I recently traveled to the UK to settle my eldest son into boarding school, which, as you can imagine, was a stressful and emotional experience, especially coming all the way from the beautiful landscapes of Kenya. During this time, I had the pleasure of staying at Marston’s The Bear Inn for four nights, then moved to Bristol for three nights, and returned to The Bear Inn for another two nights before my departure. Given the anxiety surrounding my son's first time away from home, I cannot emphasize enough how comforting and exceptional my stay at Marston’s The Bear Inn was. The service was outstanding, and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to help me settle my son and ease my worries. While every member of the staff was wonderful, I feel particularly compelled to mention Laura Williams. Her warmth, attentiveness, and dedication truly embodied the best of British hospitality. She was constantly checking in on us and other guests, always with a smile, making everyone feel truly valued and special. Thank you, Laura, and thank you, Marston’s The Bear Inn, for making a challenging time much more bearable. Your exceptional service and kindness made all the difference in this important transition for our family.

Best option if you go through street, decent value for money, ideal location for shopping in Clarks village, no elevator, no porter to help with luggage

The Sunday roast was highly disappointing. Chewy and not so fresh. It appeared reheated. Not ideal for a Sunday traditional meal. To be clear though, the staff were excellent, friendly & helpful.

Nice pub, friendly staff, decent food and not overpriced. Clean and tidy.

We had a lovely meal at the Bear inn. As a family of 4 we were welcomed by Hayley as soon as we arrived and shown to a table. The food was amazing so good we could have ate it twice over. It became busy but the staff done well with the situation and apologised for any delays. My children enjoyed the playground in the garden after our meal which was reasonably priced for a family of 4 with drinks and puddings we paid about £75. Thank you everyone at the Bear Inn for a lovely lunch we can’t wait to return.

I came here for dinner with some friends a few weeks ago for a birthday. Our waitress Lauren was so friendly and kind! She helped us with a surprise cake for my friend and brought it out with candles and sang with us :)

This is The Bear for a spot of dinner was immediately welcomed at the door by the friendly staff. We chose to sit in the bar area rather than table service but the difference really isn’t that great we ordered the bar they brought everything else to us. Food came quickly my steak was perfectly cooked and came with tomato chips and mushroom. Next time we will come on a Thursday as they have a weekly offer on steaks.

The Bear has an amazing breakfast with an incredible price. FullEnglish and includes continental. Service was outstanding.

My first meal was sent back, as it was not good. I ordered another dish and that was much better.

This is a review of two halves. The pub itself is lovely, perfectly located for a stay in Street. So handy for the outlet and Street itself. We stayed two nights and had two meals at the pub. The pub part is fine, plenty of seating, decent food and a good range of drinks. The staff were helpful and cheerful. The accommodation however is a little tired and, in places, not well cleaned. Our room was spacious as was the bathroom, we’re were in the cottage which was very quiet and you can park right outside. However, it all needs a lot of tlc, the paintwork in our room was shabby with rust on radiators and dirty skirting boards. The breakfast was lovely, I had freshly made omelettes both mornings but the coffee was poor, I had water instead. All the staffs I encountered were pleasant and helpful. Overall it was decent value and I’d stay there again.

All of our servers were welcoming and attentive (especially Lauren). The food was good value, came out fast, and was tasty.

Had the trio of roasts - it was missing the crackling and the stuffing. Paid extra for the cauliflower cheese but really wish we hadn’t bothered. The food was bland, the meat was chewy, gristly and cold and the roast potatoes were like plastic. Only good thing was the macaroni cheese that my son had and he loves bland food. Was extremely disappointed and 3 out of 4 plates full of food untouched. Won’t be coming here again unfortunately. But 10/10 for how friendly the staff are. Just unfortunately wasted £58 when we’re now gonna have to get food later on. This place used to be lovely to eat. What a shame.

We were in Street on Sunday and decided after looking online at this corner pubs menu to call in for a roast dinner. We booked a table on the website that was easy to use and arrived to be told to sit wherever we wanted to in the spacious bar area. I ordered our food at the bar and the young server was very polite. The food took a bit of a while to arrive but was definitely worth the wait. I had the Vegan Roast tart with all the usual Sunday lunch trimmings while my wife had the child's vegan sausage version. Both plates were very generously portioned and every item was cooked really well and there was a excellent variety of vegetables, along with nice roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a really good red wine gravy. We ordered sides of Cauliflower Cheese and stuffing balls which again were really tasty although the cauliflower was a tad undercooked for our taste. The price was very reasonable compared with other Roast dinners in the area and is available all day which gives more flexibility. Slight negatives were only 2 small stuffing balls and in my opinion quite expensive drink prices but overall we had a great meal in a clean pub and will definitely be back in the future.

Always enjoy going to the bear. Staff are great, especially Hayley who makes sure we have one of our favourite tables! Food is usually good & we try to go at least once a week

Lovely greeting and welcome for hot and presented well. The steak was a little chewy but the dog will love the take home box they gave me. Hayley was very friendly and attentive.

The staff here go above and beyond. The bravery shown by one particular member of staff having dropped a wine glass and managing to get a shard of it in her eye. She still managed to take an order and served us with a smile. Dedicated and brave staff, hats off!

The service at the bar was terrible and so slow. The service in the restaurant was very good and Hayley really looked after us.

Friendly and accommodating staff. Good sized restaurant, great selection of food on the menu. All of our meals were delicious, piping hot and any sides arrived within minutes of the main meal. Staff also brought out my child's meal first, which was hugely appreciated! We were lucky enough to receive a 30% discounts when I booked (for main meals only). So it saved me £27! Great promotion. I would definitely recommend.

Food was okay a little overpriced , but made up for with the friendly service. Lucy and Chloe were so helpful behind the bar and Laura was a lovely.

I came in this evening after a really long day at work and a rough few days and I’ve never been treated so lovely. Such friendly people that really helped me out and made me feel so much better than how I felt when I walked in. I would 100% recommend staying here any day of the week. I stayed here with my boss and his family. He's a wheelchair user and our room was fully accesible (for our needs for one night). The staff were extremely helpful, and went all out whenever we asked for anything. We also ate in the restaurant - the food was good quality and fairly priced. The thing that made it for us, was the staff that were working over our stay. They couldn't do enough and were so lovely. Laura, Caitlin and everyone else, you're a credit to your lovely Inn! Update: return visit in August 2024 - brilliant stay again, big thank you to Hayley for all your kindness and help, you are a star!

Coming for the first time we were instantly welcomed by Laura who really ensured we were being looked after. The food, wine and service were superb and both Lauren & Laura were a credit to the Bear. It’s so refreshing to see younger people really enjoying a passion for hospitality and you’re very lucky to have them there - we will be back.

We celebrated an 80th birthday in one of the suites, the staff were very attentive and friendly, the food was excellent.

Great service provided by Hayley even though restaurant was very busy.

Parked at The Bear Inn & paid parking. Went back after an hour to have food with the family. Brought another parking ticket only to get a parking fine in the post. As I paid cash at the machine & don’t have the parking ticket nothing they can do.A few people have said they’ve had the same problem. Won’t be going back there.

A lovely pub, lovely hotel. We enjoyed a delicious meal and a comfortable stay. A special mention to Laura and Aaron for their excellent level of service to ensure we had a wonderful wedding anniversary. We will return.

My partner and I called in for some lunch at the Bear inn, we were greeted by Laura behind the bar she was very friendly and she made our time memorable. Our food was hot and served to us by Laura again she was very attentive to our needs 😁 . It gave us time to relax over a cool glass wine and a cold beer and to some up our future move to Street Somerset. Really slow, absolutely ridiculous. Took 1 hour for food for 4 people.

Me and my wife have come from Corby in Northamptonshire for a weeks break and we found the Bear inn to be by far the Best pub/restaurant in Street. Got everything going for it. Will be back next year.

Beautiful pub and rooms. Lovely comfortable stay with a great breakfast. Laura the deputy manager was so helpful & welcoming, we would come back in a heartbeat!

Excellent meal, service was brilliant. Laura made sure the food and drinks arrived quickly.

Lunch with family. If staying in the bear carpark make sure you select enough time its easy to overstay and pick up a £60 fine!

A really enjoyable early evening dinner. Plenty of other diners, which created a nice atmosphere, but not too crowded. Food was good and all of the staff were lovely, especially Lucy who served us.

Had a really lovely meal here. The food was great and the atmosphere and environment was really nice. The decor was really clean and tidy, and the park was a great escape for the kids. The only niggle was the painfully slow table service, however we was visiting at the end of a very busy Sunday shift and I think the staff had been extremely busy.

I enjoyed a lovely meal at The Bear this evening. The atmosphere was very lively with every table full but Lucy, our server, was excellent.

Ordered on line took 15 minutes as kept refusing take...order. Eventually ordered. No Lasagne, then waited and waited. Then waiter came over and said no cloudy lemonade ordered an orange juice and lemonade...five minutes later oh no orange juice. Food came out without cutlery. " Oh help yourself from the bar". Is this not a restaurant? Eventually ordered a lime and lemonade and had to go to the bar for a bloody refund after ordering on line. So why advertise beat the queue.. .order on line when your service is so fricking poor. Will not be coming again...grrrhhh...

We've been coming to the Bear for about 8 years when visiting the area from South Wales and we always seem to get the same waitress (Hayley). She always makes us feel very welcome and like nothing is too much trouble for her and she remembers us on each visit too! .The Sunday roasts are always delicious too!

The accusations levelled against us are a complete fabrication of the true facts. If you took the time to read my email sent to you on the 20th you will note that there was indeed no aggressive behaviour, swearing, derogatory or sexists comments made by any one in our party, we take particular offence at these accusations. The only mention of gender and age was in fact made by your duty manager herself the aggression came from her and directed at us. We feel that you should perhaps interview your member of staff to confirm this, should you require us to attend we would be very willing to do so infact we would encourage you to. I visited The Bear on the evening of 18th July with 3 of my friends. One of my friends has mobility issues, but straight away 2 of your staff members opened up the doors by the slope to make it easier for her to access. They were both very friendly. One of them, Aaron, found out which table we were on, to save us having to trek through the restaurant to find this out. He then became our main waiter and we could not fault his service. He was attentive, friendly and made us laugh many times with his cheekiness, without being too 'over the top' or inappropriate. It turned our evening into an experience and we will definitely be returning. The food was delicious and presented so well, the only criticism being that it could have been a little hotter. Thank you to all the other staff members as they were all extremely friendly - unfortunately I don't know their names.
