Fantastic hotel to stay in we really enjoyed our visit in the family room .The breakfast buffet was beautiful. It's set in a lovely place in the countryside only 25 mins drive to multiple beaches. The staff were fantastic would highly recommend a stay.

Great hotel. Clean room and comfy beds. Didn't eat here so can't comment but restaurant was full every night. My only issue was that the carpark was very dark and struggled to see spaces. A little more lighting would help for this coming/ going in the dark. Apart from that fantastic hotel would stay again

Great hotel. Nestled deep in the Mendip Hills, part of Wookey Hole resort. Great rooms, great layout, helpful staff (even on the phone if you have to contact them before your stay, Walter was amazing) and the food is great too! We had chef's curry of the day which was butter chicken, lovely. Good breakfast choices and service fast. The rooms are spacious and clean. Comfy beds and quiet.

This hotel is situated 5 minutes opposite the wookey hole. The rooms are a bit outdated with a tiny TV and could do with a lick of paint however, for thr price I think it does the job especially as you'll be out exploring wookey and using it for a rest stop. The service was friendly and although we had to leave early and missed breakfast, the restaurant looked pleasant. The kids loved it and we'd recommend booking with the breakfast and wookey hole tickets package for a trip the kids will thoroughly enjoy. The area wells is the smallest city in England and only 7 minutes drive away with cheddar gorge being 22 minutes away. Overall, it was a wonderful and peaceful stay, one where we plan to come back to but for longer. This time we may try the luxury hot tub lodges just behind the hotel.

The hotel is dated, beds were not comfortable which caused us both to struggle to sleep, and the food in the restaurant is questionable. Family bedroom was set up for one person, one cup, one set of towels and the interlinking doors were unlocked between our room and another families room. Unable to lock our side, no key etc. For dinner we ordered two medium rare rump steak meals, which both came out overcooked medium well. We normally would just eat them, but as it was both we politely returned them and explained they are both overcooked. The chef offered to recook one only, even though they were both identically cooked. We sent the second one back again that he refused to cook, and it was sent back out cold, with the message that he is not going to recook it as ‘it is perfect and will melt in your mouth’. We had to ask for the other one was cooked to the chef’s interpretation of rare, which came out medium rare. So this one was rectified. We were forced to pay full price for the second steak meal without any discount being offered, even though we refused to pay due to the steak clearly being overcooked. Photos taken for proof. I think this was the second time we have ever had to send a steak back for being overcooked, definitely the first time we have sent two steaks back, and the first time a chef has refused to remake them or being forced to eat it and pay full price for it. Will be looked to claim back our money for the poor customer service on the chefs behalf. The front of house staff was unnecessarily put in the middle, all because the chef was adamant he was right and was refusing to recook the second steak. We feel more sorry for the poor table service girl. She was clearly getting distressed, so we stopped pursuing the issue to avoid any further distress on the poor girl.

Considering this was a spur of the moment trip away and tbh we booked our room here by chance, we had a fabulous trip. We opted for room, breakfast and tickets to the Wookey Hole Experience. On arriving we couldn't have been made more welcome. Booking the evening meal as extra was really easy and the choice on the menu was really good with enough to suit most tastes. The room was basic but comfortable and everything we needed for one night. We chose to use our Wookey Hole tickets the following day which was a great way to finish off our impromptu trip away. We will definitely be returning.

Food was very plain, not much to chose from and who ever puts the menu together does not know what dairy free means. There idea of a dairy free option to Brownie and ice cream is a bowl of Sorbet. Please double check your food as we were told the dairy free option to this desert was to have sorbet instead of ice cream. They failed to mention the brownie also has dairy in it. It was a good job we asked them to check. We were given a room right near the reception. Unfortunately there was a wedding that weekend and a lot of the guests were staying at the hotel. Reception were aware that we were not party of the wedding party before we booked in. Needless to say we had 2 restless nights with children running up and down the corridors and shouting, and adult coming back drunk and shouting at 1am and 2am. Rooms are average. The extra bed in our family room was very small and the mattress seemed to be old and in need of throwing away. You could feel all the springs in it. Unfortunately this is the bed I slept in as I was with my daughter and granddaughter, and my granddaughter wanted to sleep with her mum as it was a strange place for her. The only good thing I could say about it is that it was immediately outside Wookey Hole.

We stayed in the hotel on a Sunday evening, and there was limited option locally for an evening meal at this time. Portions were good, if not generous, both my partner and I ordered the burger with cave aged cheese. Unfortunately the cheese was burnt, and bacon and burger underneath completely dry, very unpleasant. Onion rings, and remaining meal was lovely, and we were offered a complimentary dessert to rectify the meal, which we appreciated. Our breakfast was perfect, good options, both continental breakfast and cooked, included in our stay.

We were pleasantly surprised with the hotel and the size of the rooms, the attractions for the kids were really good and they had a great time. What let's the whole experience down was Captain Jack's Restaurant. The Breakfast ingredients were noticeably cheap quality and the service was not great. For the money we paid I expected better quality, paper cups for tea and coffee and the little pots of UHT milk made it feel like a roadside greasy spoon cafe and not a restaurant. The furniture and decor also were low quality. I know that the restaurant is only being used because the hotel bistro is closed because of Covid, but it is still not an excuse for not making more of an effort. That being said the quality of the evening meal was excellent, just a shame the room and fittings let it down. Overall a very good experience let down by the cheapness of the restaurant which makes it an average experience.

The Bistro is not Covid Compliant so it's Captain Jacks Restaurant:- This is theme park cafeteria being used as a hotel restaurant, the furniture and the fittings appropriate to that role, we went for the evening meal our children like steak and the 5oz offering on the childrens menu was ideal for them. Due to it’s current hopefully temporary role the room lacks any kind of warmth, atmosphere or ambience so much so it’s almost comical in a phoenix nights kind of way. However The food was great, we started with the baked camembert and sharing nachos between us good sized examples of each dish with very nice bread rolls, the steaks were really well cooked, rarely do you get a properly cooked medium or rare offering, the staff were helpful and accommodating even if they were rattling around in the larger than cavernous surroundings.

The staff at captain jacks was also amazing and the food was very good, but a limited food choice on menu that stayed the same every day. all in all, a very nice holiday and we will be visiting again when covid is over.

The food was ok, but it did not live up to the prices charged. It was more expensive than most places in the Cotswolds. Kids meals £8.50. Spag bolognaise £14, steak pie and mash £18, desserts £7/8. Canteen feel which matched the old fashioned furnishings of the hotel. As stated, the food was ok, but probably worth half the price charged. £40 for 1 adult main and 1 kids meal and a drink is just too much for a place like this.

Stayed here as it was convenient to Wookey Hole caves and after a long drive didn’t feel like finding somewhere else to eat.Was a bit dubious after reading some of the other reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Booked a time with the lovely gentlemen on reception and was met by a helpful lady at the Bistro. Found a good choice on the menu and while we decided, our drinks arrived. There was a short wait after ordering but there always is when food is cooked fresh to order. The portions were generous.... almost too big! We also booked breakfast for the following morning, again with no problems. The same helpful ladies as the night before were again on duty. Took our cooked breakfast order which also included any of the continental choices which we had while we waited. Cooked breakfast arrived, again a generous portion. Thought it was reasonably priced for what we had.Would definitely eat here again should we stay in the hotel

After booking with a empty booking sheet for a table a 6.45 we turn up to be told there are long waits due to being “busy”, the restaurant was not even half full. We sit down to be told we can only make drinks orders not food as she chef has too many tickets, again only 8 tables all with food already and only one other waiting. We then ask when can we order as it’s crazy as we have a 3&5 year old, to the response we got was everyone has children and you have to wait. When asking again we got told the 17 year old waitress was upset, clearly not prepared or supported and no other “management” was in the building with only 2 supervisors who continued to sit behind the desk, not even helping the “busy” restaurant. We was appalled by the service, and after asking what time can we order we actually got asked to leave due to not making a good impression. The restaurant needs to re look at how they make an impression on their customers, their service and also looking at the quality of the food.

The burgers were so huge we had to take them home as we just couldn't finish them which the staff were more than happy to do so, really good quality burgers and we enjoyed them just as much later in our lodge. Second night we had the hunters chicken with the rarebit again and hands down - the best hunters chicken i have eaten - ever! Hats off to you chefs, really incredible food you guys are sending out! An open space dinner counting 20 or more tables (at least a few too much for comfort) offers a standard menu of dining choices, more or less the mainstream offering that can be found in any local restaurant. Starting with breakfast, you have the choice of per order breakfasts and a continental breakfast. It’s hard for me to comment on the English breakfast but the continental one does not disserve to be called breakfast, continental, prison or any other kind. At a cost north of 7 pounds it’s maybe worth two pounds. They should really lookup the meaning and the offering of a continental breakfast. The staff is very malicious when it comes to signing to the breakfast thingy but completely fail when it comes to service or tiding up the tables. Some of them tend to be rude on the other side there are some, that are very serving and somehow level out the experience nonetheless leaving you with a bitter aftertaste. Some of the dinner dishes are really tasty but the service is virtually non-existent. If you are here for a few days I guess you’ll visit the venue for at least one taste but it will leave you wanting for more .. hint: it can be found nearby.

A good range of dishes on the regular menu supplemented by several 'specials' mean there's something for everyone, huge portions too. We ate there every night during our four days there and were very happy with what we had - the barbecued pork chops were VAST, and the cheeseboard for one would have fed a family, local ice-creams delish. The staff were multitasking, busy and friendly, and the chefs were happy to tweak dishes to suit us. Many non-guests were dining, too, so do reserve a table.

Booked a table for 7pm. Arrived and were seated straight away by a friendly member of staff. Our drinks order was taken by 10 past 7. It got to 20 to 8, nobody had been back to take our food order and worst of all our drinks had been sat on a tray on the bar for 30 minutes. The bar staff continued to walk past and ignore them, even taking trays to customers that had ordered after us. After half an hour we left and went to eat somewhere else. Like our drinks, nobody even realised we were leaving. Very strange and unacceptable visit. We are unlikely to return. James

We didn't know the area or the pub but liked the look of the pub from across the road. The pub was fairly full as they were showing live football. The pub audience weren't too rowdy and we enjoyed hearing the game from our table further back. Despite it being late in the day the kitchen was still able to provide us with tasty, fresh, hot food. The bar staff was friendly and helpful; they'd run out of some menu items and she advised which items were available and recommended items she thought we may like based on what we'd tried to order. The food was excellent value, as we're the pints of Amstell and Peroni we had to accompany it.
