Good knowledge of allergies and with an allergy notice up too.

Well my family travel 10 miles for the fish & chips from this place. Simply the best within 20 miles. I drive past my fish bar in Templecombe and if they are closed we go without, simple as that.

Very busy/popular chip shop. Clean, tidy, quick, efficient and fantastic customer service. Everything is drained so not running in fat. Yum, yum, yum.

The speed of service is excellent. Even when it is packed out you will only be in there max 15 mins.

I often got a spot of lunch here when working in the town.It really needs some competition as it's the only one in Wincanton as far as I can tell.Good friendly service, but very average grub.Not at all unpalatable and better than nowt though.

But no pukka meat and potato pie, called in here last month when my son was over from New Zealand on holiday as he wanted a traditional fish and chips as he cant get similar in NZ. He said as we agreed the fish was very good and the chips excellent.service was good .ill definitely go back again.

Food good, opening times are a joke. closing at 2030 in the evening, it would be nice if they opened for later in the evening

Busy takeaway, never fails to sell out so get in early especially if you want mushy peas. Place your order and go to the pub nearby for a jar then return and collect.

Having moved closer to my family closer to the area I was recommended by locals and family to visit this takeaway. Yes the menu is simplistic and small , but it offers just that. Pure simple Honest, simple food with no short cuts. Everything from the fish to the chips are freshly prepped everyday.Its somewhere im proud to take my family to and hope it will last for many generations

Needed a light meal I was guided off the A303 by my Satnav here. Poor quality chips and watery mushy peas - The can of Sprite was ok though !!! Sorry but based on my experience I can't recommend.
