The boxs' of curries available at the deli counter are only just the beginning. Very authenthic, very nicely spiced, and also some unsual ones, like chicken naga, which is very hot, but very tasty and good for the heat lovers. And at £5-7 its also a lot cheaper than sitting in a restaurant. The lentil dal is even cheaper. You could eat from here every day and not break the bank. Then there is the Deli counter, for daily curries, chaats (mixed indian snack box thing, you won't be dissapionted) You have a vegetarian section and a meat section, and the mix of things ensures you can have something made of vegetables like their fiery parnsips (cooked in a spicy sauce) or indulge with a pakora, of which they're are endless to choose from and all delicious. I asked if the dipping sauces were made fresh, and got the reply, 'everything is made from scratch up in the kitchen'. Have the mango chutney with a chicken pakora and you'll be back to try it all!

We absolutely love everything about this wonderful deli. We live in Tetbury but come to Bristol especially for Sweetmart and indeed this interesting road. We love the freshly made selection of curries freshly made savoury snacks and always buy some for ‘tonight’s supper’ and the freezer. Both the vast selection and the prices are impossible to match and makes the trip worthwhile. Also the incredibly helpful staff are a delight. Thank you !

Was in the Easton area recently and drove past this interesting looking ship so pulled over & popped inside. Had almost everything you want from an ethnic supermarket. It doesn't matter where you are from and what you need, it's likely you'll find it here!. A huge range of fresh fruit & veg from all over the globe. And a massive range of food stuff. And the icing on the cake is the deli serving homemade Indian snacks such as veg/lamb samoas (gorgeous flaky pastry), chicken wraps, pakoras etc etc, and a range of curries. Suitable for halal diet also. Can eat in or takeaway. The owners should be proud of their history & heritage (which you can read about whilst enjoying the deli) and for providing us with such a great store. I look forward to popping in next time I venture into Bristol.

I love 'Sweetmart' , I used to order stuff from their online shop but it can prove quite expensive due to weight of items and postage costs. I note they are no longer doing GITS packet mixes by post etc which is a shame as I live in Glastonbury and can't always get up to Bristol to shop in person. However I recently introduced my partner to the supermarket and deli and we easily overspent in there. The samosas are delicious, as are the Indian sweets. We are actually planning a visit close to Christmas depending upon opening hours as our Christmas day feast is to be a vegetarian Indian one, no boring turkey and trimmings for us. The shop is always clean and well stocked and the staff polite and friendly. I recommend the deli to everyone.

It's become a regular after work treat to pick up some food from the Sweetmart deli. In recent weeks we've been made to feel slightly unwelcome and they have said we can't order bhel puri after 6pm. This evening at 5:25 (I checked) the assistant said they didn't have any & went and got a manager when I asked for a bhel puri. The manager said they only served it until 1 pm. But I could see it in the containers where it usually is! Feeling very uncomfortable, I ordered a mixed Veg curry instead. It turned out to be four huge chunks of badly cooked potato, three chunks of aubergine and some peas. Not very appetising. Sometimes the best things come to an end. I think the Bristol Sweetmart is now so full of its own success they can't be bothered to serve honest customers. Or maybe as there is just the two of us we're simply not buying enough. We're polite people and don't seem to stand out in any way from the other customers. I really don't know why this happened to us. Several other Indian delis in Bristol.have been recommended to us, so we won't bother the Sweetmart with our custom again.

You can get just about anything you need to make a wonderful meal particularly if you are following a good Indian receipe (not one of those western celeb chef things tailored to a western palate). Their selection of spices, dhals, flour and rice are vast and they have a good selection of fresh Asian vegetables. I was even able to get fresh curry leaves and the ingredients to make idli from scratch although they also do an idli mix which I am looking forward to making. Depending on where you live, it can be quite fiddly to get to and there always seems to be roadworks and diversions and parking can be difficult but it is so well worth the effort.

We moved from London to Bristol and our friends said "Your first meal has to be Sweet Mart" How right they were!!! Amazing curry, dal, chipati etc etc! They are vegetarian so everything was veggie but Indian food lends itself so well to veggie/vegan food. I think they have a stall at St Nicholas' indoor market in central Bristol...mmmmmm...samoosas!!!!! I then had my baby and they came around a week later with Sweet Mart!

Large selection of fresh food and vegetables, plus a large (but very expensive!) deli. The food is pretty expensive for what it is, as is the deli. I bought two paneer pakoras the other day and it came to around £3.50! They were only about golf ball sized too. The staff are quite offish and appear to just want to get you out of there as quick as possible. Also full of middle class people, aka yuppies!

Having only moved to the area a few months ago, I had been getting my spices from another shop in the area called Maliks. I used to go here every now and then to get spices for my curries. Their prices were great as were the curries when I had finished making them. It wasn't until friends of mine were heading for lunch when they had mentioned St Marks Road, it was just round the corner and thought it had been better than nothing given the time we had for lunch. After arriving there, I could only describe the Deli from the outside as a Tardis. For when you had entered, the place just seemed to go on, and on, and on. The place was huge, well stocked and very clean. Here I was to find a gaggle of multicultural people with their heads within every aisle. Each one had been packed from floor to ceiling of many products, and all facing the right way without having to turn the item around just to read what it is they were selling. There was an abundance of everything you'd ever needed. However, I was only there to get a curry and rice for lunch. However, this did not stop me from getting some Yogi Tea which was something to help with my ongoing pains and aptly titled stomach Ease. Well, after just two of these at work, I feel GREAT, a great deal better than I had done over three weeks or more. Anyway, I digress. I had chosen Fried Pilau Rice and Chicken Curry. Getting back to the office, we each took it in turns for the microwave. By the time it was my turn, the other two had finished eating, or had been making a good go on it as they had both been there before, unlike I. When it pinged, I couldn't get it on the table quick enough. Well, having a great liking for curries, the one I had chosen had been tip top. one of the best curries, if not the best curry I had ever tasted. And boy, did you get a lot for your money too. I now have the other half in my fridge at home which I am so very looking forward to. So my weekend will certainly start off great.Have no worries, I will certainly be back there again to get spices for my curries, whilst leaving myself a good couple of hours to look into every nook and cranny. I've now found the most perfect establishment to purchase all my Indian delicacies, whilst finding the time to buy some of the many products they have to offer. It really does have a Taste of Promise!

We are huge fans of Sweet Mart as THE shop to get quality foods at good prices. This time we stayed for lunch and met up with a friend and I have to say it was the most delicious meal I've had out in ages. Lamb Spinach, Tarka Dal, Cauliflower Curry and Basmati rice came to the grand total of £13 (including a couple of chai's) and easily fed all three of us. We followed that up with a selection barfi as a real treat! It was a calm and quiet setting and although there's only a counter and bar stools it was a really excellent experience. Cannot recommend highly enough

This is the shop to go to for all things associated with Indian foods, spices, sweets etc. Professionally run by smart looking family. Clean, bright and airy. Their sweet counter is fab too. I go here every month to stock up and it is much better than similar shops in Lon or Leicester. Minor annoyances are that the aisles are cramped. Space for just 1 person. There is so much produce and products that it is hard to find things when it is all crammed in. Also the pricing is not clearly displayed so it is hit and miss how much it costs at the till. But by jove this is a much needed shop. You will be surprised at how many white English shop in this place. From the stuff they buy you know they have lived in India. Their shopping cart is same as mine. Astonishing.

I live in Somerset and am a keen cook, Asian and particularly regional Indian being my favourite.Unfortunately specialist ingredients are somewhat thin on the ground here. The only option was a trip to Bristol (never a hardship as I love the place)I had up till now been using Masala Bazaar on the Stapleton Road, good shop but their fresh produce can be a little wilted sometimes, also the staff tend to be a bit surly.Deep joy, Bristol Sweet comes onto my radar, great fresh stuff, a mind boggling choice of ingredients plus a really cool deli section! This little supermarket set it what appears to be a bustling mixed community, seemed really busy and full of people with exited grins, me in particular! Really helpful, friendly staff always on hand, food shopping just became fun again....I feel this will become a fortnightly trip as the pistachio burfi has already been eaten.

We have been here half a dozen times now and it is consistently spot on for home cooked Indian food. They have a wide range of vegetarian and meat dishes which you can eat in or take away. If you eat in they will serve the food hot or cold at a little table in the supermarket. Whilst it is certainly not a place to go for your anniversary it is a fantastic place to go for a cheap and authentic lunch or early tea. They have got a wide range of Indian desserts and it is hard to understand why with this quality of pudding, Indian restaurants never get you past a two course meal. If you are cooking an Indian at home then the perfect ending would be a selection of their "barfi" which are superb. After you have had your lunch the supermarket has every kind of Indian food you can imagine.

St Marks Road is well known for being a hub of lovely food-centric places.Bristol Sweet Mart is no exception..The store is split into two halves- the first larger half is a grocery store with a huge selection of any kind of Indian food and vegetables, and damn good value too.The other half to the left of the frontage, is a very smart shop, more like a continental deli or patisserie selling a wide variation of Indian sweets and also ready made Indian dishes to take out.I haven't tried the savoury side yet, but the sweets are all fabulous. They are kept in a refrigerated display, and not for the weight conscious as are laden with fresh cream , sugar etc and very calorific. There is a a selection of about 15-20 different types, all delicious and very good value. They are sold by weight, and they just fill up a smart little box with whatever takes your fancy,.It is traditional in Indian & Pakistani culture to take a box of these to your family and friends as a treat and it's not difficult to see why.Have had several of these boxes laden with these sweets- more like small solid cakes-, and they are consistently gorgeous. They are not spicy, but just rich and very moreish-it's virtually impossible just to eat one and not dive in for more...!Anyway a lovely place. The staff are courteous & polite, and the things they sell wonderfulThe real deal!! Seriously recommended :)!!
