We were attracted by the good ratings that we read. Unfortunately I could rate our experience no better than average. It was a cold day, there was no fire and it felt cold in the pub. The seats were old and uncomfortable. The Ciabattas were burnt in places and there was no sauce with the meatballs. The salad was very limited. Very disappointing considering we had gone out of our way to visit.

My first visit to PURO, a birthday celebration booked by my daughter. From the moment we walked we were made very welcome, The dining area is contemporary and modern, I liked the bookshelves filled with some amazing cookbooks for inspiration. We opted for the a la carte menu over the tasting menu, This menu, perfectly sized with enough choice but not overbearing. Also included nice extras along with the three main courses. Initially presented with some of the softest honey soaked brioche with a whipped marmite butter to get us started, we knew there were good things to come. A warming miso dashi soup followed before we were presented with our first course, I opted for the poussin others took the pork belly, every plate was perfectly appointed and the dish presented to us at the table, the food was amazing, perfect balance of flavour and texture. To follow, venison, others took the duck or the brill, again perfect plates of food, presented and explained as they arrived. Our final course chocolate cremeax was amazing smooth velvety chocolate with a light almond cream perfectly balanced with a sharp yoghurt sorbet. As we sat back feeling satisfied, a final plate of treats came out for us to enjoy as we finished our wine and sat back thinking about the amazing food over the last few hours.

The menu is really varied (so we'll be back to try more things) and the portions are decent. My rarebit was tasty, but didn't come with the veg crisps mentioned on the menu. Nice to have salad on the side. Rarebit isn't often seen either. They use quality ingredients and make as much as possible themselves. Good cortado as well, you don't get those everywhere.

Nicky and John literally saved my mother, our 2 dog and me. We went to visit my best friend recently to stay. When we got there they had no power. My mother is 85 and needs warmth. Having spent 1 freezing night at my friends we decided to book into The Hunters Inn. We were both feeling pretty low at the time and it was my birthday. Nicky and John welcomed us so warmly. We immediately felt at home. Our room was absolutely immaculate - I have stayed in a lot of places all over the world and our room was the cleanest I’ve ever seen! Nicky made sure we were on the ground floor due to my mother’s age. Everything g was perfect. Lovely comfortable beds with cotton linen, sumptuous towels, shampoo, shower gel and moisturiser left for our use. Beautiful room with a dog theme which we loved. Our dogs were so happy to stay there too. The next day we had the most amazing breakfast… I’m not a breakfast person but I ate my scrambled eggs on toast - locally sourced and delicious. My mother really enjoyed her full English and the dogs absolutely loved their sausages that John cooked for them. What a complete treat it was staying at The Hunters Inn. I can only highly recommend Nicky and John and their wonderful establishment. Extremely good value for money. We had hugs with Nicky before we left. ❤️ Thank you for making what was a bit of a disaster into a warm and lovely experience. Xx
