Not somewhere I would return to as food was not of a good quality.
When you order roast beef you expect the beef to be roasted but we were served with braised beef which is a cheep cut cooked for hours. It was also over cooked as the edges were dry and hard.
We were asked for a preorder as a table of 10. Why they need to do that as they are only serving roast, so not difficult to serve however many turn up.
The roast potatoes were overcook, so much so that they were hollow inside. The vegetables and gravy had far too much salt in so all you could taste was salt.
We were conned into having the most expensive size as were told when pre-ordering the there were three sizes children’s, regular and large. We were served plates which most of us could not finish as they served us a regular but now they say they only do childrens, small and regular. So it turns out we had the largest which had 8 of the hollowed potates on the plate.
Very old fashioned and uninteresting pub with little going for it.
We had a great time, perfect location, right next to Wookey Hole. Clean, tidy and lovely staff. Food is limited menu but good, great for a few days stay. Can't recommend enough.
Always solid food. I was even impressed with the French fries. The atmosphere is always casual and the service is all you could ask for. I have been back many times.
Came here for a family Sunday lunch and quite disappointed.
I ordered first out of the group and informed the server of my gluten allergy. I was not shown the allergen matrix. The gluten free roast pork is a regular roast - but no gravy and no yorkshire pudding, this was not mentioned when ordering. The meat and potatoes were both dry and resorted to having ketchup with my meal. Bit different to the traditional roast I was expecting. One member of the party ordered the vegetarian Roast Butternut Squash. She claims it tastes like “pumpkin guts” and found it inedible.
Dessert was a bit of a nightmare. The menu states the lemon cheesecake is gluten free. Was really looking forward to it. When it arrived I confirmed with the waiter if it was gluten free, he said if that’s what the menu says then yes. Took a couple bites and he ran back to say it was in fact, not gluten free. He did seem super concerned and very apologetic but was not an ideal mistake to happen. Just glad I hadn’t had any more than I did. Shame though because it did taste delicious!!
Received no apology from any management which was distasteful. They did remove it off the bill for us. Wouldn’t recommend this for anyone with allergies.
When we spoke to the manager as we left they apologised for the “oversight”. It did not appear that they were in any rush to make changes to the menu. This was not a fault of the server but the lazy and disinterested management.
I'm still owed money for meals I paid for when I attended the music Festival in early Sept 24. It is disgraceful. No reason given and the same email response from the pub as a lot of others are getting. when trying to get a refund, 'It's been forwarded to accounts'. What an appalling way to treat customers.
Muchos no.
