I enjoyed a superb lunch here with my teen daughter. I chose Soup of the Day, which was Roasted Cauliflower and served with crusty bread and lashings of butter. My daughter had Bruschetta. Clean plates all round. Delicious 😋 I'm struggling to get my head around all the comments about rude staff! They were excellent (and we are far from being local or regular customers). The hat-guy offered me a date as we left. I wish it hadn't been the type of date with a stone in the middle...😉😁

Amazing! We walked in quite late before going to night at the Abbey. The young guy- with the hat- sorry can’t remember his name- so friendly, funny and helpful. We did wait a bit - around 20- 25 mins - for food- but it was fresh and delicious- and we were asked if we wanted another drink. We are back in Glastonbury for frost fair and looking forward going back to the lazy Gecko. We certainly can’t believe the bad reviews.

Unsure as to how an arrogant, passive aggressive man is able to run such a gorgeous looking cafe. Had an awful experience here as it appears many others have. On a long road trip we decided to stop for a couple hours in Glastonbury and decided to have lunch at the lazy gecko. We ordered two paninis and half an hour later became concerned about the wait as our parking was close to running out so politely asked how long it would be until it was ready. The man with long hair and a hat (presumably the manager) overheard us talking to the waiter and shouted that it was busy and this is just how it goes and we could leave if we wanted to. We were taken aback by his confrontational approach and said we were happy to wait a little longer for our food but would just like a rough estimate of the time needed. He said we had one minute to decide whether we wanted to cancel and then walked to the front of the shop, switched the open sign to closed and informed his staff they were closing as he could not be bothered anymore. I am appalled that somebody in a customer facing role can be so aggressive and have such an abhorrent attitude. We were very disappointed as this appeared to be a beautiful laid back looking cafe but it is in fact the opposite. This man appears to have no time for anybody visiting Glastonbury.

Beautiful decor, rapid transition to intimidating atmosphere. We had a 2hr visit to the town and after 30mins of waiting for 2 paninis with a visable pile of orders in the kitchen we enquired about the wait time. The aforementioned man with the hat replied in an arrogant manner that it was a Saturday and thats the way it is, asked us if we wanted to cancel then loudly declared he couldn't be bothered and closed the shop. The waitress looked depressed, the waiter solved the situation while the presumed owner glared on...awful experience reflecting on an otherwise peaceful town. Guess we should have interpreted 'lazy gecko' to 'can't be arsed gecko'. Mediocre food despite atrractive menu. He should get a different job. AVOID

Got charged $22 notes for 2 bacon sarnies and two latte's works out 8 quid for a bacon sarnie, mad when a full breakfast is 11 quid. Shame because really nice place, good service and decor but we ain't tourists and we won't be coming back, it's called a rip off Gecko.

Guy in a hat with long hair was aggressive straight off the bat, when asked if we could sit in the back garden he replied with what back garden? no you’ve been informed wrong the garden hasn’t been open for ages. Ok just asking a question my guy, why the anger? Told to sit out the front of the cafe and order would be taken from there. First and only people in the cafe and it took about 15 minutes to come take the order, wasn’t annoyed by that as we weren’t in a rush but with the aggressive attitude it didn’t help the experience. I felt quite intimidated whenever I was asked a question about the order from the manner in which he was speaking. Food was fine, coffee was good. Wont be returning and will be warning anyone else who will listen to not visit too. Very unimpressed with the service, not a smile cracked the entire time we’re in there. Never write reviews but I was taken aback by how aggressive the service was

We are literally sat here listening to the verbal abuse and incredibly poor customer service referenced in previous reviews. Waited over half an hour for two sandwiches and an omelette. Finally arrived only for us to discover a long hair in the omelette… It was replaced but the interlude included a walk by in which it was loudly proclaimed that “that’s just the way it goes” , more ramblings at high volume and a “sorry” as an afterthought. Food was fine but two ladies sat behind us who had been here for nearly an hour and had the audacity to very politely ask if their food might be ready soon. They were then talked over very loudly, which included some kind of reference to there having been “several f* ups today” and a mini diatribe. To be very clear, this was the male staff member with long hair and a hat today. The other male waiter was very polite and conscientious. I would absolutely not return here again and if this is how he speaks to his customers, I can only imagine how he speaks to his staff. To them I would say that I hope they find better jobs elsewhere as they shouldn’t have to work in that kind of hostile environment.

My wife is Gluten Free and the friendly, helpful staff ensured that what she had (smoked haddock and leek fishcake) did not upset her diet. She said it tasted excellent, as did my omelette. The prices were reasonable and the portion sizes ample.

Abusive owner and staff! Do not go their if you have kids, dogs or anything that may annoy them. Just arrived in town after a long flight. Thought this cafe looked cute. Ordered some drinks from their menu which were ok. However, I soon noticed the strange behaviour of the owner who was directing strange comments towards my 5 year old Who was asking what's that etc. He avoided answering the questions of my child. He then said "ill give you a spoon full of that mate, hahah" without adressing me or looking at me once , regarding the spirulina on display. My son was obviously a little disturbed by the strange way of talking, but I thought it must be this man's way of communication and he didn't mean any harm. My son then had a tantrum moment, unhappy with his banana milk, and went to the window to look at the ornaments, he was not braking anything...but this man said, "Don't touch that mate ill throw you out of here in a minute" to a 5 year old! To which my son tapped him on the leg. This horrific man then turned to me and attacked me verbally shouting at me that we were scum and what kind of people were we. How I did not know what kind of life he had and better get out of his establishment for the insulting behaviour. He kept repeating his son was here today working over and over he said this, im not sure why....I tried to reason with him that this was a 5 year old boy, but he would not stop shouting, I couldn't get a word in edge ways. I realised there was no way to reason with a man in such mental turmoil....At one point I thought he will physically attack me at any moment. He was very intimidating. I saw my son had gone to hide at the back of the cafe under a table. I quickly paid, (his staff member, who made no eye contact but said to her boss, leave it), as i thought he may do something worse, whilst throughout this man continued his verbal assault. I collected my son and friend, who was also very shaken and left. I have since wondered whether I should have contacted the police to report this behaviour. Kids will be kids, but there is never an excuse for someone in customer service to behave that way, let alone to a mother and young child. I fear I am not the first nor the last to have experienced this treatment.

The rudest staff we have ever encountered in a restaurant/cafe. Waited 45 mins for food, asked how much longer it would be and got a torrent of abuse "go to the pasty shop next time, you'll get it straight away" well thank you, yes we will, because you will never get our custom again. All we did was ask, as we had been told 15 mins prior it was "coming now" and the guy went mad, shouting at us, saying its a saturday, yes, cheers, we do know what day it is, and that the waiter was new and the person cooking was new, none of which is any excuse for verbal aggression towards customers. AVOID!

I had a really unpleasant experience in this cafe. I asked for some sausages for my dog and gave my dog the sausages on the plate I was given. I gave my dog the plate to eat from and the owner snapped at me for doing so. He was the rudest, most obnoxious person I have ever met in hospitality. (As someone who works in a shop myself I would never dream of talking to my customers this way.) He went on to tell me as I was leaving that I was banned in future from eating there. What an awful and negative experience. Stay well away!!!!My guests and friends will be warned.

The Gecko embodies the spirit of Glastonbury that the majority of other cafés here do not, with the exception of the Rainbow's End Cafe which is also made of the right stuff. The food is very good quality and very tasty, and their coffee is the best I've had in Glastonbury. Just good quality, strong and tasty coffee. Some of the other cafés in town are extremely bland for coffee, which always puzzles me as it's literally their business to sell coffee. The place is very relaxed and the vibe is chilled and laid back. There's usually some light instrumental reggae music playing and the walls and furniture are all adorned with purchasable art that is made by people who own / work in the cafe. Sometimes the service can be a little too laid back, and the only bad reviews you tend to see for this place relate to service. Personally I find the staff are very nice and interesting to talk to if you go in regularly, and I like the laid back attitude they have. I can understand why some might not get it if they pop in for a one off, so I would generally disregard bad reviews for service and just try to relax and embody the vibes of the place when you visit. I love this place, I've tried all the other cafés in town and they lack any kind of personality and soul which this place has in spades. Rainbow's End is also decent but takes FOREVER to get served and is quite expensive. The rest you would find in any town in the UK and add nothing to the spirit of Glastonbury.

Simply the best cafe in Glastonbury. Good food, accommodating to menu amendments, hot drinks that are actually hot, and a great vibe. Ordered the full English breakfast, and a hot chocolate. Had been before, and found it lacking but willing to give it another go. Regret that decision now. The sausage, only 1, and it wasn’t very nice, no flavour. Sauté potatoes were a bit greasy, not much of them either. The bacon was good, and the toast was ok. The portion size was very small, not worth the £9.80 they are charging. When I paid, the guy recoiled in horror at my Apple Watch making some idiotic comment about not paying with cash. He quickly backtracked saying pay how you like. News Flash dude, it’s the 21st century!!! The cafe looks very appealing from the outside, however the experience my family and I had was terrible. Upon finding a seat we waited over 15 minutes before a waitress came over (they were quite busy so this didn't matter too much); however, others who arrived after us were attended to first which was frustrating. The kitchen is open so you can see what is happening in there. Without going into details, it isn't the most hygienic place and a lot of cross contamination. The burger we were served was not cooked in the middle which resulted in my partner being sick within a few hours. We did not mention this to staff on the visit as we just wanted to pay and get out of there. Hopefully this was just an off day for the staff, especially the kitchen.

We ended up here after a stressful morning and what a find. We all had the full English and despite the square plates (aherm) was more than adequate and absolutely delicious. The bacon was particularly tasty. A word here for cafe owners everywhere. I had a pot of tea which I got more than 2 cups from and was a good strong brew. So often people just put a one cup tea bag in a pot and you end up squeezing the living daylights out of the teabag just to turn the milk off white so top marks there as well. The general atmosphere was great. The staff brilliant despite being very busy. They allowed someone to bring a dog in. There are various artworks around for sale so plenty to muse over. So if you want a decent breakfast or a proper brew next time you are in Glastonbury then I really can't recommend this place enough.

Terrible service, shame as the food was good. We chose to sit in the empty garden as we had some children and dogs with us, and as a large walk up group didn’t want to disrupt the inside customers. When the server bought our first tray of drinks, he asked if we could be quieter as two guests had just left the garden because of the noise… Remainder of service was brash and unwelcoming. Another of our party didn’t even received her food, so was refunded (with attitude), and charged for the cake her daughter had in replacement to takeaway. Not a joyful experience.

A deservedly popular cafe in the centre of Glastonbury, serving good wholesome food, (not burgers and chips) and a wide range of hot drinks. Be prepared to wait a while for your meal as it is freshly made to order, not picked from a hot plate after lying in fat for a hour or two. I had poached eggs with mushroom and salmon cooked perfectly. Looking around fellow customers seemed equally satisfied, after our meal, although the cafe was busy there was no feeling of being encouraged to leave to get more potential customers in making it a perfectly relaxing mealtime experience. A very popular cafe with outside seats overlooking the the busy heart of Glastonbury. The drawback to being popular is that despite assurances the waitress did not come out to take our order. The woman who appeared to be in charge was less than friendly. Food was good and reasonably-priced though and the wait did mean we did see a lot of Glastonbury characters. Would give this zero stars if I could. I haven't been to Glastonbury in years but 2 of my best friends go quite a lot and they always say how good this cafe is. Today I went with 1 of them. It was busy when we arrived and the only available table was near the counter, on which were dog biscuits. I asked the lady behind the counter if there was peanuts in the biscuit because my friend has a severe allergy. The lady said there was peanut butter in them. My friend asked if they could be moved away. They lady gave her a dirty look and said theres only a little peanut butter in them. My friend said I have a severe allergy. The lady gave her another dirty look and said a little won't hurt will it. We said it would. The lady gave a look to the other lady at the counter and then walked off to the kitchen server hatch without another word. My friends throat was scratchy and we left immediatly. I will not be going there again. The attitude was disgraceful.

I have always enjoyed my trip to Glastonbury and it’s always accompanied by a trip to the lazy gecko. The staff have always been friendly and kind, until today. If I could give 0 stars I would. When taking a friend into the cafe to get her to experience how nice it is in there we found ourselves a table right next to the tills. It was the only one available. We had just sat down when I noticed some dog treats on the counter. A staff member was asked if it contained peanuts as I have a life threatening allergy to them. She answered yes but they were for dogs. After explaining to her from affair about my serious allergy she said” so you saying that a bit of peanut butter is going to affect you” when I replied yes she pulled a disgusted face at her other staff member. I politely asked if she could move them and she questioned me again. She was rude, dismissive and not ensuring the safety of its customer’s. When she didn’t think we were looking she pulled a disgusted and rude face in regards to us. She then left and when to chat to the kitchen staff. I was left frozen in shock at my table terrified that I could go into a life threatening reaction and there we no concern for my safety. I was not able to stay as I didn’t trust they would take my allergy seriously when preparing food. We had to immediately leave. I won’t be going back to the once loved cafe. 0 stars

I popped in for a hot drink when I had time to kill before an appointment. It was a pleasant sunny day considering it’s October so I sat outside in the garden. I ordered a hot chocolate and an orange juice. The staff were smiling and pleasant. For a hot chocolate and an orange juice it was £7-40 even though it was only a cup not a mug of chocolate. The garden could have been charming but was rather unkempt and neglected. The drinks were absolutely fine no complaints there, the outside toilets were dirty. I went inside to pay and had a look around, it is really grubby and shabby. I live in Glastonbury and know that it has done very well as a trendy deliberately shabby/chic establishment. However it’s now just shabby with nothing chic about it. I walked past the open door of the “artisan bakery” and the standard of cleanliness was shocking I am surprised the environmental health department allow it to continue trading. It doesn’t take a lot of money to keep eating premises immaculately clean and they really need to use some elbow grease and sort it out. I would certainly not eat anything in there in case the standard of cleanliness of the remainder of the place is reflected in the kitchen.
