Farleigh Road Farm Shop in Mendip

Tuesday 17 September 2024, after visiting Westwood Manor, which has no tea room we decided to drive the ten minutes it took to get to Farleigh Road Farm Shop & Cafe. ‘Farleigh Hungerford Farm Shop & Cafe’ is a really nice place to go for a lunch or snacks. As it was quite warm and humid, my husband and I sat inside at a nice table in there lovely air conditioned restaurant. My husband had a nice pot of tea and a large slice of lemon curd cake. I had a lovely thick and very cold strawberry milkshake, which was really refreshing and a large slice of lemon, almond and blueberry cake, which was delicious. We then went into the farm shop where I purchased some biscuits for my mom as a gift.

We had booked a family meal after our family home had been sold and family members were moving away, so it was a special occasion. We arrived to be told they were out of gas and that we should have received a call, which didn't happen! The female server went into a long story about how they were changing over to Flourish and all the problems they were experiencing. Traditionally, we all go for a roast, but there was no chicken or cauliflower cheese available. I love my vegetables al dente, but these were raw and served swimming in water. We were offered a free dessert, which was the best part of the meal. My recommendation is to close completely and reopen once all the work is done!

We discovered thsi place a couple of months ago when looking for somewhere to have lunch on a trip from the Midlands to Dorset. The food was excellent so yesterday I stopped in for breakfast. The staff are great, efficient and friendly and made a great fuss of my dog. (Dogs are allowed in the covered extension area). Had a lovely full English made with local ingredients. I would highly recommend.

I was so impressed by the look of the quality of provisions in the farm shop, I’d enjoyed a lovely coffee and was paying for something from the shop, when one of the assistants came rushing out, as I’d left my bank card on the table, after paying for the coffee! I was so grateful to the lady as it would have caused so much stress and inconvenience if I’d driven off without it. Thank you! and well done too to all connected to such a splendid venue!

As a classic car group we turned up on mass. The table service was prompt and accurate by kind and caring staff. The food was of a really high quality and plenty of it. I'll definitely be going back.

Pleasantly surprised. Very good Scrambled Eggs and Smoked Salmon on Sourdough Toast. Very dog friendly. Seemed like every customer had a dog with them.

Stopped off for a late lunch today and had the hunters chicken from the specials menu. It was absolutely delicious, hot and freshly prepared. Very friendly service there too.

We went for Mother's Day set menu today. So tasty! Didn't have to wait long to be served and staff were very friendly. Sea bass was excellent!

Lovely lunch, food piping hot & very tasty! Had to wait a while to be seated & the staff member advised us there were a few tables ahead of us when we sat down. Staff friendly & although they were very pushed we didn’t feel we had to wait an unreasonable amount of time. Will definitely return.

I arrived with my 1 and 2 year old alone. We’ve been before alone and service is often stretched. But we’ve survived before. I was told there was a 30 minute wait. My toddler understands ordering and when no-one had visited our table to speak to us it began to descend into trouble. They look for some kind of communicating and engagement. He couldn’t understand why no one had visited us. There were loads of tables ahead, some big. I went up and asked if we could have our order taken to help as the kids were beginning to expire. I felt ignored, no one came to speak and they continued to to take orders from massive tables one at a time, even although they had lots of staff, all we wanted was one plate of pancakes. I went up three times, still no-one had the courtesy to come back speak or re-assure me. I felt completely abandoned. If someone had taken a moment I know all the tables around us would have allowed us to skip ahead to order this plate of pancakes. When another very large table began to have their order taken, and no end in site or communication we called it quits and went to leave. At the exit, with a 1 year in arms and a 2 year old at my feet crying I tried to explain why we were leaving. The lady was brisk and said they had a system one at time and ran through her sheet, she said it was in order, she said she told me I would have to wait when I arrived. When I tried to explain that wasn’t very family friendly as clearly my position had changed and now I was in trouble with crying kids, and had asked for help three times. I was told I hadn’t spoken to her and should have come to her. Which isn’t great if you have to try every member of staff until you chance the right one. Especially as I couldn’t really leave my table easily due to the two young kids. She insisted they were family friendly and there was a system and I had to wait. She started arguing. As an upset parent with his crying kids beside the response in itself shows a complete lack of ‘family friendly’- care, compassion and why this place doesn’t get families and most definitely cannot be called family friendly. She could have just said I’m really sorry and I would have left. There is more to family friendly than having a kids menu and providing a high chair. Be warned if you visit.

Totally ignored for 10 minutes. Left at counter waiting for a table. Finally shown to table by surly lad who clearly didn’t want to be there. Staff served two tables around us. 30 minutes in total being ignored. Appalling service. So we left. Then we were asked if everything was alright.

For years this has been a favourite lunch venue, but it is now getting so busy and quite expensive (almost "fine dining" prices), that we will be looking elsewhere to dine. But the food is always excellent and the staff charming, despite being rushed off their feet.

Sunday 20th August 2023, on our way to Devon, my husband and I made a stop at Farleigh Hungerford Farm Shop. ‘Farleigh Hungerford Farm Shop’ is a really nice place to go for a lunch or snacks. As it was warm, humid and muggy day, My husband and I sat inside at a lovely air conditioned table in there lovely restaurant. My husband and I decided to have large slices of elderflower and blueberry cake, which were delicious. We both had a lovely thick and very cold strawberry milkshake, which was really refreshing and this set us up for the rest of the day. We also looked round the farm shop and purchased some biscuits for friends as gifts. This is a nice place to visit if you are in the area.

This is a gem! In the middle of nowhere you find this great little shop that serves high quality food. Best breakfast we had while in England!

Checked out reviews which were a bit mixed. Not sure why as the breakfast was the freshest, hottest and one of the best we've had out of the many farmshops/garden centres we've tried. Not the cheapest but was good value as really big. We picked from the make your own breakfast, which was great. Veggie options are excellent. Cafe is very blue, unpretentious and very clean. Will most certainly return. Staff lovely.

After carefully checking the hours Sunday breakfast is served and discovering that the latest was 11:15 we arrived at 10:40. A party of 4 was waiting ahead of us and were seated. We were then informed that they were no longer serving breakfast despite this being over 1/2 hour before the advertised end time. This seemed entirely arbitrary and it was apparent that there were empty tables. We would have been happy to be told there would be a wait if the kitchen was busy. As you can't make a booking and there is a risk that breakfast service will be stopped early we will not be visiting again.

I had a very pleasant coffee and cheese scone at the cafe at the same time as Trevor P. Whatever the validity of the complaint and the manner in which it is made I heard the server's apology and the matter was dealt with immediately. I have always found the staff at Farleigh Road to be friendly and quick to rectify anything a customer is unhappy about. Mistakes and misunderstandings happen. Mrs S

The notices stated very clearly that customers should refrain from attempting to pay at the till. The tea and scones were very pleasant. However, it was very difficult indeed to catch the eye's of any server, and my wife eventually had to get up and approach one of the servers just after they had brought someone else's food and succeeded on the second attempt. she paid with 2 £10 notes for a bill of £14-50. The server said she would bring back the change and the receipt. After more than 10 minutes my wife was obliged to approach the till and ask the server there for her change. The server who took the £20 and promised the change was engaged in wiping the tops of sauce bottles. We got our change, but cannot recommend this place now.

This is a great place to stop if you are on the road, but the prices in the shop and cafe are a bit expensive. There is a great range of nice food, a lot of it locally produced, to buy in the shop, and the food in the cafe looked good too. There is plenty of parking.

Waited a while (outside in the rain) for a table without any interaction or recognition from staff. Eventually someone swung by to let us know it shouldn’t be too much longer but that they wouldn’t be serving breakfast as the chef is ‘overwhelmed’ in the kitchen. We eventually got a table inside around 25 minutes after arriving and sat down at 11:30 (the time breakfast finishes). Frustratingly, lunch then doesn’t start until midday. We were not allowed to order until after midday and we then had to chase the waiting staff to take our orders. A whole 50 minutes after we sat down, our food arrived. What’s frustrating is that the tables are too spaced out meaning there aren’t enough tables for guests. I understand the need for more space but the tables outside under the canopy are excessively spaced out. There also appears to be a shortage of staff. Thankfully we only paid half price (EO2HO) otherwise I would have been very disappointed. Luckily we weren’t in any rush. Real shame as the food was good quality.

Went to Farleigh Road for our first proper breakfast out on Sunday, they weren't too busy and we chose to sit outside. Having been told someone would come and take our order we waited, people were arriving, waited some more, more people arrived, most sat inside. After a fair wait, a family turned up and sat just inside where we could see them, I said if she goes to them first I'm going to go and attract her attention - she did, I went and told her we we were ready to order 'oh sorry' was the reply and she follows me to out table and when we go to order breakfast tells us there's a 20 minute wait for cooked food. So we left but by now other places would be getting busy. I'm especially disappointed as we are regular customers in the cafe and the shop and have supported them throughout.I know places are struggling but so are customers, this is the one day a week I get to myself and a rare chance to spend time with my partner. Day totally spoilt.

This has been a life saver during lockdown- can not fault the produce, the friendliness of the staff or the cleanliness! We have been able to get everything we needed every time, and nothing has seemed too much trouble. We also ordered one of each of their takeaway pizzas last Friday and they were really delicious!! So happy to be supporting local during this time and will continue to afterwards :)

Met my daughter here for lunch - she came from Bristol, I came from Salisbury way. I've been a number of times before and it seemed a great place to have lunch rather than a pub. Very good menu with choices for any appetite and pocket. Good lunch, rarebit, fish finger sandwich ! and a pudding to share. Food is hot, fresh and appetising. Good coffee.Afterwards we mooched around the shop; bought presents, cards and groceries and vegetables. A lot of the stock is quite expensive though.Will be back.

La selección de pasteles que vimos al salir seguramente nos tentará en algún momento. Este sería un lugar estupendo para visitar en verano y hay muchos asientos al aire libre.

Visité para almorzar en la cafetería, con 4 adultos y 2 niños. El personal realmente tuvo problemas para usar su sistema de pedidos, y una combinación de demoras y desorganización significó que tomó 50 minutos para servir un almuerzo simple. Toda la experiencia empeoró por una mezcla de asientos, toda la experiencia decepcionó la comida decente.

Had Sunday Lunch here with the Family, 8 of us, great food and friendly service, we all enjoyed our meals and will go back again. Roast beef was popular with all the family and would recommend.

After purchasing items from the shop we all chose a fruit scone from the counter to take home with us. Absolutely rock hard. Possibly sell leftover foods from the café but still disappointing. Our spend was almost 30.00 and it would have been nice to think well of this place but not now. How they can sell stale goods and happily take your money is beyond me. We'll never go back. We visited two other farm shops in the area which were happier visits. There are choices out there people!!

Visited here with the whole family for breakfast to celebrate my birthday. Reserved a table beforehand which was a good idea as this place was really busy just after we arrived. Most of us had a traditional breakfast of some sort which we all enjoyed. The portions were plentiful and the one who had salmon said that the portion was really big.Only complaint was that a lot of the eggs were had including poached eggs. Mine had one hard fried egg which was covered by the soft one.
