Kaldosa in Bristol, City of

Came here on Valentine’s Day, and have since been back with my family, because it was so tasty. The food is delicious, and the menu is really good for gluten free!! Great atmosphere, too. Probably my favourite spot down Gloucester Road, I will be back!!

We have been with 2 couple of friends. The food was very abundant. I highly advice to take the meal with 20 pound and try a variety of small plates. The dosa is quite abundant so I suggest to share between two. Good deal and quality/price. Food spice at the good point. Staff really kind and helpful.

Had a masala dosa once. That was good. Then, took a friend of mine amd had biryani and porotta with lamb curry, it was great. Smiling staff is always an add on in any restaurant and Kal Dosa has it all. Good job, ladies and guys.

Hands down, the best Southern Indian food I have eaten since I was in Chennai, and in this day and age it is great value for money. Dosa is large so either really really mean it, or be prepared to share. We had a chicken dosa, southern fried chicken, aubergine fritters, and a prawn dish, with a paratha each to share. This was plenty of food for two of us, along with 2 pints of infinity lager. Where there is heat, it's ferocious but in a good way. We will be going back, and soon. Absolutely banging. They lose a star on service because they fell into the trap that many restaurants do, and just left us sitting unattended after "is that everything for you?" Guys, if the customer has finished eating, doesn't want more drinks or dessert, at least reconfirm that after 10 minutes or offer the bill. Overall, a great tasting and very reasonably priced experience. All that above cost £57 for two people, which included the 10% service charge. Will definitely return.

From the minute we walked into the restaurant until we left, the exceptional team took excellent care of us. I appreciated the simplicity of the menu—not an overwhelming number of options, just the classics, and I absolutely loved it. As someone always on the lookout for authentic Indian food in a Western setting, Kal Dosa delivered a fantastic dose of authenticity. Without a doubt, the best dosas I've had in a long time. Kudos to the team; everyone should be proud!

Have wanted to try Kal Dosa for ages and it did not disappoint! Between two we ordered a chilly cheese dosa, the cauliflower, aubergine fritters, fried paneer and paratha. Everything was so tasty especially the cauliflower. The dosa was a bit disappointing as there wasn't much filling. Would rather have gone for one of the masala ones but we know for next time as we will be back!

Lovely place, and for a dinner for two with cocktails it was really great value for money! The staff work hard, the music is great and the food is delicious. Definitely a great spot!

Amazing food, great vegan options, the house red was delicious and our service was excellent, Freya our waitress was so nice and knowledgeable.

Friday evening date night - place was bustling but service was quick and friendly. Dosa arrived first and was perfect size to share. Curries and small plates were not far behind and we're delicious. The fried paneer was a particular highlight - sweet and spicy with crunchy veg. Prawn Curry and coconut rice were also delicious and we were both left very happy!

I had a takeaway delivered with that slight fear of not knowing what it will be like. Should not have worri ed as the food was spot on. The chilli beef small plate had a great fresh chilli hit and the large portion of slow cooked lamb was authentic and flavoursome. The taste got better for me as it cooled down . Looking forward to a sit down next time

Went for lunch with 3 friends. We didn't know anything about the food but the staff were super helpful in explaining the dishes and advising on quantities to order. Everything was delicious, we shared one meat and one vegetable thali (selections of dishes) and one chicken dosa. Plenty of variety and quantity for the four of us. All staff very happy and enthusiastic, nothing too much trouble. Terrific find, highly recommend you try it!

Really lovely staff, and a great selection of dishes. Loads of options for those avoiding wheat/gluten. Amazing flavours in the Pachai Kai Kari, and the Bean Thoran. Perfectly crispy paratha. A dragonfruit and mango daiquiri was the perfect citrus compliment to the deeply flavourful food.

First time visiting off the back of a glowing review by bristols own bosfinesse and my gif he wasn’t lying! This place is amazing! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was absolutely amazing! Packed with flavour to the last bite. I have to personally recommend the masala dosa and the biriyani which comes with the most delicious chicken gravy which smacks with flavour and spice. Plenty of options for vegans and veggies alongside gluten free diners too. I’d give this place a 10/5 if I could.

The food was great, but not sure of the practice of adding £5 + service charge to the bill automatically without informing the customer. Personally, I find this practice dishonest and unfair on the consumer.

Wonderful experience, friendly and efficient staf and most of all sumptuous food, the most authentic Indian tastes I have experienced in the UK. This is an experience I will look forward to having time and again in the future

As soon as we walked in we were well looked after. The staffs were attentive and helpful. Food was really good and my daughters loved it which is a bonus as they are fussy. Good options available for all. Overall we loved it and will go back again

First visit to this restaurant, fab food and discount before a certain time

We all agreed that the food was very good and there was plenty of it, but the place was very noisy and we particularly resented the sneaky 10% service charge, which isn't mentioned in the menu or even explicitly shown on the bill (I looked but couldn't see it, added a tip and only realised later that the bill had been loaded. That's sharp practice and I shall think twice about going again).

Very fine Southern Indian food. A fabulous, reasonably priced dining experience.

We waited for ages for our food which came out at different times. I ordered the daal and rice and the portions were tiny for the price. Service charge automatically added which was strange. Also no WiFi throughout the whole restaurant, again strange. Service was polite and friendly.

Hi so today I went there and it was my first time and was really excited.I took my European friend too so he can try Indian food.we ordered lamb curry with rice and masala dosa . The Dosa I got was absolutely COLD and seems like it was made long back as it was all saugy rather crispy.I asked for extra sambar but unfortunately the coordinator or manager mentioned it too kitchen staff but they didn’t receive any sambar. When paying bill I did mentioned to him that I didn’t got samber then he did apologise but was too late. I would advise and trust me I am not promoting any one but pappu dosa in Bristol in far far better .that’s my honest review. No apology could be enough to try that saugy dosa again in my life I mean I make more crispy dosa at home Vikas sharma

Fantastic food and service, really recommend the cauliflower small plate!

Had a mixed experience here, from the moment I got in our waitress was giving me and my partner very weird, wide eyed stares, at first I thought it was over politeness but after it continued the whole evening I could easily realise she had some sort of issue with us. Food tasted pretty good and the decor was lovely, staff simply seem inexperienced and childish.

We visited this afternoon, we had a dosa to start ( shared between two) a lamb and pork curry with one rice to share and the paratha to share .everything was absolutely incredible, honestly the flavours and quality of ingredients were outstanding. The currys both had a lot of meat and no fatty chewy parts all delicious! We both couldn’t fault it . The staff were so friendly and welcoming, asking about your plans and weekend which was lovely not like a lot of places were they just chuck the food down at you . I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for authentic , tasty food with fantastic service. I cannot wait to come back !

I had a chicken dosa and it was excellent. My friends had various other dishes and we thought it all delicious and will return. Staff were cheerful and welcoming. We will go again.

A very modern take on South Indian food. I expected a very traditional South Indian restaurant. One where tables are set up so close to one another that, people come in only to eat and get out as quickly as possible, like some Hotel Saravana Bhavan, branches I had been to. This place on the other hand is fine dining! Love the atmosphere, the wall shelves with plants, and the framed matchbox covers as art. I did wonder if there was a back story to this. Kudos to the chefs for keeping it authentic. As a vegan, I tried the Mysore masala dosa and Kuzhi Paniyaram (which the staff affectionately called dumplings). Both were fantastic. We even felt the dosa wasn't too oily! Almost like one would make at home. And delicious and crispy as you'd expect. For the first time ever, I spotted "vegan mango lassi" on a menu. So I had to try it. This was a bit of a surprise. I say surprise because although it wasn't quite what I had expected, it tasted so good. Lassi is supposed to be yogurt based. But this was more like mango flavoured oat drink made using oat milk and not one made with non-dairy yogurt! So it wasn't the thick creamy sweet thing I expected, however it still tasted so much like real mango, and had enough ice cubes to make it chilled and refreshing! I enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Vegetarians and Non vegetarians have plenty of options to try. And if you drink alcohol, you are in for a treat, a whole range of drinks are on offer, including fancy cocktails. I did reserve a table just in case it was going to be crowded. You can use their website to get a reservation sorted. Staff was very helpful and service was timely! Toilets and overall, the whole place was very clean! Kudos to the staff for keeping it all squeaky clean! The irony though was that despite the name of the restaurant being Kal dosa, that dish wasn't on the menu! It is a special type of dosa in Tamil Nadu. We did wonder why not, maybe the owners can respond to this review and let us know.

We went to Kal Dosa for date night and we’re not disappointed! We had a potato masala dosa, the Byadgi Chilli Beef, the lamb and the pork curries to share with coconut rice. Spicy food is our favourite and Kal Dosa doesn’t hold back on the spice! We also had a third curry (chicken) on the house as they thought it by accident which was a nice surprise. The dragonfruit and mango mojitos were VERY easy to drink… Definitely recommend, lovely interior, the food came quickly and very friendly staff.

Unplanned lunch, pleasant layout, water for table in lovely Indian jug, we had the meat and veggie thali. Really different flavours which we loved. Not a fan of deep fried chicken but theirs was tender and tasty. Veggie dishes fab.

The service provided by one of the supervisors was terrible. One of them kept leaning on the booth as he was talking to my mate and close which was not what you would expect. Bear in mind he had his back to the next table and his backside was pretty much where people were actually trying to have a meal as the tables were so close together. The same guy was also doing the same with a different table, while he had his hand under his tee shirt and was scratching himself while taking an order. The food was okay, didn't blow me away but overall nice. The pasión fruit mojitos were a let down, loads of ice and no taste. Overall got really Frankie & bennies chain kinda vibes in there. It wasruined by the service, will not return

We had 1 lamb gravy, 1 dindigul biryani and a plate of dumplings. The bill was £37. The quality of the taste didn't match the price of the lamb or the biryani. The dumplings or pudd (as it's called in Bangalore), were good. For this price point, Nutmeg and the Mint Room offer much better taste.

Delicious food with a difference, great service and value for money. We had the chicken dosa to start and then the belly pork curry (very spicy). All the food came quickly and was well cooked. The dosa was the highlight and we will definitely be back for another one very soon.

We were 30 minutes early for out booking however the amazing staff managed to sit us. After seated I founded it a bit to loud (due to my hard of hearing) so we asked to be moved which the waitress Annie was more then accommodating to do. Me and my husband had an excellent meal. We shared a chilli cheese dosa with a coorgi pork and kori garssi and some paratha. We were very well looked after, service was friendly but not intrusive. Thanks again to Annie and Will and the rest of the team for a great date night! Will be back soon!

I forgot to take pictures of our food; food was calling!!! Amiable staff, the food presentation was beautiful, and the food was highly flavourful. Every item we had, had its unique taste. If you haven't already been would highly recommend Kal Dosa!!! Will be coming again 👍 Guys go try it you won't regret it😋

Staff is absolutely fantastic, and food is good but wayyyyyyyyyy too spicy. Every dish made me sweat.

We had a very pleasant lunch here. The Dosas were excellent. I had the lamb dosa and the spice and heat level were perfect for me. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I'll return for an evening visit soon.

Myself and two friends tried this place - we didn’t have reservations but we’re still accommodated. Good service and the Indian food was unique and delicious.

Great welcome by Team, Service and food was amazing. Bit disappointed as just one lager on draught and 2 Gin choices available. Ordered Kodi vepudu, alleppy fish fry, prawn moillee, Mysore masala Dosa, everything was great. Will visit to try other dishes next time.

Very, very noisy and difficult to hear. Tables rather cramped, had to move chairs to make way for servers to pass. The dishes were seriously spicy, which meant that they were one dimensional, with little left for subtle flavouring.

Everything from the atmosphere to the food was fantastic. The staff were very lovely and friendly, we will definitely be coming back.

It was our visit to this restaurant on the weekend. Usually they r busy so it's a good idea to book in advance. To start with, I didn't understand why their main desk and computer are opposite to the entrance. A person should be facing the door to greet the customer rather than showing your back and not knowing people are standing behind. They don't have a wide range of food variety but whatever they have is a good selection of mix food. It's definitely a popular place for Dosa and their dosa is crispy and delicious. We tried Mysore dosa and their chicken dish Both were delicious. Service is good. However, they don't have any menu for dessert which is unusual. When we asked they said they have chocolate brownie with ice cream which is not what I expected. It would have been nice to have an Indian dessert which brings authenticity rather than something which is not really Indian. Overall experience was good 😊.

Amazing place on Gloucester Road in Bristol. 3rd venture by the very friendly owners. They know the food scene game. Decor beautiful, staff excellent and the atmosphere just right. The food comes quick. The staff check on you if all o.k. Philip served us and was super. The owners even keep an eye to make sure your experience is worth the visit. Not many places do that nowadays. The price reasonable too. Good luck to them on this new venture. We enjoyed our last night Dosas.

Value for money. We tried mysore masala and cheese dosa. Both are really good in taste. Very less options in the menu so I hope they will come up with more in near future

Excellentttt. The rose lassi is fabulous. I had 2x dosas, curries, a salad and cripsy aubergine thing. All delicious, the flavours are so deep and complex. Not too pricey either. Gorgeous place with a nice vibe. Great for gluten-free and vegan.

The food was brimming with authentic south indian spices and herbs, amazing flavours. We shared a variety of small plates (paneer, cauliflower, crab cakes, aubergine fritters) and cod curry in banana leaves, dosa, and sides of rice and paratha. To be expected when @nadubristol & @nutmegbristol come together 👀 So new the service is still a bit all over the place, but the food makes up for it 😍 Only marked down because the Aubergine Fritters lacked flavour. Great food, authentic dosa (although they also do non-veg options), good value: 2 dosas, 2 sides and 2 drinks for £40. Would have been enough food with 1 side- recommend the cauliflower dish.

Really attentive with allergies, staff were really helpful with explaining what was on the menu. Food tasty and good portion size, although the dosa could have done with more filling but personal preference as that’s one of my favourite foods ever. Will be back 😊

Went for dinner with a friend. Love Dosa but only ever had it in India as it's hard to find in Bristol. Very busy on a Friday night, but nice colourful interior and lively atmosphere. Had the lamb dosa, my partner pork belly curry and our friend lamb curry. Along with some small plates. Have to say, it all was incredibly tasty! Such rich and layered flavours! Every dish very different yet similar style. A lot to discover with your taste buds at every bite. We love trying and experiencing new things and there was a lot here. Thought the desserts didn't quite fit with the rest in terms of type of food (cheesecake, brownie). I was expecting something more exoctic so we have those a miss. Also thought service was a bit hectic and impersonal. Don't get me wrong, they were flying and doing their best as every table was taken. We had four or five different people on our table from taking orders, bringing food/drinks, bill etc. Would go back in a heartbeat to try more from the menu. Reasonably priced as well 👍

Nicest Indian food I have had in a while and very friendly staff

We just had an amazing meal here for my husbands birthday. Food quality to rival Nutmeg (which is a compliment to both establishments) The mezcal cocktail (or two) comes highly recommended. So happy to have this round the corner. Reckon it might become a new favourite!
